^And I was around the same time!

Very interested to see how these turn out, I think my 12 has a decent chance of doing well so I hope it can (and me not flopping for once would be nice too x)

Alter Bridge - Blackbird

Hi Jade,

Thank you for hosting again, your plug session was a real success I felt, and great turnout too!

Here’s my votes.

+12 Colony House – You Know It
+10 Karnataka – Secrets Of Angels
+8 Shrangralas – White Gold
+7 Soccer Mommy – Circle The Drain
+6 Westerman – Confirmation
+5 Windmaker – My Empire
+4 Club Smith – Young Defeatists
+3 Working Men’s Club – A.A.A.A.
+2 Moaning – Fall In Love
+1 FalKKone – Licht Und Schatten

We begin with Wardy who is behind 'Blackbird' by Alter Bridge! They're an American rock group consisting of former members of the band Creed. They were said to be inspired by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd when creating this song. 'Blackbird' boasts a killer guitar solo, a raw vocal performance and some really emotional lyrics. The blackbird appears to represent someone they've lost in this cruel world before they were able to see the light. Powerful stuff! This is one of the longest songs in the contest as it clocks in at almost 8 minutes long. Wardy shows support to a fellow #longsongbloc member - as 'Secrets Of Angels' is his silver medal and that is easily the longest song in the contest, at 20 minutes. Colony House become our first leader tonight with Arctic Monkeys Shangralas completing the top 3.

Great edition, thanks very much all! <3

Next up is Chez Wombat who is revealed to be behind ‘Licht Und Schatten’ by FalKKonE! This is a symphonic metal cover of a song from the anime Tokyo Ghoul, so an eclectic choice for sure. FalKKonE himself appears to be from Poland and specialises in these symphonic metal covers. A lady named Rena is also involved with this project as a singer and artist, but she doesn’t sing on this occasion. This entry is purely instrumental - with some epic guitar and string action! Chez is currently sitting in 16th with one point, not bad at all when there has only been one set of votes prior to his. He does not award any points back to Wardy, fellow exposed buddy, but does help some other songs off 0. Still 12 zero pointers at the moment. Chez awards Karnataka his gold, so that is easily in the lead now with two medal positions to its name. A 20 minute winner… could it happen? That would be iconic. Chez tops up Working Men’s Club and Moaning’s respective totals, sending them both into the top 5.

Suddenly Wardy's knowledge of Alter Bridge on plug.dj makes sense magic.gif

Chez being behind the only instrumental of the contest, who'd have predicted ohmy.gif (naturally also one of the best songs *.* that to do v well pls x)

Posted by: Chez Wombat May 31 2020, 06:12 PM

Did I fool people into thinking I was Iz for just a minute? x (I confess I've never heard of Tokyo Ghoul)

FalKKonE has loads of really cool symphonic metal covers of various anime and video game covers and various weird stuff (he's done Mozart and the Thomas the Tank Engine theme as well) on his channel, I'd really recommend it to all those who like this: https://www.youtube.com/falkkone/join

Rena is indeed also often involved and is pretty cool, but you can barely hear her over the music sometimes laugh.gif

iz is not behind the anime song!!!

I always love symphonic reinterpretations of good soundtracks, so that was a highlight.

1 BLOXX - Lie Out Loud

Great round, some surprises there as I haven't really been a fan of other music I have heard from Soccer Mommy and especially Westerman but these were great choices! Here's hoping Moaning won't be paid the dust I was paid in the last Jade Nuggets xx (I may have slightly bent the rules in sending a song that's mostly synthpop but hey, it has a good amount of guitar in the second half kink.gif)

Commiserations to these which were also worthy of points:
Amyl And The Sniffers - Starfire 500
Folkstone - In Taberna
Summoning - Land Of The Dead
Sonata Arctica - Whirlwind
BAILEN - Your Love Is All I Know
Club Smith - Young Defeatists

Now it’s time for Bré’s votes! He is behind ‘Fall In Love’ by Californian-based band Moaning. This is gloriously 80s with its synthpop influences and thrashing guitar - thankfully it did contain enough of the latter to dodge a veto. Lyrically this is about being afraid of falling in love due to witnessing a lot of relationships ending badly. I feel like a good synth always brightens up any topic however. This package also contains a cool and slightly trippy Adult Swim video. Bré is currently sitting in 7th place so could certainly be on track to outdo his position in my last Nuggets contest. He awards 12 points to Chez’s symphonic metal instrumental so that now flies into the top 5! Bray also awards 10 to Working Men’s Club, tightening their grip on 2nd place. He then gives 8 to the Spanish standout from Bebe - that is now in the top 10. He also ensures that BLOXX and Dogleg are off 0, so now it’s 10 people that remain on nil points.

It's actually one of the most popular anime around! Decent first season (young man gets turned into supernatural creature that can only eat human meat) but that concept only holds for so long and it apparently goes to pieces in the followup seasons which I have not watched.

but the music from it is definitely a highlight, the opening theme 'Unravel' is an awesome post-hardcore song, and 'Glassy Sky' is another soundtrack song that gets a lot of accolades.

Posted by: Bré May 31 2020, 06:19 PM

Definitely felt like I was skirting the veto here, though if it had been vetoed I'd still have sent a different slightly more guitar heavy song from Moaning which is nearly as good:

Yay for me being off to a good start anyway with points from both of the first 2 voters including a medal position already *. cheers Wardy & Chez ~

+01: DI-RECT - "Times Are Changing"

Next up is Juan Carlos who is behind ‘You’ by We The Lion! They are a band based in Peru which explains the overwhelming amount of Spanish comments on YouTube. The song is in English though! The singer reminds me a little of Ben Howard which I think is due to the folky tone of his voice. The song is pretty sweet and devotional, with the singer promising to “never let you down”. The video is equally sunny too with a girl dancing around merrily with her rainbow hair and headphones. Juan Carlos is currently sitting on 0 points but he has revealed company in awardinary at least. His votes are pretty impactful as they change the winner! Working Men’s Club now take the lead, following a full 12, while closest rivals Karnataka fall to 2nd after a snub. Juan Carlos then awards 10 points to Bebe which advances ‘Malo’ into 3rd! He also gives Ellis quite the boost - 8 points sees ‘Shame’ up in 4th now. He helps DI-RECT and Larkin Poe off 0 also, reducing the nil pointers to 8.

'Licht Und Schatten' is such an Iz entry (but a Chez entry too...hmm). Still, deserves to win.

Already flopping hard, fantastic.

Next up is Maurice with ‘Times Are Changing’ by DI-RECT! It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that it’s Maz behind this entry as DI-RECT are a band from The Netherlands. ‘Times Are Changing’ was an appropriate single title as it was their first one released with new frontman Marcel Veenendaal. The piano melodies in this song give me slight Coldplay - ‘Clocks’ vibes and it’s of course guitar heavy too. The video is pretty simple with the band just playing their instruments. This entry is currently on 1 point… better than nothing I guess? Maz does some strong charity work as his entire top 3 comprises of songs that were previously on 0 points! Kasalla, Math The Band and We The Lion now all sit in the top 20. Sonata Arctica are lifted off 0 too, so now just 4 songs remain on nil points. Maurice extends Working Men’s Club’s lead in first to 10 points and also helps FalKKonE to rise into the top 5!

Great job guys!

Now it’s time for the host entry! You guys had fun trying to guess my entry on plug.dj but I don’t think anyone suspected that this was me. Surprise! I discovered ‘Lie Out Loud’, from English band BLOXX, on New Music Friday and enjoyed it so much that it kicked off my motivation to finally host this contest! It was such an instant love so I thought it’d be perfect for the contest with that aspect and the guitar sound. The guitar playing and drums are seriously impressive in this song. ‘Lie Out Loud’ really packs a punch with its angst and über catchy chorus. It doesn’t feel a million miles away from a Paramore song. We’re also treated to a really colourful animated video. Right now it does not look like a 3rd Nuggets win is on the cards for me, with only 1 point at this stage, but anything could happen! The Ellis song was the biggest highlight of this edition for me - my 12 pushes ‘Shame’ up to 2nd! My silver results in Westerman rising to the top 5 too. Finally, my 8 goes to Working Men’s Club so that stays safe in first, with an 11 point lead now. I wonder who is behind that? I lift H.E.R.O. off 0 so now just 3 songs are stuck in that unfortunate position.

Next it’s Suedehead with ‘White Gold’ by Shangralas! It’s no surprise that this band is from Sheffield as the vocalist could be Alex Turner’s doppelgänger. ‘White Gold’ is a toe tapper for sure with very energetic guitar work going on. Suedey is doing pretty well right now in 12th place. His 12 is given to Moaning, so Bré is now sitting pretty in the top 5! Suede’s 10 goes to Colony House, resulting in a slightly more secure top 10 placement for them. The bronze goes to 20 minute epic ‘Secrets Of Angels’, putting that entry back in second. Suedey ensures that cheerbleederz will not be a nil pointer. Two songs left on 0! Poor Wardy and mysterious other person. He also quintuples my points so I’ll happily take that.

Thanks Jade for the points in return as well, already have more points than Ought got in total cheer.gif x

Now it’s revealed that Addy is behind ‘Malo’ by Bebe! He’s currently doing very well in 6th place. This is one of our foreign language songs as ‘Malo’ is a Spanish entry. Bebe’s delivery is soft to an extent during the verses, but suddenly both her vocals and the production ramp up significantly during the chorus and create quite an angsty experience. The video sees her performing on stage with a guitar and has a monochrome effect layered over it. Could ‘Malo’ possibly take the crown tonight? If not, then Bebe can still rest easy, as this was nominated for multiple Latin Grammys. Addy awards Larkin Poe 12 points so that shoots up to just outside the top 10. His silver goes to FalKKonE so this Chez entry climbs up to 2nd! Could Chez be a bridesmaid yet again in a song contest? Finally, his bronze goes to Wardy’s entry ‘Blackbird’ so that is now off 0 in style! it’s just Club Drive, the song that opened the contest, waiting for points now. Oops.

Well... this is going to be interesting to follow honestly. That said, thanks in advance for the people who enjoyed "You" by We The Lion. happy.gif

As it was previously mentioned, they are a band from my country, which I recently discovered (yeah, the irony if it's considered that they released their debut album four years ago!) and I found that this was a great opportunity to let them know too.

Side note: Thank you Maurice! wub.gif

Alter Bridge had an unfair advantage for me as I've been listening to them ever since they formed in 2004! Excited to find out who sent them, the whole Blackbird album is amazing wub.gif

Next up it’s Jordan! Who is sorry for leaving it so late but is still as early as the 9th voter. He is behind American band BAILEN, consisting of three siblings, with the song ‘Your Love Is All I Know’. This entry sounds very Fleetwood Mac influenced. Jord is currently sitting in the top 20 with this. He gave 12 points to ‘Blackbird’ and was excited to find out who sent Alter Bridge, well, as we know now - it was Wardy! ‘Blackbird’ had 0 points until the last two votes - where it received two medals in a row. What a turnaround! This entry now sits in the top 15. Jordan’s 10 points go to Windwaker, sending ‘My Empire’ into the top 10. The 8 points also provide Math The Band with a climb into the top 10. Jordan also gives my entry a boost into the top 20, yay! Every song has now received points, as these 3 points to Club Drive lift it off 0. cheerbleederz drop down to last as a result.

If you thought Iz was the one behind the Finnish power metal band… then you’d be absolutely right! Here we have ‘Whirlwind’ by Sonata Arctica. That band name sounds pretty strong - it’s quite amusing that they originally went with the much less powerful sounding Tricky Beans. ‘Whirlwind’ sounds as epic as the band name, with a big chorus and towering guitars. There’s some lovely imagery to be found too like leaves dancing in the wind. They go hard with the wind theme actually, as the song opens with a noise that sounds like the wind blowing. Iz is team #longsongbloc as he awards his 12 to the 13 minute song (rising to the top 15 as a result) and 8 go to the 20 minute one (now sitting in joint 2nd - only 2 points between 1st and 2nd now!). Otherwise, H.E.R.O. slot into the silver medal position and rise to the top 20. Amyl & The Sniffers and Club Drive currently share the last place spot following the cheerbleederz points.

That's not your fault at all Wardy! Don't worry smile.gif

Posted by: Juan Carlos May 31 2020, 06:51 PM

If it's taken into consideration that it was already revealed, I'm glad that someone (Addy, in this case) submitted a song by Bebe. In case you're not aware, "Malo" is a song about gender violence, hence the reason how deep her vocals and production are throughout the song, as well as her follow-up single "Ella".

Posted by: Riser May 31 2020, 06:52 PM

Yay for being revealed. I appreciate the points so far! I very much agree with the Fleetwood Mac comparison, I actually think of their sound as a mix of Fleetwood Mac and Hanson - it's more evident with another song of theirs I considered sending.

Posted by: Izzy May 31 2020, 06:53 PM

Yeah 'Whirlwind' is the highlight off their latest album, particularly because of those wind sounds and the way the hook line just keeps going and going, I've been a casual fan of them for a while now, so I hope it picks up soon x

Posted by: Brett-Butler May 31 2020, 06:54 PM

Well if Iz wasn't behind the Tokyo Ghoul entry (still dazed that it was Chez responsible for it), then this would have been my 2nd guess.

Posted by: Bré May 31 2020, 06:54 PM

A very nice entry from Jordan, was kind of giving me similar vibes to HAIM's latest single as well as Fleetwood Mac ~ Sonata Arctica was a pretty strong Iz-type Iz entry too, shame I couldn't have fit either of those into my votes.

Hello you lovely, lovely people of the Nuggets-entering variety.

A lovely mix of different songs in the contest this time, all connected by six strings and attempts at approximating a melody. Here are the 10 that got my votes this time around -

12. Larkin Poe - Preachin' Blues
10. cheerbleederz - sometimes i cry at work
8. Colony House - You Know It
7. Soccer Mommy - Circle the Drain
6. Shangralas - White Gold
5. BAILEN - Your Love Is All I Know
4. We The Lion - You
3. Ellis - Shame
2. Westerman - Confirmation
1. Moaning - Fall In Love

Brett is now revealed as the poster behind ‘What Are We Doing?’ by EGOISM! They’re a dream-pop duo from Australia. The song is about learning to let go of the little worries we have. I could definitely do with taking this advice. A combination of the semantics and the sound of the song result in one of the most relaxed entries of the contest. It sports a simple, retro looking video too. Brett is currently sitting in 24th place. As for his votes, he awards Larkin Poe a full 12 points so that shoots into the top 5! Only one poster has been revealed in the current top 5. Brett’s 10 goes to cheerbleederz so now ‘sometimes i cry at work’ is sitting just outside the top 20. Lastly, his bronze medal heads in the direction of Colony House, so ‘You Know It’ catapults into the top 10!

It is Dobbo who is behind the entry that gave us all a serious case of whiplash on plug.dj! This is because the music video transforms from club beats, to a relaxing harp song… to the actual piece of music which is a BAGPIPE BANGER!!! ‘In Taberna’ is one of our foreign language entries - this time courtesy of the Italian folk metal band Folkstone. They went in hard with both the song and music video for sure. Dobbo currently sits in the top 20. His votes prove to be quite impactful too! Previous winner Working Men’s Club fall to 3rd, while 8 points to FalKKonE and 3 to Karnataka push them both ahead. Oh wow. 1 point to Club Drive also ensures that it’s just Amyl & The Sniffers at the bottom. A surprising last placer so far! Elsewhere, Dobbo awards his 12 to Math The Band so ‘Four To Six’ had advanced from being sixth to fourth. How satisfying. 10 points to Alter Bridge also sees that in joint 10th. Phew!

Shangralas turned up on a Spotify New Music playlist some time last year with 17. As soon as the vocals started, it was pretty obvious they were from somewhere in the vicinity of Sheffield laugh.gif So yes, there is more than a hint of Arctic Monkeys about them but I think the main reason for that is that both bands have a singer who doesn't try to hide his regional accent.

Yse, EGOISM was my entry. It's a shoegaze-y track, so it might have gone over a lot of people in this contest, plus it was the last song in the running order so might have been overlooked, which is why I believe it's in the bottom third. But gosh, I absolutely love it to pieces.

Now our first Indie mod is revealed! WhoOdyssey is behind ’sometimes i cry at work’ by cheerbleederz. They’re a London-based all female trio. The song is about battling with fluctuations of confidence, inadequacy and imposter syndrome, holding you back from what you want to achieve. I feel somewhat personally attacked, even if I haven’t cried at work for a while. Anyway, alongside the song they provide us with a quarantine friendly at home music video. Whoddy is currently sitting in 23rd - an improvement from last earlier. Things get exciting at the top as Working Men’s Club are back up there with 56 points after an almighty drought ends, while FalKKonE take 2nd with 55 and Math The Band - following Whoddy’s silver medal - are 3rd with 54 points. Arggggh!! It’s so close up there! Elsewhere, WhoOdyssey awards Soccer Mommy a 12 so ‘Circle the Drain’ is as high as 5th place now, woah! Amyl & The Sniffers get his bronze so they are lifted off last place to a slightly more respectable 25th. Club Drive and Sonata Arctica now languish down in joint last, oops.

Next up it’s Dexton who is behind ‘You Know It’ by Colony House. This entry takes us back to the times of 60s surf rock - the Beach Boys influence really jumped out here! ‘You Know It’ is a very energetic song with an über catchy chorus - making it perfect for adverts. It featured in a Samsung one apparently. The band have stated that the song is about their growing popularity and the realities of life on the road. Dexton is doing pretty well so far as Colony House are sitting in 8th place. His 12 goes to Jordan’s entry ‘Your Love Is All I Know’ so that is now up to 12th. His 10 is then awarded to ‘Spare Time’ so that leaps out of last place. Poor Sonata Arctica are stuck down there alone now despite a point added to their tally. Dexton’s 8 goes to DI-RECT so this Maurice entry is now in the top 20. Ellis is back in the top 5 also. Still waiting to find out who most of these entries at the top belong to!

Sorry for this being so late — and for leaving the Plug session without saying anytning. Tsk.

Thank you for hosting!

My votes:

12 Soccer Mommy - Circle the Drain
10 BAILEN - Your Love Is All I Know
08 Ellis - Shame
07 Bebe - Malo
06 cheerbleederz - sometimes i cry at work
05 Working Men's Club - A.A.A.A.
04 Moaning - Fall In Love
03 Egoism - What Are We Doing?
02 DI-RECT - Times Are Changing
01 Club Smith - Young Defeatists

Now it’s blacksquare with ‘Confirmation’ by London-based musician Westerman! The glittering synths mixed with guitar and piano provide the recipe to a dreamy, 80s-sounding entry. It’s about the unpredictability of the creative process. How sometimes the best ideas are birthed when you’re not thinking about the project in hand at all. I just want to stargaze to the soundtrack of this right now tbh. ‘Confirmation’ is in a respectable 13th place right now. blacksquare gives Soccer Mommy a helping hand with 12 points, allowing that to advance into the top 5. BAILEN continues to make progress, with 10 points here, so this Jordan entry is now as high as 7th! 8 points go to Ellis so ‘Shame’ is up to 4th now. The top 3 remain unchanged.

Thanks Dexton & blacksquare! Back in the top 10 after dipping out yay ~

As I said in my votes I haven't really cared at all for the previous songs I'd heard from Westerman, they just came across to me as 'generic indie band #505', but there was definitely something a lot more standout about this song from them heart.gif

Very surprised at Math The Band being in the mix with the contenders at the moment.

16. King Rollo was behind…

Karnataka - Secrets of Angels

QUOTE
There were a great selection of songs in this contest. I couldn't find any room in my vote for the songs by Moaning,Westerman,Windwaker,Kasalla or Soccer Mommy. They were all very good. Here is my top 10:

12pts - Alter Bridge - Blackbird
10 - Sonata Arctica - Whirlwind
8 - Summoning - Land Of The Dead
7 - Colony House - You Know It
6 - Ellis - Shame
5 - Falkkone - Licht Und Schatten
4 - Club Smith - Young Defeatists
3 - Folkstone - In Taberna
2 - Larkin Poe - Preachin' Blues
1 - Bailen - Your Love Is All I Know

Next it is revealed that Rollo is behind the 20 minute song ‘Secrets of Angels’ by Karnataka. Who would’ve ever guessed that? Well, it is paying off for Rollo so far, as ‘Secrets of Angels’ currently sits in sixth place. The prog rock group decided to go by Karnataka after founding member Ian Jones was inspired by trips to India. They describe ‘Secrets of Angels’, taken from the album of the same name, as a “20-minute epic opus”. Oh it’s epic alright. There are plenty of twists and turns too in that duration. On plug.dj it was described as “a Frozen song with a guitar”. As for Rollo’s votes, he awards Alter Bridge his 12 so that climbs up to 9th place now. His 10 points to Sonata Arctica ensure that it rises from last place. Now it’s ‘Fox’ by Dogleg stuck down there. Rollo awards the second longest song in the contest ‘Land Of The Dead’ with 8 points so that is now in the top 15. Things still looking pretty nail-biting at the top.

So we just found out the identity of the poster behind the 20 minute song… now it’s revealed that Leww is the one behind the 13 minute song! Here we have a long atmospheric black metal epic from the Austrian group Summoning. This certainly stood out in the contest for the length, vocal style, choir chorus and powerful instrumentation! Leww is currently sitting in a respectable 15th place. #longsongbloc solidarity swiftly continues here as 12 points are awarded to Rollo’s 20 minute song from Karnataka, so that is now back up to 2nd! However, we have a new leader in Ellis who received Leww’s 8 points. Exciting. In the middle of those, the silver medal went to Moaning, so Bré finds himself back up to 7th.

Summoning I am sure will end up being one of the more memorable songs from this edition so I maybe should have thrown it a point or two for that alone - very bold choice. I'd say it's a shock coming from Leww but I remember at one point you were considering an even more extreme song as a BJSC potential laugh.gif

Posted by: King Rollo May 31 2020, 07:37 PM

Thanks to Chez and Leww for the 12s. I was confident Secrets Of Angels might get a few maximum scores even if many voters would not give it any points.

Next up we have RabbitFurCoat and he is behind ‘Starfire 500’ by Amyl & The Sniffers! They’re a pub rock / punk rock group from Australia. ’Starfire 500’ gives me serious Courtney Barnett vibes but that may just be the Australian thing. This entry is pretty suspenseful as the instrumental takes its sweet time to stop being the sole focus, with the vocals joining the wild guitar playing almost 2 minutes in. This entry is currently sitting in 25th - a bit of a recovery from earlier. RabbitFurCoat awards 12 points to Working Men’s Club so that is back up to 2nd! Ellis keeps the first place spot for now with an 8 point boost. Just 2 points between that top 2. Summoning also grab 10 points here so Leww is now tied for a top 10 spot!

I wasn't sure Starfire 500 would appeal to many, mainly because of the vocal. I saw them live last year and they were exceptional, listened to them a lot since then.

I've really enjoyed listening to Working Men's Club this year, glad to see them at the top.

Posted by: Bré May 31 2020, 07:47 PM

Thank you RFC! (Although I thought from your earlier post in this thread that you didn't particularly like Moaning? Unless you just meant you didn't like the previous songs you'd heard from them). 'Starfire 500' another one that I do really wish I'd had space to include in my votes.

Ellis is a nice new winner, voted for all of the current top 5 so hopefully should be heading for a winner I can approve of x

Next up it’s Pete who is unmasked as the sender of ‘Young Defeatists’ by Club Smith! The band, with members from York and Leeds, present this defiant festival ready anthem. They’re no strangers to live gigs of course as they’ve supported for the likes of Mystery Jets, Two Door Cinema Club, The Pigeon Detectives, Kaiser Chiefs, Shed Seven and more! Like ‘Malo’, this is another entry with a monochrome video too. ‘Young Defeatists’ is currently sitting in 19th place. As for Pete’s votes, he allows the winner to change once more as Working Men’s Club rise back to the top! Pete, behind Club Smith, shows solidarity to both the other ‘Club’ bands actually - with 8 points to Working Men’s Club and also the full 12 to Club Drive! The latter entry rises to 22nd. Pete also awards 10 points to Shangralas so this Suedey entry is now sitting in 9th place!

Hey Jade,

Wow, what a great edition! Let's see my votes:

12 Summoning - Land Of The Dead
10 FalKKonE - Licht Und Schatten
08 Folkstone - In Taberna
07 Shangralas - White Gold
06 Alter Bridge - Blackbird
05 Math The Band - Four To Six
04 Club Smith - Young Defeatists
03 Ellis - Shame
02 Whirlwind - Sonata Artica
01 Moaning - Fall In Love

I spoiled my 12-pointer hard on plug, but I'm really, really into 'Land Of The Dead' (my personal number 1 this week! - this is only the second time that a Nuggets entry is on top, the first one was Mitski's 'Your Best American Girl' which I still love).
So again, special thanks to the person submitting 'Summoning', what a gem!

My whole top 10 is great though, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to keep listening to many of them.

I can't see 'Stadt met K' doing THAT well (hope it's not bottom 5 though), I love it to bits, hope it found its fans! It was a pain not telling anything about the band and 'K' during the plug session.

Iz 100% deserves to win, 'Licht Und Schatten' is fantastic.

Now it’s time for FrankLuck’s votes! He is revealed as the poster behind ’Stadt met K’ by Kasalla. This is another one of our foreign language entries - this time the band are German. The name of the group apparently means ‘anger’ or ‘riot’ although this song itself is fairly feel-good for me. The “sha la la la la” part in particularly is one of the catchiest moments of the whole contest. Frank is pleased with the entries although seems to have misidentified Chez as Iz! However, he does still vote for Iz’s actual entry. The 10 points for Chez puts FalKKonE back into the top 3! Frank’s 12 goes to Leww’s 13 minute epic so that is now up to 8th. Lastly, the 8 points are awarded to Folkstone so that now lifts up a bit to 19th.

Next it’s Harry who was behind the opening song ‘Spare Time’ by Club Drive! The British group were compared to both Lawson and Maroon 5 on plug.dj with their pop-rock sound. The main hook is “I just don’t know what you do in your spare time” and the video decides to showcase exactly what people are doing outside their day-to-day activities. Harry is currently sitting in 23rd with this, just ahead of me (yay 7 points!). He also shows ‘club’ band solidarity as the person behind Club Drive - as he awards 12 points to Club Smith! This Pete entry is now up to 13th. His 10 points to FalKKonE pushes that up to 2nd, as he also gives 8 to Working Men’s Club - so that remains at the top. Everything is definitely all still to play for!

Now it’s Cody who presents his votes! But first, he is behind Windwaker with ‘My Empire’. These guys are a metalcore band from Australia. I find it seriously impressive that it’s one guy doing all of the vocals on this song - what a range! It’s a pretty electrifying entry. They keep the video simple though with the warehouse and playing instruments treatment. Cody awards 12 points to Moaning so Bré is now in the top 5! He then gives Harry’s entry 10 points so that’s now up to 17th - right next to Cody himself. Finally, his bronze goes to ‘Bad Blood’ which is now up to 23rd. The support for FalKKonE puts it just 2 points behind the winner!!

Cody! heart.gif feel like this might be the first time I've ever got top points from you in any contest? ohmy.gif (thanks Frank for another point also ~)

Windwaker was a cool entry, giving me some strong Enter Shikari vibes.

Posted by: Commander Cody May 31 2020, 08:07 PM

well i mean I should have seen this flop coming

I found it in triple j and had considered it for BJSC as a spiritual sequel to Written By Wolves but then never got round to it after ~certain events~ so I decided to rush confirm it here after getting vetoed after the deadline blink.gif it just sucks that it had to do mediocre in a Nuggets Edition that was also pretty mediocre

Next it’s Seven who is unsurprisingly behind potentially the most whacky entry - ‘Four To Six’! He’s doing extremely well right now as Math The Band are top 5. This group define their music as ‘Nintendocore’. Interesting. Well, it’s a memorable tag for a standout song - the electronic element of the production in particular is giving me the energy I need when typing this up at 4:13am right now. Oops. Seven decides to award his 12 to a song with completely the opposite vibes - that’s Westerman, who climbs up to 13th as a result. His silver medal goes to Dogleg and as a result ‘Fox’ is no longer last! The wooden spoon falls back in Iz’s hands instead. Finally, Seven awards 8 points to Frank’s entry which moves it up to 24th place.

Hi Jade, sorry for the delay. Here are my votes for Nuggets 12:

10 points: Colony House - You Know It
8 points: Club Drive - Spare Time
7 points: We The Lion - You
6 points: Bebe - Malo
5 points: Club Smith - Young Defeatists
4 points: KASALLA - STADT MET K
3 points: Windwaker - My Empire
2 points: Shangralas - White Gold
1 point: EGOISM - What Are We Doing?

Now it’s uhsting with ‘Bad Blood’ by H.E.R.O! These guys are a rock band from Denmark. This entry is currently as low as 24th which is disappointing as it has such a huge chorus. Then again, my entry is only one spot above it in 23rd so the taste did not jump out! As for uhsting’s taste, he decided to award 12 points to Math The Band. This means SevenSeize climbs a place to joint 3rd. 10 points then go to Colony House so that is up to 7th. Finally, 8 points to Club Drive results in a rise to 17th. Seven's joint position aside, the top three still remain unchanged despite the drought for each of them!

Next it’s Jacob who is behind ‘Preachin’ Blues’ by Larkin Poe. These girls are sisters and specialise in bluesy type rock music. This entry feels very soulful and packed with great guitar moments - with an infectious instrumental melody and a banjo thrown in for good measure. They are currently sitting in 20th place. Speaking of 20… Jacob awards top marks to 20 minute entry ‘Secrets Of Angels’! This puts Rollo back up to 6th. Egoism then receives Jacob’s silver, so that’s now up to 17th for Brett. Finally, getting the 8 points is Club Smith so Pete is in 10th place now! The gap between the top 2 widens to 5 points.

As I’m typing this it’s 5:18am (sigh) and dhwe is the last voter who landed in my inbox before the deadline. He’s behind ‘Fox’ by Dogleg - an American indie rock band who have achieved some critical acclaim. This song is full speed ahead from the word go with its charging guitars and passionate vocal performance. The repeated “any moment now, I will disintegrate” lyric repeated near the end provides some tension too. Unfortunately dhwe is down there in 28th but at least not last I guess. His 12 points go to Soccer Mommy so that is up in 6th. Moaning get a big silver medal boost and is up to joint 3rd. Then I finally get my first medal position of the night!! So I’m now… 22nd. Oops. Definitely coming for my lowest Nuggets finish to date! Never mind. So, we have three members that have not provided votes yet and all of them are in the top 10! Working Men’s Club = 1st. Ellis = 5th. Soccer Mommy = 6th. But who is who? Are they going to submit late votes? I’m only going to give the 12 point deduction if they’re a non-voter. Everything could change. There are a measly 6 points separating 1st and 5th. Who is going to take the crown? Well… I’m off to bed at this point because it’s 5:24am at the time of typing this but the suspense is probably going to keep my brain ticking for a while!!!

It is now a more sensible time of 1:54pm the next day when I’m writing this. We are now confirmed to have some late votes so the journey did not end last night. Jupiter has come through and he is revealed to be behind Soccer Mommy with ‘circle the drain’! This is a hard hitting song with its themes of depression. The video has a bit of a nostalgic feel to it with the skatepark setting. I could totally imagine this on a soundtrack like Mean Girls or some other rom com type movie. Jupiter is currently sitting in 7th place so he’s nailing these song contests lately - fresh off a BJSC win and podium finish in my Club Bizarre contest too. His votes… CHANGE THE WINNER!!! Omg. His 6 points to Moaning puts it in 1st for the FIRST time tonight! Could I be handing over the win to Bré? That would be goals. Wow these results are crazy, I’m so excited for you guys to see them yourselves. Anyway, elsewhere Jupiter awards 12 points to We The Lion so Juan Carlos is now up to 12th. H.E.R.O. then get 10 so advance to 21st. Club Drive round off the medals with a set of 8 - that is now top 15. Harry really turned things around! Pete is kicked out of the top 10 in favour of awardinary.

Edit: Okay… it’s 4pm now as I’m typing and dandy and Pavel did not submit late votes. So… BRÉ HAS WON!!!! Congrats Bré on your first ever Nuggets win omg cheer.gif I feel much less bad about blocking you from the win in Nuggets 9 now kink.gif

I shall reveal which song was dandy’s and which was Pavel’s in the next post, then I shall present you with the FINAL scoreboard after that with ties and deductions implemented.

Sorry for not voting. I forgot to do it and just like Dandy said, it wasn't fair to base on just a listen. sad.gif

7th after deduction though lmao. Thank you for the support and the endless amount of 8 pointers oops. JERD <3

THIRD, NOT SECOND. I will take that, I was seriously panicking I'd be the bridesmaid yet again there laugh.gif That's a fantastic result, finally breaking my Nuggets + Jade hosted contest curse of flopping, I expected this to have a few big fans and that's it, certainly not to the extent I'd have a podium finish. Thank you all very much for voting <3 Some great songs in the top 10 as well, including all of my top 3 surrounding me!

Thanks very much for hosting, Jade, as smooth and well written a results show as ever!

Ellis had an album out a few weeks ago and it's stunning. "Shame" is the best song on there however.

So my Nuggets placings are now: 01-15-01-23 laugh.gif very all over the place. Perhaps it means good things for next contest though thinking.gif

This writeup is wonderful Jade, its obvious you're a writer!

This made me smile earlier btw heart.gif I really enjoyed commentating even if I was becoming a bit unhinged by 5am laugh.gif

+ no problem also Chez! x

Congratulations Bre on winning. A very good song that was just outside my points.

I'm happy with 4th place. I think that's my highest Nuggets finishing position. Thanks to all who voted for Secrets Of Angels.

I've just realised that Leww has given me maximum points in the last three anonymous song contests, two Club Bizarres and now this one.

Thanks to Jade for hosting this contest with her usual enthusiasm.

Congratulations Bre, and thanks Jade for a great, well organised contest.

Posted by: SevenSeize May 31 2020, 09:01 PM

wait what ohmy.gif I thought Math the Band was a surefire flop based on the plug reaction, I guess the silent majority came through for it ??

thanks to those great people who voted for it, refreshing to actually do well in a song contest again!

(wonderful job on hosting too Jade <3)

Congratulations on the win Bre and thanks to Jade for hosting. I thought the Moaning song had a very 80s vibe to it which might help to explain why it got my twelve points biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bré May 31 2020, 09:03 PM

So it took me sending a song that is just a little skirting on the boundaries of what can really be considered a 'guitar-led' song kink.gif but yaaaay at finally winning one of the contests in this forum after so many years wub.gif and quite a dramatic way to win, snatching it in the last couple of votes after not really being in contention at any point before that! Ofc it also feels pretty ~special~ winning back-to-back with Jade so she got to be the one to announce it *.* thanks again to everyone who voted for Moaning (and do check out their other song 'Connect The Dots' which I linked earlier if you were a fan of this one x), excited to have the opportunity to host one of these now, hopefully not another whole year from now biggrin.gif

Math The Band coming incredibly close to winning, if anything I'd have predicted that to actually end up quite near the bottom argh!! That would have been one of the most surprising winners of any of these contests to date if they had done it (for me at least). Very pleased at both of my top 2 also being in the top 4 prior to the deductions, shame that dandy* kicked himself out of the medal positions but still hanging onto the top 5 so could be worse! Great to have Karnataka top 5 and Soccer Mommy and Ellis in the top 10 as well (the latter also surviving the deduction pretty well of course). Bebe and Westerman both deserved a lot better but at least they are top 20 - poor brave BLOXX definitely did not deserve that fate! </3 And the whole of the bottom 4 were at least in my commiserations as well, big boos xx

Thanks Jade for the wonderful hosting again, as ever it's always fun to read all the extra stuff you add in when hosting these!

My snazzy widget has arrived *.* after immediately harassing Joseph to add it

Congrats Bre! #JupiterDecides

And a top 10 for me too, I'm on fire ! Maybe I'll end up charting that myself finally now then!

I’ll take 5th gladly seeing as I couldn’t vote. Thanks to everyone who voted for the track, they’re one of the few guitar bands I’ve been following this year so glad others liked them too.

Sorry again for not voting Jade - and OMG at all you being the host both times I’ve not voted ohmy.gif

Well done Bré, glad I could award you some points that helped toward your victory. Look forward to the next contest hopefully in the not too distant future!

Before I forget, thank you for hosting Jade! happy.gif

Congrats Bray, what an exciting finish! I'm glad you would've won anyway and that it wasn't affected by deductions. Also big cheers to Math The Band finishing second after a slow start!

I'm very very pleased with 13th, after thinking my entry might be overlooked by not having as much guitar as other songs. And mostly trickle points too so a lot of people liked it <3

Great hosting Jade, thanks so much! A shame that BLOXX didn't do any better.

Posted by: Bré May 31 2020, 11:08 PM

Oh yeah, very thankful that this was a legitimate win rather than just being handed to me due to a deduction xx 93 points seems a little on the low end for a contest with this many votes in it (only just beating the number of points I got when I came a somewhat distant 2nd three contests ago) but a win is a win magic.gif

Posted by: HarryEzra May 31 2020, 11:33 PM

Oh wow I'm actually shocked I came 14th?? Like I thought I was bottom 5 material lol. I'm glad I got some good points especially the 12 from Pete (lol did both the club bands give each other 12 that's so funny Haha)

Anyway congrats be! And once again, fab hosting Jade *.

THIS wub.gif

Bebe 'Malo' undeservedly flopped!!!

Congrats to Bre and your guitar widget cheer.gif

Congrats Bré, even if I wasn't so much a fan of the song and you people are just kind of wrong to do 'Whirlwind' so dirty like that and I'd have preferred 2nd or 3rd place to win, I guess Nuggets is back to disappointing me x

it'll be good to have you hosting though, just like Jade did an excellent job of hosting here!

15th! Not bad considering its limited potential appeal - I'm glad to have found a couple of fans.

Amazing winner! Well done Bré. Fabulous hosting Jade x

Congrats Bre! And thanks again to Jade for hosting.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Jun 1 2020, 05:07 PM

Well I guess Top 10 is two different contests within a week was too much to ask tongue.gif But I'm very happy with 11th for Club Smith! I found out about them as their drummer is now the drummer for Kaiser Chiefs magic.gif

Me and Harry exchanging 12s as well! The Club club really came out in force. Also I was wondering who sent We The Lion as it's been in my Personal Chart for a few months now, I should have guessed Juan Carlos though since he is actualy from Peru.

Congrats Bré, one of the best songs in the contest and thanks Jadde for hosting as well!

It may only have finished in 10th place here, but Blackbird by Alter Bridge has been voted as the third best song of the 21st Century by readers of Classic Rock magazine.
