Yep you are right Jupiter. He is probebly approching 45 million cause the Greatest hits has also sold well since IC's release biggrin.gif

Nope. But if he was big in the USA then his last 3 or 4 would've easily all sold over 10 million happy.gif

I just read on Haven that he is the 32nd best selling singles artist in the UK history with nearly 5.5 million sold. Since Robbie has'nt been a big single seller since the 'Sing When Your Winnning' era, I think it is fantastic. Westlife with all their 14#1's and the rest top 5's still have'nt sold as much as Rob ohmy.gif happy.gif

He has also sold over 18.5 million albums in the UK. So over 24 million records sold in the UK alone in 10 years. Simply amazing happy.gif

Posted by: Supreme Dec 20 2006, 10:09 PM

Thats because he is the greatest!! But...
Someone told me that you have to sell ten mill in your own country
or district to go diamond, because they said, kelly clarkson sold ten
mill on her first album, but because they werent strictly US sales,
she didnt get the diamond certificate?
I think thats stupid, if you sell
ten mill you sell ten mill!

Updated with sales from various other countries. Not sure if alot of them are right though as they were posted up on Ukmix early 2005. So alot of them will be higher. sleep.gif Canada and US sales are right though. thumbup.gif I'd imagine he's sold about 1.2 million albums in the US and Canada. happy.gif

only in US albums get a diamond award with shipments of 10.000.000 albums of 1 release there. If an album sells 10 mill copies globally why should it get a US diamond certification when it hasn't sold 10m there??? Kelly Clarksons Album sold 5.6 mill copies in the US, it has not even been certified for 6.000.000 copies shipped to stores.. so why should it get diamond?

BTW so many people say Robbie is nothing in america but His US compilation the ego has landed sold 600.000 copies there (thats basically the same glitter by mariah or american life by madonna sold there).. so if he hadn't give in at that time he could have been the biggest european artist there by now. With 45 million albums in 10 years RW is the biggest selling solo european artist of the century.

Yeah I agree. If he had've stuck at it back in 1999 I think he would be huge sad.gif Over a million sold in US/Canada is'nt bad though at all. happy.gif

If you round his album sales off to the nearest million, then he has sold almost 50 million. ohmy.gif

When he signed his record breaking £80 million deal with EMI in 2002 they said he had sold 22 million albums, this was a month or two before Escapology, so I'd imagine sales of his first 5 albums looked like this rounded off to the nearest million. thumbup.gif

Life Thru A Lens: 4 million
Ive Been Expecting You: 5 million
The Ego Has Landed: 1 million
Sing When You're Winning: 6 million
Swing When You''re Winning: 6 million

Total: 22 million like EMI said. happy.gif

Then before his Greatest Hits was released it was announced he had sold 32 million, so Escapology's and Live at Knebworth Sales would look something like this. Although the 6.5 million for Escapology was late 2003 so I think it may be near 7m now. happy.gif

Escapology: 6.5 million
Live at Knebworth: 3.5 million

Then before IC was released it was announced he had sold over 38 million. the Greatest Hits had sold 6 million, and went on to sell a further 1.1m as of last March. So 7.1 million at least. sleep.gif

Greatest Hits: 7.1 million
Intensive Care: 7 million (by now definatly as it was on 6.7 million 4 months back.)

Rudebox has sold (shipped) about 2.5 million.

So if you round all off to the nearest million then he is on almost 50 million alexis.gif

Simply amazing for 10 years and only just a million in the US alexis.gif

Posted by: stevyy Jan 15 2007, 04:45 PM

the list above is just sales for albums released this decade (from 2000).. so i guess that also his previous albums sold quite well this decade and that he has at least sold 40.000.000 albums just in this decade.. he probably could overtake britney when he releases new albums over the next years cause britneys career obviously is over.. and consider out of the 65 million for eminem the half of that are US sales..

Maybe WH Smith were selling the GH for £1.99 or something? unsure.gif

Posted by: TessaT Jan 21 2007, 07:26 PM

No It's funny really, but I noticed a couple of weeks ago on Itunes that GH was in the top 10 in about 5 Countries - must have been something to do with Xmas.
It's so disappointing with Rudebox - I dont care what anyone says its a great Album but unfortunately without Robbie there to personally promote it, it didnt happen for it.
I hope that its unexpected realease has not made a bags of it for his future album releases.

Posted by: jupiter9 Jan 21 2007, 08:04 PM

That Rav person in the News of the Screws called Rudebox 'an absolute stinker of an album' in his article about Robbie's new g/f. And I bet he hasn't even heard it.
But comments like that are damaging. dry.gif

Yep, that bast*rd mad.gif

Was'nt it Vicky who praised the album, the NOTW gave it 4 stars if my memery servs me correctly as well as giving both the singles Rudebox and Lovelight 4 stars. rolleyes.gif

Posted by: TessaT Jan 21 2007, 09:14 PM

It's weird but I had a real Baaaaaaaaaaaaaad feeling when Ian Hyland gave Lovelight 5 * I think before Xmas - that's bloody bad luck as far as I am concerned.
I am sure that Robbie will come back with something completely new again & more than likely shock everyone again. Financially anyway he is not under pressure like many new acts out there & can really not worry too much anymore about getting number 1's. ( Pride maybe ) !!!!!
Anyway at the moment its just Robbie bashing time & probably will continue until after the Brits.
BTW - The voting closes next Friday on this - so busy fingers all week - .
He needs to win this to shut them up .

I wonder will he actually go to the awards - I saw today where TT are one on the live acts. Im' sure it will be unusual for Robbie to be sitting in the audience just watching them - but then again it may be a good thing & they can just all move on with their own careers.

Posted by: Scotty. Jan 21 2007, 09:48 PM

I have a feeling he will show up. happy.gif He did say the other day that it will be nice to show up and not have to keep going up and down collecting awards. tongue.gif

btw, I have spent ages on the Official site this evening and found out Angels has sold 1.5m worldwide. happy.gif

Posted by: TessaT Jan 21 2007, 10:07 PM

You know I really like that U2 track ' Window in the Sky ' & also the video.

You dont hear anyone criticising U2 too much ( and they dont have too many number 1's either anymore , then again maybe I have just got too sensitive when it comes to the Robster.

Posted by: Scotty. Jan 21 2007, 10:12 PM

Well U2 are the biggest band in the world and have been for over 20 years. Their last album sold almost 10m worldwide and gave them two UK #1 singles. tongue.gif

Windows in the skies and the Saints are coming both got to #1 in a few countries around the world as well. happy.gif

I love the song as well, thought it was boring at first but it reallt grew on me and the vid is fantasic. cool.gif

Posted by: stevyy Jan 22 2007, 08:46 PM

its always the homecountries of artists who are bashing them the most..

whiel rob is really loved everyhwere in europe, he gets critizised in UK without a point.. his album is said to be the worst ever released.. i mean rob is a british superhero, why are they doing that to him? It's the same for other artists. I think robs career is not yet past its heights. I think his best and most successful album has not yet come.

So Rudebox had shipped/sold at least 2.8M at the end of 2006 and was'nt even released in the US. That's nearly 3M in a little over 2 months. Pretty amazing for an album that got no promotion and his totally different from his usual material happy.gif

I think as far as ' Rudebox ' is concerned it's done & dusted & on to the next thing. Mr RW is not known for sitting on his laurels .

Posted by: RF4L Jan 30 2007, 07:58 PM

With the attitude towards Rob at the moment, I don't think any promotion he'd do would help Rudebox at this point and instead just be seen as a desperate attempt at resuscitating something that was dead on arrival in many people's eyes. I just think he should leave it be and move on which as Tessa says that's what Rob does and I hope he does it here. If Lovelight didn't do anything, I can't see She's Madonna, especially paired with the video, making any dents whatsoever.

Funny thing is I actually love this album & in my eyes it has not been a failure but I think its gone as far as it can ( especially in the UK ) but I am hoping that the sales of the album may continue elsewhere for sometime yet. Its a really beautiful album & its one that I am not getting fed up of. - Its still selling quite a bit each week according to the Global Track Charts. I cannot see Robbie spending too much time worrying about it . Oh I agree, I think its one of Rob's best albums and I absolutely love it and have been playing it since it was released and I'm not tired of it yet. I haven't seen it as a flop either, how many flops reach number 1 ?! But I was referring to some of the press seeing Rudebox as a dud and the attitude towards Rob at the moment is not positive to say the least which is why I think he should just leave it be and even promotion at this point don't think would help. I couldn't care less about sales and chart positions, I absolutely adore Rudebox.

it did go to No.1 in fourteen countries locott.

Unfortunately we never read stuff like that in the lousy UK press. Rudebox has also picked up 3 plantinum awards in Germany and 2 in Australia and I am sure it has picked up awards in other countries too.

Not Robbie's biggest seller, and approx 3 million is still quite low for Robbie. I hope it will be one of those albums that sells slowly through time and then suddenly takes off again for whatever reason.

Nope. It was made official by music week that in the two months it was released in 2006 alone it did 2.8m copies globally. thumbup.gif

The album has underperformed in the UK, however Robbie is far far bigger outside the UK than in it these days. #1 in 14 countries and the album did'nt have any promotion whatsoever. Don't be fooled by the pathetic negetivivty of the British press. They would'nt dream of printing anything about Rob unless it was slagging him off which is why people rarely hear about how huge he is worldwide. sad.gif

Where did you get them? on the German IFPI site only two of his singles are certified which is annoying. It's great to have all his sales though. 7.6m singles between The UK and Germany alone so he must've sold more than 15m singls in total. Somewhere between 15-20m definatly biggrin.gif

Hey Stevvy, I was wondering how much Swing sold in Germany. On the IFPI.DE site it was awarded 4x platinum in 2002. Yes. I recken it is basically all up to Rob wether or not he wants massive sales again or to continue releasing less commercial material such as Rudebox but actually love making it. All he has to do is make an album like IC or along those pop/rock lines, and actually promote it, and he will have massive sales yet again. Or even Swing, his last Swing album sold near 7 million. I was watching Britains Rich List tonight where Rob was the youngest rock star mentioned.....they made some interesting comments oustide of mentioning Rob...

They said that in general this year physical Album sales were down to to downloading & nusic being free on the net,
Young musicians would never again be given the type of deals that were available to artists some years back ( Rob would be one of them ).... they also said that the high earners had been around for years such as The Rolling Stones, & had made their money over many years, the same as Rob & that it takes many many years of touring to make that kind of money. The Rolling Stones are around for what 30 years so Rob is unique in that he has managed to make so much money in 10 years.
The press chose to ignore these facts when talking about Rob as they just focus on low sales.

I believe that Tim Clark & David Enthoven & Rob know exactly what they are doing & they recognise that album sales are now only part of the total package & that the day of high album sales are disappearing hence all the other advertising campaigns that Rob is involved in & collaborations.
TT's album was pretty unique in what it sold this year in the UK but that has to be put down to the nostalgia factor... if Rob has beenaway for ten years & came back we would all be running out to buy his album.

Some good news about IC. It re-entered the chart at #169 two weeks ago, and has climbed to #120 this week. Another album on it's way to 2m, hopefully one day it will. No-one in music history has had as many 2m+ selling albums, he has 6 of them, so it will hopefully be 7 one day. happy.gif

Also the Greatest Hits re-entered at #155. Still selling well, happy.gif

I could not believe it either....how many has IC sold world wide...it's a great album though & Stephen Duffy must be thrilled.....
It's also amazing how GH just keeps selling & selling.......

Does anyone speak German on this site....if so could the article in the following link be roughly translated ( the general gist of the story )......It was done last year by Guy in Germany & Rob is mentioned several times.

UK music hits high note in Europe

13:8:2007
BPI

- Global success for homegrown talent, as UK acts claim one in five artist album sales in Germany and one in ten in France

- Share of Anglo-American music market in Germany increases for third straight year

- UK record industry sells 27 million albums in Germany and France in 2006

New figures released today by UK recorded music industry association the BPI show that the UK's share of the German and French recorded music markets hit a four-year high in 2006.

Germany and France are the world's fourth and fifth largest markets for recorded music, together accounting for 13% of world sales. Global hit albums from James Blunt, Katie Melua and Robbie Williams helped boost the UK's share of these markets to 19.9% and 10.7% respectively - the highest in each market for four years.

Germany

The UK's share of the German albums market increased by more than five percentage points on 2005 to 19.9%, and with 21.2 million album sales the UK's share of the Anglo-American market grew for a third consecutive year.

The figures, supplied by Media Control GfK International, show that the UK claimed a 44.8% share of the Anglo-American market - an increase on 2005's tally of 44.4% and 2004's tally of 37.2%.

UK artists with well-established German fanbases achieved particularly strong sales with Coldplay and Depeche Mode also among the year's best sellers, but debuts from Corinne Bailey Rae and James Morrison also featured in the German top 100.

Katie Melua’s second album Piece By Piece was the best selling UK album of the year and the second best selling record in Germany overall.

In total, twenty three of the top-100 albums were by UK artists, who also claimed a 20.3% share of total German airplay audience according to figures from Nielsen Music Control.

France

The UK's share of the French market increased for a second successive year, claiming 10.7% of the market, according to BPI analysis of the top-selling 250 albums. More than one in ten albums sold in France are now by UK acts, a strong proportion in what is Europe's second strongest market for domestic repertoire after Russia.

James Blunt's global hit Back to Bedlam was the biggest selling UK title in 2006, but Robbie Williams remains one of France's most popular artists with three titles in the UK artists’ top 20. UK artists also claimed a 12.4% share of the total airplay audience in 2006

As UK artists account for more than half of all albums sold in the UK, and one in 12 albums sold in the US - the largest market for recorded music in the world with one third of all sales - UK music continues to perform well in a challenging retail environment and in international markets increasingly dominated by domestic repertoire.

"Music is one of the UK's great cultural and economic exports" said BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor. "The fact that UK labels are gaining an increasing share of these major international markets demonstrates the diversity and quality of new British artists.

"But this creative success is threatened by the pervasive culture of freeloading online. If UK labels are to keep competing successfully on a world stage, they need government support in educating consumers that true music fans download legally. Only if there is a fair business environment that supports investment will our talent enjoy the opportunities it deserves and the potential of the UK's creative economy be realised."

I have updated the first page of this thread to make it look more impressive, and included full chart runs, , known chart positions of each single is various countries, estimates for worldwide sales of each single and album, and a list of Robbie's achievments biggrin.gif

The global singles sales are only estimates, some may be alot higher, and some may be too high (like Feel's 4m, but since loads of articles have said it has sold 4m then I will agree) tongue.gif

I just do not know who runs his site...he just cannot be monitoring it himself otherwise he would see what is happening & what his site is lacking in......It is such a pity & he only seems to make changes ( small as they are when the fans point it out to him face to face )..........it is annoying to say the least...............

Hey does anyone at all know this....Mr M or Osiris or someone!?!

At my Daughtry forum girls were talking about how Daughtry is
now touring with Bon Jovi but that others dont like it!
ONe girl says that she thought it was fantastic since Bon Jovi
was the hottest ticket in 2006 and out sold every concert!! rolleyes.gif

So i was thinking....I dont think so!!! Wasnt the hottest ticket
to me in 2006!!! happy.gif

Does anyone know if Rob made more then BJ in 2006???????

Posted by: Osiris Nov 13 2007, 02:32 AM

From what I know Bon Jovi's Have A Nice Day Tour was actually spanned over 2005/06 and he played infront of just over 2 million people, and the tour grossed a total of $131 million.

But Robbie's Close Encounters Tour only spanned from April to December 2006 and in total he played to over 3.5 million people, grossing over $340 million. Also he broke the record for ticket sales, selling 1.6 million tickets in one day.

So I think its safe to say that Robbie's tour was indeed bigger than Bon Jovi's

He seems to have been stuck at 55 million for about the last 5 years. Hasn't he sold a single CD in all that time? laugh.gif

You are mistaken Jups smoke.gif He was on 38m before IC was released 4 years ago, so 17m + in the past 4 years. The GH sells very well drink.gif

"Reality Killed the Video Star" went No. 6 in Mexico, not No. 1 - it has so far been certified Gold (40,000) and "Intensive Care" sold over 175,000 physicals but over 1 million in digital formats, it was pre-loaded to a Sony Ericsson mobile phone and it was certified 3xGold in Physicals and 2xDiamond in Digital so that'd be like 1.2 million in total

OMG, 1m digital sales in Mexico or globally? If it is Mexico alone that is amazing. Do you happen to have a source? Do you think those sales are included in IC global total, afterall it would be great if IC sold nearly 9 million laugh.gif

Thanks for the info, I thought it reached #1 - various peole said it had. Hopefully he will go over there and to South America to promote it as without promotion most people prob wouldnt even know he had an album out laugh.gif

Posted by: maggs! Feb 5 2010, 08:57 PM

it's 1.2 million in Mexico alone, but i think they only counted the 200,000 physicals, not the 2xDiamond of digital

it isn't digital sales as such, it's the album pre-loaded to a mobile phone on *.mp3 format along with some music videos and stuff, EMI and Robbie still got royalties from every sale so they are legitimate sales that's why EMI certified the album 2xDiamond as digital and Platinum & Gold as physical

so yeah, that's pretty much 1.2 million in Mexico alone cheer.gif

you can check the AMPROFON site, i would post the direct link but it doesn't let me post links until i post 5 times! LOL

Any updated figures? w00t.gif

Posted by: rundmck Aug 8 2011, 10:31 AM

So this is the most up to date list of Robbie's UK sales I can collate:

Life Thru A Lens 2,085,136*
I've Been Expecting You 2,568,075*
Sing When You're Winning 2,192,562*
Swing When You're Winning 2,266,752*
Escapology 2,054,982*
Live At Knebworth 621,759*
Greatest Hits 2,239,764*
Intensive Care 1,614,036*
Rudebox 511,736*
Reality KTVS 1,000,000** (+/-20,000)
In and Out of Consciousness 624,800**

*sales from Feb 10
**sales from July 11

To get a total I have therefore added these figures plus an additional conservative estimate of 50,000 sales of back catalogue since Feb 10

This gives total UK sales of 17,829,602
I would say this is probably correct to within 100k?

Posted by: liamk97 Aug 8 2011, 04:14 PM

The Reality Killed the Video Star total is far too generous, it will be much closer to 900k and definitely not over 1m tongue.gif

Posted by: rundmck Aug 8 2011, 11:02 PM

Robbie sold 753000 of RKTVS in 2009, and 265990 of his album sales in 2010 WEREN'T from IAOOC.

If you assume all those sales were for RKTVS, it would bring it's total to 1018990.

Obviously a small few of the sales will actually have been for other back catalogue albums, but even so, it would suggest RKTVS is now sitting right on 1 million sales

It hasn't been A, B or C listed on Radio 1 or 2 on the week of release which is not good but obviously getting lots of plays elsewhere to get to #11. Bodies was A Listed straight away on Radio 1. 3 years on is Rob now 'too old' for R1?

I had hoped now he has left EMI and gone to Universal - we wouldn't have to tolerate incompatence with regard to releases - but I fail to see how it makes any sense to release a song to radio SEVEN weeks before it's released. It is an insanely stupid idea. It should've been released on radio 2 weeks before the release date - followed by loads of promo and there would be a strong chance of his 7th #1. Strike while the iron is hot etc.. I remember complaining about Bodies being premiered a month before it's release being too early - this is 3 weeks longer.

Posted by: Buttonhole Sep 17 2012, 08:03 AM

Maroon 5's Move Like Jagger hits the airwaves so fast you would not believe it , Robbie is living in another planet when it comes to promoting himself, he gets it spot on is his live performances because that is what he is good at , by what he says it would seem that he leaves the decisions on singles etc to his management & the music label & tbh I am beginning to wonder if his management are living in the past & are still thinking of the Rock DJ days, give Robbie the right material & he can do it . It's all a bit sad in my opinion & now I am worried about the album

Hey guys, there is noted to this thread Rob's sales are:
Over 59m Albums /19.1m Singles

Albums sales are clear, well, maybe 60m now, OK.

But what about singles? As you remember he has 7.700.000 sales in UK only.
I'm not sure he has more than 11,5m sales in other countries. 7/8m seems more correct.

And are there his sales in Take That? 4 albums + 2 compilations (can we calculate them too if he wasn't in band in this period?) + singles...

I haven't updated those sales in ages so I will need to have a look at them all this week when adding in TTC and Candy. biggrin.gif

Singles sales have always been difficult to calculate for Rob as his record company never gave them, although I do recall when IC was released - IE Music had on their website that he had sold 14M or 15M (can't remember which) singles. However I am nearly sure when I&OOC came out - single sales of 11M were claimed by EMI. Clearly this is way too low as his single sales in the Uk and Germany alone nearly amount to that. I think 15M up to 2005 is too high, although at one point it was claimed at 'Feel' had sold 4M copies globally and was by far his biggest selling song worldwide. I don't see where this figure could come from but it was a big hit internationally and even if it's peak positions were not very high (due to it being released after Escapology) it's chart runs were very impressive. It went top 10 in Canada and spent over a year in the chart for example. It sold at least 600,000 in the UK/Germany and France alone (GER and FRA sales are for a long time ago for with digital sales added it would be far more now). So it's difficult - 19M singles is most likely too high as I did add the 4M that was reported for 'Feel' - but I think he has easily exceeded 15M singles at this stage.

As far as the TT sales go - I think the two Greatest Hits albums should be included as he sung on nearly every track on them. TT sales globally are very hard to calculate - but including the GH albums I would say around 19-20M albums - and about 11-12M singles globally - bringing the total to over 30M records with TT. The total record sales combined solo and TT without question exceeds 100M. happy.gif

Posted by: rundmck Nov 12 2012, 11:34 PM

Ok folks, from the most recent OCC info, we have exact totals for a grand total of 2 of Robbie's 12 albums. However, we do know the exact total of his total album sales.
Therefore, I have taken all the most recent album sales information, and increased them in line with general itunes popularity, to provide (hopefully fairly accurate) estimates of his current individual album sales. The main question mark ironically is RKTVS, as, despite being his most recent studio album before TTC, it is also has the longest period of time without exact sales info. Here we go:

Life Thru A Lens...................2,091,896
I've Been Expecting You ......2,579,000
Sing When You're Winning ..2,201,000
Swing When You're Winning 2,279,000
Escapology.........................2,065,000
Live At Knebworth...................624,000
Greatest Hits ......................2,249,000
Intensive Care .....................1,621,000
Rudebox ...............................516,000
Reality Killed The Video Star 1,002,000
In & Out of Consciousness ......672,650

Total: 17,984,054

didn´t Reality chart again last week? back in the day when an artist as huge as him had a new album out, the last one re entered the chart...that was a good way to now the sales. Anyways, I hope it has sold a million already, it was, it is, a good album

This album does not follow the patterns of the recent Robbie-albums for the time being, so I wouldn't call it a flop yet. It may sell slow for now but there is a lot more coming from it...

I imagine Candy appealed only outside his fanbase, that's why people bought the single instead of the album = huge single sales + bad album sales. Different may ballance the scales there, it should start getting heavy airplay by next week.

I think he will end up higher than no10 this week (no7 or so) and possibly stay around there for the next week as well. I have a feeling that most of this weeks top 10 will be hugely froantloaded (for example 1D are currently droping from 150k to 50k!) and will make way for new entries next week. But then it is time for the Xmas albums as well... Regardless how bad the rest will do Robbie's sales need to pick up during the next weeks with different and the live shows. Candy is still very high in both tv- and airplay which may delay any impact 'Different' would have for the sales of TTC.

Candy is actually about to get another top10 week and should easily become the best seller of Robbie's recent career. It has already sold more than 300k... a bit funny isn't it? Candy may sell a 450k+ total during the TTC era. laugh.gif Bodies wasn't a no1, Shame wasn't a no1, even The Flood wasn't a no1... and Candy got two weeks at the top wacko.gif Strange world...

Well, third Xmas single for Robbie:
1. Somethin' Stupid (2001)
2. Do They Know It's Christmas (2004)
3. He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother (2012)

But too shame for Different (#64). That's much better song than Candy but all honors go to first single.

Should close the year with half a million sales... hopefully will stay in the top 20 for much longer than RKTVS so that it can match at least a million units sold.

Posted by: Better Man Dec 28 2012, 01:45 PM

1 million....I'm not sure.
800k is reality for TTC, not more.

#7 TTC
#7 Candy

Mids UK

p.s. But Robbie has 1 mil selling records of 2012 in UK: Candy and Take The Crown have sold approx. 500k both (incl.this week).

Emile sold well over a million I believe. Sales of the album would have been much higher if only she'd bothered to promote it sad.gif

Posted by: De Niro Jan 7 2013, 11:58 PM

It is interesting that despite Candy being a huge seller and shifting over half a million it didn't make the top 20 best sellers of the year, yet the album was the 13th best seller of 2012 despite it's sales being disappointing. Goes to show how low albums are these days.

Posted by: Jupiter9 Jan 12 2013, 05:55 PM

Yeah. It's bizarre isn't it?

Nowadays all the money is made in touring and merchandising. The actual 'records' are just a sideline as far as revenue goes.

One new fact:

Before Candy Robbie was 11th solo male artist in singles sales historical UK chart - 7.6M selling copies. George Michael was 10th and had 7.9M.
After Candy Robbie has overtaken George and has 8.2M.

Look at the common list (dated on August, 2012 excl.RW sales):

1.The Beatles
2. Elvis Presley (21.7 M)
3. Cliff Richard (21.5 M)
4. Madonna (17.8 M)
5. Michael Jackson (15.5 M)
6. Elton John (15 M)
7. Queen
8. Abba
9. Rihanna (11.4 M)
10. David Bowie (10.7 M)
11. Paul McCartney (10.3 M)
12. Kylie Minogue (10.2 M)
13. Rolling Stones (10 M)
14. Rod Stewart (9.9 M)
15. Take That
16. Stevie Wonder (9.1 M)
17. Oasis (9 млн)
18. Eminem (8.9 M)
19. Whitney Houston (8.5 M)
20. Robbie Williams (8.2 M)
21. Spice Girls (8 M)
21. George Michael (7.9 M)

1.2M by the end of 2012 so approx 1.3M by now? And we can wait for another 300k from Tour?

In my opinion 1.6M would be good result for sales only (almost) in Europe.
If he'd made promo in OZ and Latin then TTC could catch 2.0M but not this time because of new Swing album.

2. UTR Vol.1 - due to fact there were not only 10 000 signed copies but standard CD and due to download version - I think 50.000 totally is possible

His total sales in UK [w/o UTR Vol.1 & all recent Live albums (02, TTC Live, Swings Live, Paris Live)] are 19.309.265 copies by May 6 2016.

Regarding SBW:
Are you sure about 850k in UK (by Feb 2014)?
I'm not sure and current update by OCC (via Music Week) gave us the current stats: 733,959 in UK
WW sales should be 2M, I rememer the old official stats and due to good sales tendency it should be 2M (even more).
Germany...don't know.

Yeah, unfortunately the sales of TTC wasn't so good after release period but you know, it's impossible to do better if you have only one hit single.
In a case of SBW there was better promo (in my opinion) and the whole concept of swing music worked well for Rob because on 2001's album

what would you class as good sales for this coming album now all sales are so desperately low? What should he be "aiming for" in your opinion?

I thout of that either the last weeks and I tink sales around a million wouldbe very good as Rob cannot reley on streams, 500,000 will be likely and 1,5 m wuld be more thn great. But BM,you now best :-)....

Posted by: Better Man May 16 2016, 07:24 PM

Good question, ladies smile.gif

Actually I almost haven't thoughts about sales this time. It's too different period is sales range even comparing to last year.

WW sales depends on his campaign. If he is going to South America and to USA (check the Sony's CEO interview) markets and will do it great it helps to the album a lot.
Agree that 1M WW sales would be fine for campaign.
UK sales...well, 250-300k by Jan-1 2017 would be fantastic for Rob, but more likely 150k is maximum.
)
Anyway we all know he needs at least one BIG single at the album. If there will be two big songs than he will take the crown and sales longevity =)

UPDATE:

I'm sure he and Sony will be aiming for Number 1 Album, that's the first priority for the campaign.
The second task is good sales and success of the first single in UK and Europe at least.
Third task is longevity (don't say about great sales).
Fourth task is success on one the new/re-new markets (in radio charts): Western Europe/Asia/USA/S.America
Fifth task is stadium tour in UK and Germany at least.

If Robbie's album will reach all of these tasks we can call this campaign as very successful.

I think that's a very important album for Robbie.
I'm sure he and Sony will make all the best for getting success. I think we will get a few interesting collaborations in near future (not at the album) for rising of his status.

I think the single could be tricky. He's going to have to pull something out of the bag to compete with the youngsters - at least in the UK. It may be easier for him in Europe.

Album wise - I think you could be right about the sales. We'll see. It is an important album for him but he seems to be taking his time, getting it right. Guy's on board who will take a lot of care over it. Robbie's enthused, Sony are excited. He looks amazing. He's put a lot of work into the album and his appearance. It all points towards creativity and success and hunger for that success.

Also I think we're in for a big tour. He's been building up that fan base for the last two years especially in eastern Europe. He's off to Georgia in two weeks - sold out by all accounts. He's going about it all the right way and I think it will reap dividends for him. smile.gif

I think whatever happens with the album, no one can accuse him of not trying or being nonchalant about his place in music. He's fighting for his place and I like that. cheer.gif

About Swings Both Ways sales from the new interview to The Guardian:

QUOTE
“I suppose I’ve just got to redefine success,” he says. “I’ve yet to shape it and whittle it and to convince myself that everything’s all right. You know, my last album would have been the peak of anyone’s career: double platinum, No 1, holding off One Direction for the Christmas week No 1, sold 2.3m. In this day and age, that’s a staggering success. But against my own success, there’s a light shining on it going: ‘He’s not selling 5m or 6m copies any more.’ I do realise that I’m in a place now where I’m not imperial. It’s not over by a long chalk, but I’m not imperial. When you’re imperial, it’s sort of like stepping up to a pool table and knowing you’re just not going to miss. Whatever you release, you’re not going to miss.”

It's part of what drives them , is there a price to pay though with all that madness surrounding them , must be hard to let go of all that Euphoria .

Robbie can have a career as long as he wants to but some day it will be in a difference shape & form but for the time being it's hectic tongue.gif

After reissue Greatest Hits sales in UK are very close to the following 'best of' albums:

Robbie - 2.341M
Michael Jackson (Number Ones) - 2.35M (on July 2016)
Take That (Never Forget) - 2.36M (on July 2016)

I think in 2 weeks he will catch MJ and maybe then overtake TT as well but until the new TT release.
In a long-long-run it's also possible to overtake George Michael (2.48M) but no chance to catch ABBA, in my opinion. And that's fine: ABBA, Queen, The Beatles, Bob Marley should be stay in another league,

Anyway historical Best Of Top-10 is coming for Rob.

Better Man?

I see everywhere now they're quoting RW global album sales as 70m. Does that sound correct to you?

I know he was stuck on 63m for ages back in the RKTVS days and we've had three albums since then. Could he have sold an additional seven million world wide?

Fab if he has. cool.gif

I like it too happy.gif but it's still not as good as Under The Radar. I put that back in my car CD player this week for the first time since HES was released and I prefer it. That album is dance.gif I can hear that HES is a natural successor to it.

I agree Laura. UTR was the best album for a long time with many hit singles. I think that his self doubt had stopped him to realese it. He wouldnot have needed the help of Ed Sheeran to drop names. He is great for himself and his generation But Robbie should stay to be Robbie

Posted by: Sydney11 Jan 17 2017, 06:30 AM

Does he have the overall say when it comes to what songs appear on his albums . I would think the record label would have big input

He has always done well in the album charts , the singles not so good , is it song choice or is he considered old hat these days

Well the success of LML has proved he can still have a hit single. Maybe not a number one anymore. I agree with Elisabeth. Knowing there is an Ed Sheeran co write on an album doesn't make one jot of difference to me.
I skip Pretty Woman anyway. I'm there to listen to Robbie's lyrics not Ed Sheeran's. smile.gif More confidence is needed but that's RW he won't ever truly believe in himself. It's part of what makes him so gorgeous. wub.gif

Posted by: Sydney11 Jan 18 2017, 06:31 AM

I guess using the likes of Ed Sheeran etc opens him up to people who would not necessarily listen to Robbies music & would just check the album out because of the Ed Sheeran or other artist connection, must like we do when Robbie is featured on another artist album

It's part of Robbie's make up not to be confident, he always worries that his work is not good enough . Foe one thing I think he can be one of the best lyricists out there when he puts his mind to it & you cannot have a song without lyrics

I like Robbie when he is serious about his work , sometimes he messes about too much when being interviewed & you never get to hear what is behind the lyrics of a song, he has got better in recent years mind you

Agree smile.gif

I understand why he does it but he should have the confidence to treat his work seriously without worrying whether Critics will too. happy.gif

Sometimes if we're lucky he'll do a serious interview but it is always somewhere other than in Britain. He never does a serious interview in the UK unfortunately.

It's such a shame that RKTVS broke his record. It was only by 1700 copies if I remember rightly too. sleep.gif

Didn't he loose out against JLS? The group that does not exist anymore some years later, while he is still there?

JLS are no more Elisabeth, they are all doing their own thing these days , maybe a solo artist has a better chance of longevity . Robbie is very good at what he does & continually builds shows around himself & gives his fans what they want & knows how to entertain an audience . I do know that many what you would call casual Robbie fans went to see Robbie in Dublin this year & thoroughly enjoyed his concert. Robbie works hard at what he does, he is always writing songs , gets his albums out there & still charts very well which must be hard against all those younger folk . HES got to number 1 , he has his fanbase & hangs on to it & we all support him

Posted by: Laura130262 Sep 13 2017, 11:13 PM

He does work very hard at what he does. He works hard to make it look easy.

That's why it annoys me if people dismiss him as lucky.

If you don't like his music, his persona, fair enough. We all have different tastes - but don't say it's down to luck. Not after 27 years.
