| Latino superstar Shakira flew in to London on a special mission to meet Gordon Brown, chancellor of the exchequer and the man due to take over from Tony Blair as prime minister. The couple spent half an hour animatedly discussing and agreing on humanitarian issues affectin Latin America. The Colombian singer and UNICEF goodwill ambassador started her own charity for impoverished children called Pies Descalzos, which translates as 'Shoeless children', more than ten years ago. When named in 2003 she was the youngest ever UNICEF Goodwill ambassador. As a parting gift Gordon Brown wrote a dedicated inscription inside Nelson Mandela's autobiography. |
