Pretty sure nobody saw this coming...

He will stay England coach but leave his role as pundit on Sky Sports. What will happen to brother Phil? Who will Sky Sports choose to replace their best pundit? Do you think Gary will impress as Head Coach?

If anything, I'm amazed Sky Sports News' infamous 'Breaking News' yellow banner has delivered for once! laugh.gif

There was speculation yesterday that Phil would get the job. From what I've read, he will still be part of the set-up there.

It's an interesting appointment. At least Gary Neville is one of the few English ex-players who probably has the capability of learning some Spanish.

I knew I should have put a bet on him becoming the next England coach. If Valencia make the top four I can see him taking over from Hodgson next summer. Strange to think that earlier in the week there were rumours about him joining a team in the Championship, it's quite a step up! If he can earn the respect of the players and the fans early I'd imagine he'll do well. Clearly very tactically astute defensively and knows what defenders don't like facing going forward as well.

Not really that much of a surprise though is it if you dig deeper. The guy that owns Valencia, also part owns Salford.

As for it, well it's a massive job for someone with no experience. Imagine if a German football pundit took on the Newcastle job? Lol. Good luck to him, he always comes across as knowing the game well tactically but not sure how that will translate on the field.

Sky Sports will probably replace him with Henry/Lampard for the short term on MNF.

Quite a big role indeed for your first role as manager isn't it for Gary Neville. We'll see how he does.

This, of course, means that Friday's Cup tie between Salford and Hartlepool is no longer the Sky Sports derby.

Carra on Twitter took the piss out of him saying - this was the same way I felt when Peggy Aphexhead left Liverpool for Coventry laugh.gif

Sacked today...

Bit of a chastening experience for him really. Wonder if he'll return to management or stick to the punditry?

He should stick to punditry for the time being.
