Who has one of these?!

I have the Echo Plus and I LOVE it. Got it for Christmas.

Anyone seen the new Alexa advert where Cardi B replaces Alexa’s voice? It’s hilarious

Well Alexa is a smart assistant of Amazon speaker Echo, just like Siri of iPhone. It can help you with loads of stuff, not just playing music but also check the weather, the latest news, even order food for you! I just can't get enough of it dance.gif I talk to Alexa sometimes, more fun than to Siri you know...she's smarter. However, my friend keeps bragging about his Google Home and says it's even better than Alexa. I don't know, I think Alexa and Google Home is comparable and can substitute for each other because they basically perform the same functions. Right?

How do they play music? As in, are they limited to only accessing say YouTube or Spotify? Or could you link it up with your iTunes library or even SoundCloud? I’m sort of interested in one of these but unless it’s function can actually access multiple things I don’t see the point

I use Spotify... just ask it and it will play it.

You can use Bluetooth if you want to stream it through soundcloud or youtube

I've managed so far without one and I think I'll continue to mange without one - complete gimmick IMO.

Ha agreed! It goes to show how lazy we have become as a society. Eventually, we will have robots that will wipe our butts for us because it becomes too inconvenient and strenuous.

It’s an incredibly handy device which is far more than a ‘gimmick’.

Yeah exactly, just because you don't want one doesn't mean it's a gimmick laugh.gif We use it like if we're cooking or cleaning etc or otherwise have our hands full, like if I'm in the middle of writing an essay and want to change the song I can carry on and just say it, or if I need to quickly Google check something. Not like I use it 24/7 but it's handy to have and for the Dot is very cheap for the use it has.

We've got Alexa but all we really use it for is playing music and asking it questions which are actually song lines and hoping for an interesting response tongue.gif

Exactly! All I see in it is how it's symbolic of how modern day society has evolved into such lazy couch potatoes.

Obvious gimmick is obvious. Save the money and get a JBL speaker instead

Alexa seems very relevant right now with the current UK #1 single, but do you own one?

I’ll admit I got my first echo dot this year in the Black Friday deals, it’s the latest model and it’s good to have, but I’ve never asked it to play Ellie Goulding though.

It took me a while to bother using it, but getting it on sale you can't wrong tbh! It's great just for asking her silly throwaway things you otherwise might get your phone to google, I like it for when I'm washing up or in the bath or something and you can just tell her to change the song without stopping what you're doing laugh.gif
