BJSC LV: Jayrusalem achieve a Top 10 result in their debut contest
After a wonderfully hosted final courtesy of Skall, it was revealed that Jayrusalem's first ever entry - Sharon Doorson's 'Killer' - finished in 9th place, with 121 points. Additionally, 'Killer' came first in the Group 1 Semi Final, with 114 points!
We are thrilled with these results, and very thankful to the countries who voted for Sharon Doorson throughout this contest.
Many congratulations to Caerfyrddia, who won BJSC LV with the wonderful 'Bring It Back' by Marcel Woods feat. Vanbot.

Poor Daehun, it was all lies!
Yehesi coming 18th in your rating?! That's 0 points from me next contest
We shall see!
By the way, I actually really liked your entry. Semi Final 1 was such high quality; I enjoyed near enough every song. Was tough to do the ranking. I considered Botanikka's song in 20th to be 7 out of 10, while 10th position Bignia-Zaragovina scored 8 out of 10. That's how close it was.
Oh dear, I was only joking Jay so my previous comment isn't a serious one.

BJSC LVI: Kay fails for Jay!
It wasn't second time lucky for Jayrusalem, whose second entry 'Next To You' by Kay fails to qualify. Kay finished in 20th position in the Group 1 Semi Final, attracting 38 points from 8 countries. Thanks to those who showed us support, and congratulations to those who progressed into the Final!

You're song should've made the final, it was good enough to be there and then flop in last place but that aside
Jay, I don't think you are allowed to reveal your semi final votes unless the country DNQed. You have to wait until the final results and then you can reveal your semi votes I think.
Thank you for the heads up Yu - edited it out now. Sorry about that!
Cheers Tim!

P.S. Don't call it a comeback, this might only be a temporary return.
lovely entry. prefer the Mr. Belt & Wezol remix of it but this could be getting som points form me
Thanks Thermo! I was really torn between which remix to send actually. I decided to opt for this version in the end; I prefer the summery vibe of this one... I guess it's better to follow your gut instinct? Maybe that will be my downfall!

After a string of FLOP entries, we have turned it all around this month by achieving our biggest success to date! Our 7th entry 'How You Love Me' by 3LAU proves to be lucky number seven by placing within the Top 5 of its semi & in the final, at #4 and #5 respectively. Jayrusalem would like to thank all of the countries who supported us this month.
Also, thanks to:
Hendinia for recommending the song to me (a recipe for success, clearly! *.* )
Bellamia/Aeroche for a wonderful time co-hosting with them.
Finally, a big congratulations to Persephonia for winning the contest. We look forward to your imminent hosted contest!

Jayrusalem returns after a six month absence from the BuzzJack Song Contest. We make our comeback with 'Somebody' by Natalie La Rose featuring Jeremih. This R&B/Pop song contains an interpolation of Whitney Houston's 1987 hit 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)'.

Glad you like it! Good luck to you too, I really enjoyed your entry (I really need to check out the rest of Troye's EP!)
Jayrusalem are very pleased to have qualified for the fourth time with 'Somebody'! Thank you to the countries who've supported our entry so far, and we hope you continue to do so as we enter the finals.

Jayrusalem's entry for BJSC 73 is Lion Babe - 'Treat Me Like Fire'!
¤ Lion Babe are a New York based duo comprising of singer Jillian Hervey & producer Lucas Goodman. ¤ 'Treat Me Like Fire' is an R'n'B/Soul song which originally dates back to 2012, and was later included on the 'https://open.spotify.com/album/3vwDIj8DVYqAkCspoKHMOr' (2014). ¤ 'Treat Me Like Fire' has recently been given a new lease of life, with a re-shot video premičring earlier this year. The new visual is simplistic yet stunning, perfectly complementing the song's relaxed vibe. ¤ The song has gained support in the UK thanks to Radio 1 including the song in their 'In New Music We Trust' list (9th February). ¤
Due to the age of this track & its recent exposure, we are aware that a few of the competing countries may have heard this before now. Whether it's an old favourite, a newer discovery or a first time listen due to this contest, we hope you all enjoy 'Treat Me Like Fire'!
Good luck to you all, and we hope that Hushkanukia has a fun experience hosting this month's contest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-VET23C-9A
I have absolutely loce this, it's really stunning. Best of luck and I'm sure you'll get fair points from us this time unlike Somebody which received none which is #2 in our chart
Yet another fabulous entry Jay, this must qualify! Could see it being another top 10 for you tbh Jayrusalem are fast becoming one of my favourite countries.
Thank you Josh, glad you love the song! I look forward to hearing your entry this month.
High praise from Bellamia. Let's hope we continue the "Jayrusalem enters, therefore Bellamia qualify" thing.
Pretty certain this is going to be another BIG hit for you, could even be a winner??? I say having heard less than half of the songs so far
Thanks Bra! *.* Not sure about winning(!), but I hope this qualifies - it's my favourite entry to date!
Lion Babe qualified, which makes it the first time that Jayrusalem have qualified for two contests in a row! Our three most recent entries have all qualified, but the first of those (3LAU) occurred back in August 2014.
Our run since we debuted in BJSC 55:
09-DNQ-DNQ-DNQ-31-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-DNQ-05-xx-xx-xx-xx-05-Q
Q = qualified, final position not yet known
DNQ = did not qualify
xx = didn't take part
~
After a good start with my debut entry, I became a little despondent about the contest after 3 DNQ's in a row and then coming second last when I finally managed to qualify again! That's why I took such a long break before I decided to give it another shot (and came back with a DNQ in the dreaded position of 16th in the semi final, when only 15 qualified). When 3LAU came 5th I felt like I was unlikely to ever top that, so had another break to savour that moment. Nice to be on a bit of a roll at the moment anyway, and I finally have more qualifiers than dnq's!
Thanks very much to the countries who provided points towards 'Treat Me Like Fire' (all 24 of you!). It received 140 points in all, enough to end in 8th place in the final. Jayrusalem are thrilled to have another Top 10 result to their name!
Congratulations to Daehun for another win, with the wonderful 'Raindrops' by SNBRN featuring Kerli. Jayrusalem provided 10 points towards their entry. We look forward to you hosting LXXIV! Our 12 points went to the runner up, 'Air It All Out' [7th Heaven Remix] - Paulini, entered by FARC. This song has become our favourite entry throughout all the contests we've taken part in.
BSJC 73 Stats will be posted here once all the information is available.
09-DNQ-DNQ-DNQ-31-[Missed 6 Contests]-DNQ-05-[Missed 4 Contests]-05-08
Well done Jay, but I was hoping you would be a bit higher, if not win!
Aww thanks April! Personally I didn't think I'd win, even though the odds were quite favourable - I was just keeping my fingers crossed for Top 10.
I'm looking forward to your involvement in the next contest!
Was fantastic Jay! Your last 2 entries were on point!
Thanks Cameron! I really enjoyed your entry too, I wish I could have given it more points than just 1. I found it so hard to order my final 10!
Also just want to say again that you were an excellent host! I can only imagine how demanding it is to work out the points for two semis, the final and host the results of both, as well as setting up all the relevant threads. I say this because it was a particularly large contest, so that would have provided extra work!
~
It has emerged that Lion Babe only came 16th in Semi Final 2! This came as quite a surprise, not for cocky reasons(!) but because I wouldn't have assumed before now that a Top 10 final song would have done relatively a lot worse in the semi stages. In light of this position, I'm extra pleased to have even made it into the Top 10 of the final at all.
'Treat Me Like Fire' really made it into the final by the skin of its teeth as well - usually only 15 songs qualify rather than 16, and Jayrusalem were only one point ahead of Séyetana's entry in 17th place.
Still really loving this entry, definitely one of my favourites from BJSC recently. Erykah vibes a plenty.
Really glad you love it! I'll have to check out your entry; I didn't hear everything from SF1 unfortunately.
BJSC 73 - Stats [Lion Babe - 'Treat Me Like Fire']
Jayrusalem's 10th entry is 'Run' by http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6516472/coin-video-premiere-run, an all-male quartet from Nashville. Don't be expecting a country song though! 'Run' is best described as being an indie-pop/synth-pop song. Jayrusalem entering a song with indie leanings & male vocals? While this may seem like an uncharacteristic entry for us, we have actually been reasonably diverse thus far, having entered pop, electropop, dance, trance, deep house, r'n'b and soul into BJSC prior to now. Now we can add indie-pop to that list of genres!
We're not sure how our entry will fare, considering that it's far removed from the songs we've had success with, but we hope there will be some love out there for 'Run'.
Good luck to the other 65 countries competing in the semi finals!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpvUoCL001Q
Thanks to the countries who showed us their support this month! COIN becomes our 6th song to qualify out of 10 entries. Still haven't got high expectations for this, but just glad to be a part of the final.
bra just brought this to my attention:
COIN came 40th (out of 42 songs) in the final. Obviously not a great result, but nevertheless I'm grateful to have at least qualified. Also I was particularly keen not to come 41st or 42nd, so I guess that's something?
This is probably the first and last time I'll be sending a song of that nature though... I'd say it was a gamble that didn't really pay off.
Anyway, thank you very much to the following countries that gave some of their points to COIN in the semi final and/or final, it's greatly appreciated!
Aeroche | Altyr Muunilinst | Aquafina | Daehun | Desbuanda | FARC | Florina | Flynnonda | Hendinia | Hushkanukia | Land of DW | N-Lazone | Persephonia | π | Ramrynia | Sangria | Séyetana | Singerpurear | Taahino | Tartford | Terra di Campioni | Ultraviolenceland | Unovia | Vülkyria
More support than I assumed, actually!
Congratulations to Persephonia who've won for a 2nd time!
Until next time, whenever that may be...
BJSC 74 - Stats [COIN - 'Run']
The next time is BJSC LXXV
Congrats on not being bottom 2
I understand you being racist to our hosted contests and wish you a good vacation again ~
i don't know how this did so badly...
Lew. A few people said they "didn't get it" for whatever reason, which is fair enough. I thought it was leaning more towards pop with its hooks so might have some appeal there, as well as the indie nature to it. Maybe not a BJSC friendly package of a song/video/band/vibe overall. I'm really pleased that you liked it enough to give some points towards it!
On a different note, do you think a music video can impact on votes for particular songs, positively or negatively? I really think it should be all about the song when it comes down to it, not about the visuals that happen to accompany it. However I'd be lying if I said that the video didn't have at least some impact on my liking for Bré's entry though. Maybe I wouldn't necessarily have "got it" so instantaneously, otherwise? I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong because I really liked the song all by itself prior to voting for it, but I do wonder if I'd have been more dismissive of it initially without finding the video appealing during my first listen of it.
I mention the video thing because I did get a couple of comments from people not liking COIN's music video. Not sure if entirely serious or not, mind you...! There was also a few who thought the boy in the music video for my 3LAU entry was hot, did that gain the song some votes?
I often tend to send songs that have a good music video with them (see: all of my last 3 entries) because they stand out to me more when I'm looking for songs to send. So certainly for me, yes music videos can be a positive influence (and I am sure 'Habib Galbi' probably would have done less well without the video). I don't think that's a bad thing though, if a music video happens to make you enjoy a song more that doesn't make your enjoyment of the song invalid. It is a song contest yes, but Eurovision is as well (and that is what BJSC is based on!!1!) and I'm sure there are plenty of examples of songs which connect more with the audience due to their staging/presentation etc. (e.g. 'Hard Rock Hallelujah'). I'd never vote for a song based purely on the video and I am sure no one else would either.let's not bring Orphic Oxtra into this tho
I wouldn't have thought a music video would ever be a negative influence but maybe ~ I liked the video for 'Run' anyway
Die
I corrected that within ONE MINUTE of posting
i admit i gave 4 points to ramrynia because it had a kewl video. but i only had 11 songs i voted to vote for. either that or i'd have randomly picked out another song i didn't mind and voted for it.
I'm glad you caught a Bré typo, Pavel. They are a rarity!
~
Good points raised, and it's certainly true that the Eurovision isn't purely down to the song alone either, so in light of that I suppose it's not actually a negative thing if a video enhances the enjoyment of the song.
P.S. Poor COIN.
I was VERY appreciative of those points, Yu!
Hey Yu look at this again:
pretty little liars getting that relevance
I know him from 'Faking It'.

Jayrusalem's final positions so far have been (in number order): 5th [3LAU], 5th [Natalie La Rose], 8th [Lion Babe], 9th [Sharon Doorson], 31st [Joel Compass] and 40th [COIN].
!! Keeping your cards close to your chest
Good luck with your entry! Just noticed we're one after the other in the final running order.
Adam Rickfors featuring Marylin - 'Heartbeats'
Final: 18th (out of 41 songs)
I'm very pleased with this result, because I'd assumed this might miss the Top 30 songs! 'Heartbeats' returns Jayrusalem to being within the Top 20 results, after finishing at a mere 40th place last month (with COIN - 'Run').
Thanks as always goes to the countries who provided my entry with points across the semi finals and finals.
As ever I'm undecided whether to enter next month or not (whether I feel I have the time to dedicate myself to it~), but I have to say the desire to take part in a Kylienips hosted contest is pretty strong! *.*

Bonnie Anderson - 'Unbroken'
After taking a break for one contest (sorry Kylienips x) Jayrusalem make their return!
Our entry this month is the anthemic pop ballad 'Unbroken' by Australian singer Bonnie Anderson, recommended to us by this month's host Aquafina.
Bonnie says of the song: "We all feel a little broken at times. Life is hard and it can throw hurdles in your way. 'Unbroken' comes from feeling confused [and] lost, personally and as an artist. Everyone has darker moments."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rig4nZZ2sbU
We hope you enjoy our entry this month - good luck in the semi finals, everyone!
Rubbish xx
It's basically an Australian "Fight Song" tho (i.e. really good)
Sucks we're not in the same semi! "Blackout" is an absolute JAM and "Rodeo" was pretty decent.
Hopefully we'll be meeting each other in the final, Cody! *.* I'm glad you like the song. I'll endeavour to check yours out!
~
Joseph I see you lurking ny2
Thanks to those of you who helped Jayrusalem qualify for the 8th time!
Bonnie Anderson takes 5th place for Jayrusalem! This is our joint highest placing... we've been 5th three times now. Previous #5 smashes: 3LAU - 'How You Love Me' and Queen Natalie La Rose of Jayrusalem - 'Somebody'.
'Unbroken' seemed to surpass expectations, given that only three countries predicted we'd come Top 10!
We would like to thank all the countries that supported us throughout the Semi Finals & the Final, particularly Farahtyn, Harmonica & Unovia for giving Jayrusalem your 18 points in the final!
Jayrusalem may not be taking part in the September contest (but we shall see)!
Excited for your comeback
Looking forward to what you send in the end Jay
Excited for your comeback [2]

MYZICA
'Wait Just A Minute' [Makeup and Vanity Set Remix]
Jayrusalem return to BJSC with our 6th entry of 2015 - 'Wait Just A Minute' by MYZICA (remixed by Makeup and Vanity Set). The question is, will it be our 6th qualifier of the year?
MYZICA are a male/female duo (Isaaca Byrd + Micah Tawlks) from Nashville, Tennessee. Their debut https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/myzica-ep/id996646760 includes the 'Wait Just A Minute' remix, the original pop version and three other tracks.

Jayrusalem are included in Semi Final 1. We hope you enjoy our entry this month! Please feel free to provide feedback~.
Good luck everyone!
Yet another fantastic entry from Jayrusalem *.*
Why thank you! *.* (I'll pay you later )
MYZICA qualified, making it Jayrusalem's 9th final out of 13 entries. To whoever has supported the song so far - thank you! Good luck in the final, everyone. ^.^
this is *gorgeous* i'm glad it's got u through a hard time just now and i hope ur doing well <3
Final result: 13th! Not bad at all! That makes it Jayrusalem's sixth most successful entry.
Thank you to the following countries for giving Jayrusalem points in the final: Mulgracia, Florina (<-- 18s ), Deandria, Joedonia, Quintessa, Aeroche, Vülkyria, Ethanola, Trifoski, Utopia, Summerica, Hendinia, St. Burbia, Pupok, N DNTN, Oslol, Hushkanukia, Botanikka, Terra Avium, Harmonica and The Actual Republic of Bellamia - I really appreciate it. I'm very glad you all liked 'Wait Just A Minute'! Also, thanks to anyone who may have voted for it in the semi, but not the final.
November contest... Jayrusalem will most likely be taking part! Watch this space.
Well done Mulgracia + Jadakissnia for a fabulously hosted contest (and thanks for giving us your 18, James!!) and also congrats to Aeroche for winning with a wonderful song (and thank you again for your kind words ).

Liz Longley
'Rescue My Heart'
I was toying with the idea of sending this song prior to now, but I eventually decided to save it for the last contest of the year. 'Rescue My Heart' is an understated ballad, with haunting & atmospheric sounding vocals/production. Somehow I think it sounds really well suited to this time of year, when the days get shorter & colder. I absolutely love it.
'Rescue My Heart' serves as Jayrusalem's 14th entry overall, and 7th entry of 2015.
Listen here:
Jayrusalem is in Semi Final 2 this month, only the 4th occasion that this has happened! The previous three SF2 inclusions resulted in qualifying, so here's hoping that continues.
Good luck to everyone taking part!
Liz Longley has made it to the Final! I'm thrilled because this means that all of my 2015 entries managed to qualify (7 entries; I didn't take part in January, July & September). It's also my 10th qualifier overall out of 14 entries.
Thank you to those of you who gave points to 'Rescue My Heart'! I don't have much of an idea who likes it, but I'm very grateful for the support. <3 I hope these mystery countries continue to like it in the context of the Final...
Good luck to all of the finalists! Also thank you Leww for a wonderfully hosted contest so far; the semi final results were beautifully presented!
V nice! 💕
37th out of 41 songs for Liz Longley's 'Rescue My Heart'. I can't be too despondent because it's always great to qualify & be a part of the final! Jayrusalem managed 7 qualifiers out of 7 entries this year, which is by far the best showing for my country. Thank you very much to all the nations who supported Jayrusalem throughout the year.
Jayrusalem results in 2015:
xx-05-08-40-18-xx-05-xx-13-37
(xx = did not take part)
Jayrusalem have had a fantastic year for me! I think we've pointed 5 of those 7 entries and MYZICA is definitely one of my favourites of the year.
This was good, though I'm not happy u beat me in BJSC 80

this deserved so much better #istandwithliz
BJSC 2015: Personal Review
Hello from Jayrusalem! Firstly, what a great year it's been for BJSC! Being exposed to so much new music and discovering a few gems along the way is the most enjoyable element of the process, for me. I do enjoy the competitive nature of BJSC (and sometimes I get far too invested in it ) but ultimately it boils down to the quality of the songs.
At some point in time (hopefully later this month), I will go back over the 7 contests I took part in and attempt to come up with an End of Year ranking (not including my own songs).
For now though, I'll focus on my own entries and how Jayrusalem fared overall. I'm very happy that I can say I qualified with all 7 of my entries! It's always a nice feeling to make it to the Final, however I end up doing! My best result this year was 5th, achieved twice (Bonnie Anderson - Unbroken & Natalie La Rose - Somebody).

Queen Natalie La Rose of Jayrusalem did me proud by coming 5th back in February. ' Somebody' obviously ended up being a big hit in the charts worldwide, particularly here in the UK where it reached #2. I stumbled upon it prior to it charting anywhere, and I will hold onto that!! #notcheap. It also did extremely well in my personal chart, peaking at #1 and spending 20 consecutive weeks in my Top 10 (25 in the Top 40). It is currently third in my year-to-date chart. It's such a bop, and I'd consider it to be my favourite song that I've sent so far. *.*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-VET23C-9A
'Treat Me Like Fire' by Lion Babe dates back to 2012, but it received a new music video in January 2015 and I discovered it via YouTube recommendations. It's such a beautifully soulful track with striking vocals from Jillian Hervey; it was completely instant upon my first listen and I just knew I had to send it. I received excellent odds for this song, but despite this vote of confidence it was actually very lucky to qualify at all. It placed 16th in its semi, and only the month before the qualifying range was 15 songs, but was extended to 16 in this month. Also, it was only ahead of the 17th placed song by just 1 point. Seemingly I was in the wrong semi, because its performance in the final was a completely different story - it came 8th. That turnaround was enough for it to receive the distinction of being the song with the "Biggest improvement in result from semi final to final" across the first 73 contests. Woo! ;o
https://soundcloud.com/myzica/wait-just-a-minute-makeup
'Wait Just a Minute' is a very special song to me; it helped me get through a difficult time recently. I discovered MYZICA quite randomly - via an episode of Scream the TV series! It wasn't even prominently used, it was just used as background music during an scene in a coffee shop, but it stood out to me. More accurately, that was the original version of the song being used. While looking into it online, I came across the Makeup and Vanity Set Remix of it. The original is quite a cheerful sounding pop song, but the remix is somewhat more alternative and, imo, rather beautiful. I followed my heart and went with the remix version. It had quite a divisive response, so I wasn't too confident about how it would perform - I was hoping for Top 30 at least. It exceeded my own expectations when it placed 13th!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rig4nZZ2sbU
As far as I'm aware, 'Unbroken' is not only my most successful entry of the year, but also my most successful entry to date! (Thank you to Lee for bringing this song to my attention!). Just like 3LAU & Natalie La Rose, it placed 5th, which remains my peak to date. It's a powerful sounding ballad, with great vocals by Australian singer Bonnie Anderson... I'm pleased that it did so well!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J78HcPJwl1M
Liz Longley's 'Rescue My Heart' didn't do particularly well in the most recent contest - it came 18th in its semi, and then 37th out of 41 songs in its final. Sadly it is my least successful song of the year! I have absolutely no regrets sending it though... I think it's a stunning song, and I'm just glad that a few other people seemed to enjoy it, at least, even if it was generally met with indifference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tekBe4QNM8
My only "Dance moment" this year was provided courtesy of Adam Rickfors, with 'Heartbeats' - which was recommended to me by Yu. ;o #Jayhun. It placed 18th back in May! Random: The artwork weirds me out a bit~
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpvUoCL001Q
Finally... I have to admit, the main reason I sent 'Run' was in an attempt to change things up a bit and see if it appealed to the Indie leaning voters of BJSC (even though as a song it is still quite pop leaning in a sense). Ultimately it seemed to have a rather niche appeal, and came 40th out of 42 songs in its final, therefore sending COIN didn't exactly pay off (geddit?! ).
--------------------
Thanks to everyone who gave these songs points, whether it was a top score or even just 1 point! I've said it a lot of times but I'll say it again - I really appreciate all the support.
And you know just what I wanna do
I wanna vote for somebody
I wanna give points to somebody
And we ain't gonna tell nobody
We ain't gonna tell nobody (nobody)
idk
WAIT MYZICA WAS IN SCREAM HOW DID I MISS THAT
! (If I've read Bré's table right, you gave us 20 points and we gave you 6 points. I therefore feel very stingy. x 'Ghosts' though! *.* )
The usage of MYZICA was in a rather nondescript moment, it was in a scene when Emma & Piper were talking in the coffee shop I think! (Edit: S01E04! Emma arrives at The Grindhouse, there Piper tells her that she's finished her assignment and is ready to leave town, so Emma gives her information to convince her she should stay.)
Tbh I'd rank your entries as so:
1.) Somebody
2.) Unbroken
3.) Heartbeats
4.) Treat Me Like Fire
5.) Wait Just A Minute
6.) Rescue My Heart
7.) Run
Coin, Lion Babe, Natalie all amazing

Keke Palmer
'I Don't Belong To You'
Keke Palmer is a singer, songwriter, actress & TV personality from America. I think a fair few of you will recognise her as Zayday Williams from Scream Queens!
'I Don't Belong To You' is sensual/laid-back r&b slow jam. The sultry video compliments the song perfectly, and ends with a twist. Hi Cassie! The lyrics are empowering & upfront. Keke explained the song's meaning in a recent interview:
"I don’t belong to anyone else but myself. I have to make my own decisions. Happiness is defined by me. My sexuality is defined by me. And that can change and this can change and I can make it what I want to make it because I’m the one who makes that choice. So that’s what ‘I Don’t Belong to You’ is saying. This song feels right. It feels right and it’s telling who I am. And it captures my identity."
Listen here:
You'll find Jayrusalem in Semi Final 1. Good luck everyone! Happy listening~.
I was considering this as well
I'm glad you chose it, it's such a good song!
Ooh it's not often that someone else considers something I end up sending! I'm glad you like it! *.*
Yes Jay, slaying me once again
I was aware that she had something out, but I had never heard it until now! I'm actually really impressed with this!
This is Keke palmer of 'namechecked by Jenna Rose in the song My Jeans' fame I presume?
In a sea of sultry R&B female songs this month, this really stands out in a good way I think! Yet another amazing Jay entry
Achieved my biggest flop this month! Kay is no longer the flop Queen of my BJSC history... it's now Keke Palmer! It's my first ever entry to not make the Top 20 of a Semi-Final.
Thank you very much to the 4 of you who gave points to 'I Don't Belong To You', particularly UV for a very unexpected & highly appreciated 12 points.
To be honest I did feel like it was a risky choice (I didn't want to put the kibosh on it by mentioning this above) and evidently it didn't connect with enough people. It's time for me to consider where Jayrusalem goes from here!
I did think this was gonna struggle to get through unforch! Female R&B often does :'( Only just missed out on a point from me.
You should write the missive to end all missives

Love this. I hope it's in the final!
Boo~
@ Bellamia, Hendinia & Medhelnia for giving us some points, and thanks to those of you who offered their condolences in the results thread.
Of course I'm not happy to be adding a "last in the semi" disaster to my history, especially as it was my first entry in over a year. To be somewhat philosophical about it, it has to happen to two countries each month, and this happens to be my occasion to experience that dubious honour. I'll try and not be discouraged from entering again at some point in the future, but for the time being I'll be bowing out again.
P.S. Sam & Lindsey, you've been doing great work this contest, thanks for being great hosts!
Excited for your comeback
(You broke the meme by announcing this before me making this identical post in your thread this time :'( xx)
Maybe I'll snub BJSC 100, so your post can mean you're actually anticipating my participation in BJSC 101 ;o!
BJSC 100
Loop
'Maybe I'm a Liar'
Jayrusalem returns (again)! We're back to celebrate the 100th BuzzJack Song Contest.
Our entry is 'Maybe I'm a Liar', an electro-pop song by the London based singer-songwriter Loop. It's produced by Xenomania's Toby Scott, who is responsible for writing/producing some massive pop songs from the likes of Girls Aloud and The Saturdays.
Loop: "Maybe I'm a Liar is about that one boy you always say you're done with, but always end up going back to - and the stick you get from your friends about it! I think it's pretty relatable cos most of us girls have got into this cycle with certain kinds of guys!"
(Given that I'm such a huge lover of pop music, it's probably surprising that very few of the Jayrusalem entries are pure pop songs - so I'm happy to have found one to send for this celebratory contest!)
Listen here:
We hope you enjoy our entry. Good luck to all the participating countries!
Excited for your comeback
Revived a classic meme gah!

The Perfect Kiss
'Indebted to You'
I last participated in BJSC back in October 2017. I hadn't anticipated on ever returning, but I guess you can never say never! Rob suggested that I should take part, and I figured it would give me something fun to do during lockdown.
I heard this song used in the background of an episode of ELITE, and it was the first song I thought of when thinking about what I should send for my comeback. The Perfect Kiss is a project led by Joe Moore (musician, producer, songwriter) with vocals by Holly Vanags - both artists are British. The Perfect Kiss is influenced by 80s synth-pop and disco.
I've no idea whether my return will be a one-time thing or if I'll be back for more beyond this contest, but let's see how it goes. My song is included in Semi Final 1!
In the Semi Final 1 results, Jayrusalem was the last entry to be announced as having made it to the final! That was a very nice surprise. Thanks to those of you who voted and liked my entry!
The last time a final included Jayrusalem was in November 2015, the 80th contest. Granted I have only sent three other songs between that contest and this one, but still, it's been a long time! The Perfect Kiss - Indebted to You is Jayrusalem's 11th qualifying song out of 18 entries.
Jayrusalem songs that qualified, and their final positions:
[09th out of 29] LV 55 - Sharon Doorson - Killer
[31st out of 32] LIX 59 - Joel Compass - Astronaut [Ghost Loft Remix]
[05th out of 32] LXVII 67 - 3LAU featuring Bright Lights - How You Love Me
[05th out of 31] LXXII 72 - Natalie La Rose featuring Jeremih - Somebody
[08th out of 34] LXXIII 73 - Lion Babe - Treat Me Like Fire
[40th out of 42] LXXIV 74 - COIN - Run
[18th out of 41] LXXV 75 - Adam Rickfors featuring Marylin - Heartbeats
[05th out of 42] LXXVII 77 - Bonnie Anderson - Unbroken
[13th out of 42] LXXIX 79 - Myzica - Wait Just a Minute [Makeup and Vanity Set Remix]
[37th out of 41] LXXX 80 - Liz Longley - Rescue My Heart
[xxxx out of 41] CXXIII 123 - The Perfect Kiss - Indebted to You
Jayrusalem flop songs that did not qualify, and their semi-final positions:
[20th out of 24 - the top 15 qualified] LVI 56 - Kay - Next to You
[18th out of 25 - the top 15 qualified] LVII 57 - The Green Children - Kisses from the Sky
[18th out of 27 - the top 15 qualified] LVIII 58 - Tom Swoon featuring Taylr Renee - Wings [Myon & Shane 54 Summer of Love Mix]
[16th out of 28 - the top 15 qualified] LXVI 66 - Naxxos - New Orleans [Sam Feldt Remix]
[24th out of 32 - the top 20 qualified] LXXXI 81 - Keke Palmer - I Don't Belong to You
[32nd out of 32 - the top 20 qualified] XCII 92 - Coracle featuring Michael Bird - Running on Empty [Chris Howland Remix]
[29th out of 43 - the top 23 qualified] C 100 - Loop - Maybe I'm a Liar
Didn't realise it was 2015 since we last had you in the final! or that you've had so few entries in total! I am a little surprised this song has made it but I do like it and wish it luck for the final! It's a cute one.
Treat Me Like Fire, Somebody and Kisses From The Sky are all incredible entries!
I knew it had been a while but it really doesn't feel like it's been over 4 years! Glad to see you back in a final, they thought it would never happen again
I wasn’t on Buzzjack at the time but How You Love Me is still one of the best dance songs of the last decade
BJSC 124
Donna Missal
'Hurt By You'
Jayrusalem's latest entry is 'Hurt By You', by American singer-songwriter Donna Missal!
'Hurt By You' is an alt-pop song, with a country edge to it. Lyrically it's an empowering song about letting go of a toxic relationship and attempting to achieve emotional distance from it.
“Letting someone go doesn’t have to signify loss and pain exclusively. There can be wide open space on the other side of that to feel autonomy, freedom, and room to grow. It doesn’t have to suck! And you don’t have to be hurt by change.” - Donna Missal
I love Donna's vocals on this song, she sounds raspy, powerful and defiant.
This is the most passionate I've felt about one of my entries since Myzica 'Wait Just a Minute' five years ago, and it's fast become of my favourite songs of the year. Many thanks to Joseph who introduced me to this heartfelt bop!
Only give me love when I'm giving it back
But you say you'll never be my friend
Always on the train, never on the track
So I'm jumping before the crash
And I know you're just trying to scare me
But you lost all of your effect
You can bark like a dog, baring your teeth
But I'm never going back again
No, I'm never going back again
Babe, it's true
I'm in love with what we were
But not with you
What's left to prove?
Tried so many damn times to cut you loose
Now I'm way too far away to be hurt by you
You call to say you're better, I know better than that
You're just looking for some sympathy
It's not about you or somebody new
This time it's about me
And I know you're gonna say I'm selfish
And I know you're gonna think it's mean
But you show up at my house in the middle of the night
Saying I'm the one that's crazy
Stop trying to debase me
Sorry if I gave the impression
That I'm trying to fix what we broke
Maybe we lay down our weapons
And make peace with letting go
'Cause babe it's true
I'm in love with what we were
But not with you

One of my early faves
Really pleased that you like it, Jack!
I first heard Fletcher - Forever last month and it's such a bop, best of luck in the final!
it's an amazing song! I discovered it when she supported Lewis Capaldi on tour a couple of months ago, she was a brilliant performer too. Alec Benjamin was also scheduled to perform but had to fly home to the US before corona travel restrictions came in - Donna completely turned around my disappointment at not seeing Alec!
Firstly, thank you to those of you who voted for Donna Missal in the last contest - I was pleasantly surprised to finish within the Top 20 of the results!

Audrey Mika
'Just Friends'
Jayrusalem's third entry of 2020 is 'Just Friends' by 19 year old American singer Audrey Mika! I can't find out much about her beyond the fact that she's amassed a strong YouTube and TikTok following, but hasn't everyone achieved that these days? x All I can say is that we've entered "cute bop" territory this month!
By the way, this is my 20th entry since joining the contest 7 years ago this month(!)
Just friends don't do what we do
Hey, what's up, where you been?
I've been waitin' by my phone
I don't know what you think
I've been tryin' figure you out
After hours, can you tell
I've been workin' hard lately?
Tryin' now to find a way to get to you
You're on my mind and
I want you as mine, but you
You waste my time, so I'm always runnin'
Don't turn away and I'm not
Not what they say, but you're
Not used to fate, so you're always runnin'
Just friends don’t do what we do
What we do can't do without you
Just friends don't say what we say
What we do can't do without you
Without you, yeah
Without you, without you, without you
You can try, try to hide
You been playin' it cool
I don't know how to act
Wish I could take it all back
But you know, I'll be here
When you need me, and you're callin'
Tryin' now to find a way get to me (Ah)
All I want, all I need, is your location
Drivin' down, 405, no hesitation
All I want, all I need, is your location (Location, oh)
Drivin' down, 405, no hesitation

OH! i know this expected it to show up - good luck chicken tikka!!
Thank you Leww *.* fingers crossed!
Argh I only discovered earlier that Just Friends came 21st in the semi, and 1 point behind the 20th place qualifier! So close (I think I would have needed 2 more points to qualify though). That's the way it goes sometimes! I'm glad some of you enjoyed it, and gave it some points.
I've had some other really close calls:
BJSC 59 - Joel Compass came 15th in the semi, there were 15 qualifiers
BJSC 66 - Naxxos came 16th in the semi, there were 15 qualifiers
BJSC 73 - Lion Babe came 16th in the semi, there were 16 qualifiers. From memory it was just 1 point ahead of 17th. Treat Me Like Fire went on to place 8th in the final!
I'm pretty sure I'll take part in BJSC 126. I've discovered quite a few songs over the past 3 months, so I have some thinking to do about which song my next entry should be!
