The judges were extremely focused on the appearance of the boys as individuals and how they'd look together above any other qualities. Which in fairness is an important factor that was ultimately crucial to their success. It's interesting that when it came to overall talent they mostly only elaborated when it came to Liam (at least from what this video shows us), stating that he could lead them, and also remarking that he had such a lot of confidence that he had given them the impression that he felt he was better than everybody else who'd auditioned. So going back to what Liam said recently... clearly he was aware of the value that was placed on him when they were formed, even though in this decision making process he was placed fourth... after it was established that Niall, Harry and Louis looked good together. It's funny to think that the lineup could quite easily have been different depending on which judges were there, and what qualities they were looking for. Cheryl and/or Dannii could have had a totally different perspective. Nicole clearly had her finger on the pulse!

Liam was the early focus which possibly gave him an ego and was hard for him when the other members all started to rise rapidly in popularity. That said, I don't think anyone would have predicted Harry to go on to one of the biggest stars worldwide.

BuzzJack Enthusiast Joined: 17 July 2015 Posts: 582 User: 22,168	Very interesting stuff. Harry's first song was pretty poor whereas I thought Louis wasn't that bad overall; clearly he needed a lot of improvement but that snippet we'd seen for 11 years made it look much worse than it was.
