Madonna in The World's 100 Most Powerful Women 2010:
Forbes.com compiled their list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women comprising heads of state and first ladies, bankers and cultural icons, CEOs and entrepreneurial athletes in a fresh look at power and creative influence. Madonna ranked at #29 in the list, topped by First Lady Michelle Obama, and this is what Forbes have to say about her:

The Material Girl may be the original pop sensation, credited with influencing female musicians from Britney Spears to Shakira, but with Lady Gaga hot on her heels, Madge is stepping up her game at age 52 to widen her appeal. 2010 saw the launch of the Material Girl clothing line with daughter Lourdes, 13, and the power mom is directing her second film, W.E., for release next year. A Madonna-themed episode of the Emmy-winning Glee brought her music to a new generation of fans. Her tour of 2009 was the fourth-highest-grossing, bringing in $6 million a night and $138 million overall.

'Madonna is so stubborn'"

She's the most stubborn woman in the world. As a woman, she's the highest in stubbornness. But she's very smart and incredibly cerebral. And I think that's why she's been able to change her style and image so much. Her music pays attention to what people are thinking." Madonna Letter Reveals Movie Misery
A letter written by Madonna while filming hit baseball movie A League Of Their Own has emerged online, detailing her misery as she was forced to go without 'make-up' and live in a city without any attractive men for company. Madonna starred alongside Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks and Rosie O'Donnell in the 1992 film, which followed the story of a women's baseball team. The pop superstar has previously admitted she didn't enjoy making the movie, but her true feelings about the project have now been revealed in a scathing 1991 letter to her friend, photographer Steven Meisel. Madonna rants about having to film outside, because the sunshine gave her an unwanted tan, and insists she was 'dirty all day' and unable to wear make-up. She writes, 'I cannot suffer any more than I have in the past month, learning how to play baseball with a bunch of girls (yuk) in Chicago (double yuk). I have a tan, I am dirty all day and I hardly ever wear make-up.' The singer also complains about the set's location in Chicago, Illinois and bemoans the lack of attractive men, adding, 'When God decided where all the beautiful men were going to live in the world, he did not choose Chicago.' Madonna also slams director Penny Marshall and brands her co-star Davis a 'Barbie doll', adding, 'I hate actresses'. From contactmusic.com

Madonna concert buzz looks a lot like a prayer (To be taken with a grain of salt, but still worth checking out)
The news that Madonna will hold her first concert in Seoul next May made headlines in the Korean media over the weekend. But some Korean entertainment insiders are doubtful about whether she will really be able to add her name to the list of pop superstars that have come to Korea in recent years - names that include Beyonce, Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder. On Spot E Korea, which claims to be the Korean branch of the U.S.-based firm On-Spot Enterprises, said on Sunday it has “finalized talks with Madonna to proceed with her concert in Seoul in May,” but that “details related to the concert date, schedule and security policies are still under discussion.” It added that it had formed a partnership with Korean company Again Don Quixote in early October to prepare for the event. But industry insiders say that On Spot E Korea’s announcement - which, at six months in advance of the actual dates, is much earlier than most concerts involving major-label pop stars - is a stunt to beat out local competitors, rather than being based on fact. Koreans fans have waited a long time for a concert by the “Queen of Pop.” She has toured neighboring countries like Japan but has yet to come to Korea. Given the revenue such a concert would bring, concert promoters have long fought to bring her here. One possibility, according to a source well acquainted with the situation, is that On Spot E Korea has not actually finalized a concert deal but is buying time so that rival bidders will give up. “The new firm has few funds and not much experience,” the source said. “The only way it could sign her would be to take advantage of the time vacuum to round up investors.” On Spot E Korea has a history of canceling heavily publicized events. It was scheduled to hold an event called the “On Spot Hip Hop Festival” on Oct. 30, but it was cancelled less than two weeks before the festival. The company promoted the event by advertising the appearance of U.S. hip-hop stars such as T-Pain. On Oct. 28, the company claimed that actor Kevin Bacon would show up at a press conference in Seoul the following day to announce he would be filming the movie “My Life, My Secret” in Korea. But only 30 minutes before the event was scheduled to begin, the company sent out a notice saying that it could not verify whether Bacon had gotten on a plane to Korea. On Spot E Korea could not be reached for comment. From an article by joongang.co.kr.

De Laurentiis was the international distributor and co-producer of the popular hit documentary film In Bed With Madonna (1991) and then in 1992 produced for Madonna the infamous film Body Of Evidence directed by Uli Edel.About working with Madonna he once said in an interview to Italian newspaper "Il Corriere Della Sera" that he didn't see Madonna as "the symbol of sin", as she was depicted at that time by world media. " I see her as an apparent bad girl, who knows how to behave well if you give her precise directions."

Carrie Ann Inaba about working with Madonna on the Girlie Show

Before Madonna locked lips with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera - "Dancing with the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba says she shared multiple kisses with the pop star.

The "Dancing" judge and host of GSN's GSN's "1 vs. 100" stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday and revealed details from her time as a dancer on Madonna's 1993 Girlie Show tour - a job for which she had to sacrifice her long locks.

"On that tour, when we all auditioned [Madonna] said, 'If you take this job you all have to shave your head.' I was cool with that because, you know, I'm Asian and there are so many stereotypes that we have a to be a doctor or graphic designer or lawyer or something like that. I was like, 'I'm going for it! I'm going to be the bald bold girl!'" she told Billy and Kit.

Carrie Ann added that she got to know the pop star in a very intimate way during the tour.
"She's amazing. She works so hard and she pushes your buttons. And, you know, we made out on the stage," Carrie Ann said. "Well, there was like an orgy thing on stage and we were doing this and that and it felt so good and one night my boyfriend was in the audience and her friend at the time was in the audience... I'm not saying whether it was a boy or girl, and they were in the audience. And she was, I think, trying to tempt them and trying to make them jealous, so she turned around and I just saw this tongue coming at me and we had this full on make out session on stage."

Not everyone was so excited to see Carrie Ann make out with Madonna.
"[My boyfriend] was mad because he was a Virgo. And he was like, 'That is wrong!' So, I approached her about it and I said, 'You know, that wasn't cool,' and she said, 'It's acting.' I said, 'If it was acting then we would have done it everyday in rehearsal,' and I said, 'If you want to kiss me you have to come to my room and knock on my door and ask me,'" Carrie Ann recalled.

The 'Dancing" judge told Billy and Kit that she never got a knock from Madonna, but did get another kiss.
"We did play truth or dare the last night of the tour... I had another kiss. We had the second kiss," she said.

Lea Michele wants Madonna on Glee

"Glee" actress Lea Michele wants Madonna to follow her showbiz pal Gwyneth Paltrow in appearing on the program and possibly singing.

When Michael Parkinson interviewed Madonna

"We were in talks with her people for about 20 years but it always came back that she'd only talk about this and she'd only talk about that and she won't talk about that."

"And we said, 'well, it's our show and we are never told what to say by any of our guests. And when Madonna is ready to talk to us on those terms it will be wonderful to interview her'. In 2005 we finally had a call, saying, 'Yes, she'll do it'. And we did a one-woman show and she was absolutely brilliant."

Madonna tops most talked-about star list

Madonna has been named the most talked-about celebrity of the decade.
The 52-year-old singer has been mentioned more in the UK print press than any other star in the last 10 years, with 46,017 namechecks.
The huge number dwarfs those of second and third placed stars Simon Cowell and Robbie Williams, who received 29,888 and 28,563 mentions each.
Brian Merron of researcher Kantar Media, who compiled the figures, wasn't surprised by the outcome.
He said: 'This is why she's hailed as a legend.'
Contributing to Madonna's name checks in the last decade were her marriage and divorce to Guy Ritchie, subsequent relationships with Jesus Luz and Brahim Zaibat, the birth of her son Rocco, now 10, adoption of tots David and Mercy, and four huge world tours in support of new material.
Though Simon was named in second place overall, the research showed he had been mentioned more in the UK press than anyone else in 2010.
Other celebrities to feature in the list included Kate Moss, Britney Spears, Victoria and David Beckham, the late Michael Jackson, Sir Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue.

Top 10 most talked about celebrities of the decade:

1 - Madonna (46,017)
2 - Simon Cowell (29,888)
3 - Robbie Williams (28,563)
4 - Kate Moss (28,056)
5 - Britney Spears (27,588)
6 - Victoria Beckham (25,833)
7 - David Beckham (24,953)
8 - Michael Jackson (24, 688)

Madonna shipped boxes and bales containing toys, chocolate and sweets to six orphanages in Malawi. Along with the goodies, the Queen Of Pop included a handwritten note that read "To my Malawi children on Christmas and Boxing Day. I wish I was with you. See you soon, M."

Officials at Madonna's charity, Raising Malawi, distributed the items and other miniature Christmas cards signed by Madonna and children Lourdes and Rocco. The notes read: "Mercy, David, Rocco, Lourdes and I send you a blessed Christmas to all of you!"

Also in the bales were new clothing and items that Madonna, Lourdes, Rocco and Mercy have outgrown and can no longer use, officials tell UsMagazine.com. Madonna also threw an open-air party at Consol Homes, an orphanage near Lilongwe, the town where she teaches a Kabbalah spirituality class to children. Over 1,000 people from the surrounding villages were invited to celebrate with the 2,500 orphans and underprivileged children. "Madonna says she always enjoys the traditional dances the villagers perform for her when she visits," Yacinta Chapomba, director of Consol Homes, tells Us. "She asked us to invite as many villagers as possible for the Christmas party."

Madonna's Security Teams Help Police With Investigation

Madonna has been embroiled in a police investigation after a suspected thief plunged 100 feet (30 metres) from an apartment block and landed by the back door of the star's London home on Friday afternoon.
The Holiday hitmaker's $15 million (£10 million) Marylebone property was surrounded by cops after a man being chased by officials attempted to climb out of a window in the block next to Madonna's property.
He fell into a communal parking area just a few feet from the star's door and was admitted to a central London hospital, where he is said to be in a critical condition.
Metropolitan Police officers have referred the case to officials at the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), who will allegedly review footage from Madonna’s CCTV cameras, which are thought to have captured the horror on film, according to Britain's Mail on Sunday.
Madonna's head of security tells the publication, 'We have given the police everything they need. I can't say if it was CCTV film. I also can't say if Madonna was here at the time of the accident.'
The singer was in the U.K. capital on Thursday and was seen partying at Aura nightclub with her new boyfriend Brahim Zaibat, before leaving the venue in the early hours of Friday morning.

Madonna issues a statement about Malawi

In an exclusive statement issued to the Huffington Post queen of pop Madonna speaks about her involvement in Raising Malawi:

"I remain deeply committed and I am more passionate than ever about helping the children of Malawi - especially the girls. In a country where only 33% of Malawian girls attend secondary school, I realize that the plans we had in place for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls simply would not serve enough children. My original vision is now on a much bigger scale. I want to reach thousands not hundreds of girls. I want to do more and I want to do it better. While I am grateful to all the people who have given me guidance and support up until now, we are in the process of implementing several changes and additions to the management of Raising Malawi in both the US and Malawi. I am also working with Trevor Neilson and his team at Global Philanthropy Group to shift the strategies that we had in place so that we can accomplish our goals with more efficiency as we continue to consult with our government partners in Malawi. This is a larger challenge than I thought, but I welcome it. We are focused on an approach which builds schools within communities across the country. We are currently determining the size, location, staffing and curriculum of the schools. I will continue to monitor the process of reaching these goals here and through my ongoing visits to Malawi."

Vanilla Ice has revealed that he dated Madonna when he was 24-years-old and she was 33.
The rapper admitted that it was 'exciting' to have a relationship with an older woman but said he ended it when Madonna published her 1992 coffee-table book Sex, which featured intimate photographs of the pair and images of her with other men.
'Going out with Madonna was exciting,' he told the News of the World. 'She was older than me and a great lover. She's still the oldest person I've ever been with, so it was an experience.'
'But I broke up with her after she printed that book because I was hurt to be an unwitting part of this slutty package. It was disgusting and cheap. We were in a relationship yet it looked like she was screwing all these other people.'
'I thought she was taking pictures and running round naked because she was like that. Then when the book came out I was so embarrassed and ashamed. It was a porno. She threw me in like I was a product off a shelf and I didn't appreciate it. That was it and I ended it. She said she didn't have sex with these men but it looked like she was.

Carlos Leon Thanks Madonna For Lourdes

Madonna's ex-lover Carlos Leon says he is 'forever grateful' to the singer for giving him his daughter Lourdes.
The personal trainer-and-actor insists he has no regrets about his relationship with the pop superstar in the mid-90s because if it hadn't have happened he wouldn't be a father.
He told People: 'I'm forever grateful to [Madonna]. I have no regrets. I wouldn't change anything. I got the best thing out of that relationship, and that's my daughter. My daughter is everything to me.'
Carlos admits he finds it tough disciplining 14-year-old Lourdes - who designed the 'Material Girl' clothing line with her mother Madonna - and accepts he can be too soft with her, like a lot of parents with teenagers.
He added: 'I'm a lenient dad. I'm very empathetic, and I'm good at listening to my daughter....I'm probably a bad dad when it comes to disciplining her.'
The 44-year-old actor - who stars in new film 'Immigration Tango' - claims Lourdes hasn't started dating yet, and he is 'dreading' the moment when he has to meet her first boyfriend.
He said: 'I'm dreading it so much, because she's my little girl. I want her to stay young forever. I'm already overprotective, so when the time comes, I will be ready to have a talk with the guy she brings through the door. He better be ready, because I'll give him the rundown!'

Madonna and Demi Moore to co-host glittering Oscars bash

Forget the ceremony, this is one Academy Awards after-party we’d really love an invite to. Madonna and Demi Moore are set to team up for the second year running, according to reports, to host a glittering post-Oscar bash for all their A-list friends.
It’s thought Madge and Demi will welcome pals to Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary’s luxurious LA pad around 10pm, as the awards draw to a close.
And the A-list guest list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood.
It’s thought hotly-tipped pair Natalie Portman and Colin Firth are both on the attendee list, as well as Justin Timberlake, Nicole Kidman and director David Fincher. Phew.
And that’s not all. Many more stars are expected to flood to the party when their official Oscar duties are over, to celebrate on into the night.
‘Everybody's on it,’ one insider told Variety of the super-exclusive guest list. ‘It gives the A-list Vanity Fair crowd someplace to go to.
‘It will probably be pared down to where it's 85-per-cent talent, not a lot of suits.’

Madonna's new movie to premiere at Venice Film Festival

Madonna's new film, 'W.E' will get its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, The Daily Mail reports.

The 52-year-old singer has directed new movie 'W.E.' - a two-tier tale about Britain's King Edward VIII's relationship with American Wallis Simpson and a modern story regarding a woman called Wally Simpson - and the full feature will be shown to critics and audiences at the Venice Lido during the September event.

The film stars Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough and Laurence Fox, while 14-year-old daughter Lourdes has been given a cameo role.
All the stars are expected to descend on the Italian city for the premiere, according to The Daily Mail

Madonna - whose only other directing credit is 2008's 'Filth and Wisdom', which starred Richard E. Grant and Eugene Hutz - showed a few scenes from the film at last month's Berlin Film Festival in a bid to pick up distributors.

Last year, Madonna said she had put her music career on hold so she could concentrate on her family life and the movie.
The mother-of-four said: "I haven't really been focused as much as I should be on the music part of my career, because the movie has consumed every inch of me.
"Between that and my four children, I don't have the time or energy for anything else."

For the first time in Out's history, the magazine is dedicating their entire April issue to the women who inspire, scandalize, educate, and excite us - in a different way than they excite the other boys. And they're celebrating the landmark moment with another first for them - two different covers.

One will feature the indelible Britney Spears shot exclusively for Out by Ruven Afanador and the other will feature never-seen-before photos of Madonna shot by photographer Richard Corman in 1982 just months before her career skyrocketed.

On March 14 Out.com will feature their exclusive Madonna photos and begin to roll out the other Ladies We Love featured in the issue.

William Orbit talks about his work on 'W.E.'

Madonna has been touted for Oscar success with her debut feature film 'W.E.'.
The 52-year-old singer has directed the movie - a two-tier tale about Britain's King Edward VIII's relationship with American Wallis Simpson and a modern story regarding a woman called Wally Simpson - and while many are expecting it to fail, music producer William Orbit says people will be surprised by how good it is.
William - who has worked with Madonna on the soundtrack for the movie - said: 'I've done two pieces of score music for the film.'
'It's hard to describe but they're quite moody as they come at pivotal moment during the romance. I've watched the film several times and it's really good.'
'It's definitely Oscar-worthy and I'm not just saying that. I wouldn't comment on her past acting abilities so you know by me saying what I have that it's really a great film. I definitely think Madonna could be up for an Oscar for Best Director.'
William says Madonna - who will debut the film at the Venice Film Festival in September - is great working with people even though can be quite 'autocratic'.
He told Deanpiper.com: 'She has a very good eye and a great way with people. I'm not saying anything new by revealing she's autocratic but as long as people share the same vision then it works and this film really does.'

Madonna - one of Culture's Top 100 women in UK

The musical queen of reinvention, still in the spotlight in her 50s - on her own terms - on The Guardian's Top 100 women in art, film, music and fashion

Gym bunny, earth mother, lady of the manor, material girl and scourge of the Catholic church; if one of Madonna's reinventions doesn't inspire you, there are plenty more. But while her multiple faces might seem calculating one thing she has never tried to tinker with is her own strength.

No matter the decade or the fashion, she has always been frank about her toughness and ambition. People may sneer at her muscular arms, but they miss the point Madonna is about power. She is still one of the most famous women on the planet, despite nearly 30 years in a notoriously fickle business, and compared with her contemporaries Michael Jackson and Prince - has remained in the spotlight largely on her own terms.

She inspires not because she gives other women a helping hand, but because she breaks the boundaries of what's considered acceptable for women talking openly about her desires, refusing to pretend to be gentle, taking younger lovers, allowing her physical strength to be seen, still presenting herself as sexual at 52. The outrage, derision and "how dare she" comments that follow her every move are testament to the fact that the more she changes the more she stays the same.

"I get an avalanche of tweets everyday asking me when I'll next be getting back into the studio with Madonna but you'll have to ask her that,"
"She's always trying new things so who knows what she will come out with next."

Liz Smith on 'W.E.'

US columnist Liz Smith has written this small snippet of news about Madonna's new film in her latest column at www.wowowow.com/culture/liz-smith:

Madonna is just about done editing her film, 'W.E.' The star wrote and directed this tale of a modern young woman (Abbie Cornish) who is fascinated by the historic 'fairytale' romance of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Frustratingly, I cannot say too much about the film. But I do feel safe in saying that Madonna is going to surprise just about everybody with her finesse here. 'W.E.' is lush, compelling, romantic, funny and tragic. The pop icon is one hell of a director. But that’s no surprise to me

Madonna with Lourdes and Steven Klein at the Kabbalah centre in New York Yesterday (Mar 26th)

Eight workers at Madonna’s Malawi charity are suing the pop star for unfair dismissal and non-payment of their benefits, their lawyer said on Sunday.
The board of the charity, Raising Malawi, was sacked after abandoning plans to build a state of the art girls’ school just outside the capital Lilongwe due to mismanagement, the New York Times newspaper reported on Saturday.
Madonna, who has adopted two children from Malawi, lent $11 million to the organization and is now on the board.
The workers’ lawyer, Mzondi Chirambo, said Madonna had 14 days to respond to their concerns.
“Their employment was terminated by the trustees of Raising Malawi Academy for Girls ostensibly following the change of plan not to build the school as planned,” Chirambo said.
“My clients are also being forced to sign a discriminatory termination agreement before they are paid their benefits.”
Chirambo said one of the workers he represented was the chief executive of the school, some taught Jewish Kabbalah mysticism while the others were connected to the school project.
The papers were filed with the Industrial Court, which handles labor disputes.
Madonna’s U.S. representative was not immediately available for comment.
The New York Times said the plan to build the school had collapsed after $3.8 million was spent with little to show for it. Its executive director left in October amid criticism of his management style and cost overruns.

Isaac: Madonna wanted pecs appeal

Oscar Isaac has admitted stripping off for Madonna on the set of her new film was 'incredibly intimidating'.
The Sucker Punch actor filmed a passionate love scene for the Queen of Pop's latest movie project W.E, playing a Russian security guard who embarks on an affair with New York socialite Wally Winthrop (Abbie Cornish).
Oscar said of his superstar director: 'She was adamant that both men and women scream when I take my shirt off so I had to do a lot of training for that. I was passable by the end she said!'
He went on: 'That was something actually. Having to do a love scene with Abbie (Cornish) and then having Madonna yelling direction about how to make love better was definitely a surreal moment.'
The film, which Madonna also co-wrote, focuses on the affair between King Edward VIII (James D'Arcy) and American divorcee Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough), plus the contemporary romance between Oscar and Abbie's characters. Oscar revealed gym fan Madonna was keen to ensure his physique looked the part.
'(It was) incredibly intimidating, she really inspected to make sure every muscle was in its place. But it was an amazing experience doing that film and I'm really excited to see it.'

Oscar Isaac and Abbie Cornish have praised Madonna, who directed them in upcoming movie W.E.

Cornish plays New Yorker Wally Winthrop in the royal drama and her Sucker Punch co-star Issac plays Russian love interest Evgeni.

Asked what Madonna was like to work with, Isaac told DS: “She’s very funny – definitely determined and quite a visionary.

“I think she’s pretty incredible and has amazing taste. It was just pretty wild to be directed by this icon. I’m really excited I get to see it.”

Of collaborating with Madonna, Cornish added: “She was amazing to work with. It was interesting making that film with Oscar too, because in [Sucker Punch] he has such an ominous, dark, messed-up presence.

“Then to go and make a film where he was playing a love interest – he’s this Russian pianist who is very sensitive – that was a lot of fun. Madonna’s amazing.”

Jo Whiley on Madonna

So what’s your personal highlight of the years at Radio 1?

She laughs. “Having Madonna co-presenting was pretty cool,”

“She was in the studio for an hour and a half just sitting right in front of me. She was all in purple – purple coat, purple knicker bockers and boots – and was necking a massive bottle of cold green tea.

“She gave me a lecture about how I should be drinking that instead of coffee!

“But she was so down to earth. We chatted about our daughters and taking our kids horse-riding. There was no awkwardness between records like there can be. I really liked her.”

Liz Rosenberg’s statement about Raising Malawi rumors

“In recent days a number of wild and totally false rumors about Madonna’s philanthropy–spread by bloggers and tabloids–have begun appearing on the internet. As we have said previously, Raising Malawi is currently undergoing a series of positive changes in an effort to serve more children. Neither Madonna nor Raising Malawi is being investigated by the FBI or the IRS. It is unfortunate that people have chosen to say things about Raising Malawi and Madonna that are not true. Madonna remains committed and focused on what matters helping the children of Malawi.”

Up N' Down reminds me of Up Down Suite.

As I'm not a hardcore Britney fan 16 tracks is probably too much for one album anyway it's worth checking out.

''Madonna would make a great Norma Desmond on screen''

Andrew Lloyd Webber thinks Madonna would be great in a remake of 'Sunset Boulevard' and told Piers Morgan: "I bet you this never, ever, happens, but you know who would make a great Norma Desmond on screen? Madonna.

"She's the right age. I've not got through to her. She hasn't taken my call this time."

Webber previously worked with Madonna as the composer and songwriter on 'Evita' for which he won an Oscar for Best Music and Madonna picked up a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress.

Madonna unveils a sympathetic portrait of Wallis Simpson

After she was turned into a hate figure in the film The King's Speech and Any Human Heart, the television adaptation of William Boyd's novel, the late Wallis, Duchess of Windsor, will receive at least a measure of sympathy when Andrea Riseborough portrays her in Madonna's forthcoming film, W.E.

"It is a kinder, gentler portrayal," says Hugo Vickers, the author of Behind Closed Doors, a new biography of the Duchess, who acted as the film's historical adviser. "It is silly to portray her as a baddie. If there was anyone who was a baddie it was Edward VIII."

The author also worked as a consultant on The King's Speech in which he felt that Wallis - played by Eve Best - was turned into "too gauche" a character. "Obviously, as an adviser, I can only make sure these films are as historically accurate as possible and I have no say in the dramatic content," says Vickers. "I think Andrea Riseborough captures the character very well, however. She makes her human."

Madonna, who is the director and co-writer of the film, has presented a two-tiered romantic drama focusing on Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson and a contemporary romance between a married woman and a Russian security guard.
The film is likely to please Edward Fox. The actor, who appeared in the television series Edward & Mrs Simpson, told me just before Christmas that he had spoken to a lot of people who knew Wallis. "They told me she was fun, hospitable and welcoming," he said. "Sadly, we live in harsher times today than when we made that series. We seem to have an insatiable appetite for figures that we can hate."

Madonna, by the way, goes back a long way with Vickers. It was he who advised her to purchase, with her former husband Guy Ritchie, Ashcombe House in Wiltshire, the former home of Cecil Beaton, when it came up for sale in 2001.

'Sure enough, we're off to Venice. That's Madonna''

Abbie Cornish opened up with the sideny Morning Herald about Heath Ledger, Madonna and the fuss over fantasy flick Sucker Punch.

Cornish counts Madonna as a friend and collaborator. Her next film, W.E, is directed and co-written by the singer and will premiere in Venice later this year. It tells the story of a lonely woman obsessed with the abdication of King Edward VIII, a subject integral to this year's best picture Oscar winner, The King's Speech. Cornish says, as with Ledger, that her new co-star has given her something inspirational to add to that teenaged view of a world where anything is possible.

''It's her discovery of love and sacrifice and what [they] mean,'' Cornish says of the film, in which she plays an unhappily married woman named Wally Winthrop.

''And I remember when we were shooting Madonna said, 'I really want to go to Venice.' And sure enough, we're off to Venice. That's Madonna. She's such a force. She's such an amazing woman. If she puts her mind to something, it'll actually exist.''

Michael Putland: Triptychs

Three Madonna portraits by photographer Michael Putland are featured in a new exhibition at Snap Galleries, in Central London.

Snap hosted a solo show for Michael Putland in their Birmingham gallery back in 2005 which was a great success, and are now delighted to be working with Michael again on this new exhibition of triptychs.

In this new exhibition, Michael Putland presents a collection of work from his extensive 1970s and 80s photographic archives in a stunning new format, presenting three individual frames as a single artwork. Other artists featured in the collection are Madonna, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, John Lennon, David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Tom Waits, Bob Marley, Steven Stills, Tim Buckley and Prince.
As Michael Putland explains The inspiration for the project actually came from the Renaissance. Seeing many Renaissance originals in museums and churches over the years, it struck me that there could be a contemporary twist to this age old method of image presentation, and I started to explore images within my archive to see whether any would be suitable for combining as triptychs. The deeper I dug, the more I came up with, and Im delighted with the results. In each triptych, my guiding principle was that the three images should work together as a coherent whole - there had to be an anchor image in the centre, and then a natural image for the left and one which sat naturally to the right.

Marina And The Diamonds on Madonna

Who do you think are pop’s best female role models?

The people that I admire, they might not live moral lives, but they’re just so f*cking honest. For me, John Lydon [aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols] is a hero. Madonna. I hate this kind of media training thing where people asked a question and the artist just skirts around it. I don’t think Madonna ever did that. Whatever you asked her, she’d give you an answer. And I think that’s how it should be. If people are investing in you and beliving you, at least give them the truth

Whit Hill’s New Book Is ‘Not about Madonna’

Not About Madonna: My Little Pre-Icon Roommate — and Other Memoirs by Whit Hill will be published in September by Heliotrope Books (272 pages, trade paperback 978-0-9832940-0-9 $17.95).

“In the fall of 1977, when I came to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to enter the dance program at the University of Michigan, I thought I knew a thing or two. I had acted professionally in New York City, my hometown. I had posed nude for art classes. … I was a very modern girl. … When I met Madonna Ciccone, my initial assessment, even as I watched her leg soaring into an effortless front extension, was that I had little to learn from any young whippersnapper from Michigan, safety-pinned earlobes or no. I felt no instant flush of warmth and trust the day we met, no recognition of a kindred spirit — in fact all I recall feeling was an almost seismic wariness. But somehow, a few days later, she was my roommate. … I never knew what hit me.”

So begins Whit Hill’s compelling, poignant—and very funny—memoir of her life, as reflected through the lens of her junior year at the University of Michigan—with her roommate Madonna. NOT ABOUT MADONNA it is also the story of the years that followed for Whit, a life of motherhood, dance, music, love, loss, change, and the bizarre experience of unwittingly becoming a semi-professional “Madonna expert.”

As close as sisters (yet at times as distant as constellations), these college roommates shared not just a tiny room but experiences of looming adulthood, sexuality, affections, and hard work for their art. Madonna and Whit learned from each other, influenced each other, loved each other—then parted, taking off on their own individual roads.

Not about Madonna is a book about two very different women who lived alongside each other for nine months, about women artists in America, about mothers and daughters, about giving birth — to hot, squirming babies, and to huge, ionospheric pop careers. It is about loss and poverty and hope and happiness and remembrance. And it is, heartbreakingly, about all the ways you can lose your mom.

The book includes a never-before-published, seven-page handwritten letter Madonna wrote Whit during Christmas break, 1977. Intensely personal and beautifully written, the letter is a glimpse inside the mind of a young woman on the brink of something extraordinary.

When asked how the book came about, Whit says, “I’ve been working on Not About Madonna on and off for the last twenty years or so—sometimes enthusiastically, sometimes half-heartedly, sometimes with hope, other times with bewilderment. I’ll admit it: I started the project to try and support myself and my kids while trying to be an artist. But then I decided I needed to write something I could be proud of. I just wanted to take the celebrity ‘I-Knew-Her-When’ schlock and make something beautiful out of it. Like finding a piece of plastic on the beach and incorporating it into a mosaic. I hope I’ve succeeded.”

Madonna kicks off legal defense against Malawi workers

US pop icon Madonna has begun her legal defense in a Malawian court as workers at one of the singer’s charity projects attempt to sue for unfair dismissal, a tribunal official said Monday.

Eight staff at the failed $15 million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls (RMAG) lodged the action at the end of March, claiming they were let go without proper procedures.

The star said “there is nothing unfair about the termination of the applicants’ employment given the termination of employment was necessitated by genuine economic reasons,” in documents filed last week by lawyer Davis Njobvu.

Madonna said the decision not to continue funding the academy project was taken by her charity Raising Malawi Inc. “after carefully reviewing its financial commitments and future plans and was made in good faith.”

Led by Anjimile Oponya, the former head of the school, the workers allege they were forced to sign a termination agreement they describe as “unfair and unconstitutional”.

Madonna, who adopted children David Banda and Mercy James from Malawian orphanages, said the charity had proposed to pay them more than they were due on the condition they signed a “confidentiality agreement.”

The pop star also said Raising Malawi, a US-registered foundation providing funds for the school’s construction, was not directly implicated in the affair and it was RMAG that “would be responsible for any matters relating to the applicants’ employment.”

She said RMAG was “ready and willing to pay the applicants their retrenchments and redundancy benefits calculated in accordance with the Employment Act and the laws of Malawi.”

A hearing of the application to strike out Raising Malawi as a party to the action has been set for Wednesday in Blantyre.

Madonna announced in January that she was reviewing the direction of Raising Malawi, which had originally planned to establish an academy offering 500 scholarships to girls from impoverished backgrounds.

In a statement, she said she had realized the academy would not be enough as two-thirds of girls are not educated beyond primary school and she wanted to reach “thousands and not hundreds of girls” by constructing several schools in the area

Madonna has launched a legal defence against a group of sacked employees from her Raising Malawi charity.

The superstar is being sued by eight workers who claim they were unfairly dismissed after plans to build a girls’ school were scrapped.

After initially announcing plans for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls two years ago, the project was abandoned in January after it was revealed that the charity’s board of directors, set up by the star, had allegedly squandered £2.4m on excessive salaries, free housing and chauffeur driven cars.

The Music singer, who has two adopted children from the impoverished African nation, lent $11m of her own funds to the organisation.

New papers filed by Madge’s lawyers insist that the staff were dismissed due to "genuine economic reasons". The papers state: "There is nothing unfair about the termination of the applicants' employment since termination of employment was necessitated by genuine economic reasons... [The decision to scrap the school was made]after carefully reviewing its financial commitments and future plans and was made in good faith... [We] had tried to act reasonably and expediently to avoid frustrating the former workers."

On a brighter note, the queen of pop is reuniting with William Orbit, who produced her Ray Of Light album. The uber-producer is helping out with the soundtrack to W.E., the film Madonna is directing about the romance between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, which led to the king’s abdication.

Debbie Harry thinks she could have “been Madonna” if she’d worked harder
With her edge style and daring on-stage outfits, the Blondie frontwoman is often cited as a precursor for today’s major music icons including Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Despite her legendary status as a musician, the 65-year-old star says she would have been able to achieve the same levels of fame as Madonna if she had put more thought into her long-term plan. Debbie thinks the American star – often nicknamed the Queen of Pop – is clearly more driven than her, an idea which was compounded when they met.

“Did I ever meet her? Yes. I worked with Mary Lambert [film-maker who directed Madonna’s Like A Virgin and Material Girl videos] on my hit I Want That Man video. She took me to Madonna’s birthday party. But we are from totally different ways of thinking,” she said in an interview with Q magazine. “She is so totally career-orientated and showbiz-minded. I missed the boat on that one. If I had thought more I would probably have been Madonna before she was.”

Despite their differences, Debbie considers Madonna an exceptional artist. However, there are many other artists she’s been even more impressed with.

“She had some really great songs. She’s a great performer and a great dancer. Anyone who has that determination and drive, you have to give them credit. But she wasn’t my favourite,” she added.

7 reasons why Madonna shouldn't have felt 'fat' at Met Gala

US Magazine says Madonna claims she looked "fat" at the Met Gala last night in her blue Stella McCartney gown.
Now we understand that everyone has their "fat days" now and then, but the Material Girl has been one of the hottest gals in Hollywood for decades, and, at 52, she's still got it -- whether she thinks so or not.

Here are just a few of the reasons why:

1. She's #10 on our list of the 50 Most Beautiful Women Over 50
2. She's super into fitness and even started her own gym in Mexico City last year
3. Have you seen her arms?
4. She dates guys a fraction of her age
5. Her dress is made of the most unforgiving fabric ever
6. She's on a macrobiotic diet, which must automatically make you hardcore and hot
7. Did we mention she's 52?

So, Madonna: You're wrong.

Madonna Auctions Chanel Boots to Support Daughter’s School

Madonna has donated a pair of personally-worn and autographed Chanel boots to an online auction site, with proceeds going to New York City’s LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, which her daughter Lourdes attends. Other alumni of the famed performing arts school include Jennifer Aniston, Liza Minelli and Adrian Grenier.

The LaGuardia Benefit Auction, being held May 5-12 at GottaHaveRockandRoll.com, will help raise money so the school can make up for budget cuts in excess of $2.6 million, with more possible cuts on the horizon. Proceeds from Madonna’s boots, which have a starting bid of $1,000, will help support grants to the school’s many artistic studios, as well as tutoring, library upgrades, and after-school programs

I did read in a interview she said that she has power over all her songs when she left WB and that she left on good terms. But like you said how long will they let her have that.....
It wouldn't surprise me if they released an album to co-inside with an album she had released etc.

Lady Gaga’s Creative Director admits ripping off Madonna

LA Times: A lot of her visual aesthetics have been compared to Madonna. As her creative director what are your thoughts on that?

Laurieann Gibson: Listen, [Madonna] should be bitter because I did it on purpose, and you can quote me. I did it on purpose because for all those kids who believe that you can’t, I wanted to let them feel that you can. And that’s what I represent, that’s what Gags represents. Howard Stern: Lady Gaga ‘s new HBO special is a straight up rip off of Madonna ‘s 1991 concert documentary ‘Truth or Dare’.

?

Here we go again…the never ending story about Madonna vs Lady Gaga.

?

Stern featured clips of ‘Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden‘ during Monday morning’s Howard Stern Show, ridiculing the world’s most popular pop star for her lack of originality.

“You could almost take the dialogue straight from the Madonna movie Truth or Dare,” said Stern while playing a clip of Lady Gaga sobbing backstage in front of the makeup mirror, talking about her fear of letting down her fans. “You can tell as a little girl she watched that Madonna movie and just wanted to be Madonna…She’s crying into the make up mirror and it’s in black and white just like Truth or Dare’.

Madonna’s 1991 ‘Truth or Dare’ featured a memorable scene from her Blonde Ambition tour during which she weeps about the prospect of letting down fans in her home town of Detroit.

Stern also called Lady Gaga “insanely boring,” “dopey” and “a complete f***ing idiot”.

Lady Gaga feel like a looser…clip from HBO special:

Madonna opens up in “Truth or dare”:

Madonna:
” I think I’m in a state of shock.
I know the tour’s over, but it’s–
Last week in Spain, I really felt like I was gonna have a nervous breakdown.
I couldn’t take the crowds, do the shows. It was too hot.
Everything was getting to me. And I thought…
I think I’m getting ready for the depression for when the tour’s over.
But I really didn’t feel emotional last night.
I know everybody else did…
but I didn’t feel emotional because it was like it already ended for me.
It’s like when you know someone’s dying…
you have to make your peace before they die.
I’ve done this with close friends of mine.
I make my peace with it before it happens…
so I don’t get really hurt.
And then when it happens it’s like…
I don’t feel anything.
But I know I’ll feel something later.
I just don’t know when that’s gonna be.
I guess it’s a protection device.
I hope I’m in a safe place when it happens.
What’s wrong with me? I’m freaking out"

Donna De Lory talks about her new album and of course Madonna:

“Who’s That Girl?” It’s Donna De Lory, who toured for years with Madonna and continues to stretch her legs as an artist with new albums, is now focusing on the world of yoga. De Lory has finally found sanctuary in California, where she chatted about her new life.

Windy City Times: Hello, Donna. After all this time are you still talking to Madonna?

Donna De Lory: Yes; over the last few years we have been hanging out when we work together. I have my family and she has her family. She was always telling me what it was like before and now that I have mine we just look at each other and know. We can relate now.

Windy City Times: Is it hard having a career and a baby?

Donna De Lory: Of course; I have an 8-year-old, too. I took her on two Madonna tours—crazy—when she was 1 and 3. I was doing my own shows on my days off, which was completely insane. We got through it and have a lot of amazing memories. My daughter is funny: “I have been on three world tours with Madonna!” I tell her it’s two, not three.

Windy City Times: Would you like your kids to go into the music business?

Donna De Lory: Only if it is their heart and soul. The little one, Lucianna, who is two, is so musical. I had to fight her from playing my keyboard today. She literally pushes me off and has to play.

Windy City Times: What a little diva!

Donna De Lory: She has to sing, too. Sometimes when I put her down to bed she sings the lullabies back to me. It’s incredible.

Windy City Times: You have always had a musical family.

Donna De Lory: Yes, I have. My dad was a producer at Capitol Records when I was growing up. He was already a legendary keyboard player because he has played on so many rock ‘n roll records. We would work on films and we would go to the premieres. We always be backstage and being around musicians. I was shy when I was little but my sister started singing professionally when she was a kid. She sang on The Carpenters song “Sing” so I grew up behind her wanting to sing. I started when I was 8 but was painfully shy. At a very young age I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

Windy City Times: Were you influenced by musicians when you were younger?

Donna De Lory: I was getting into artists like Pat Benatar and The Go-Go’s so it made me want to be like them. With Blondie and Chrissie Hynde there were enough really cool rocking singers that I wanted to do that whole thing.

Windy City Times: Did you go to school for it?

Donna De Lory: Not really; my high school was pretty mediocre with the arts. They gave all the parts in school to people that would never get opportunities like the ones I had growing up. I had to really fight for things. My mother died a week after my 16th birthday and I moved to Nashville with my dad because he was producing records there. I changed from wanting to be Pat Benatar to a country singer. At night I would go dance at this place called The Warehouse.

Windy City Times: I know that place. It was one of the first bars I went to in Nashville.

Donna De Lory: It was the only gay club in town back then. I would be the only girl there. No one would bother me and I could dance. I needed it. My brother wound up going there later and it was his place to hang out.

Windy City Times: Is your brother gay?

Donna De Lory: Yes; he moved from Nashville to West Hollywood. He works at a restaurant and his own music. He writes totally different music than me. He calls it boy-band R&B.

Windy City Times: So tell me more about your journey as a musician.

Donna De Lory: After Nashville, I moved back to L.A. and used my skill of singing. I would go to every studio and drop off my demo tape. I would sit on the couch and wait for the producer to walk out. I would do my spiel and try to get hired. With my dance experience it all came together when I auditioned for Madonna. I got that tour and it was a huge thing, opening my eyes to performing for the world and not just in the studios.

Windy City Times: That must have been amazing.

Donna De Lory: It was. I really grew up with her. She was like a big sister that I wanted to be like. I realized I was a performer. I got to work on that aspect of myself for many years working for her but in that time I started developing as an artist. My first release was in Japan from the band Berlin when they wanted to do a side project. After that I started shopping myself as an artist.

Windy City Times: You have really evolved since then.

Donna De Lory: It took a while. I eventually got away from my label because I was into world music and they were not into it at all. I started my own label in the late nineties, then I was able to release my record. I went on my own tour and did the whole Ani Difranco thing and sold my records. This was a huge shift for me because I grew up thinking I had to get signed to a huge company. There was always such pressure to have a huge hit right off the bat.

Windy City Times: The music business is just set up like that.

Donna De Lory: It is. So—flash forward—I started my own company and met a cellist, Cameron Stone, who was my musical partner for a long time. This when I made my record, Bliss. There are electronic beats but also eclectic and classical styles. The whole Madonna, Belinda Carlisle thing was not happening for me. I got more into yoga and spiritual studies. I was able to release a record of mantras that did really well in the yoga market. It is a huge community. I eventually did an album called Sanctuary.

Windy City Times: Now you have remix album out.

Donna De Lory: I wanted to release this record because I was getting back into dancing. Since I am not into partying I started going to trance dance classes. It is going into a studio and it is free form and no alcohol. The place I was going was an old rehearsal room for Fred Astaire. The music was so powerful and tribal. It reminded me of dancing all night at The Warehouse. I was inspired and wanted to make more of that music.

Britney Spears: “Madonna taught me to stay true to myself”

Britney Spears: I actually saw her a couple of weeks ago at a party. I guess she’s really taught me to stay true to myself. Live Nation, Guy Oseary launch online photo gallery

This week, Untitled Entertainment partner Guy Oseary and Live Nation are going live with a joint web venture RockPaperPhoto.com, an online art gallery selling largely unpublished, hand-signed, limited-edition prints of more than 1,000 singers and acts ranging from Madonna, B.B. King, James Brown to Green Day and Gwen Stefani.

The site features the work of 70 photographers including such recognized names as Baron Wolman, Ian Dickson, Deborah Feingold and Michael Putland. RockPaperPhoto museum-quality processes include silver gelatin, archival chromogenic, platinum print and archival print, with entry prices at $250 running to a top-tier of $10K.

The website is a bit of a passion project for Oseary, who manages the careers of Madonna and Alex Rodriguez among others and is also the exec producer of “Last Call with Carson Daly.” He was the architect of Madonna’s landmark 2007 deal with Live Nation.

“I’ve been collecting photos for a long time, I mean since I started making money. But what you have had to go through to find a good photo is like a needle in the haystack sometimes. You’ll drive from one gallery to the next gallery to the next gallery. It’s not an easy process. It’s a very ancient model that just hasn’t caught up with the times,” says Oseary. “So I really came up with this idea out of frustration.”

The Madonna MegaMix is the newest creation by remix artist Haus of Glitch. It crams 38 Madonna tracks into three and a half minutes, using glitches, stutters and errors to create a rollercoaster of Madge Madness. He bends the original narratives of famous Madonna tracks in order to tell a story of fame, love, enlightenment and the divinity of music. The MegaMix took three days to complete. No additional samples were used other than Madonna songs. The 38 tracks used are: Vogue, Music, Erotica, Burning Up, American Life, Material Girl, Nothing Fails, Lucky Star, Deeper and Deeper, Express Yourself, Heartbeat, Into the Groove, Papa Don't Preach, Die Another Day, Bye Bye Baby, Bedtime Story, 4 Minutes, Nobody Knows Me, Nothing Really Matters, Don't Tell Me, Frozen, Jump, Holiday, Hanky Panky, Open Your Heart, Hollywood, Everybody, Power of Goodbye, Beautiful Stranger, Ray of Light, Crazy For You, Cherish, Where's The Party, Rain, Hung Up, Like a Prayer, Borderline, Live To Tell. Cover Art was fan-made.Original can be found here: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/madonna/images/18566540/title/madonna-celebration-cover-album-art-fanart [Note from Haus of Glitch: " I've been studying sacred geometry, and if you're an egghead like me, you might find some of this interesting. The megamix was composed on the basis of "3." (It's not an accident that it's 3:33 long.) I composed in 3 section. Section A was from the beginning through "Open Your Heart." Section B includes from "Music/Papa" to "Everybody." And Section C is from "Ray of Light" to the end. And within each of those sections, there are 3 sub-sections. The entire megamix is 106.5 measures long, meaning that the Phi Moment should arrive at 65.82 measures in. This occurs as we transition from Section B to Section C and "Ray of Light" begins playing. Now if you examine Section C by itself, it's 42.5 measures long. This means the Phi Moment of Section C should be the 91st measure, at exactly 3 minutes in. This is the moment in the song when I have the most samples playing at once:

Spanish painter Antonio De Felipe has re-worked and revisited with his irony some of pop history's most iconic album covers.

Madonna and her True Blue album cover couldn't be missed in this series of paintings titled Lpop that will be on show from May 29 2011 at the Centro Cultural Casa de Vacas in Madrid, Spain.

All the pop covers are been revisited adding themes or characters from comics or cartoons. In Madonna's case... it seems the ultimate vamp has been "vampirized"

James D’Arcy danced for Madonna

James D’Arcy has told how he learnt to dance for Madonna as he found her such an inspiring director.

The young actor plays Edward VIII in the singer’s directorial debut WE, about the king’s abdication over his relationship with Wallis Simpson.

James said: “There was a dance sequence that when I first saw it was like something out of Dancing With The Stars it was amazing – and I can’t dance.”

He added: “It was this extraordinary beautiful dance with lifts and twirls and I can’t do that, but you do because she somehow makes the impossible possible and it gives you amazing self esteem when you do these things.

“There’s nothing quite as good – to get a pat on the head for dancing from Madonna – that’s a pretty good feeling.”

The dance scene never made the final cut of the film, co-starring Andrea Riseborough, but he learned plenty of other skills for Madonna.

James said: “She challenged me to learn to play the bagpipes in six weeks, which is next to impossible I was told, but I did manage to do it because you feel like there’s no other way, you’ve just got to do it.

“I can ride horses already but I was in pretty good physical shape for that film and that was again at her request.

“I know that obviously her fame comes through a slightly different art form but she was more prepared than any director I have ever worked with, possibly with the exception of Peter Weir, but I mention her in the same sentence, that’s how prepared she was, she was extraordinary.”

Lindsey Wixson Once Played Musical Chairs With Madonna

Lindsey Wixson may be one of the modeling world’s biggest faces, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t get star struck. In an interview with Vogue UK, the 17-year-old rising star spills the beans about the most memorable experience of her career, why she fell so many times on the Fashion for Relief runway, and how her high school friends are, honestly, kind of a bunch of jerks.
Wixson sounds like she spent her high school years (like most of us, really) starring in her own personal version of Mean Girls.
'I was actually always really self-conscious about my gap (in her front teeth). In middle school, this group of girls were always trying to beat me up – they called my gap a parking lot. It was a really awkward time. I remember first mentioning to the girls I used to sit next to at lunch that I was looking for a model agent, and then the next week they came in with a list of things they didn’t like about me. I felt skinny and tall – it was the worst time of my life. But I don’t feel like that anymore. Modelling has really helped build my confidence.'
See, the good thing about being a supermodel is that when girls make fun of your teeth, you can airily tell them about the time you played musical chairs with Madonna.
'When I was shooting the Miu Miu campaign, Madonna turned up. She was supposed to be having dinner with the photographers Mert and Marcus, but they were busy shooting us, so she just had to wait. We started making the accompanying video and then Madonna stood up and said to us ‘I want to see if you girls can dance’. So we started playing Musical Chairs, with her counting the beats. She said, ‘It doesn’t matter if you’re out of time, just stay in character’. It was a brief meeting but pretty special.'
And as for the series of tumbles she took last week, Wixson told the British glossy, 'I’m over it all already. It was a mixture of the dress being too long and me walking too fast. I think I hadn’t had enough water, I was maybe a bit dehydrated.'

Madonna : Take A Bow
“MADONNA HAS SO MUCH INFLUENCE in every sphere. I think she could kill people just by looking at them.”

We walked by the paparazzi step-and-repeat and down a blue carpet in MoMA’s sculpture garden, passing male models who held umbrellas for guests in case of rain.

She has a lot of restraint, I suggested.

“She’s the only person that would make me pass out if I met them.”

Then: “Madonna, I’d like you to meet Ryan Trecartin! He’s a fabulous artist.”

Ryan Trecartin did not in fact pass out when Klaus Biesenbach introduced him to Madonna, though neither of us was able to muster any words for the occasion. She didn’t have much to say either. She just looked up at us dubiously (murderously?), her weapon eyes framed by black hipster glasses as she chewed on a piece of bread. (LOOKING GOOD! Perez Hilton e-scrawled on the shot-from-the-hip photo he posted the next day.)

Madonna sat next to James Franco, who sat next to Marina Abramovi?, who sat next to Terence Koh, who sat next to Lizzie Fitch at a small table that also included Trecartin, Spike Jonze, Guy Oseary, Daphne Guinness, Martha Wainwright, and professional crier Laurel Nakadate.

I sat at the next table, squeezed between MoMA PS1 curator Peter Eleey and Humberto Leon, dapper proprietor of Opening Ceremony. “The art world is the big tent,” a friend observed. “These kinds of meetings couldn’t be orchestrated anywhere else—or certainly not at this speed. People come into our world, but we don’t really send people out. Except maybe Kathryn Bigelow.”

The reason for Monday’s small gala dinner, announced only days before and coming less than two weeks after MoMA’s Party in the Garden, was ostensibly to celebrate a partnership between MoMA and Volkswagen (which is sponsoring some education programs, the current Francis Alÿs exhibition, and another show down the line). But why Madonna? “She’s here to see Hahn-Bin,” someone shrugged.

Hahn-Bin is the twenty-two-year-old Itzhak Perlman protégé currently in the custody of Biesenbach and surrogate of cool Brian Phillips. Wearing leather wedge-heeled boots, leopard-print tights, and a sleeveless black kaftan and white turban, Hahn-Bin did a spellbinding, virtuosic rendition of Ravel’s Tzigane, climbing atop the grand piano in the center of the atrium and swinging his bow into the air. The world’s number one Heather stood up from her seat and watched intently, arms folded, occasionally smiling and nodding her head to the ostinatti. After Hahn-Bin finished, Biesenbach swooped in, grabbed a chair, and sat him next to her. They enjoyed a public/private tête-à-tête, then hugged. She left almost immediately after.

“She was so nice!” Hahn-Bin said. “She said she’d call me. We have a lot in common. We’re both Leos.”

“There are two people in the art world who really mediate the worlds of art and celebrity: Jeffrey Deitch and Klaus,” suggested another guest. “The difference is that Klaus is actually one of them—he’s a celebrity.” A stranger in a strange land, he descends from Hollywood to spread the happy truth of fame.

Abramovi? and Koh climbed a podium on one side of the room and commenced a brief history of the use of Volkswagens in art. Works flashed on the atrium’s walls: Alÿs’s Rehearsal, Pipilotti Rist’s Ever Is Over All, Damián Ortega’s Cosmic Thing. Abramovi? played the straight man, announcing titles and such, while Koh spoke in gibberish, parroting/parodying his own performance, Art History, a Lecture: 1642–2009. When a photo from Chris Burden’s Trans-Fixed appeared, with the artist nailed, Christlike, to his vintage VW Beetle, the executives and artists and sundry icons of culture laughed and clapped in winking unison. All at once art and the market, the marketing of art, swirled in a transfixing, stupefying mix.

Lady Gaga was interviewed by Stephen Fry for FT Weekend and was asked about being compared to Madonna:

'I genuinely love her so much. I think she is so amazing. She could never be replicated and, yes, I’m Italian, I’m from New York, and not for nothing, it’s not my fault that I kind of look like her, right? So, look, if anything, it’s more annoying to me that people would insinuate that I don’t like to be compared to her....She’s wonderful and inspiring and liberating, and she’s certainly inspired my album, as did David Bowie, as did Prince, as did Michael Jackson, as did Grace Jones, and I would never take that away.'

Dolly Parton wants Madonna Duet

The country legend has always wanted to work with the ‘Like a Prayer’ singer, and thinks their styles would be a good match.

She told The Sunday Times newspaper: “I’d love to do a duet, I always wanted to work with Madonna, but she never asked.”

She added that either Madonna or Lady Gaga would be: “The perfect fit. I’m as outrageous as they are. I was gaudy before they were gaudy.”

Steve Sidelynk talks about Madonna

Here's a few bits from his latest interview.
How do you approach the Madonna gig?

With Madonna you play what’s required and that is very technology-based. I think the first tour I did with her, The Drowned World Tour, she didn’t even want any cymbals. It was really difficult, trying to follow in the footsteps of Jonathan Moffett and Omar Hakim, who is one of my favourite drummers. They were two big drummers to follow, but her music had progressed in a different way. At that point I was doing what she wanted.

Did you find the jump from the gig you did before to Madonna was quite a big jump for you?

Yeah, it was huge.

Were there any issues with that, for you personally?

Personally, yeah, because I’m from Bradford. I went and watched the Weather Report at Hammersmith Odeon and watching the rapport with Victor Bailey and Omar I can honestly say it was probably one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen in my life. His technique, his vibe, he was a monster – and that was a life-changing gig for me. Watching that, and then having to fill those shoes on any level, can feel a bit mind-boggling. I was practising lots. I think I made myself ill, I was over-compensating. I tried to cover all my bases but it just seemed to all work out, because what she wanted was what was on the record and the promo tour we were doing was music from that Music album and that was pretty mad because I sampled all the sounds into my Akai and then put them into the D-Drum which I was using, and have used on every Madonna tour since then, and I was playing all the stabs and all the rhythms. I was playing the record. That’s what she wanted. It was like I was going back to using what I’d learnt filling in as a percussionist. I was like a painter painting with a different pallet, but trying to colour it all so it all made sense and just play it in time. And I have been doing that gig for eight years.

What do you think you bring to the situation?

I play what’s on the record, what’s required, but not robotically. Everything changes in live scenarios. You’ve got a lot of input, a lot of freedom, but you’ve got it within certain parameters, so it requires a lot of discipline. You’ve got to play it solidly. You can’t play it rough and you can’t do grace notes, you can on some tracks, but you’ve got to be able to know what’s the right thing for each song and artist.

?

How involved is Madonna?

We rehearse for three months for a tour and she’s there. Not only that but she plays drums. She started off as a drummer in a band. So the whole rhythm is important to her – the dance, the lights. Everything’s cued from the drums, so you better play the arrangement as is.

There was one tune we were doing, called Hanky Panky, it’s a bit of a big band number, Jeff Porcaro played on the record. We were playing it and I did a couple of fills that were different. The next day in sound check she goes ‘you were getting a bit creative last night weren’t you?’ and I swear she was dancing, she was being thrown in the air, but she still noticed what was going on in the drums and that’s how much discipline you’ve got to have.

Someone like Madonna, she’s at the top of her tree, she’s been around a long time. She could pack up tomorrow and it wouldn’t bother her, but she’s still out there pushing the boundaries. Do she help you progress to another level?

I would say you have to, as far as her music progresses, you’ve got to progress with it. She wants an answer straight away or you’ve got to give her a solution. So even if you can’t physically come up with it playing wise or sound-wise, if you say ”OK I’ll do it for you later or it’ll be ready tomorrow, I just need to prepare that”, it”s good. She just needs answers. It’s a totally different way of working to someone like Richard Ashcroft where it’s really organic and you go in and it can change. Her thing’s all about discipline.

''Be yourself no matter what other people say''

"I love Madonna. I often call her my "mother" because she is such an inspiration for me when it comes to my music, lyrics and image. She taught me to be ballsy, brave and most of all - be myself no matter what other people say."

Polish rising singer Madox, explaining how he's been inspired by Madonna, Lady Gaga and Mylene Farmer while creating his first video released last month.

"I would love to meet her someday and thank for everything she did for young artist around the world, including me. As for now all I can do is to pay her a homage and I actually did that in my video for High On You single where you can see a couple of references to some of my favourites videos from her like Human Nature or Justify My Love. Hopefully momma Madonna would be proud seeing that!"

Is Madonna planning a tour stop in Australia?

Is the groundwork being laid for an Australian tour next year by the queen of pop, Madonna?.
According to sources, preliminary work has started on a potential tour and confidential feelers have been put out regarding accommodation and venue availability.
But approached about the possibility of Madonna heading Down Under, promoter Live Nation yesterday offered a polite but firm 'no comment'.
The singer has a massive global deal with Live Nation, which looks after all her tours.
Plans for Madonna to undertake an Australian tour in January 2009 were scrapped because of the global financial crisis. She last visited in 1993, and has bypassed Australia with each subsequent world tour.

Boy George FINALLY says something good about Madonna
In an interview with British paper The Daily Mail singer Boy George says:

“I wish I’d done all this 20 years ago. I wish I’d gone running with Madonna when she asked me 20 years ago. I used to say, ‘I only run when people chase me.’ But I get it now. I wanted to give up all the self-medicating things I was doing. I remember saying, ‘I won’t be like this at 40.’ But I was. In fact, it got worse.”

Gaultier talks Madonna

HL: You continue to work with some of the most exciting musicians in the industry, from Madonna to Kylie Minogue to Lady Gaga. Are there any other contemporary pop stars you have your eye on?
JPG: I have had the privilege to have worked with those that I admire, whether it be Madonna [in music] or Pedro Almodóvar in the cinema. I don’t know, there are interesting people out there, but they have to want to work with me.

HL: Tell us about your working relationship with Madonna in the 80s and 90s. Where did the idea for that infamous cone bra come from?
JPG: The first time I saw Madonna was on Top of the Pops. She was singing “Holiday,” and she had a fabulous look. (I actually thought that she was English because she was so stylish.) She was into the same things that I was doing at the time, like crosses, oversized jewelry, and fishnets. The second time I saw her live was at the first MTV awards in New York at Radio City Music Hall. It must have been 1984. She sang “Like A Virgin” in a wedding dress and was simulating “self contentment” or “self satisfaction,” to put it euphemistically. The audience was mostly business people, who were horrified. There were just a few young fans–and me, who absolutely loved it. That is when I realized that she couldn’t care less what others thought of her, and I also saw how powerful she was. I was a real fan of Madonna – I loved her music as well as her “personage”. I loved her being the director of her own appearance.
When I saw her first concert in Paris (Who's That Girl Tour), I said to myself that she should have asked me to do the costumes. I thought that I would have done them better. So, two years later, when my PR told me just before a prêt-a-porter show that I had to call Madonna, I thought that someone was playing a joke on me. But three days later, I asked if it was true and, to check, I called the number I was given. And it was her in person. She answered, “Hi, Gaultier.” Blonde Ambition tour was a real collaboration, friendship, and complicity. She was frightened of nothing, and our vision was in complete harmony and symbiosis.

I've found her rock videos deliciously disturbing and entertaining. She is a brave and interesting woman. Also she's a Catholic artist, and Catholic themes run through her work. I like that".

Madonna voted The Queen Of Pop at RollingStone.com

Rolling Stone’s Readers Poll: The Queen of Pop

Last week we did some serious number crunching and created the Rolling Stone Queen Of Pop Index – a ranking of the current top 16 female pop recording artists. To be as up-to-date as possible, we only examined data from the last two years – which excluded all artists that hadn’t work in that time period. Needless to say, this pissed off some fan communities. Madonna fans were particularly enraged, even though her last album was released in early 2008 and she’s been off the road since the summer of 2009. One particularly nutty critic even accused of taking bribes from Lady Gaga. Well, I’m still waiting for my check. (Hey Gaga, make it out to “cash” this time. We can’t have a paper trail.)
With all the fan feedback, we decided to poll our readers so they could name their own queen of pop. Here are the results.

1. Madonna
To say that Madonna won this poll in a landslide would be like saying that she was a kind of popular pop singer in the 1980s. It wouldn’t even begin to explain the scope of the situation. She received five times as many votes as Lady Gaga, who landed in second place by a very comfortable margin. The only persistent criticism that Gaga has dealt with in recent years is that she’s too much like Madonna. It’s a hard shadow to escape. Madonna is a musical icon without peer. Her run of hits over the past 30 years is simply astounding, and when she hits the road, tickets sell like it’s a Led Zeppelin reunion tour. Sure, her last few albums didn’t match up to the classics. Nobody cares. She’s Madonna. Lady Gaga has accomplished more in recent years than any artist of her era, but she’s still got a long climb until she reaches Madonna level. It’s very likely that no other artist will ever reach it though. Her manager Guy Oseary recently tweeted that she’s started recording her 13th studio album, so clearly she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

2. Lady Gaga
3. Britney Spears
4. Tina Turner
5. Beyoncé
6. Aretha Franklin
7. Katy Perry
8. Cher
9. Elton John
10. Mariah Carey

Morrissey talks Madonna and Gaga

What is your take on what’s happening in the music world today? There are dramatic figures like Lady Gaga reigning in pop music, but do you think it’s anything new or different from what you’ve seen throughout your tenure in this world?

I say without bitterness that it is nothing new. I like the idea of women who are in full control, but I am tired of seeing singers who cannot deliver a song without the aide of seven hundred and fifty frenzied dancers assuming the erotic. It is actually fraudulent, and the exact opposite of erotic. Edith Piaf was seven inches high, always wore a modest black dress, and sang without stage sets or lights, and her voice roared above the wind, with the most incredible powers of communication. I’d like to see McDonna [Madonna] attempt that.

When asked about her inspirations, Rihanna told We Love Pop: “I think that Madonna was a great inspiration for me, especially on my earlier work.”

She added: “If I had to examine her evolution through time, I think she reinvented her clothing style and music with success every single time.

“And at the same time remained a real force in entertainment in the whole world.”

Madonna’s Express Yourself on Time’s 30 All-Time Best Music Videos list

Madonna has always been a keen student of pop-culture history, and her creative powers were probably at their peak in the late 1980s on the album Like a Prayer. But while the title track generated the most controversy, the multimillion-dollar video for “Express Yourself” generated the most praise. Shamelessly ripping off the 1920s Fritz Lang classic Metropolis (the epigraph of the clip — “Without the heart, there can be no understanding between the hand and the mind” — paraphrases a recurring mantra of the movie), a young director by the name of David Fincher expressed himself by harnessing all of Madge’s signature leitmotifs (the blond hair! her outfits! naked men! a running metaphor to do with a cat!). The video is as powerful to watch as the star herself.

Madonna fan denies energy drink theft

A Madonna fan has denied breaking into her house and stealing energy drinks.

Grzegorz Matlok, 30, pleaded not guilty to three counts of burglary for allegedly breaking into the ‘Holiday’ singer’s £10 million 10-bedroom mansion in Marylebone, London, and taking a can of Red Bull energy drink.

A court heard yesterday (03.08.11) how Matlok allegedly used a rope to climb to the balcony of the Georgian townhouse, broke in through a window, then entered the two next-door properties owned by the singer, who was in the US at the time of the incident.

Matlok was arrested on March 12, after being wrestled to the ground by bodyguards at the 52-year-old star’s home after being found clutching several of her possessions.

A senior police source said at the time: “Something dreadful has happened here. The security around the world’s most famous pop star should be impregnable.”

Grzegorz was subsequently declared unfit for trial and sent for mental evaluation. Yesterday a judge remanded him in custody and fixed a trial date for September 12.

At the time of the break-in, Madonna – who has four children, Lourdes, 14, Rocco, 10, Mercy, six, and five-year-old David – was in Bay City, Michigan, paying her respects to her late 99-year-old grandmother, Elsie Mae Fortin, who had helped raise the singer and her five siblings after their mother died of breast cancer

Antonio Banderas was 'afraid' of Madonna's attentions

Antonio Banderas was terrified after finding out Madonna had him set in her sights, and refused to date the pop superstar because she was too 'powerful'.
The Material Girl famously flaunted her crush on the Spanish hunk in her outrageous 1991 documentary In Bed With Madonna, which saw her flirt with a shy Banderas at a party in Spain.
The actor admits he was a nervous wreck in Madonna's presence - because he couldn't speak English and didn't know how to fend her off.
He tells Harper's Bazaar, 'I couldn't speak English at the time. She said a lot of things at the table when we were having dinner - I couldn't understand s**t. I was just flipping out that I was sitting down close to Madonna. She was very famous already, and we were just local people.'
'It was kind of flattering when somebody said, 'She likes you, a lot.' I said, 'Oh, really? I've no idea what I should do about this. I mean, I'm married (to first wife, Ana Leza).' So, nothing happened.'
'I was afraid of it at the time, because she was a very powerful woman. I didn't want to be Madonna's boy. For good or for bad, I just wanted to have my own career.'
The pair went on to star in the 1996 movie musical Evita together.

Madonna and others Campaign for Africa

A-list stars like Madonna, Lady GaGa, Justin Bieber and Eminem have joined hands to support Save the Children’s “I’m Gonna Be Your Friend” campaign. Using their social media power, they aim to raise funds and awareness for the drought, medicine and food crisis in East Africa.

The campaign is kicked off on Tuesday, August 9 with the celebrities taking to their Twitter or Facebook pages to raise awareness. Britney Spears was among the early ones, tweeting “Just got @BobMarley’s “High Tide or Low Tide” – proceeds go to children in #EastAfrica. U all can help #beafriend -Brit”.

Bob Marley’s tune was personally chosen by his family to accompany a Kevin Macdonald-directed short movie about the appalling condition in Africa. The singer’s widow Rita said, “Not one child should be denied food nor water. Not one child should suffer. Along with Save the Children, we must stand up together as friends to put a stop to this, to feed our children and to save their lives.”

The video would be sold digitally with all proceeds going to Save the Children. The celebrities will continue raising the awareness until they have an audience of 700 million.

Andy Butler talks Madonna

…that rebellious spirit stuck, and Butler remains active on the vanguard of gay politics. But of the music of a certain other gay rights advocate, he says: “What is the first thing to come out of a baby’s mouth? ‘Gaga.’ And what is it but children’s music? It’s middle-aged gay men dancing around to music for 11-year-old girls.” Madonna, he says, had more about her, but he thinks she’s lost touch a bit herself. His advice? “She needs to make an age-appropriate record that still appeals to young people. There should be no rapping on it. She should acknowledge the people that grew up with her, but she needs to hook them back in. Deep house is having a revival. Why doesn’t she do a deep-house track? But a sophisticated, subtle deep-house track. I could help her with that.”

Billboard: Best MTV VMA Performances - Results

In celebration of the 2011 MTV VMA's, Billboard.com recently asked it's readers to vote what they thought were the best VMA performances of all time.

Well, the results have now been published. To the surprise of no one the Queen of Pop 'Madonna' has two of her performances rank in the top 10!

First was her 1990 'Vogue' performance that came in #6:
'Talk about a cultural mashup: Madonna and co., clad in 18th century Marie Antoinette garb, taught the world how to Vogue, a performance style popularized in underground gay dance clubs of the '80s. Cue in one incredibly animated pants-less dancer, and VMA magic is made.'

Next was the 2003 Madonna 20th Anniversary performance, that came in at #4:
'The Madonna-Britney kiss! Could we talk about anything else the day after the 2003 VMAs? And poor Christina, the camera cutting away as her and Madge lip-locked. The memorable medley kicked off with Britney and Christina Aguilera paying homage to Madonna's infamous 'Like a Virgin' performance at the 1984 VMAs, topped off with Madonna - dressed as a groom - performing 'Hollywood.' Rumour: Madonna Offered $300K To Partner With Cougar Dating Website

RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned the Material Girl has been offered $300,000 from the dating website, CougarLife.com, to record a song and accompanying video for their site.

The website touts itself as specializing in setting-up older women, typically nicknamed cougars, “with the cubs that love them.”

In the offer letter sent out to Madonna’s rep on behalf of Cougar Life President Claudia Opdenkelder, they state: “To us, Madonna is without a doubt the queen of Cougars, and therefore, we at CougarLife are extremely interested in exploring a unique partnership with you.”

The letter also states that if Madonna’s “CougarLife Song” should enter the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart she will receive a $200,000 bonus and if the video gets 100,000,000 hits she’ll bag an extra $500,000.

“She [Madonna] would also agree to perform the CougarLife Song at no less than one major award show in the 2012 calendar year,” the letter says, noting that the single must be released prior to Valentine’s Day 2012.

Mel C chooses her top ten female performers

Singer and former Spice Girl Mel C picks her most inspiring singers - and Madonna is included in her top ten:

I go way back with Madonna. I remember being embarrassed by the lyrics to Like A Virgin as a child, but I was secretly blown away. She’s the artist who made me want to be a pop star, and as a kid I learnt all the songs and routines. She’s a performer who really pushed the boundaries.
People compare Lady Gaga to Madonna, but while I have a lot of respect for Lady Gaga, Madonna did all the groundwork for artists like her. She’s completely in control of her career, has an amazing work ethic and pays real attention to every aspect of her image.
Her videos have always been spectacular; her shows are massive events. I’ve seen her several times – the first was The Girlie Show in 1993. That was a really breathtaking show. If I had to pick one of her albums it would be Ray Of Light.

Liza Minnelli on Madonna and Gaga:
??As for Madonna?.?.?.?‘I think she’s terrific. When I’m chatting to her, she’s just normal, the opposite of grand. We’ll meet in a restaurant with friends. Or hang out at a party. She’s always interesting and interested. She’s smart as hell and keeps her eyes peeled. She misses nothing.’
She adds: ‘Gaga and Madonna have realised the value of shock. But why not? You need to do anything you can in this business to get noticed. And they’ve both done it brilliantly. ‘In a way, I started that with the Sally Bowles look, the cropped black hair, the lashes. It was a look that became important. It went round the world.’

Postal Service to put living Americans on stamps
Could Bruce Springsteen bail out the U.S. Postal Service? How about Oprah? Is the twisted allure of using Madonna to send out your Progress Energy bill enough for you to ditch online banking and bust it old school?
In a move to stave off financial woes and death-watch buzz, the U.S. Postal Service on Monday announced that, for the first time, living Americans will be eligible to have their proud visages smacked on stamps.
Surely you remember stamps: tiny, sticky, square-y. Before we all filed our taxes electronically and wrote love letters with our thumbs, we used to do things the old-fashioned way. You know, mail stuff.
Originally, someone would have to be dead 25 years before they were considered for grand stampitude. The Postal Service eventually dropped that time limit to 10 years and then, in January 2007, to five years.
Now, in hopes of reviving business - the USPS lost $2.2 billion in the second quarter of this fiscal year - select famous folks will enjoy their postage prestige while they can still hear people complain about the choice.
'The main criterion (for the honor) is outstanding contribution to the U.S.,' says Stephen Kearney, executive director of stamp services for the Postal Service.
'We tried not to limit it up front,' he adds, 'although it is unlikely we would consider any politician currently serving in office or running for office.'
So President Barack Obama is out, and probably Sarah Palin, too. You have to be American. So bye-bye, Canada's Justin Bieber.
Such luminaries as Michael Jordan, Ellen DeGeneres and Rush Limbaugh, as well as the Boss, Oprah and the Material Girl, have been suggested on the USPS Stamps Facebook page.
The Postal Service gets 40,000 suggestions for stamp honors every year; typically 50 finalists are selected, with the ultimate vote going to the postmaster general. Postal officials aren't sure how this gambit will pan out, but they're excited about the reaction.
'It's not that there aren't enough deceased people to honor,' laughs Kearney. 'We're just hoping to be more timely, relevant and meaningful.'

5 History Making Music Videos: Like A Virgin / Material Girl

Madonna
“Like a Virgin” (1984)
“Material Girl” (1985)
A lion and a junket to Italy made her the first true video star.

Les Garland, MTV VP of Programming: Freddy DeMann had managed the Jacksons and Michael, but he got fired by the dad, Joe Jackson. One afternoon, Freddy phoned and said, “I got one that’s gonna be huge. She’s gonna be bigger than Michael.” I go, “Dude, you’ve got big balls.” “Trust me, Gar. Her name is Madonna.”

Susan Silverman, Warner Bros. Exec: Madonna came into our office on a skateboard, all sweaty and dirty. She went to see Bob Regehr—a big product manager at Warner Bros.—and left a note on his bulletin board that said, “Sorry I missed you, because I’m gonna be a star.”

Mary Lambert, Director: Ayeroff[then a Warner Bros. exec.] wanted to position her with a little more integrity and depth. He gave me the song “Borderline” and bought me a plane ticket to New York to go meet her. When I heard her music, I thought she was black. She was living in a bare-bones apartment on the Upper East Side. It didn’t look like anyone lived there, to tell you the truth. There wasn’t any furniture. But we hit it off. She had four or five different boyfriends at the time. We talked for a couple of days about “Borderline.” She was really into Hispanic boys, and she wanted the video to be about having an affair with a cute Hispanic boy who was part of the street scene.

Ayeroff: MTV jumped on “Borderline,” and that was it. Away we go.
Lambert: For “Like a Virgin,” Ayeroff said, “We want to do something outrageous.” I said, “Let’s do it in Venice!” The idea of Madonna singing in a gondola was the most outrageous thing I could think of.

Ayeroff: By that point, Madonna was on the cover of Rolling Stone. So we went to Venice, like a bunch of f***ing wack jobs. I don’t know what we spent—$175,000?—but it was way more than we’d ever spent on a video.

Lambert: There’s this famous carnival in Venice where everyone wears masks. Madonna’s love interest in the video wore a lion mask, and that gave me the idea to get a real lion. I wanted to have the guy in the lion mask turn into an actual lion.

Simon Fields, Video Producer: The lion started to get crazy around Madonna. And then we found out that you can’t have a lion around a woman when she’s on her period.

Sharon Oreck, Video Producer: Madonna’s breasts are super-perky, so they tend to pop out when she dances. In the “Material Girl” video, she’s wearing a pink outfit, and I guess it didn’t have a bra, so whenever she’d go upside down or lay back with her arms in the air, one or two of her boobs would come out.I was on the set when she first met Sean Penn. She was in her Marilyn Monroe finery. We all knew they were going to fall in love and get married.

Freddy Demann: People often misunderstand the “Material Girl” video. The idea was that Madonna was a Marilyn Monroe–type actress playing the role of a gold digger—a “material girl”—in a musical, but off-camera she was a good person. She chooses the poor guy in the shitty car instead of the rich guy. But everyone assumed Madonna was identifying with the material girl. The title stuck to her, and that bothered her. She never liked that handle.

Inside the car, judging by her trashy/chic style, was what I thought to be someone resembling a hooker. She got off on my floor and went to the end of the hallway. I went the other way.”

“I went down to the studio to await her arrival. When Madonna walked in without any media handlers (which I loved), I nearly fell over: It’s the woman from the elevator!”

Nile Rodgers' Memoir Features Madonna's Early Diva Days

'Le Freak,' out this week, chronicles the Chic singer and mega-producer's rags-to-riches rise with colorful anecdotes about David Bowie, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and other stars of the time.
With his band Chic and later on his own, Nile Rodgers helped define the sound of the late 1970s and early 1980s. From songs like 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times,' which he co-wrote with longtime musical partner Bernard Edwards, to seminal albums by David Bowie (Let’s Dance), Madonna (Like A Virgin) and Diana Ross (Diana), all multi-platinum smashes he produced, few modern-day musicians can claim a professional past so storied, much of it experienced under the ever-present haze of drugs and alcohol.
Among the many recording studio anecdotes was one detailed recounting of Rodgers' time working with Madonna on her 1984 breakout album, Like A Virgin. 'Madonna's superintense let's-get-down-to-business attitude sometimes rubbed people the wrong way,' he writes. 'One day, Madonna's insult slinging went too far. Our assistant had the temerity to go to the bathroom, and she freaked out on him.... 'Where the f*** is he going?' she said loudly enough that he could clearly hear.
Unsatisfied, that she's made her point, she then let off a fusillade from her usual arsenal of one-liners: 'Time is money, and the money is mine.'' Rodgers confronted the would-be pop star and the argument turned so heated, he quit the record for what would turn out to be 'the shortest producer strike in history.'

Madonna distressed by stalker

Madonna has told a court of how she was left “alarmed and distressed” after a man broke into her London home.

In a statement, the singer said she feared for her children’s safety when Grzegorz Matlok, 30, managed to get into her house in March.

A judge ordered the Polish national to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital, as he posed a serious risk to the singer.

He is also banned from going within 100 metres of any of Madonna’s properties.

Mr Matlok broke into the singer’s house after smashing a window and using a rope and scaffolding to enter the property through a first floor window.

He was found to have rifled through Madonna’s bedclothes before stealing a can of Red Bull from the kitchen, where he was discovered by film director Nathan Rissman.

A map with a large “M” scrawled over Madonna’s home and a bag containing a safety knife, nail scissors, a coach ticket from Poland and Matlok’s passport were found in a bag outside the property.

Mr Matlock, who travelled to England from Poland three days prior to the incident, later told police that the singer had given him permission to stay at the property.

A year previously, he had sneaked into the Wiltshire estate Madonna used to share with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie and was caught putting on his clothes.

In her statement, Madonna said: “I do not know the defendant, I’ve not had any form of relationship with the defendant nor have I had any form of contact by phone or by email, or by any other way, with the defendant.

“In particular I’ve never given the defendant permission to enter the premises or any of my other premises.

“It is extremely unsettling to know that, despite the extensive security I have, he has been able to break into two of my residential properties.

“I’m worried about my children’s safety as well as the safety of my staff.”

The court heard that Mr Matlok suffered from “delusions that Madonna loved him” but, according to consultant psychiatrist Dr Nadji Kahtan, his schizophrenia could be controlled by medication.

In making her ruling at Southwark Crown Court, judge Deborah Taylor told Mr Matlok: “It is the view of the doctors’ that if you fail to take medication you pose a risk to Madonna Ciccone of real harm.”

Madonna: Women Want The 'Perfect' Man

Madonna wants to be 'swept off her feet' by the 'perfect' man.
The 53-year-old star - who has previously been married to Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie and is currently dating 24-year-old dancer Brahim Zaibat - believes women all have similar expectations about love, though she knows she is responsible for her own happiness.
She told Britain's Hello! magazin: 'We women still want what we've always wanted. So much has changed for us over the last few decades, in that we have the opportunity for better education, for many different kinds of jobs, for being independent in ourselves.'
'But we all still find ourselves wanting the same thing at the same time - to be swept off our feet by the perfect man.'
'We all think that perfect love is going to change our lives immensely. And of course love does change your life. But what we also have to understand is that happiness lies in our own hands, not someone else's.'
The 'Hung Up' hitmaker - whose directorial debut, 'W.E' is released in January - insists no one has ever given up their 'kingdom' for her but she wouldn't want anyone to make big sacrifices for her happiness.
She added: 'No one's ever given up their kingdom for me yet. And to tell you the truth, I wouldn't want them to.'
'When a man gives up his kingdom for you, then it's your job to make him feel like he's still a king for the rest of his life. That's a tall order.'

Danny Aiello had never heard of Madonna before he was asked to play her father in the songstress’s “Papa Don’t Preach” video.

So why did he do it? He was persuaded to be part of the mid-80s project by his daughter, who now can’t stand the singer

Danny Aiello on Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach Video

“You know, that came about in a very strange way,” Danny explains. “I had no idea who [Madonna] was, so I said to [daughter] Stacey in passing, ‘They want me to do this music video with this girl named Madonna.’She said, ‘Dad, Dad, you have to.’ I went back and said I’ll do it if my daughter is permitted on the set taking pictures with Madonna. … Madonna sort of backed up and told her representative that I don’t do that. My daughter has hated her ever since. … I’m a movie actor doing this piece of crap!”

Guy Ritchie On Madonna
DETAILS: You married Madonna when you were still a fledgling director and she was the most famous woman in the world. What was that adjustment like?
Guy Ritchie: I don’t know. By the way, I enjoyed my first marriage. It’s definitely not something I regret. The experience was ultimately very positive. I love the kids that came out of it, and I could see no other route to take. But you move on, don’t you? You’re right, I stepped into a soap opera, and I lived in it for quite a long period of my life. I’ll probably be more eloquent on it 10 years from now.

DETAILS: What did you learn from that marriage?
Guy Ritchie: When you end up with a lot of the things you set out to chase and find that you’ve stumbled into all sorts of hollow victories, then you become deeply philosophical. I’m quite happy that that experience was accelerated for me. I’m glad I made money, in other words. And I’m glad I got married.

Madonna on Men’s Health Sexiest Women of All Time List

#5 Madonna

It’s been a long time since the Material Girl was like a virgin. In fact, 30 years after she made her debut, Madonna—through more costume changes than a one-man stage production of Ben Hur—has captured the world’s heads, hearts, and hormones with startling consistency. She’s like a flip-book of fashion, gyration, and melody bonded by a Zeitgeist-defining compunction for incessant, provocative reinvention. It’s as impossible to imagine pop culture without Madonna as it is to guess what a light bulb would do without Benjamin Franklin. From shredded wedding dresses to cone-shaped bras, fascist military fatigues to, uh, absolutely nothing, being faithful to Madonna—who has sold some 300-million albums worldwide—is getting to love a million women at the same time, and that’s something we cherish.

From nypost.com :

JFK Jr. asked Madonna to pose as his mother: new book
By SUSANNAH CAHALAN

She was almost the First Lady Madonna.

John F. Kennedy Jr. asked the Material Girl to dress up as his mother for the cover of his magazine, George, but Madonna declined, insisting she would “never do [Jackie O] justice,” according to a new book.

“We’ll have her in a pillbox hat, sitting on a stack of books,” JFK Jr. told his assistant, RoseMarie Terenzio, author of the memoir, “Fairy Tale Interrupted,” which chronicles her five years as John John’s confidante and publicist until his untimely death in 1999 at the age of 38.

In the summer of 1996, JFK Jr. asked Terenzio who should grace the cover of his September “Women in Politics” issue.

IM-MADGE-INE THAT! Madonna wrote a letter turning down John Kennedy Jr.’s offer to pose as his mom for George magazine — an image that might have looked something like this. Madonna's letter :

John F. Kennedy Jr.
Terenzio suggested then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, but JFK Jr., who co-founded the magazine in 1995, had a different idea.

“I think we should dress Madonna up as my mother,” he said. “Wouldn’t that be a riot?”

Terenzio thought he was joking; Madonna was then at the height of her bad-girl image.

She warned him it would create a media “s--tstorm.”

And although Terenzio insists it wasn’t among her concerns, the cover would have undoubtedly raised eyebrows given JFK Jr.’s once-rumored romance with Madge, who was often compared to his father’s reputed paramour, Marilyn Monroe.

“If it doesn’t bother me, why should it bother anyone else?” Kennedy said.

So they drafted a letter to the “Like a Virgin” singer, asking her to pose as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The next day, Madonna faxed her handwritten response, flirtatiously addressed to “Johnny Boy.”

“My eyebrows aren’t thick enough, for one,” she offered.

“When you want me to portray Eva Braun or Pamela Harriman, I might say yes!” she wrote, referring, bizarrely, to Hitler’s mistress and the British socialite who married New York Gov. W. Averell Harriman and Winston Churchill’s son Randolph.

JFK Jr. eventually tapped actress Drew Barrymore for the cover, portraying, ironically, Monroe in her legendary white halter dress singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”

Terenzio, whose book is due out on Jan. 24, says there was nothing untoward at the time of the fax between the Material Girl and the heir to Camelot.

In fact, later that month, JFK Jr. married his longtime girlfriend, Carolyn Bessette.

The Material Girl reigns supreme

What do Madonna, the Bee Gees, Chaka Khan, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Bananarama, Chaka Khan, Chesney Hawkes, Kylie Minogue and Madonna have in common? They all feature in the top ten classic party tunes according to a recent poll, that's what.

Madonna is at number one with upbeat 1983 synth-fest Holiday, followed in second place by... Madonna with Hung Up and, in third, Into the Groove by - yep, that's right - Madonna.

Having claimed the top three spots, the Material Girl makes way for the Bee Gees with Stayin Alive, Chaka Khan - popping up twice with Aint Nobody and Im Every Woman and Michael Jackson with Billie Jean.

Bananarama's cover of Venus, and Kylie Minogue's Cant Get You Out of My Head also make the list - and what party would be complete without the One and Only Chesney Hawkes.

Ten more tracks - featuring artists ranging from Britney Spears to Shania Twain, Queen to Abba feature in the top twenty, as decided by Magic 105.4's online survey to find the worlds greatest party classics.

From DrownedMadonna.com :

Madonna furious with her Staff for all the leaks

According to The Sun, Madonna is conducting her own Sherlock Holmes-style investigation into a costly "leak" in her camp. Some of her associates are under the spotlight for flogging music, video footage and sensitive pictures behind her back. It all kicked off before Christmas, when a Spanish super-fan was arrested for leaking the demo version of Gimme All Your Luvin. "Her camp were aware of the Spanish character because he was an annoying super-fan," A source told The Sun. "They were on to him for actively leaking and selling new and old unreleased tracks online."

But now that he has been arrested "there's a much bigger picture," adds The Sun. "The source of these leaks comes from within Madonna's camp. Single tracks have been exchanging hands for well over $1,000. Hundreds of hours of Madonna footage have been obtained illegally for tens of thousand of dollars."

The UK newspaper writes that "it would have to be someone close to get access to that kind of material. It's clear a serious betrayal has been going on."
Hundreds of unflattering, un-Photoshopped pics of her also leaked in the last year. The source added: "It is all part of the same deal made by a few unscrupulous characters to line their pockets."

Madonna Mia!

Madonna looks set to follow in the footsteps of Abba and Queen by allowing a musical featuring her hit songs to hit the stage.
The Material Girl is open to having her songs written into a theatre story, but has no plans to be directly involved in any potential project.

She tells Britain's Daily Star, "I'd sanction my songs to be made into a musical, I kind of already have. But I wouldn't do it myself, I don't think that would interest me."

Abba's hits are the basis for the Mamma Mia! musical, which was made into a film in 2008, while Queen's tracks have been performed all over the world in stage show We Will Rock You.

Madonna cares

Madonna halted the step-and-repeat at Tuesday’s red-carpet premiere of “W.E.” at the Ziegfeld to lean over the velvet rope and check in on celebrity photographer and WireImage co-founder Kevin Mazur, who suffered a broken wrist and foot and a hematoma in his neck from a near-fatal November car accident in the Hamptons. “She came over and gave me a kiss hello and asked me how I was doing,” Mazur told us of the “W.E.” director, who also sent him flowers. “It was driving all of the photographers nuts because all they wanted was for her to pose.” Mazur sent an e-mail to industry friends late last week with the subject, “We are Lucky to be Alive — Texting Kills,” which included details from a police report describing how the 22-year-old woman who died after colliding head-on with the Escalade carrying him and his wife Jennifer was drunk and texting at the wheel at 2:30 a.m. “My plea is to please stop texting while you drive,” Mazur, who’s still limping and has a cast on his wrist, wrote. His wife suffered a broken eye socket and is still recovering. He closed the e-mail with, “I was the biggest [texting] offender before my accident.”

Madonna has real sense of an incredible aesthetic, says stylist

Madonna has a 'real sense of an incredible aesthetic', her stylist has suggested.
Arianne Phillips told Grazia that only fashion designer-turned-filmmaker Tom Ford shared the sensibility of the W.E. director.
'She and I have this creative language together because I've been working with her for the past 14 years,' Phillips said.
'I loved having her on the other side of the camera and being able to collaborate with her in that way. It wasn't that different because she's an idea person and she's always directed me anyway, in terms of everything we've done from album covers to photoshoots to the play in the West End.'
'We've worked in so many different disciplines and we have a real fluency in language so I feel like she's been directing me for years!'
She added: 'The only difference is that it's more objective with her behind the camera, she has a real sense of an incredible aesthetic. The only other experience I've had like this was working with Tom Ford on A Single Man.'
'Most directors don't know how to discuss the nuances of the fabric, colour and the silhouette, and the beauty of working with Tom and working with Madonna was the vernacular.'

I think they were Vogue (V), Into the Groove (ITG), Papa Don't Preach (PDP), Causing a Commotion (CAC), and Don't Cry for Me Argentina (DCFMA). Papa Don't Preach was the highest score and Causing a Commotion was the lowest with just 2 points! I got them all right, of course! biggrin.gif

Madonna on Time's Top 100 icons of all time list!

Madonna
1958–
There are performers, and then there are superstars. When Madonna (born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone in 1958) burst onto the music scene in the 1980s, she was not only openly welcomed into that exclusive latter set but essentially redefined what it meant to be famous in America. After struggling for years to make ends meet as a dancer, singer and model in New York City, Madonna finally caught her break when she was invited to perform “Holiday” on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in 1984. Clad in a torn black tee and a black skirt over cropped leggings — plus a whole lot of accessories — Madonna’s debut outfit was somewhat tame considering her future incarnations, but audiences were immediately enraptured by her striking spirit. Embraced early as a fashion idol — especially for the young generation — Madonna never ceased to amaze, nor has she ever lost control of her look or her career. From bridal gowns to cone bras and from sexy menswear to Asian inspirations, anything Madonna touched was emulated by her legions of fans around the world. While her musical career has taken a backseat to family in recent years, she stepped up her role in fashion by teaming up with 14-year-old daughter Lourdes in 2010 to create Material Girl, a juniors fashion line available at Macy’s. Now a new generation of girls who didn’t get a chance to fawn over the Queen of Pop’s every outfit can still mirror her style, if not her dance moves.

Pop Power List
Set to be unveiled in an upcoming show called Pop Powerlist, researchers have calculated the 50 most powerful people in pop music, devising an algorithm that considered an artist’s current assets including their wealth, social media fan base, alongside their salience (the degree to which they are in demand: measured by recent airplay, media and word-of-mouth buzz, commercial endorsements, awards and web search interest).
The Pop Powerlist series will air on Monday April 9 at 12.00 PM when the full top 50 will be revealed in a two-hour show on 4Music.
Here is the Top Ten, with Madonna at Number 4:

1. Adele
2. Jessie J
3. Rihanna
4. Madonna
5. Ed Sheeran

Baroness Ritchie of Brompton, who has died aged 66, was the stepmother of the film director Guy Ritchie and thus former stepmother-in-law to the pop diva Madonna; in Conservative circles, however, she was known as a formidable figure in local government and the force behind the Tory drive for more women MPs.

Shireen Ritchie, a former model, knew very little about the world’s most famous singer until the day when Guy Ritchie rang her up to ask whether he could come over for a bite to eat with a friend. She and her husband John had just come back from holiday and there was nothing in the fridge, so she nipped out to the supermarket and got a couple of packets of fishcakes and peas. When her stepson turned up with Madonna, she recalled that “I was rather embarrassed and said something like: 'Tell me dear, how did you get into the music business?’”

“I knew that she was supposed to be the Queen of Cool but I’d never heard her music. It’s really grown on me” she told an interviewer diplomatically.

During the media stakeout that preceded Guy Ritchie and Madonna’s wedding at Skibo castle in Sutherland in December 2000, reporters were camped outside the Ritchies’ door in Chelsea, the phone rang non-stop and, at one point, John Ritchie, who made his name in advertising with the Hamlet cigar series, cheerfully admitted that he did not have a suitable kilt for the big event. It turned into a story about him being on his uppers, which was very far from being the case.

None the less, Shireen Ritchie coped valiantly with the press hysteria and had a beady eye for elephant traps. She gave her full backing to the newly-married couple, even to the extent of attending a Madonna concert: “My ears were ringing by the end, but it was fantastic. The best bit was her song I Deserve It, which she dedicated to Guy — it brought a lump to my throat.” The two women were said to have found common ground when discussing children, and the Ritchies were said to enjoy babysitting when the celebrity couple were away on business. She was, Shireen Ritchie declared, a “groovy granny”. After the marriage broke down in 2008, she remained determinedly tight-lipped, refusing all requests for interviews.

Shireen Ritchie once observed that Madonna, known for her corsets and conical bras, was the ideal role model for female Conservative MPs, showing that “women have to go out and get what they want and be prepared to reinvent themselves”. Her own commitment to encouraging women to become involved in politics was a long one.

For years she supported the 300 Group, which aims to get more women into politics and public life, and in 2005 was one of the founders of Women2Win, which aims to increase the number of Conservative women MPs by providing support and training to women who wish to enter Parliament.

In 2006 the party’s new leader David Cameron appointed her to oversee the selection of candidates, including setting up a “priority list” with the aim of putting up women to fight at least 40 of the 140 seats required for the Tories to win the general election. She had to weather the scorn of more traditionally-minded Conservatives, but the 2010 election saw the number of Conservative women MPs increase from 17 to 49. After the election she became a working Conservative peer in the House of Lords.

Shireen Olive Folkard was born on June 22 1945. Her father was an Arabist (the name Shireen is Persian) in the Colonial Office, and her early years were spent in Yemen. At the age of seven she was sent to boarding school in “cold, grey England”, which she hated. When she was 10, her parents returned from Yemen and their marriage broke up. Divorce was unusual at the time; none of her friends’ parents were divorced and she recalled feeling almost ashamed. Later she discovered that her mother, whom she had believed to be adopted, was in fact her grandmother’s natural daughter, but not by her grandfather, and born two years before their marriage.

Good-looking and always immaculately dressed, Shireen became a model, helping to launch the Aviemore Ski Centre and modelling for Mary Quant and Zandra Rhodes. She also married John Williams, with whom she had a son, but the marriage broke up and soon afterwards she met John Ritchie, who was divorced from his first wife. After their marriage in 1982, Shireen gave up work and became stepmother to his children, Tabitha and Guy.

Her political career began in 1998, when she became a councillor on the Tory-run Kensington and Chelsea council in London, and the experience of her own family led her to join the council’s adoption panel. She became the leading member for social care and then for children’s services; sat on the board of the Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service; served as vice-president of the charity UK Youth; and was a commissioner for the London Child Poverty Commission.

She also headed the Back on Track advisory group, which examines ways to improve education for London children unable to attend mainstream school. She was deputy mayor of the council in 2008–09 and in 2009 was appointed to chair the children and young people board at the Local Government Association. She was president of the National Children’s Bureau from 2010.

As deputy chairman of the Kensington and Chelsea Conservative Association, Shireen Ritchie was one of the two “minders” who helped Michael Portillo when he was chosen to fight the seat at a by-election in 1999. In 2000 she was elected unopposed as the association’s chairman — the first woman to hold the post. She stepped down in 2004.

Shireen Ritchie is survived by her husband, by her son and by her two stepchildren.

Baroness Ritchie of Brompton, born June 22 1945, died April 24 2012

Shirley Manson on Madonna and the age issue
Garbage's Shirley Manson in a interview to Bullettmedia.com addresses the age issue and Madonna:
“The tabloids complain about her looking old, and people laugh at her for that. Then Madonna goes and fixes her face, and they laugh at her for that. Even though they begrudgingly say she looks amazing, they’ll still laugh at her for trying to look young.

Then she steps out, looking amazing, and the tabloids go and blow up a picture of her aging hand. Nobody’s doing that to George Clooney, blowing up pictures of his hands! I look at these magazines, and I want to say to them, What’s your point? That she’s aged? Does that surprise you? Or is your ‘point’ an attempt to undercut what she’s achieved?

I think it is, even if it’s on a subconscious level. And you probably wouldn’t turn down those hands if they were grabbing you under the table, you f***ing idiots.”

From the article by Kyle Anderson on EW.com:
In today’s media universe, there are two ways to get big. The first is to put your heart into your craft, work tirelessly toward promoting that art, and associate yourself with like-minded individuals who will help push and challenge you as you move forward.

Or you can just talk to a magazine and say some terrible things about people more famous than you. In a not-at-all-surprising turn of events, international superstar and electronic head piece enthusiast deadmau5 (real, less silly name: Joel Zimmerman) spent part of his interview in the new issue of Rolling Stone talking smack about Madonna and David Guetta.

For those of you who might not pay attention to the ramblings of a DJ, Zimmerman got upset a few months ago when Madonna made references to “molly” (slang for the active ingredient in ecstasy) at the Ultra Music Festival.
He took to Twitter to blast her, and apparently it still sticks in his craw. "That's like talking about slavery at a blues concert," Zimmerman told Rolling Stone magazine. He also referred to the Material Girl as a "funky grandma."
"If you’re gonna come into my world, at least do it with a little more dignity," he added.

He wasn’t done tearing down other people who have helped make his brand of music profitable and palpable for the pop masses. "David Guetta has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks," Zimmerman said. "Like, ‘Here’s one with Akon, check it out!’ Even Skrillex isn’t doing anything too technical. He has a laptop and a MIDI recorder, and he’s just playing his s-."
Making friends and influencing people - that’s the deadmau5 way!

What do you think of his attacks on Madonna, Guetta, and Skrillex? Does Madonna owe it to anybody, considering she was mainstreaming dance music well before Zimmerman knew what a crossfade was? And isn’t comparing getting high at a rave to slavery a pretty absurdly facile analogy? Actually, we’ll go ahead and answer that last one: Yes. Yes it is.

Thank You, Madonna, for Still Being Madonna
From the brilliant piece by Michelangelo Signorile on the Huffington Post:
Daytime TV host Wendy Williams got herself all worked up over Madonna's flashing of her bare breast two weeks ago during a concert in Istanbul, asking, "Okay old lady how desperate can we get?" The women on "The View" also weren't having it, and neither were Star Jones and ad man Donny Deutsch on the "Today" show. But I think they're all missing the point, and definitely not getting the context.

Yes, Madonna is striking out at the ageist critics who say woman of her age should act a certain way. In that sense she's doing what she's always done, pushing buttons about how women are supposed to behave. Now it's simply about how 50-something-year-old women are to behave. And yes, she has great breasts, on a par with those of many 30-year-olds, so why shouldn't she flaunt them?

But more significant is context, lost on the critics entirely. Madonna didn't show her nipple in New York or Los Angeles or Miami. She did it in Turkey, a predominantly Muslim country where many women do not show much of their bodies in public, and where women's rights are under attack by a conservative government, sending many marching into the streets in recent weeks.

Back in the 1980s, when Madonna burst on the scene, the U.S. was in a scary place on the issue of homosexuality. For a generation of gay men, Madonna was our antidote. As our friends died around us during the callous Reagan era, as conservatives like William F. Buckley Jr. called for putting tattoos on people with AIDS, as Senator Jesse Helms was writing laws against us, Madonna was pushing back culturally. She struck at the Catholic church. She flaunted sexuality. She crashed through stereotypes about gender. She did in those very oppressive years what Lady Gaga does for gays more overtly in this much more gay-accepting time.

So, by assertively flashing her nipple in Istanbul, Madonna was, in the cultural realm, doing something similar for the women of Turkey, perhaps helping to liberate them just a little bit. And what would she follow that up with? A few days later, last week in Rome, she flashed her butt to the crowd. I happened to be in Rome, and I got a chuckle when some in the Italian media actually took note that Madonna's ass was facing the Vatican. Was she mooning the Pope?

Last night I appeared with PR guru Howard Bragman on Joy Behar's new show on Current TV, and Howard made the point that Wendy Williams scored simply by having her name in the same headline with Madonna's.That may be true. But Madonna always scores bigger in these battles, and with her, so do we all.

With her array of playful kitschy style stage outfits and rainbow of hair colours, she is clearly a star who prefers to keeps up an ever-changing image.
And this month is no different for Katy Perry who appears on the cover of Italian L'Uomo Vogue magazine with short curly blonde hair, as she reveals she is keen to emulate another successful pop artist.
'I think Madonna, especially early in his career, when she was laying the foundations of her character, has been able to evolve constantly, managing to give the audience at every appearance a new visual interpretation and concept of herself,' Katy tells the magazine in the accompanying interview.
'She was able to keep up the interest of the people, because you never knew with what she would come out with the next time.'
'And, regularly, has offered a solid and consistent musical product,' Katy added. 'I hope to do the same, to make sure that people continue to be interested in me and in ten years, to find out, looking back, I have produced songs that will never be forgotten.'

Katy B has defended Madonna's decision to experiment with dubstep on her latest album, saying that everyone has the right to try whichever style the want.

Madonna has faced criticism from critics as well as fans of electronic music for what they see as The Material Girl jumping on the dubstep bandwagon whilst it is the flavour of the month. However, speaking exclusively to Gigwise, Katy said that she herself may not have made dubstep tunes were it not for the fact it was the music her friends were making at the time.

"The thing is to stay a relevant artist you have to evolve. If she went and made 'Like A Prayer' again it would be a bit boring. To stay interesting you have to work with your contemporaries. I think everyone jumps on a bandwagon in some ways, it just depends on what level," she said.

Adding: "When I first started writing songs I was jumping on a bandwagon a bit, even if it was a bit lower down the food chain so to speak. I guess Madonna is doing the same thing but just with the whole world looking at her. As long as she’s passionate about it, that’s all that matters. She’s been making dance music before I was even born."

Madonna has found a particularly strong enemy in the shape of Deadmau5, the DJ and producer labelled her 'funky Grandma' last week and previously slammed her for promoting drug use in electronic music circles.

Madonna will never be allowed to appear on 'Absolutely Fabulous' even if she wanted to, according to the show's creator Jennifer Saunders.

Madonna has been banned from ever appearing on 'Absolutely Fabulous'.

Jennifer Saunders - who plays hippie PR woman Edina Monsoon in the long-running comedy series - was once desperate for the 'Girl Gone Wild' singer to appear on the show, but after a number of snubs she has decided she will never be allowed on.

She said: "We have had loads of celebrities who have said no to us, but always Madonna. Madonna is the bane of our lives.

"In fact even if she said yes now we would have to turn her down. Madonna has always said no - and so are we."

Previous guests on the show have included Emma Bunton, Lulu, Kirsty Wark and Kate Moss and Jennifer admits the best celebrities to have are the ones who play it "deadpan".

According to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: "All you can say to them is, 'I really want you to be straight'.

"The greatest guests we have on are the people who play it completely deadpan and straight so we can be funny off them.

"The worst ones are the ones who try and overdo the joke."

Jennifer - who stars in the show alongside Joanna Lumley - is currently working on the movie version of the BBC show.

The singing iconic selected Georgia as the latest face of her Material Girl clothing line. The model flew to meet Madonna and was amazed by how kind and fun she was.
'Madonna was funny. She was cracking a lot of jokes. I love it when women are as powerful as she is. People have been looking up to her for 30 years,' she recalled.

Madonna Inspires Example's Healthy New Lifestyle

He now eats healthily and enjoys 'power smoothies', and insists he has been following Madonna's example of keeping fit.
Example tells British newspaper Sunday Mirror, 'I used to read how she had her own nutritionist, masseuse and personal trainer and think she was an idiot. But the summer took it out of me. I did 48 gigs in two months. However hard you think you can work, you can't. I'm having 10 hours sleep a night. I've got a blender and I'm making power smoothies. A blender has changed my life. In an exclusive interview with PinkNews.co.uk, gay BBC Radio 1 afternoon presenter Scott Mill says the ‘Queen of Pop’, Madonna is no longer a cool artist for the station.

“I don’t think we play Madonna anymore and if you ask a 17-year-old about her, they go ‘don’t care’…it’s a sign of the times, things change, it’s a generational thing. I like Madonna, does a 17-year-old? [she’s] probably not at the top of their list”.

Scott continued: “And that’s horrible, but that is the way it is…and also youth audiences are so fickle in what they like and what they don’t like, and they’re quite opinionated, you just have got to keep on top of that”.

Or what he really means is that She's to old to play on Radio 1.

Norton: 'Madonna was charming but I failed with Kylie'

Graham Norton has revealed what he thought about two of pop’s biggest female stars after they appeared on his chat show.
The Irish comedian told the Daily Mail that despite her reputation, Madonna didn’t act like a diva when he interviewed her on his BBC1 show earlier this year:
'She didn’t make any demands. She came on, and within a few minutes she was on the floor on her hands and knees. She was on a charm offensive.'
When asked how nervous he was about meeting the Queen of Pop, Norton replied: 'Terribly. I was worried it wouldn’t happen. But oddly enough, as soon as she came up the little steps, that was it. I felt it didn’t actually matter what happened after that, because she was on the show.'
'Afterwards we went out for dinner and got really drunk - not Madonna; me and my friends - and the atmosphere all day was incredible. It was like a royal visit.'
But the 49-year-old admitted that his meeting with Kylie Minogue in the late 90s didn’t go so well:
'I failed with Kylie. I’ve seen her on other shows since, and met her myself and she was lovely, but it just didn’t work. I wonder if it was because it was the first series [it started on Channel 4 in 1998] and she thought I was out to get her.'

''Such a total pro''
"When we were shooting the campaign she wasn't there, she was thousands of miles away, but after every shot the director would say: 'M wants you to put your arm like this,' or 'M wants you to change those shorts'.
"It was really freaky because we couldn't work out how on earth she knew what was happening. (Lola) and I were just laughing our heads off."

"It turned out, she was having every frame of every picture sent to her as it happened and literally directing the whole shoot from a room in another country. It was genius. She's such a total pro."

Madonna scores three nominations at the Billboard Touring Awards
Billboard has announced the finalists for the 2012 Billboard Touring Awards - boasting a diverse mix of genres, touring strategies, venue types, and positions on the career arc and their broad geographic footprint points to the increasingly global nature of the touring industry.
The Awards are primarily based on actual numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore, reflecting real business being done, as opposed to any sort of voting procedure, counting numbers reported to Boxscore from Oct. 1, 2011, through Sept. 30, 2012.

The finalists for the Top Tour, based on Boxscore gross, are Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's Wrecking Ball tour, Madonna's MDNA Tour and Roger Waters' The Wall Live tour.

Among the industry awards, finalists for Top Manager are Jon Landau Management (Springsteen), Mark Fenwick (Waters) and Guy Oseary (Madonna).

Madonna and Smirnoff are also nominated in the Concert Marketing & Promotion Award category, against Demi Lovato/Hallmark, Lady Antebellum/Lipton, Linkin Park/Honda Civic, Tim McGraw/Pennzoil and Zac Brown Band/Jack Daniel's.

The 2012 Billboard Touring Awards ceremony, hosted by Sandra Bernhard, will take place at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on November 8, 2012.

A brand new wax figure of the Queen of Pop, Madonna, is making its way to Madame Tussauds in London, ready for Christmas.

Famous for her ever changing style, the unique superstar’s newest wax incarnation is inspired by her latest MDNA Tour and will début at the attraction in December. The figure, sculpted by Dave Burks, will show her in a dramatic performance pose, wearing a costume inspired by one of the key looks from the series of concerts.

For a limited time only, guests will be able to see this Madonna in triple, as the new London figure is joined by two other stunning figures destined for the new Madame Tussauds in Tokyo – one showing the songstress in her ‘Like a Virgin’ persona, the other inspired by her 2008 Sticky and Sweet Tour.

Stalker gets probation

A retired city firefighter who was arrested twice for allegedly stalking Madonna near her Central Park West home may have a lucky star as he avoided jail time at his sentencing Wednesday.

Robert Linhart, 61, whose groupie-style public profession of love for the Material Girl went over the borderline to land him in handcuffs twice, said the pop queen is no longer a beautiful stranger to him and that he’s no longer burning up from his forbidden love.

"She's enjoying her life with her 24-year-old boyfriend," Linhart quipped outside the courtroom, apparently referring to Brahim Zaibat, who is now reportedly causing a commotion with the singer.

"I don't feel the same about her," he added. “The woman advocates free speech in Russia and then she has her security violate my right to free speech.”

Linhart’s troubles began in 2010 when he camped across the street from Madonna’s upper West Side building to express himself with signs. One read, "The Universe brought us together in 1992 and again this year in Prague. Meet me please."

Her security called cops, who arrested Linhart for graffiti after he defaced a sidewalk. Cops say they later found a knife in his car, though a judge later dismissed the weapons charge.

A few days later, Linhart was back with his signs, and was arrested again.

But in the end, Linhart was convicted only of a single count of resisting arrest — though his attorneys argued Linhart wasn’t resisting but merely reacting to the pain from a broken rotator cuff that he suffered during the original arrest.

On Wednesday, lawyer Lawrence LaBrew said his should get no jail time.

"Mr. Linhart served with the New York City Fire Department for 20 years. He put his life on the line for the citizens of New York," LaBrew said.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Laura Ward agreed, putting Linhart on probation for three years, but also ordered him to attend anger management sessions.

Linhart had admitted he yelled at cops while he was being collared.

Madonna lauded as world's top touring female artist of all time
Friday, Jan 25 2013
By Lewis Corner

Madonna has been lauded as the world's top touring female artist of all time.

The singer's latest 'MDNA' world tour has grossed $305 million at the box office, ranking it number ten on Billboard's Boxscore all-time chart.

The jaunt began in Israel on May 31, 2012 and concluded in Argentina on December 22, with Madonna headlining 88 dates overall.

The figures place Madonna between The Rolling Stones' 2002-2003 'Licks' tour at nine ($311m) and the band's 1997-1998 'Bridges to Babylon' tour at 11 ($274m).

Madonna's 'MDNA' tour finishes behind her own previous 'Sticky & Sweet' tour, which grossed $408m back in 2008-2009.

Madonna performs on stage in Hyde Park, London, as part of her MDNA tour

"It seems like I have said this a number of times following Madonna tours - five times to be precise: the overwhelming global success of the 'MDNA' tour proves yet again that Madonna is the greatest female touring artist," Live Nation's Arthur Fogel told Billboard.

"As this tour takes its place as one of the most successful in history, I can't help but enjoy the fact that it is the millions of fans who determine that. Thank you to [Madonna manager] Guy Oseary and the entire staff and crew of 'MDNA'."

Guy Ritchie Sells The Punch Bowl

The Punch Bowl in Mayfair became a favourite of the rich and famous after he bought it in February 2008.

But Ritchie is selling it to Alexander Langlands Pearse, whose Cirrus Inns has bought 12 pubs in Berkshire, Somerset, Dorset and Sussex since it was formed in 2011.

Friends say it was a wrench for the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director and his business partner Piers Adam to sell the 300-year-old pub but they feel the new owner will maintain its tradition.

A friend said: “They were determined that the new people wouldn’t change its DNA.” Ritchie and Madonna bought the Farm Street pub for a reported £2.5 million from Greg Foreman, son of gangster Freddie Foreman.

It became popular with princes William and Harry and celebrities such as David Beckham, James Corden, Robert Downey Jr, Sophie Dahl, Geri Halliwell, Kevin Spacey, Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Timberlake. Ritchie celebrated his 40th birthday there in September 2008. Ritchie and Madonna, who lived nearby, divorced in 2008 but he kept the pub as part of the settlement and continued to socialise there with friends such as Jude Law.

In August 2008 the Punch Bowl was investigated for alleged trading breaches and was cleared of charging tourists higher prices than regulars.

In 2009, Westminster council received 37 complaints about noise from the pub. The Punch Bowl famously offered two meals of fish and chips and half a bottle of champagne for £75.

Rumour
Madonna should be flying to Gstaad tomorrow
we just learned that the rumours about Madonna buying a chalet in Gstaad are true.

The past two years Madonna has spent new years eve in Gstaad with her family, where she once stayed with her friend and designer Valentino.

Madonna should be leaving London tomorrow for Geneva. She will then be travelling to Gstaad to finalise the purchase.

More than a Material Girl! Madonna joins the billionaires' club thanks to lucrative MDNA world tour and savvy investments
By Hanna Flint
Published 28 March 2013

Madonna has joined the ranks of the world's billionaires due to her hugely successful MDNA tour and a string of other business investments.

Named the 2012 top earner in pop music, the 54-year old was previously estimated to have accumulated a $700 million fortune.

But the Material Girl has certainly lived up to her moniker and tipped the scales, with the help of her 88 sell out shows grossing over $3.05 million, an additional $85 million income from her combined merchandise, TV rights and DVD sales and close to $100 million from other money-making endeavours.

Both the New York Post and Women's Wear Daily (WWD) confirmed her billionaire status this week, giving details about the ventures that have boosted her position on the celebrity rich list.

Last year, Madonna launched her debut perfume Truth or Dare which brought in $60 million in revenue according to WWD.

Continuing in the health and beauty sector, the singer also saw her financial status rise thanks to the launch of her own chain of gyms called Hard Candy.

Madonna’s Material Girl fashion chain was launched in Macy’s department stores in the U.S. three years ago with her eldest daughter, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, 15, and reportedly brings in $10 million a year.

Off the back of her retail success, the W.E. director will be designing a shoe collection under the same name of her fragrance as well as a lingerie line for Macy’s.

Moving into the drinks sector, the award-winning performer made a lucrative investment into Vita Coco that has supposedly earned her millions.

She also landed an extra $10 million deal with Smirnoff vodka, who released a limited edition bottle in honour of her name and sponsored her worldwide tour.

In fact, the 88 shows across the world were so successful, MDNA was named the highest grossing tour of 2012 and ninth of all time.

The accompanying album hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts on its debut, and even her performance at the Superbowl Half Time show in 2012 secured more viewers than Beyoncé’s.

Despite being in the twilight of her career, the chameleon-like singer is still relevant in the changing landscape of music.

Madonna launched onto the music in 1982 with her hit dance single Everybody.

Two years later she predicted her financial success through her famous materialistic hit.

Certainly history has proven her words right, as ‘experience has made [her] rich’, and secured the luxury-filled futures of Lourdes and her other three kids: 12-year old Rocco - from her marriage to Guy Richie – and her 7-year old adopted children, Mercy James and David Banda.

"We were at a party for Madonna’s last album and I was like, You guys should have produced this! Why did that not happen? Madonna and the robots would have been unbelievable! They were like, We’re working on something. I said, Whatever you do, call me - I’ll play tambourine on it. They looked at each other and they were like, We’ll be in touch."
Hard Candy co-producer Pharrell, talking to Rolling Stone about his collaboration with Daft Punk on their upcoming 'Random Access Memories' album, explains how he would have loved the dance duo to be involved with the Queen.

Dear Friends and Loyal Fans,
As Peter Rauhofer’s manager and dear friend for many years, it is my sad duty to announce that Peter was rushed to the emergency room several weeks ago. After confirming that Peter had a seizure, further testing has revealed a large brain tumor, something that has gone undiagnosed for quite some time.

At this time, Peter’s family is working closely with a team of talented Neurologists to determine the overall best treatment option. Please be assured that he is getting the absolute finest care possible, twenty-four hours a day.

I know Peter would appreciate your kind consideration and positive energy during this extremely difficult period. We will post any updates and progress reports as they become available.

Feel free to post your condolences as well as check into this page for updates.

Sincerely,
Angelo

Peter has done numerous Madonna remixes such as American Life, 4 Minutes, Me Against The Music, Nobody Knows Me, Get Together, Impressive Instant and Nobdy Knows Me to name a few.

Madonna's pre Met Ball vacuum photo causes spike in sales

Before she hit the Met Ball in a full black wig and tartan ensemble, Madonna Instagrammed this snap of herself with the caption, 'Cleaning up before the Met Ball'.
According to our sources, the star was using a Miele S4 vacuum hose to make sure her bathroom was in tip top shape before she hit the red carpet.
Weirdly, Miele have seen a dramatic increase in sales calls for this particular model - so much so that the brand is thinking about developing a new range of vacuums in Madge's honour!
Miele's Marketing Director, Dominic Worlsey, said, 'Miele has seen vacuum sales calls more than double since Madonna posted the photo. We've had so much interest that we've contacted her as a potential brand ambassador to launch the 'Immaculate Collection' of Miele vacuums. Inspired by the fashion forward icon, the range could emulate Madonna's most unforgettable outfits; from a pink Material Girl design, to an edgy look reminiscent of her Jean Paul Gaultier pointy braziers.''

Amnesty International says that more than 100 leading musicians are calling for release of jailed members of the Russian punk group Pussy Riot.
Amnesty said Monday that Adele, U2, Madonna, Yoko Ono, Radiohead, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Ke$ha, Sir Paul McCartney and Sting were among those who signed an open letter organized by the group. The musicians say in the letter that the impact of Pussy Riot's "shockingly unjust trial and imprisonment has spread far and wide, especially among your fellow artists, musicians and citizens around the world."

They urged the Russian authorities to free 23-year old Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and 25-year-old Maria Alekhina, who received 2-year sentences last August for an irreverent punk protest against President Vladimir Putin in Moscow's main cathedral. Their parole appeal hearings are due this week.

All 16 of the Icons Name-Dropped in Madonna’s “Vogue” Are Now Gone
By Miriam Krule

An odd bit of trivia about the passing of Lauren Bacall on Tuesday: As Marci Robin pointed out on Twitter, all 16 of the 20th-century stars immortalized in Madonna's “Vogue” are now dead. The famous black-and-white music video, directed by David Fincher, is an homage to the golden age of Hollywood.

The song came out in March of 1990; Greta Garbo died just a month later. (James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and others had already gone, of course.) Bacall, 24 years on, was the final one.

Greta Garbo (April 15, 1990)

Marilyn Monroe (Aug. 5, 1962)

Marlene Dietrich (May 6, 1992)

Joe DiMaggio (March 8, 1999)

Marlon Brando (July 1, 2004)

James Dean (Sept. 30, 1955)

Grace Kelly (Sept. 14, 1982)

Jean Harlow (June 7, 1937)

Gene Kelly (Feb. 2, 1996)

Fred Astaire (June 2, 1987)

Ginger Rogers (April 25, 1995)

Rita Hayworth (May 14, 1987)

Lauren Bacall (Aug. 12, 2014)

Katharine Hepburn (June 29, 2003)

Lana Turner (June 29, 1995)

Bette Davis (Oct. 6, 1989)

The song was a tribute, of course, to a certain kind of old-fashioned glamour. With Bacall gone, that flame has just about burned out.

Digital Spy ran through 7 acts who managed to top their first album with their second, with Madonna placed #4:

QUOTE
4. Madonna: Like a Virgin (1984)

How many artists can sell over 10 million albums with their debut and then go and double those figures with their second album just 18 months later? That's exactly what Madonna did with Like a Virgin. The blonde popstar teamed up with Nile Rodgers for the set, which went on to sell over 21 million copies worldwide. Its title track remains an iconic pop number, while 'Material Girl' became the zeitgeist of a booming commercial market of the '80s. What's more, when you've got a song as amazing as 'Into the Groove' as a bonus track (or a B-side in some countries), you know you're on to a classic record.

Like a Virgin was the first instance where Madonna demanded creative control. She wasn't given it completely by her label Warner Bros, but she had enough to deliver an album that would cement herself as the future Queen of Pop. The album's aesthetic of Marilyn Monroe-meets-Saint Mary was provocative, radical and exciting in mainstream music. Madonna performed lead single 'Like a Virgin' for the very first time at the very first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, and like her peers such as Michael Jackson, positioned herself and the record as pioneers in a music visual revolution that would turn her into an icon. Oh, and Madonna's label allegedly pushed back the release of Like a Virgin because they thought it wasn't going to work... It's still Madonna's only album to be certified Diamond in the US.

Dermot O’Leary sat down for a chat on Heat Radio with Lucie Cave this morning ahead of the release of his biography book, Soundtrack To My Life.
The X Factor presenter also shared some tidbits about the time he interviewed the Queen of Pop for the “Confessions Of Madonna” special that aired November 27, 2005 on Channel 4.

Halfway through the interview, she said ‘What kind of cocktails do they do here?’ and immediately you’re like ‘Think of a thing! Aaah I don’t know!’ and then someone saidthey had mojitos so she was like ‘OK after this we’re going to have mojitos’.
You think, well, we’re not really going to are we. After the interview, your PR is going to whisk you away and I’m never going to see you again, but its a nice thing to say. We wrapped the interview, and she said ‘OK come on lets go!’ so fifteen minutes later, myself and my producer (who was beside himself) and two quite bemused cameramen were at a cocktail bar.’

But what did they talk about?

Oh, smalltalk. That’s the lovely thing about our job, with big stars you always find commonality, people are either ‘people people’ or they’re not and obviously Madonna is her own woman, and really strong, but i found her really personable!

Madonna on Guy Ritchie marriage: "There were times when I felt incarcerated"
By Naomi Gordon
Wednesday, Mar 11 2015

Madonna has said she felt "incarcerated" at times during her marriage to ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

Speaking about her seven-and-a-half year marriage to the British director, Madonna told The Sun that she felt she "wasn't really allowed" to be herself creatively.

"I think when you get married you have to be willing to make a lot of compromises and that's fair enough," said Madonna, who has son Rocco with Ritchie. "I think that's the way it goes in relationships.

"However, you know, I did find myself sometimes in a state of conflict. There were many times when I wanted to express myself as an artist in ways that I don't think my ex-husband felt comfortable with.

"There were times when I felt incarcerated. I wasn't really allowed to be myself," she continued. "It doesn't mean that marriage is a bad thing.

"But if you're an artist, you've got to find someone who accepts who you are and are comfortable with that."

Madonna also revealed that she sees herself as mother and father to her four children - Lourdes, from her previous relationship with Carlos Leon, plus Rocco, David and Mercy.

"I'm the mum and the dad. I'm the husband and the wife. But we do have lots of father figures," she said.

"I have an unconventional family. I've always had an unconventional family. It is what it is. Would I ever consider getting married again? Maybe. Never say never," she stated.

Madonna also responded to designer Giorgio Armani's claim that she can be "very difficult", after she put her Brit Awards stage fall down to the dramatic Armani cape she was wearing being tied too tight.

"I don't know why he said that. I was surprised. I thought we had a good relationship. When I read it, I was like: 'Oh really?'" said the star.

"He made me a lovely outfit. I was very appreciative of it. After the performance, he sent me flowers. He thanked me and said he hoped I was OK and applauded me for getting back up on the stage."

Just finished watch Truth or Dare over the course of a couple of days. Really good watch - you can tell she's calmed down a lot from that stage of her life but most qualities I'm sure will still exist. I loved her chemistry with her team, particularly her dancers. I think that really helped her achieve the purpose of the documentary: behind the fame, Madonna is human and has friendships and thinks things that any ordinary person would have. So yeah, helped me see her in a different light.

Madonna: I'd Be Invited to Meet Obama If I Were Married to Jay Z — The Complete 25 Things You Don't Know About Me
MAR. 23, 2015 AT 1:15PM BY IAN DREW

Living for this! As teased last week, the Queen of Pop, 56, recently chatted with Us Weekly's Entertainment Director Ian Drew for an extended interview about her legacy, her romantic past, her kids, her famous friends (including her crush, Drake!) and much, much more. Read this very special edition of 25 Things You Don't Know About Me now!

1. My all-time favorite Madonna song is “Bitch I’m Madonna” — naturally. And my least favorite is “Material Girl.” I never want to hear it again!

2. My favorite city is Rome. I’s so beautiful. The light is soothing and calming to me, and the architecture is splendid and the food is incredible. I totally love it.

3. I can’t stand mushrooms. Or escargot. Yuck! It’s like snot. Expensive snot.

4. The person I idolize most is Paul Farmer. He’s a doctor and activist who rebuilt the health-care system in Haiti even before the 2010 earthquake. He’s done the same in Rwanda.

5. The last time I went grocery shopping was a year ago.

6. I miss absolutely nothing about growing up in Michigan. Nothing at all.

7. The person I most want to meet is President Obama. When the heck am I going to meet him? He just needs to invite me to the White House already. He probably thinks I’m too shocking to be there. I’m serious. If I was a little bit more demure…or if I was just married to Jay Z. Hey, if Jay would only take me as his second wife, then I’d score an invitation.

8. The one thing I’d never be caught dead wearing is a fur bikini.

9. My happiest moments were when my children [Lourdes, 18, Rocco, 14, David, 9, and Mercy, 9] were born and when I got married both times [to Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie].

10. My favorite part of my body is my eyes. My least is my dancer’s feet. They are pretty disgusting.

11. I have found marriages don’t last if you share bathrooms. The best thing about being single is there’s no one to throw out of the bathroom when I want privacy.

12. The thing I miss least about marriage is being called “the wife.” The worst.

13. My most fattening indulgence is either pizza or french fries. Or potato chips, actually. Love them all.

14. The last time I was starstruck was when [French actor] Alain Delon called me while I was in Copenhagen during my last tour. I was trying to get him to do an onstage cameo during a small show in Paris. I was shaking because I love him so much! I never met the dude and only knew him from movies. He was my ridiculous teenage crush.

15. I don’t really watch TV. I only like two shows — True Detective and an Irish series called The Fall - and I’m not embarrassed about them. Many people say, “The Fall with Jamie Dornan,” but I say, “The Fall with Gillian Anderson.” She’s so good.

16. The lifelong ambition I still want to fulfill is to go on a dream date with Drake — and only kiss him.

17. The most embarrassing moment of my life was falling off stage — let me rephrase that, being choked off the stage by two little Japanese girls — at the 2015 Brit Awards. Extremely embarrassing!

18. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen was my daughter [Lourdes] playing the ukulele and singing “La Vie en Rose” for me.

19. My secret beauty ritual is to put ice on my eyes every morning. Ice, ice baby.

20. Speaking of, if I were trapped on a desert island with either [ex-boyfriend] Vanilla Ice or Dennis Rodman, I would pick Dennis. He has a better sense of humor. Plus, he could always wear my clothes.

21. The quality I most loathe in people is making assumptions. Not doing research, investigating or asking questions and just assuming something. Oh, that drives me bonkers. I also can’t stand when I’m talking to someone and they’re texting. My kids will do it! It drives me up the wall. I always put my hand on their phones and ruin whatever they’re doing.

22. I can’t say what my worst date was, but there have been many. I’m a woman of the world, baby. One nonnegotiable attribute in a lover: He must not ever want to be away from me for more than two weeks at a time.

23. I have major claustrophobia. I don’t like being stuck in small, enclosed spaces or in crowds. They freak me out.

24. My ideal day off is spent lying in bed all day — sleeping for a few hours, then waking up and watching old movies, like my favorite, Breathless. I eat in bed, have my children come hang out with me, and then I fall back asleep. I never leave the bedroom.

25. My favorite memories of Michael Jackson were getting him to let down his guard. He was so shy. The time I succeeded most was after I got him drunk at the Ivy in Beverly Hills. I was driving my Mercedes and dared him to throw his sunglasses out the window. We couldn’t stop laughing.
