UK Chart Run: 12-4-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-4-9-17-23-28-36-50-63-69 (23 weeks) Next up we bid farewell to the biggest hit of the year as Whitney's I Will Always Love You got the most votes to leave in round 2, that's both of the christmas top 2 gone now. Boasting one of the longest runs at number 1 ever, 10 weeks over the end of 92 and the beginning of 93, this was Whitney's biggest hit in the UK. In typical early 90s style, the biggest hit of the year came from a movie - this time The Bodyguard - where Whitney not only starred as the star singer in the movie but released one of the most successful soundtrack albums of all time. In retrospect this is perhaps an overwrought version of the Dolly Parton track but at the time everyone was in awe at the vocal power Whitney displayed and that note she held towards the end of the track, not to mention the spanning of the octaves. These days it's rightly overshadowed my much of Whitney's other material, my personal favourite era was actually her late 90s period with the My Love Is Your Love album. So two out, who'll be next? You guys decide... |

I love their versions of Lay All Your Love On Me (which was the main song at the time until the comparatively awful Take A Chance On Me got hype because of the video), SOS and Voulez Vous! I won't be voting for that for quite some time yet.
