I've tried the book and it's shit, but I'll probably watch this!

I've not read the book but it's got a very good cast so I'll be watching. I'm too scared to read anything non Harry Potter related by JK but if I enjoy the series, I'll explore the book!

I've not read The Casual Vacancy because I heard bad things about it. I'll definitely give this a watch though. I hope they adapt 'The Cuckoo's Calling' and 'The Silkworm' because JK Rowling definitely made two great books there!

An adaptation of The Cuckoo's Calling was announced late last year. That may well mean it won't reach the screen until next year.

I've not read The Casual Vacancy but I shall probably watch it.

The book was great, and this was amazing. So well shot and fantastic acting. Very impressed!

I haven't read the book so I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of characters introduced in the first episode but the ending has me intrigued for the other episodes!

I just watched the first episode and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely continue watching, especially since it's only a three-part series.

Today's episode was a bit slow but I'm liking how the story is developing. I think the cast and their amazing performance is pulling up the programme tbh, the plot and story itself isn't great.

I think this is awful!!!

I can see where April is coming from in that the performances seem like they ought to be great but there's hardly any substance holding everything together.

The plot is all rather whacky but I'm enjoying it. It's clearly not meant to be taken too seriously. I'm just treating it as a bit of a satire on idyllic village life - a bit like a 21st century Cold Comfort Farm.

Just watched the second episode and I enjoyed it a lot more than the first! It is better when it's not viewed as too serious, it is more like a cartoonish view of a village life laugh.gif

I was enjoying it until it ended. At which point I was wondering what exactly was it supposed to be about? I thought it was all going somewhere but apparently not. Very sad ending though.

Well, I feel that this got better with each episode! I really enjoyed the last one and, of course, it was a sad ending.

I guess, I agree with you T Boy, that I'm not quite sure what the full point of it was but I enjoyed the journey of the three episodes. I guess it was just a (sometimes) humorous look at the quaint village life/community aside from Krystal's story but then I guess Krystal's family were the ones that didn't fit into the community.

I quite liked it but I thought there wasn't really enough story and that was my problem. Things were also left unclear and I couldn't understand who I was supposed to root for. Krystal, I guess but who else?

Posted by: April Mar 6 2015, 05:37 PM

The last one was sad when Krystal died, but I agree with Toby over who we were supposed to be rooting for. Surely not Krystal if they then go and kill her off.

Personally, I was rooting for Samantha Mollison and she came out on top in the end.
