Gah, one of my Top 5 moments leaves already. 'How High' sees Madonna reflect on her career, questioning why she became successful and how much fame actually means. The simple, rhetorical questions in the chorus get deeper as they go on, with Madonna eventually considering giving up and doubting whether what she's done with her life actually matters. However, as ever with rhetorical questions, they are open to interpretations and they can be viewed in a more positive light, such as realising that things that keep you grounded like family are much more valuable than having the respect and admiration of strangers. And for good measure, humour is injected by placing 'Jump' and 'How High' next to each other in the tracking list. Furthermore, the production from Bloodshy & Avant (responsible for Britney's 'Toxic' and Kylie's 'Speakerphone' and 'Nu-di-ty') is among the best on the album for me, with the effective use of vocoder, the William Orbit-esque bleeps and whirs, synthy strings and disco beat.
Next Round: Tuesday 10 November
Round 03: How High (04/16; 25.00%, joint with 'Future Lovers', lost deadlock 08/13; 61.54%)
Round 02: I Love New York (04/16; 25.00%)
Round 01: Push (06/12; 50.00%)
To somewhat save John's sanity, I went for Like It Or Not.
Also going for 'Like it Or Not'!
I am going to play a tactical game here and also go for Like It Or Not (which, to be fair, is my second least favourite of what's left).
