Whilst we're revisiting 00s dance in the chart forum, it's time we ranked the biggest dance hits of the 2000s.
The top 15 best-selling dance songs of each year in the UK have been selected, simply rank them from +15 (favourite) to +01 (least favourite) and the top four of each group will be put into a grand final. The deadline will be set for next Saturday (or whenever I remember to do results). 2000 Now at the final round and the first year of the decade we have 2000, the year when garage stepped to the forefront of dance music whilst house and trance were still dominant. Artful Dodger, Sweet Female Attitude, Sonique and Truesteppers brought garage to the top of the charts whilst Bomfunk MC's gave us a rare drum n' bass hit. House was represented by Black Legend, Madison Avenue, Modjo and Spiller and it was a particularly big year for trance, with hits from Chicane, Darude, Fragma, Melanie C & Hex Hector, Public Domain and Zombie Nation making the year end list. +15 Darude - Sandstorm [an absolute classic!!]
+14 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 [another top trance tune] +13 Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) [amazing groove to this and catchy vocal, same with Modjo] +12 Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight) +11 Fragma - Toca's Miracle [one of the better examples of 'trance-pop' that charted well] +10 Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby [really like the bassline] +09 Sonique - It Feels So Good +08 Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler [this really bangs, shame there wasn't more of this type of dance being made/charting] +07 Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Don't Give Up +06 Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me +05 Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers +04 Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast +03 Public Domain - Operation Blade (Bass In The Place) [decent but there was a lot of better trance being done, same with I Turn To You] +02 Melanie C - I Turn To You (Hex Hector Remix) +01 Truesteppers & Dane Bowers feat. Fantastic year for dance music in the UK, one the best ever if not THE best ever for UK Chart Dance I think. So many excellent top 10 reaching dance tune that didn't make the list from 2000, Heart Of Asia, Silence, Time To Burn, Welcome To The Dance and Bullet In The Gun come to mind.
+15 Fragma - Toca's Miracle - absolute classic, probably the favourite to win this whole Ultimate Dance Hits I think. +14 Melanie C - I Turn To You (Hex Hector Remix) - an example of trancepop that isn't cheesy, really liked this at the time. +13 Sonique - It Feels So Good - Excellent tune, one I remember a lot and liked from the time, I think her follow up 'Sky' is even better though +12 Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler - Remember this one from the time and liked it, much different to the rest of the dance that made the charts in 2000. +11 Truesteppers & Dane Bowers feat. Victoria Beckham - Out Of Your Mind - Nice uplifting garage tune with some good orchestral strings in it! +10 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 - Fantastic mostly instrumental hard trance track. +9 Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Don't Give Up - Really like this, nice and chilled, but not the extent of being boring. Atmospheric too. Remember it a lot from the time and liked it back then. +8 Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers - This is a lovely song! Its a pity there was no top 40 charting follow up from SFA. +7 Darude - Sandstorm - Excellent trance instrumental but I have over heard it a bit it would be higher if I didn't. I think I liked it at the time. +6 Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast - Another soulful garage tune with female empowerment lyrics! +5 Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me - Good remix, didn't like this at the time though as I thought it was a bit of a mess. I prefer Mad'house - Like A Prayer though which was inspired by this. +4 Public Domain - Operation Blade (Bass In The Place) - This is like the 'Eat, Sleep, Rave Repeat' of 2000, it isn't trance I would say, but hard house. I hated this sort of hard dance at the time but like it now! +3 Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight) - Good tune but the strong competition from other songs on this list sadly makes it this low. +2 Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby - Like the bassline but the lyrics and vocal are a bit cringeworthy in parts. +1 Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) - Nice tune but wouldn't be one of my favourite funky house songs. |

A final outstanding year. My top 4 are basically interchangeable.
+15: Fragma - Toca's Miracle [definitely one of the best of the 00s] +14: Sonique - It Feels So Good [love all 3 of her big hits: this, Sky & I Put A Spell On You] +13: Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers [possibly my fave garage track of all time] +12: Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 [THAT instrumental  ]+11: Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler +10: Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight) [don't know anyone who doesn't like this one] +09: Melanie C - I Turn To You (Hex Hector Remix) [the best solo Spice Girls track by far, Never Be The Same Again is also great] +08: Darude - Sandstorm [a great track but a bit overdone by all the memes etc.] +07: Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby +06: Public Domain - Operation Blade (Bass In The Place) [would probably be much higher if asked a few years back but don't return to it as much nowadays] +05: Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Don't Give Up +04: Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson - Movin' Too Fast +03: Spiller feat.
