Biography

Kodaline (/ˈkoʊdəlaɪn/) is an Irish band. Originally known as 21 Demands, in 2012 the band changed its name to Kodaline.

Steve Garrigan and Mark Prendergast grew up in Swords, Dublin, and have known each other since childhood. They both attended secondary school at Colaiste Choilm in Swords, where they would take part in many battles of the bands. They began to share a love for music and at that stage Vinny May, who also lived in Swords, joined the group. The group was not fully complete until January 2012, when their friend, bass player Jason Boland, from Celbridge, County Kildare, was recruited.

Afternoon all hi.gif

Retro chart thoughts:
  • 5 years since my favourite Katy Perry song 'Wide Awake' first entered the top 10! wub.gif The era got off to an underwhelming start as 'Part of Me' is her weakest single ever for me, but then my interest was quickly reignited as I took to 'Wide Awake' pretty much straight away. Such an impactful soaring chorus. That juxtaposition in those back-to-back releases being my least favourite and favourite of hers laugh.gif Also, from the 2012 retro I really liked 'This Is Love' at the time but it's aged quite badly.
  • 10 years since 'Foundations' debuted at number 2 *.* such a quotable song, I remember lots of my friends on MSN having lyrics from that song as their status thing on there at the time haha. I was quite fond of 'Pumpkin Soup' by her too. 'Heavyweight Champion Of The World' making the top 10 as well! wub.gif I still hear that quite often as it's one of my dad's favourite songs.
  • King of #2s Sash! debuting at that ever familiar position 20 years ago kink.gif He rarely put a foot wrong, I can't think of a Sash! single I actively dislike. 'I'll Be Missing You' at the top! <3 one of the rare urban songs that Heart FM actually touch kink.gif that song was #1 on the day I was born (August 4th), it had two stints of being at the top if I'm remembering correctly?

I'll be in and out this week as I have work stuff to do at the same time, the joy!

Retro thoughts-wise, I still think of I'll Be Missing You when I hear that riff, not the Police song. And I prefer it too!

'02 wise, thank god we no longer have those weeks upon weeks of dull Elvis songs.

'07 wise, the start of Rihanna as we know her!

'12 wise, ohgod back when will.i.am was still a thing...cringe

'16 wise, I still don't like One Dance. What a fluke of a hit. At least stuff like Blurred Lines actually seemed omnipresent while it was at the top.

Biography

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American rapper and songwriter. Born and raised in Compton, California, he embarked on his musical career as a teenager under the stage name K-Dot, releasing a mixtape that garnered local attention and led to his signing with indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). He began to gain recognition in 2010, after his first retail release, Overly Dedicated. The following year, Lamar independently released his first studio album, Section.80, which included his debut single, "HiiiPoWeR". By that time, he had amassed a large Internet following and collaborated with several prominent artists in the hip hop industry, including The Game, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.

His major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was released in 2012 by TDE, Aftermath and Interscope Records to critical success. It debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The record contained the top 40 hit singles "Swimming Pools (Drank)", "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" and "Poetic Justice". Lamar won his first Grammy Award for "i", the lead single from his critically acclaimed third album To Pimp a Butterfly (2015). The album drew on free jazz, funk, soul, and spoken word, debuted atop the charts in the US and the UK, and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 58th ceremony. In 2016, Lamar released untitled unmastered., a collection of unreleased demos that originated during the recording sessions for Butterfly. He released his fourth album Damn in 2017; its lead single "Humble" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lamar has received a number of accolades over the course of his career, including seven Grammy Awards. In early 2013, MTV named Lamar the number one "Hottest MC in the Game", on their annual list. Time named Lamar one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016. Aside from his solo career, Lamar is also known as a member of the West Coast hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside his TDE label-mates and fellow South Los Angeles-based rappers Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q.
