Jason Derulo - The Sky's The Limit
After 4 top 12 hits from the album, Jason finally took the plunge to release the best song on the album but unfortunately it stalled at.. #68 </3 -- Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood (#12) I Am Not A Robot (#26) Oh No! (#38) Kinda cheating a bit with this one as all of them were top 40 hits, but I really believed she would be the next big thing and assumed all of them were destined to be huge top 10 smashes  (with 'Hollywood' being a guaranteed top 3 smash!) OMG at what they've renamed 'Oh No!' too because it seems to have gone viral at some point on Tik Tok???? OMG.-- Kate Nash - Do-Wah-Doo Again, another that went top 40 (#15) but this one spent just 3 weeks top 100! I thought it was going to be huge </3 -- Ironik feat. Jessica Lowndes - Falling In Love In an era where male rap with female hooks were literally taking over, I always thought this would do better than #40 and just 2 weeks top 100! An absolute STUNNER of a song! --- Girls Can't Catch - Echo Girls Can't Catch... a hit it seems!!!! 2010 seems to be the era of short lived top 40 hits! This pop gem had top 10 written all over it. Instead it went to #19 and spent 3 weeks top 100. Gross! --- Kid Sister feat. Cee-Lo Green - Daydreamin' Am I remembering correctly... did this actually get Radio 1 playlisting? What a bop. It didn't chart and deserved to either way </3 |

'Can't Breathe' is such a missed opportunity for a single </3 especially for US rhythmic radio at the time! Shontelle is so underrated </3 What a banger. Love that Natasha song too. It was really unique for 2010! Endearing too! LOOOVE this too! Deserved so much more </3 Yeah in hindsight (and as much as I love Happy) I think they should have gone for either Don’t Let Me Down (feat. JT) or Naked for lead single then Can’t Breathe for 2nd single with XF performance. The label spent so much on making an album they really didn’t know what to do with.

They did turn it around the following year with 'Moves Like Jagger' but even though it peaked at #30 I'd consider this a bit of a flop for Maroon 5 especially when considering it was the lead single off this album at the time!

In an effort to catch up with everyone else, here’s my selection of flops from the first quarter of 2010;
Esmee Denters – Admit It [Peaked at #56 in January 2010] Possibly not helped by being released in the first week of the year, but this follow up to the Top 10 hit Outta Here flopped badly. So did her next lead single released later this year. Rihanna feat. Young Jeezy – Hard [Peaked at #42 in January 2010] The single was not pushed as an international single for Rihanna but helped by the music video perhaps, she was able to reach just outside the Top 40 with this one. Sub Focus – Could This Be Real [Peaked at #41 in January 2010] Not accustomed yet to chart hits, this single, along with the next one, just missed out on a Top 40 position, but a couple of years later they would be much more successful. Hot Chip – One Life Stand [Peaked at #41 in February 2010] The last time Hot Chip were in the charts was with this single from 2010 which just failed to make it into the Top 40. Muse – Resistance [Peaked at #38 in February 2010] So many singles from this era deserved better after the strong peak for Uprising in 2009. This one, whilst it did make it into the Top 40, quickly fell away from the charts. Amy MacDonald – Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over [Peaked at #48 in March 2010] Her ability to find hits was over a long time before this single came along sadly. The Scottish singer was unable to repeat the success of her solo from 2007, and after one more attempt in 2012 called it a day on chasing chart hits. Goldfrapp – Rocket [Peaked at #47 in March 2010] The last single to chart for Goldfrapp as an electronic outfit. It was a good one that could have peaked higher if not perhaps for all the Glee Cast singles sticking around in the charts in 2010. Robbie Williams – Morning Sun [Peaked at #45 in March 2010] Up to this point, this became the lowest charting single from Robbie Williams in the UK, missing out on the Top 40 and only lasting 3 weeks in the charts. |

Am I misremembering but I thought Hard was playlisted by Radio 1 and peaked at #42 because it had that push?
EDIT: Hard was playlisted by Radio 1 in July 2010 and it re-entered the chart but it didn't go past its previous January peak so ignore me there

My findings of the second quarter of 2010 flops;
Boys Like Girls – Love Drunk [Peaked at #48 in April 2010] Not one that I remember very much about, but this pop punk band had a go in 2008 with a single that flopped too, this did better but not enough to give them a Top 40 single. Mini Viva – One Touch [Did Not Chart] Why did this one never make it into the UK charts? It screams hit, and it was such a fun pop song, as good if not better than their 2009 hit Left My Heart In Tokyo. This was such a disappointing result for Mini Viva. Cascada – Pyromania [Peaked at #60 in May 2010] I kmowmige mentioned Cascada before in these threads, but this one from 2010 did deserve a mention. Another electro-pop hit in the making that wasn’t to be. Should have easily been another Top 10 hit with this Poker Face knock-off. Hurts – Better Than Love [Peaked at #50 in May 2010] The first charting single by Hurts peaked outside the Top 40, but it paved the way for one of the best songs of the year, despite its low peak, and that’s what matters. Delphic – Couhterpoint [Did Not Chart] Mentioned earlier in this thread by jimwatts, Delphic were one of the few new bands in 2010 that I took a real liking to, and for me, this was their best single, yet it failed to make ah]ny impact whatsoever which is criminal. Madcon – Glow [Peaked at #70 in June 2010] After Beggin' blew up to be one of the biggest hits of the year, one might expect their follow-up single to have some reasonable success off the back of it, but #70 was all that this could manage. |
