Dexton's Top 50 (11/12/2018) (Week 83)
- Ariana extends her run at #1 to two weeks, matching the length her previous #1 "God Is A Woman" spent at the summit. Of her three #1 singles in the chart now only "No Tears Left To Cry" has spent less than two weeks at the top. - Jon Bellion's latest two #1 singles "Cautionary Tales" and "Stupid Deep" remain in the top 5 along with Hilltop Hoods' Leave Me Lonely, the three of them are joined by a Bastille & SeeB debut "Grip". "Grip" comes from Bastille's Other People's Heartache (Pt. 4) mixtape which debuts at #1 in the albums chart. - George Ezra's "Hold My Girl" continues to creep it's way up the chart - much different to "Shotgun" which went from #21 to #1 in the space of three weeks (stopping at #10 on the way). - Numerous other Bastille tracks impact: "The Descent" at #10, "Don't Let Go (Love)" at #19, and "Would I Lie To You?" at #25. "Happier" remains in the top 50 at #48 despite not being included on this mixtape. Bastille cover the En Vogue bop which was also covered by James Hype last year and made it to #4. - It's Christmastime! And a wonderful one at that if you're Blossoms - their cover of a Paul McCartney classic enters at #29 and is their 4th top 30 hit this year. Interestingly, three cover versions of fairly old songs have debuted this week (two from Bastille, one from Blossoms) and adding to Pink's "A Million Dreams" cover means that I'm fairly sure this is the most amount of cover singles I've ever charted at once. Probably. - Ariana Grand's "Santa Tell Me" and Sia's "Candy Cane Lane" re-enter in the top 50 after almost a year away, and joining them is Sia's "Ho Ho Ho" this year likely charting in place of "Santa's Coming For Us". The Christmas effect from now forwards will be mainly 'modern' songs or covers rather than originals from... basically before I was born - Bastille have this weeks #1 album locked in as well as the #4 album where Wild World debuts (I think, I don't think it's charted here before but I could be wrong). Coldplay also show up. Hey Dexton!
Someone's been listening to the new Bastille mixtape then? I liked the first one they did back whenever that was, so I guess I should really check out the new one. I see you've also charted Blossoms' version of 'Wonderful Christmastime', I thought it was OK but nothing special. Nice selection of other Christmas songs though, and I'm really happy to see 'Ho Ho Ho' sneaking in - definitely my favourite new Christmas song of the last few years, I absolutely love and was playing it over the weekend actually. The whole album's great, 'Candy Cane Lane' being another great track from it so good to see that here too. I'm convinced that 'Ho Ho Ho' would have been more successful than 'Santa's Coming For Us' had that been chosen as the lead single instead. But anyway yeah big up Sia and her brilliant xmas album *.* Will more Christmas songs enter next week? Great chart! |

Hello Dexton!
Nice to see "Grip" debut in your top 5, the only song I've listened to from their EP (which I haven't listened to yet). I also like the huge gain for "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart"! Great chart! |

But anyway yeah big up Sia and her brilliant xmas album *.* Will more Christmas songs enter next week? Great chart! Hey Mango! I sure have! OPH3 is my least favourite so far but this is just as amazing as the first two I might end up preferring Blossoms' version tbh, I know it's nothing too different to the original but that's not strictly a bad thing when it comes to covering Christmas songs and Blossoms have had a good year in my chart. Ho Ho Ho skipped me by last year (and Snowman I suppose) but is charting this year. I'm not sure if any of her singles would've been a hit first time around tbh, though it did manage to sneak into the UK top 40 last year. They should do, I'm not sure what yet though. The Christmas effect is hitting me later this year it seems for whatever reason so aside from the few songs I'm charting right now there's not a whole lot waiting to sneak in. I'll end up having like 15 new entries on the Christmas chart before they all drop out the week later :lol; Thanks for commenting! Hello Dexton! Nice to see "Grip" debut in your top 5, the only song I've listened to from their EP (which I haven't listened to yet). I also like the huge gain for "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart"! Great chart! Hey sergej! Grip could be a #1 contender before long tbh, at pretty much the exact same time they hit #1 on Craig David's I Know You The whole EP is great though I fully recommend it - Flowers is my least favourite but It's still not a song I'll be skipping anytime soon. The intro & outro would likely chart for me if they were a little longer and more like actual 'songs'. Warmth remains my favourite album track from their last album which soooo should've been a single! Thanks for commenting! |

Hi Dexton!
I think I've said already that I'm not a massive fan of Grip Hope SeeB can come up with something decent next year at least. Giving Don't Let Go a listen now, an interesting cover and very different from the James Hype one that cracked the charts last year! Interested to see whether Bastille get any sort of chart relevance this era. Blossoms have done a Christmas song An interesting cover but I guess it suits their synths! Another one to add to the avalanche of Christmas songs that will grace my Personal Chart next week anyway Great chart |
