Actor Danny Dyer's "incredible" royal connection is to be revealed in the new series of BBC genealogy programme Who Do You Think You Are?.

The EastEnders star will be one of 10 celebrities to look into their family trees in the 13th run of the show.

The stories of Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and pop star Cheryl will also feature in the autumn series.

Executive producer Colette Flight said an "extraordinary range of incredible stories" would be told.

The BBC said Dyer's story would trace his family from "poverty and crime in the East End back through the centuries to an incredible connection to royalty".

It added the investigations into Cheryl's past had discovered her "long forgotten great grandfather, a quintessential Tommy in the First World War", while Holden's featured a "Napoleonic-era cross-channel romance and the forgotten tragedy of Britain's worst ever maritime disaster".

Other celebrities set to feature in the new series include newsreader Sophie Raworth, acting great Sir Ian McKellen, The Royle Family's Ricky Tomlinson, film actor Warwick Davis and ex-Casualty and Strictly Come Dancing star Sunetra Sarker.

Flight said their stories were "sometimes tragic, sometimes funny, but always compelling".

I guess it pretty much confirms she's going for an autumn release. She wouldn't do the kind of show if she had nothing to promote.

This isn't the sort of thing you promote on, they've probably already filmed it and it's like a documentary into family history laugh.gif

I mean her team wouldn't get her in a TV show or a documentary like that at a time she has nothing to sell. Cheryl has always been as much low profile as possible outside of album campaigns, she doesn't get her name in the media just for the sake of it, so if this documentary is aired this autumn, it probably means her team is planning to release music around that time.

Guys, it's just basic PR knowledge, labels and marketing teams get celebrities on TV as much as possible when they have stuff out, even if the show/documentary is not directly linked to their music. Is it really that hard to understand?
And yes, Cheryl has always been avoiding TV programs outside of album campaigns. She never does the odd documentary or TV show when she has nothing new out.

All I'm saying is that the documentary airing this autumn probably means they are planing to release the new album or single this autumn and they're scheduling TV programs for maximum impact.

Surely with this show, it's not up to the label to decide whether she gets on?

The decision might not be up to the label, but the timing can be influenced: once she's asked, she doesn't have to be involved straight away, it's possible to wait a while until the airing of the program can coincide with her other activities.

Maybe that theory was wrong, then? smile.gif

I like the shows where they uncover the roots of a family 'scandal', only to find it's something that would be considered no big deal today.
