they all posted the same picture on their instagram stories (a picture saying 'no photos') and ingrosso posted a picture of them all together, so it seems as though theyre back. also they performed together today at Ultra Music Festival.
also spotify added a new 'This Is: SHM' playlist on saturday.

As much as I loved them, Don't You Worry Child was a perfect swan song for what was an excellent back catalogue that I'm not sure needs any additions. Not that I wouldn't totally be up for them showing modern producers how dance is done though.

A track with Lil Wayne called 'Yeah' has surfaced this weekend. Apparently it was recorded some time ago, and tbh it isn't anything that I expected from them. I'm hoping it's an old/unused track and not an expectation of things to come.

The production is good though, obviously though the vocal makes it sound a bit like a novelty track

Countdown timer has appeared on their website! It's counting down to Monday. Probably going to just be a tour announcement but it'd be nice for it to be new music!

It has been almost a week since Swedish House Mafia updated their website to include a countdown timer. Today at 5 a.m. EST the countdown clock ended and the timer became a live video.
At about 5:10 a.m. the guys came into frame and began a press conference entirely in Swedish. During the conference Steve, Seb and Axwell spoke about why they broke up, and why they decided now was time to return.
The guys noted that positive response to their Ultra reunion, and how the man who organized the reunion was brought to tears when he saw them back together.
New Music
When asked about new music, the guys confirmed they have already been working on new music, and it will be similar to the music of today, but still in the style of Swedish House Mafia.
They did not explain further what “the music of today” sound means to them but we can only imagine that the sound of Swedish House Mafia will be updated.
New Performances
When asked about touring the guys were STILL tight-lipped, citing that only one show has been confirmed. Stockholm, Sweden on May 4th, 2019 at Tele2 arena will be the next Swedish House Mafia performance. They did say more dates would be announced later.
More Information
When asked about the guy's individual side projects they explained that moving forward they will be giving 100% attention to Swedish House Mafia. Steve Angello and Axwell/\Ingrosso will be put on hold indefinitely.
When asked about if they regretted breaking up 5 years ago, they all agreed that it was the right choice. They were sick of Swedish House Mafia and needed a break. Now, they believe the time has come to once again join forces.
Amazing to finally have it confirmed that there will be new music from them!!!

oh other than that (plus them taking about 5 minutes to stop the music halfway in and jump on the mic) it was great (although very crowded from where I was)! loads of big pyrotechnics (they had to close the stage the whole of the rest of the day to set them up) and got to hear all their bangers on big loudspeakers.

This isn't that bad? Needs a proper drop granted and is all build and no substance, but that build is pretty delicious and there's still some hints of the hard sound they were known for, at least it shows their proper single will be an out and out banger rather than something more subdued which would've sucked.

After a few listens I like Lifetime although its certainly not what I was expecting. The production is a bit Daft Punk-esque. The verses are great with a very good vocal and I especially like the second verse with the buildup but the production in the second chorus after that big buildup is perhaps a bit underwhelming.

I really don't get the reception to 'It Gets Better' - a much better comeback single from them than I was expecting to be honest! (I had low expectations even before seeing the reception here because they released too few songs to really put a stain on their discography, it was bound to happen eventually - having said that I'm still in my hot take of thinking 'Don't You Worry Child' was comfortably their weakest song and the massive overplay didn't help ) I get that it's maybe not what people wanted from a comeback single from them as it's not exactly a massive banger in the same way as their previous singles but I'm surprised so many people are saying it's bad. Reminds me a little of some of Prospa's songs.
I've not heard 'Lifetime' yet, I reserve the right to turn around and agree with that being garbage x

They've really f***ed this up haven't they.
A mid-summer release when festivals were coming back, the sun was coming out and people were partying again could have been explosive and they'd have got in before the global megastars like Adele, Abba, Sheeran etc.
Instead they're going to get drowned out in the background among those who haven't been turned off by the shit singles.

the lead slightly reminded me of Leave The World Behind, the other part - I can't explain correctly, it's like Lifetime, I guess, meets some of their old singles, and then the Weeknd came. Feel like zero connection between his voice and the instrumental. But that's just me maybe.

I like it, although the beat may be slower, there's still a nostagic hint of the old SHM in the production which their previous two tracks didn't have. And its another good track from the Weeknd too.

This is more like it! Quite subtle but a really well produced song and great lyrics, it's very moody! Not something I'd associate with SHM but it works well for the Weeknd, a good collab of both styles!

Sting of all people being a collaborator was raising an eyebrow for me but I should have figured it would just be a sample of 'Roxanne' - it's another good song from them anyway, I'm not finding myself getting quite as obsessed with their post-comeback material as I was with their original run of singles but they've still been pretty consistently quality imo (apart from 'Lifetime' although that was still ok).

Highlights from my first listen:
Time - a decent opener Heaven Takes You Home - why wasn't this a single?? The little piano intro for Moth To A Flame Mafia - pretty cool instrumental The final couple of minutes in Don't Go Mad from the build up It Gets Better - don't know why everyone hates it here, it slaps Redlight - the more I listen to it the more I enjoy it Can U Feel It - great beats For You - lovely chilled closer, stunning vocals and production
Despite the lack of pre-orders, it has gone Top 10 (just) on iTunes!

alongside Heaven, Moth and Redlight the other highlights for me were Time, Calling On, Don’t Go Mad and For You.
but at least half of it I don’t really fancy going back to which is a bit of a shame but to be expected given some of the single releases. particularly don’t think the trap/downtempo tracks suit them but at least there’s a fair share of actual house tracks I guess.

Finally getting around to giving this one a first play this evening, I have mixed feelings but generally agree with what most are saying, and predictably favouring Heaven Takes You Home with the happy news that it is the next single after Redlight flopped.

"Heaven Takes You Home" is probably the best of all, although it doesn't really satisfy me a lot. "Time" is pretty future house-ish, so ok. But, the vocals might be forgettable.

I doubt SHM care enough about having a slightly higher chart position to go against their artistic integrity and tack all their old hits on the album when they've changed their sound a lot since.
The album's at #51 in today's mids so hopefully it can end up scraping the chart anyhow. Likewise Heaven Takes You Home is at #90 in the singles.

I didn't like 'Heaven Takes You Home' at all (Connie's voice is a no) but actually really enjoyed nearly all of the rest of the album so I guess I'm basically the opposite to everyone else here
Obviously it's very different from their old stuff but I am liking their new sound(s) as well - think my current top 5 from the album tracks are (not in order) 'Can U Feel It', 'Don't Go Mad', 'Home', 'Mafia' and 'Time'. Never realised the outro snippet in the music video for 'Moth To A Flame' was actually teasing a new song so it was hype to hear that at the start of 'Mafia' again *.* 'Home' is such a vibe as well, I've been tending to find the more ambient/chill tracks on electronic albums underwhelming lately but this is a big exception, that's actually a contender for my fave on the whole thing.
'Frankenstein' feels quite out of place on here but it's still a bit of a banger (I see it's actually a song that leaked years ago lol so yay for it getting a belated release I suppose). '19.30' is fab too but needs to be like twice as long as it is. I thought the vocalist on 'Another Minute' sounded a lot like 070 Shake again, looked it up and it is indeed her, so curious why she's not credited on that when she is on 'Lifetime'? I much prefer this song anyway, 'Lifetime' was a little better than I remembered it being but still probably my 2nd least favourite on the album after 'Heaven Takes You Home'.
'It Gets Better' still bangs as well, y'all underrated that way too hard.

Looking back at the year, Paradise again was one of my favourite albums. One of the main reasons is probably the dark aesthetic to the project. Really loved Redlight, Time, Heaven Takes You Home, Frankenstein and most of all, the best dance song of 2021 Moth To A Flame. I see the Vinyl is out on January 20th.
