Before we kick off the main events, featuring the top albums and songs from 2018, let's have a look at my 2018 Wrapped by Spotify. Will it be any reflection of what's to come at all or completely different? We'll soon find out! ohmy.gif

With 24,437 minutes spent listening to songs on Spotify this year (my primary and, potentially, only source), it's been a busy year. 66 hours of that time was spent listening to Shawn Mendes - my top artist of 2018. Shawn also manages first place in my list of top songs with In My Blood, the first single from his self-titled album released this year. Also on the list of top artists are Kylie Minogue who released her fourteenth studio album this year, Golden, and Dua Lipa who I only started to take notice of in a big way in the first quarter of the year before heading to see her on tour. IDGAF, taken from her début album, also manages to make it into the list of top songs.

Taking the fourth and fifth spots in the list of top artists are Demi Lovato and Troye Sivan. Although Demi's been absent from music due to incredibly unfortunate and saddening circumstances, that hasn't stopped her racking up some plays with her incredibly emotional song Sober which manages to place in my top songs of the year also. I was also lucky to see her on tour in June and that was a very special and memorable night! Having released his second album Bloom this year, Troye's also racked up a lot of plays and will likely continue to into 2019 as his UK tour approaches.

Finally, also making the list of top songs of the year are Wild Love by James Bay and Let You Love Me by Rita Ora - both songs that I've enjoyed a lot throughout the year. Admittedly, to me, there are a couple of surprises in each list - but what does this mean for the EOY charts?

Stay tuned for my top albums of 2018, coming very soon!

Yeah not surprised to see Shawn at the top of your list laugh.gif Will be interesting to see how close your EOY Top 5 is to your Spotify top songs!

It's time to kick things off, starting with my top 30 albums of 2018! Since my personal chart has been absent for most of the year (fourth time lucky?) there'll be no chart runs featured in both the albums and songs countdowns. For albums however, you'll see some of my personal favourites and highlights from each paired with the usual commentary. Also worth noting is that, for a while this year, I had stopped listening to music a lot more than I did/now do. It took quite the backseat while a very busy work life took over, so the albums featured in the countdown may end up being predominantly from the second half of the year onwards.

It has been a brilliant year for albums though with plenty to enjoy, so let's go~

30

Jagwar Twin
Subject to Flooding

This is an album I was introduced to by Joseph, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it turned out to be. There's a lot to like on it, and it's a nice project. Unfortunately I haven't found myself going back to listen through many times since I did a few times initially, but there are tracks like Loser and Good Day that draw me back in and that I still listen to separately. Other album highlights include Move to You and Superhuman. Both parts of Hell of a Night, the second in particular, prove a great way to bring the album to a close also.

Highlights
Loser
Good Day
Move to You

Alec Benjamin
Narrated For You

Another album that I listened to by Joseph's recommendation / seeing the name all over his chart. Once again, I was very surprised when I listened. I'd heard maybe one track by Alec Benjamin before I listened to the album and don't remember being blown away, but this album is thoroughly enjoyable with brilliant storytelling throughout. Tracks like Death of a Hero, Steve and 1994 capture this perfectly. Other highlights from the album for me include Let Me Down Slowly and the opening song from the album, If We Have Each Other.

KT Tunstall
WAX

I only realised KT had a new album out when I saw on Twitter that she'd announced tour dates and will be playing very close to where I live, so I had to check it out as soon as possible. While it doesn't quite reach any of the same highs as older album Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon, this album has some gems on it. The River, Dark Side of Me, The Mountain and Tiny Love are all shining examples of how great KT is and can be. Starting a trend with each of the albums in this section, it's not one that I've gone back to a lot but if I decide to see her on tour I'm sure that'll encourage me to listen a lot more in the near future - as well as diving back into some of her older material.

Highlights
The River
The Mountain
Dark Side of Me

Panic! At the Disco
Pray For the Wicked

I'd never actually listened to an album by Panic! before Pray For the Wicked, so I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to give this a shot after seeing it and High Hopes around Spotify and creeping into my Discover Weekly. It's a great album and has some really great songs on it. The likes of High Hopes and Hey Look Ma, I Made It are tunes and Dying in LA, slowing things down, closes the album perfectly. I haven't gone back to the album as much as I should have, but the times I've listened each song grows a little more and I'm intrigued to make my way through their back catalogue now and see how this album compares!

Highlights
Dying in LA
Hey Look Ma, I Made It
High Hopes

Years & Years
Palo Santo

This is an album that I've not really had the urge to revisit since I familiarised myself with it and, unfortunately, most of the best songs on the album are the singles. All For You and If You're Over Me are both among Y&Y's best songs, I think. Sanctify on the other hand didn't really fill me with much hope for their sophomore album. Overall, the album is a decent enough listen with some standouts like Rendezvous, Karma and Lucky Escape scattered throughout but it doesn't draw me back in the same way their first album did.

The KT album is really good but I've not gone back to it since release week, I really need to listen again! Also stanning Panic's album (high hopes is my fave song by them ever) and Palo Santo was also a quite strong album (def agree with both your comments regarding All For You and Sanctify). <3

Tho I hated Alec Benjamin's album haha, Joseph also tried to get me into him but failed with me x kink.gif

Tori Kelly
Hiding Place

Finishing slightly lower than she probably would have if the album she'd released was more similar in style to her début Unbreakable Smile, is Tori Kelly with her gospel-inspired second album Hiding Place. I was quite surprised this was the path she chose to follow, but I think there are some very beautiful songs on this album and I'm such a sucker for a gospel choir. So although it's not the Tori I came to love with singles like Nobody Love and Should've Been Us, this album certainly hasn't driven me away and leaves me excited to see where she goes next!

Various Artists
The Greatest Showman: Reimagined

Up next is the first of (spoiler!) one or two soundtrack albums to feature in the countdown. Overall this album is quite the pleasant surprise. When I heard we'd be getting an album of covers of The Greatest Showman's soundtrack, I was worried because I love the original soundtrack, and the film, so much. That said, James Arthur and Anne-Marie's version of Rewrite the Stars is abhorrent. Not one that I go back to at all because it's such a damp squib in comparison to Zac and Zendaya's take. Some standouts from this though come in the form of Years & Years and Jess Glynne's very inspired take on Come Alive, as well as Kelly Clarkson's Never Enough and P!nk's A Million Dreams.

Highlights
P!nk - A Million Dreams
Panic! At the Disco - The Greatest Show
Kelly Clarkson - Never Enough

Charlie Puth
Voicenotes

After not paying much attention to Nine Track Mind (singles aside), I've taken a lot more notice of this album. Charlie Puth's second album has a lot to enjoy on it, particularly singles Attention and How Long - both of which improve upon the sound of previous singles. Other highlights from the album for me are The Way I Am, Through It All and Done For Me, featuring Khelani. This album really makes me want to see Charlie live at some point, and I'm already going back to familiarise myself with Nine Track Mind too.

Highlights
The Way I Am
Attention
Through It All

Sigala
Brighter Days

Although there were many singles already out there before the eventual release of this album, there's still a lot to enjoy in terms of album tracks. My personal highlight from the album is the HRVY and Nina Nesbitt collaboration that I had no clue about going into the album and it's a TUNE. My other favourites are collaborations with The Vamps and Kylie Minogue, and both of Ella Eyre's contributions are great. Just Got Paid was pretty annoying to begin with, but the more I've heard it the more it's grown on me. Overall, although this is mostly an album of Sigala's singles to date, it's really solid with some great featured artists that really make it something special.

Highlights
We Don't Care (with The Vamps)
Somebody (feat. HRVY & Nina Nesbitt)
What You Waiting For (feat. Kylie Minogue)

Benjamin Ingrosso
Identification

This is another album that I found myself listening to after seeing Benjamin lurking in Joseph's chart. kink.gif I'd heard of Benjamin before the album was released and had been a fan of his singles, but wasn't aware he was releasing an album and when I first listened it was fantastic! It's full of great songs, and singles like I Wouldn't Know and Behave are the icing on the cake. Other highlights from the album that really made me love it include Dance You Off and If This Bed Could Talk, the latter of which is an beautiful ballad. Admittedly this album didn't stick around at #1 for long in my chart, but I've got a lot of love for it and it was a great surprise discovery!

Pray For The Wicked is an ALBUM, I've always liked Panic but never stanned and this era proper got me into all their stuff wub.gif Yas at Reimagined stanning too, and flawless highlights from it *.*

Nice to see WAX here, The River is a really great indie piece and Human Being is growing on me as well now. I've enjoyed the album tracks from Brighter Days as well, although my favourites are Brighter Days and All For Love as well as WYWF.

Posted by: Riser 18th December 2018, 05:21 AM

Hey Calum, ooh I'm pleased to see Tori Kelly here! Haven't listened to Hiding Place yet but 'Never Alone' has grown on me more than I expected it too, so I'm pretty eager to hear more of the album now (will start with those three highlights magic.gif). Not my genre of choice either but it's all about her vocals anyway!!

Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper
A Star Is Born

Another soundtrack album now, and this time it's Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's from their feature A Star Is Born. I must admit (also considering I've only watched once) when I went to the cinema to see the film itself with my friend, I was left a little disappointed. It had brilliant moments scattered throughout, but for the first 45 minutes or so I found myself bored. But that doesn't take anything away from the soundtrack - it's probably one of the best things about the whole thing. The likes of Shallow and I'll Never Love Again are phenomenal. After feeling I NEEDED to see this from the teasers of Shallow in the TV advert, the moment surpassed my expectations and I had goosebumps. I'll Never Love Again is an incredibly moving song too, coupled with some pretty difficult scenes from the film.

Shallow
I'll Never Love Again
Always Remember Us This Way

Alvaro Soler
Mar De Colores

Another album I need to thank somebody for introducing me to (no, it's not Joseph this time x). I discovered this album after I'd started compiling the Albums Multichart and peeping at sergejdordi98's albums and I wasn't disappointed after checking it out on Spotify. It's an album full of many bops, and probably one of my very few ventures into foreign-language music. Songs like La Cintura and Bonita are so feel good, and another real highlight from the album is Te Quiero Lento. The album also inspired me to check out Alvaro's back catalogue, and although there's not much more material to listen to, what is available has also been great!

Highlights
La Cintura
Te Quiero Lento
Bonita

Carrie Underwood
Cry Pretty

As I've already said, I was pretty withdrawn from music for the first few months of the year, so I didn't have any clue Carrie was so close to releasing a new album. I hadn't properly listened to an album of hers since Blown Away, so I wasn't familiar at all with Storyteller or anything she'd been up to since. Cry Pretty feels, to me, like picking up where Blown Away left off and certainly doesn't disappoint. For a lead single, Love Wins is incredible; probably her best since the likes of See You Again and Blown Away. There's so much more to enjoy on the album though. Southbound is great and Kingdom, closer to the album's end, is beautiful and rather emotional.

Highlights
Southbound
Love Wins
Kingdom

Camila Cabello
Camila

This album has really taken its time to grow on me. Every time I listen each song sounds better than before, and there's so many raw lyrics throughout. I think when Havana was first released I wasn't a fan, but now I absolutely love it! The clear highlight of her début solo album, by a long shot, is Consequences. It's a heartbreaking ballad and one that you can really relate to and even if not, really empathise. Other highlights from the album include Something's Gotta Give, She Loves Control and Never Be the Same. Overall, it's an incredibly strong effort, and I can't wait to see what she brings to the table in future! (more ballads please if they'll be as good as Consequences)

Highlights
Consequences
Havana
She Loves Control

James Bay
Electric Light

James Bay's second album definitely isn't as great as his début album, however I do think there's still a lot of good material on it. When he first announced his comeback I was blown away by his change of look (he suddenly got hot af kink.gif), as well as hearing of the change of style for his sophomore offering. Wild Love clicked instantly with me, and has become one of my most played songs of the year as a result. I still have so much love for it and its spark hasn't died. Other highlights from the album include Just For Tonight and Us - however the only tracks I'm not so keen on are the likes of Pink Lemonade. I'll take the bad with the good though.

Still love Alvaro Soler but his output this time round hasn't been as good as his stuff in the past sad.gif I've heard La Cintura, Ella and Puebla and all were nice enough pieces but none of them grabbed me like I wanted them to. Maybe I should have listened to the rest of the album, any recommendations?

I'd probably recommend everything on the album tbh. Most of it is pretty similar to La Cintura if I'm honest. Just all round fun in general and a decent enough listen! laugh.gif

5 Seconds of Summer
Youngblood

After 5SOS dropped Want You Back, I was SO ready for this album - a change in style that seemed to suit them perfectly and they were headed in the right direction after having major success with each album before. Yet while Want You Back was fantastic and Youngblood is probably one of their best singles to date, the album tracks are where things start to disappoint. While appreciating that every artist experiments with their style, the likes of Valentine and More just don't do it for me at all. The highlights of this album though, singles aside, are very clearly Lie to Me (which is such a lovely track), Ghost of You and Monster Among Men.

Motion Picture Cast Recording
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Another soundtrack album now as we get closer to the top 10 albums of the year, and this time it's the follow-up to the hugely successful Mamma Mia, this time prominently featuring Lily James - a very welcome change from the overbearing Amanda Seyfried in the first film's soundtrack. Although for me the sequel's soundtrack isn't quite as fantastic as the first there are so many new versions of songs to enjoy here - as well as some new ABBA covers, i.e. Andante, Andante and Fernando; among the album highlights. Cher's Fernando scene remains one of the best (and funniest) moments of the film. Lily James is the true star of both the film and the soundtrack though. Her vocals are consistently good and she brings so much personality to the likes of When I Kissed the Teacher, Waterloo and Knowing Me, Knowing You.

Highlights
When I Kissed the Teacher

Amy MacDonald
Woman of the World (The Best of 2007 - 2018)

Greatest hits time and Amy MacDonald has finally come up for air and released one having spent the first ten years of her career releasing four brilliant albums. Including singles and favourite album tracks from This Is the Life, A Curious Thing, Life in a Beautiful Light and Under Stars - Woman of the World is a real celebration of the amazing songs she's written over the years. The new single of the same name to accompany the album, Woman of the World, is a nice up-beat track too and seems like a more abstract and delicate version of Thursday by Jess Glynne or Perfect by Anne-Marie, celebrating her achievements while at the same time still empowering. The only downfall of this album is that there aren't more new songs, but the two we did get are Amy at her best.

Highlights
Woman of the World
Left That Body Long Ago
Run

12

The Vamps
Night & Day (Day Edition)

This is probably the one album by The Vamps that I've listened to least, yet it has some fantastic songs on it! It's not my favourite by them, but there's a couple of songs that I'll probably consider personal favourites a couple of years down the line. The likes of Personal and Hair Too Long carry the album well. Album tracks What Your Father Says and Pictures of Us are fantastic and among the best that the album has to offer. Although not altering their style of music too much, the album does seem a lot different to its counterpart Night Edition, and if you put them together they'd make for a wonderful album overall (perhaps with a few filler tracks trimmed off though).

Ariana Grande
Sweetener

Just missing out on a spot in my top 10 albums of 2018 is Ariana Grande's latest album Sweetener. I was torn about this album when I first listened. The first half of the album is a lot weaker than the second half I think. I don't get the fuss for tracks like REM, the light is coming, etc - whereas as the album progresses and we get to breathin, God is a woman and no tears to cry it really kicks up a gear and it's a magnificent treat for the ears. Other highlights include goodnight n go and borderline. It's not my favourite Ariana album by any means, but I do go back to it a lot and it includes one or two real career-defining moments.

God is a woman
goodnight n go

Why Don't We
8 Letters

Yet another album I was inspired to listen to after seeing them dominating Joseph's chart throughout the year - and what an album this is. I've listened to it a fair amount, and all of the songs grow on me more each time. Talk and Hooked are among the best on the album as well as 8 Letters which is an adorable track. All of the songs on the album are all pretty great, to be honest. This has also encouraged me to discover more of their music, and recently with the build up to Christmas I've been playing their Christmas EP, and also impulsively bought their new book in Asda for myself. laugh.gif Definitely looking forward to hearing more from them in the future!

Jess Glynne
Always In Between

Where to start with Glynne? She's been quite hit and miss for me this year. I'll Be There is probably one of my favourite songs by her. All I Am, I'm not a massive fan of. Thursday I hated to begin with, but it's grown on me a bit and I enjoy it when I hear it on the radio now, but it's not one I go back to a lot when listening to this album. For its few faults, the album itself is actually, surprisingly, really impressive. Songs like No One, 123 and Rollin are so feel-good, and all have the generic Jess Glynne vibe we've come to know as she churns out Hold My Hand after Hold My Hand. I probably enjoy this a LOT more than her début album I Cry When I Laugh which, singles aside, wasn't particularly outstanding.

Highlights
I'll Be There
No One
Rollin

Anne-Marie
Speak Your Mind

It's taken a long time for me to love Speak Your Mind as much as I do now. It was probably 2002 that cemented it as one of the best albums of the year for me. That's probably my favourite single by Anne-Marie, but it's far from the only highlight on an album that is pretty much jam-packed with TUNES. The likes of Ciao Adios, Heavy, Alarm and FRIENDS make this an incredibly strong album. It does have a few duds, and at least one or two songs that I'd rather not pay much attention to or go back to (i.e. Perfect), but take the good with the bad, and she had to end her streak of amazing singles sooner or later. I'm excited to see what she does with her next album now, and hopefully it includes as many fantastic tracks as this one has!

Highlights
2002
Ciao Adios
Heavy

7

Little Mix
LM5

When I first listened to LM5 it was... interesting, to say the least. I think it was probably the first album of Little Mix's that I wasn't 100% sold on on first listen (even Salute had a few bops in it to outweigh the lows). The likes of Joan of Arc, Wasabi and Strip just seemed a little too weird to me. Admittedly, Strip and Wasabi have massively grown on me after many listens now. The clear highlights of the album for me though are some of the ballads, as well as the more 'typical' Little Mix songs. The Cure, Think About Us, Forget You Not, American Boy and Monster In Me are all absolutely incredible, and will probably be remembered, by me, as some of the best songs of their career. While it probably won't go down as my favourite Little Mix album by any means, it's definitely a really strong one with a mix of real experimentation and classic Little Mix.

Highlights
The Cure
Think About Us
Forget You Not

Jonas Blue
Blue

Blue was another real surprise for me this year. I didn't expect to love it as much as I do and didn't even know it was being released until I saw it under new releases on Spotify. With so many incredible feature artists, it was inevitable that this was going to be an album full of fantastic songs. Rise and Drink to You are the highlights of the album - both Zak Abel and Jack & Jack's collaborations are spot on, while Liam Payne and Lennon Stella's Polaroid also puts up a good fight. Nina Nesbitt's appearance is also very welcome and that collab really stands out as a favourite too. There are some tracks that I'm not so keen on, but overall this album delivers the goods in a lot of ways.

Motion Picture Cast Recording
The Greatest Showman

Heading into the top 5 now and the highest soundtrack album is The Greatest Showman! Not only is this probably among my favourite films of the last few years or so, the soundtrack is incredible! With some songs that focus on the theme of being 'good enough', and other songs that just make you feel so good inside and want to get up and dance, it's the perfect blend of melodies to make you go back and watch the film time and time again. The clear highlight from the album for me is Rewrite the Stars. Zac Efron and Zendaya's performance of the song in the film is unmatched by any other moment. It's beautiful, and it made me really click with the characters. Zendaya's vocals shine so much, particularly in the latter half. Other highlights from the soundtrack include Never Enough, a stunning performance from Loren Allred, as well as A Million Dreams, This Is Me and The Greatest Show which was the perfect way to open the film and introduce us to their world.

Rita Ora
Phoenix

The newest album to feature here in the top 5 albums of 2018 is Rita Ora's sophomore album, Phoenix. This has been one of my most anticipated albums (for the last 84 years x), and it's great to say that she certainly didn't disappoint. It wasn't going to be difficult to match or excel the strengths of ORA as I feel the highs of that album were mostly the singles. Nothing else seemed to stand out in a major way, but there are a lot of players on Phoenix! The likes of Only Want You, First Time High, Soul Survivor and Cashmere prove that it's not just a bunch of hit singles and some filler material. Obviously, some of the singles are absolutely fantastic - including Let You Love Me (my personal favourite), Anywhere, Girls and Your Song. After hearing her perform some of the tracks on her tour earlier in the year, I was so ready for this (particularly Soul Survivor which was incredibly emotional; particularly hearing her talk about its meaning). Rita delivered the goods after a long time away focusing on other projects!

Troye Sivan
Bloom

Possibly one of the biggest surprises of the year for me is Bloom - Troye Sivan's second album, follow-up to Blue Neighbourhood. I had never really paid much attention to Blue Neighbourhood besides the singles. I'd followed him during the release of his TRXYE EP, as well as the first few singles, and then re-joined him at a later point when he released Heaven with Betty Who (which is undoubtedly one of the best songs he's released, if not the best). Bloom, however, upon first listen struck a chord immediately and every song has formed a special place in my heart. There are a couple of songs that I don't tend to go back to, i.e. Dance to This, What a Heavenly Way to Die; but they're both still essential in forming such a beautiful album. Tracks like Seventeen, Postcard, Bloom and Plum all serve as excellent portrayals of falling in love, the journey while in love, falling out of love, exploring your sexuality, etc - something extremely pivotal in this album, and something so relatable also! Tracks like Lucky Strike, My My My! and The Good Side are also incredible. While the album's short and sweet, it's jam-packed full of songs that you can't wait to play again - and I can't wait to hear them on his 2019 tour!

Kylie Minogue
Golden

Golden was a strange one for me. Obviously I listened as soon as it was released, but at the time never went back to it again. It was only a month or so before I was due to see her live in Glasgow that I started listening to the album again and everything suddenly fell into place. Dancing was a great choice for lead single from the album, and it's undoubtedly such classic Kylie blended with the 'country' vibe that this album follows a lot throughout, but there's so much more on the album that cements this as, for sure, one of her strongest and most cohesive of late. Lost Without You is one of the strongest on the album. It's certainly proven to be a fan favourite among many, and the performance from the Golden tour was beautiful. Kylie's vocals were on point, and a breathtaking light show did the song justice and then some. Other highlights from the album include A Lifetime to Repair - a song that has continued to grow on me SO much after repeated listens. It's such a fun, feel-good track, while at the same time carrying a more emotional meaning through its lyrics. Stop Me From Falling is such a feel-good, dance-along track that always makes me happy, and it's definitely up there with Lost Without You as my favourite from the album. When Kylie slows things down, tracks like Sincerely Yours, Shelby '68 and Radio On are really beautiful, and probably some of her better ballads and mid-tempo tracks. Overall, this is a standout Kylie album following on from the likes of X and Aphrodite, and one that I'm sure will continue to provide a lot of joy!

Shawn Mendes
Shawn Mendes

I don't know if there are enough words to describe how much I love Shawn Mendes' third, self-titled album, but I'll give it a go anyway because it's come to mean so much to me over the course of the year, and I'm sure it will continue to as we head into 2019 and beyond. After hearing In My Blood, which is undoubtedly one of his rawest, most emotional and vulnerable songs to date (more on that at a later time), I was SO ready for what was to come with this album. What I love about this album is that Shawn wasn't scared to tackle serious issues and extend a vital message with his lyrics, i.e. mental health in In My Blood, terrorism in Youth, and of course crushes, love and heartbreak for most of the album. Nothing could have prepared me for the album that we ended up with though. I've only listed five highlights below, but almost the entire album has a special place in my heart, and each and every one of them are relatable in some way, shape and form. Fallin' All In You, Because I Had You, Lost in Japan and Queen are all so classically Shawn, but at the same time head in a new direction, following the trend of the album and exploring some more avenues of sound and style that Shawn hasn't yet done. Songs like Why and Perfectly Wrong, completely stripping things back, prove that his voice alone can serve the tea fans are searching for. Both are incredibly emotional, and prove that, like In My Blood, Shawn's very open and very honest lyrics can be very relatable. Some songs that I didn't quite take to at first have climbed their way up massively in my affections - mainly Where Were You in the Morning?, When You're Ready and Particular Taste. All three are very different, but all outstanding in their own way. With all that said about Shawn's third album, I still don't think he's peaked yet as an artist, and think there are many more avenues he can continue to explore, and many more hits he can surprise us with, so I'm incredibly excited to see what his fourth album brings to the table. In the meantime, I'll look forward to reliving this album many times on Spotify, and hearing them all on his tour in 2019! heart.gif

Golden was a good mix of country and dance pop. Favourite tracks: Music's Too Sad Without You, Raining Glitter.
From what I've heard, Shawn Mendes' new material sounds very good, Lost In Japan and Youth being my favourites from him this year.

Not surprised to see Shawn take the title! Youth is my favourite out of the tracks I've heard but there aren't any tracks I've particularly disliked either.

Raining Glitter is a great track too actually! I'm actually finding myself preferring the Lost in Japan remix to the original right now, but I still appreciate the original loads. kink.gif

hi.gif

Apologies for being such a flop with beginning the songs countdown. I've decided to condense the countdown into a top 30 of my favourites from throughout 2018. Although it's probably not a completely reflective list of my favourite songs from the year, the top 3 have been set in stone for a while so there's no changes there!

21 Kylie Minogue - Dancing
22 Rita Ora - Girls (feat. Charli XCX, Cardi B & Bebe Rexha)
23 Troye Sivan - Postcard (feat. Gordi)
24 Kylie Minogue - A Lifetime to Repair
25 Shawn Mendes - Nervous
26 Camila Cabello - Consequences
27 The Vamps - Personal (feat. Maggie Lindemann)
28 Kylie Minogue - Lost Without You
29 The Vamps - Hair Too Long
30 Why Don’t We - 8 Letters

Beginning the countdown at #30 we have 8 Letters by Why Don't We - a track from their début of the same name. This was one of the tracks that stood out instantly to me when listening through. Although there's so much to enjoy on their mini-album, this is a stand-out, and a change in pace from some of the others on offer.

Next up it's The Vamps with Hair Too Long, taken from the Day Edition of Night & Day. Not only that, but just a few places up we've got another single, Personal, featuring Maggie Lindemann of Pretty Girl fame. Both songs are so typically "The Vamps", and the added bonus of having Maggie feature is the icing on the cake (this was especially brilliant to hear live when she joined them on stage to perform both Personal and Pretty Girl). Hair Too Long is a bit more funky than some Vamps singles, but fantastic nonetheless, and Brad in the video is worth mentioning x

Kylie Minogue makes not one, not two but THREE appearances in this 21-30 section. Lowest of those is Lost Without You, my favourite album track from her fourteenth studio album Golden. Also featuring are singles Dancing and A Lifetime to Repair. All three of these were highlights from the Golden Tour, but as well as that three of the best that the album has to offer. A Lifetime to Repair took a little longer than the other two to click, but now I can't imagine ever disliking it / sleeping on it. Dancing proved the perfect way to kick off a new era for Kylie, and showed she can still give us the future classics we're waiting for!

Finally, we have entries here from Rita Ora, Troye Sivan, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. Girls - a collaboration that became just a tad controversial, albeit unjustifiably so in my eyes - is a damn good single from the campaign for Phoenix contrary to popular opinion. It's perfectly catchy pop and has great features from Bebe, Cardi and Charli. Postcard is one of my favourite album tracks from Troye's second album Bloom. It's rather emotional, but I can't put my finger on why really. The second "single", Nervous, taken from Shawn's self-titled third album also appears here. It's a brilliant song, but overshadowed somewhat by the single that came before it. And finishing the section off, ballad Consequences secures its place as probably my favourite of Camila's material - incredibly emotive, moving and powerful.

11 Shawn Mendes - Fallin’ All In You
12 Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey - The Middle
13 Clean Bandit - Solo (feat. Demi Lovato)
14 Ariana Grande - no tears left to cry
15 James Bay - Wild Love
16 5 Seconds of Summer - Youngblood
17 Shawn Mendes - Youth (feat. Khalid)
18 Jonas Blue - Rise (feat. Jack & Jack)
19 5 Seconds of Summer - Want You Back
20 Years & Years - All For You

At #20 is the third single from Years & Years' second studio album Palo Santo, All For You. This was by far and away my favourite song from the album when listening through, and it probably still is. There's a lot to enjoy on the album (even if it's no Communion), but this sticks out like a sore thumb as a would-be smash. It's one of the very few I actually go back to also, alongside If You're Over Me and a couple of other decent album tracks.

Just ahead of Years & Years are 5 Seconds of Summer with Want You Back, the lead single from their third album Youngblood. It's not the only song of theirs in this section though. The title track and second single Youngblood is up there at #16. Both songs are incredible. They convey the new sound that the band were going for with the album, while at the same time still sounding absolutely and 'classically' 5SOS. I wouldn't say both are a perfect representation of what's on offer throughout the rest of the album, but they're brilliant tracks nonetheless.

There's another double helping of Shawn Mendes this time too, with Youth, featuring Khalid, finishing at #17, and Fallin' All In You, an album track from his self-titled third album, up at #11. Both songs are incredible. Youth shines with its incredibly emotional message scattered throughout the lyrics, and Fallin' All In You is such a beauty further down on the track-list. It's one of my favourite non-singles, and I can't wait to hear both live (if the latter is performed) on his tour in April!

Wrapping up this section, we have songs from Jonas Blue featuring Jack & Jack, Ariana Grande, James Bay, Clean Bandit featuring Demi Lovato, and Zedd! Rise is one of those songs that just makes you feel amazing and want to get up and have the time of your life! It's the song that made me sit up and take notice of Jack & Jack, having been aware of them for some time but never listened to anything they'd done together. no tears left to cry, the lead single from Ariana's 2018 album Sweetener was and still is stunning. Speaking of stunning, I remember my first listen of Wild Love while I was at work checking out New Music Friday. I listened and thought it was pretty basic, but then I kept listening throughout the day and it's become, probably, my favourite song by James Bay. Solo is one of those songs that I played constantly in the car, jamming along to its pretty fantastic chorus, and The Middle I'd consider one of Zedd's best tracks to date with stunning vocals in there from Maren Morris.

Oh hi! x

I actually like everything so far!! Wild Love is probably my least fave here. A LOT of amazing songs:

11 Shawn Mendes - Fallin’ All In You Such a cute moment on the album
12 Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey - The Middle Adore this, definitely one of Zedd's finest moments for me - it seemed to have had a weirdly divisive response on BuzzJack though!
13 Clean Bandit - Solo (feat. Demi Lovato)
14 Ariana Grande - no tears left to cry wub.gif
15 James Bay - Wild Love
16 5 Seconds of Summer - Youngblood Their very best imo *.*
17 Shawn Mendes - Youth (feat. Khalid) The hit potential was there with this one, a shame it didn't get a proper push
18 Jonas Blue - Rise (feat. Jack & Jack)
19 5 Seconds of Summer - Want You Back
20 Years & Years - All For You
21 Kylie Minogue - Dancing heart.gif Honestly one of my favourite singles of her career! ohmy.gif
22 Rita Ora - Girls (feat. Charli XCX, Cardi B & Bebe Rexha)
23 Troye Sivan - Postcard (feat. Gordi) This didn't stand out to me during my first listens of Bloom, but gradually it presented itself to me as a beautiful moment on the album! Looking forward to the tour
24 Kylie Minogue - A Lifetime to Repair
25 Shawn Mendes - Nervous Bop! Like with Nervous, I can't believe his label floundered with this one, it should have been an easy hit...
26 Camila Cabello - Consequences
27 The Vamps - Personal (feat. Maggie Lindemann)
28 Kylie Minogue - Lost Without You wub.gif wub.gif What. a. song! A real shame it was only a deluxe bonus track, because this really was single worthy. I'm glad it had its moment in the sun with an incredibly memorable performance on tour though!

30 Why Don’t We - 8 Letters By far their best song imo!

Looking forward to the Top 10!

A fantastic selection of albums in too, my favourites are Shawn Mendes, Golden, Bloom, Phoenix and Sweetener biggrin.gif

oh Hey Jay heart.gif x

The Middle definitely is one of the best things (if not the) Zedd's done, don't see how it had such a polarising response! laugh.gif Youth was definitely wasted potential. sad.gif I guess they gave it a go by releasing the video, but they'd probably already used up all the hype for it with it being out there before the album's release.

Lost Without You, agreed, was 100% the most memorable moment of the tour. wub.gif Such beautiful production and her vocals were on point.

06 Kylie Minogue - Stop Me From Falling
07 Anne-Marie - 2002
08 Ariana Grande - God is a woman
09 5 Seconds of Summer - Lie to Me
10 Troye Sivan - Seventeen

Into the top 10 now, and kicking us off is the first track from Troye Sivan's second album Bloom - Seventeen. Although there's SO much to enjoy on the album what with it being full of incredible songs, this is still the one that stands out to me the most. Talking about looking for love at a young age, the song has a very deep meaning and a killer chorus. It's the one song that I go back to more-so than any of the others from the album, listening out-with it, and often on repeat for a while. At #9 is Lie to Me by 5 Seconds of Summer, a now-single from Youngblood, however long before it got the single treatment it was 100% my favourite song from their third studio album. It's such a cute, yet at the same time heartbreaking, song and you can't help but fall in love with the vocals on this. It really does trump the likes of Want You Back and Youngblood for me.

Completing this set, we have three incredible female artists. God is a woman is at #8, the second single to come from Sweetener. This really is such an incredible song and one that I couldn't help but play on repeat for a long time when it was released. Her live performances of the song have also been second to none; in terms of both production and vocals. The message of empowerment in this song is probably one of the best things about it too. 2002 by Anne-Marie is just ahead, and while it's probably quite divisive seeing as Anne-Marie has never been flavour of the month, there's no denying that this is an absolute BOP! With a chorus that you can't help but sing along to, and have the words stuck in your head for hours after, this really was one of the songs of 2018. I hadn't really paid too much attention to her before this (obviously I'd heard most singles, but none had really made me stan), and I haven't since because Perfect to Me and her duet with James Arthur on their shambolic cover of Rewrite the Stars have sent her plummeting to the lowest of lows.

Finally, Stop Me From Falling, the second single from Kylie Minogue's fourteenth studio album Golden, makes an appearance here. Just missing out on the top 5 is my favourite song from the album. It's really such a feel good song, while at the same time having a bit of a deeper meaning than on the surface. The only disappointing thing about the song for me is that I don't feel it got the right treatment on the tour, considering how much of a moment it could have been. Can't win them all though, and the studio version will always be incredible, classically fresh Kylie.

03 Selena Gomez - Back to You
04 Rita Ora - Let You Love Me
05 Ariana Grande - breathin

Leaving the top 2 songs of 2018 a mystery for just a tiny bit longer, we head into the top 5 now, and all three songs by female solo artists! At #5 is breathin by Ariana Grande, taken from Sweetener. This was immediately my favourite song from the album when I first listened, and still is now. It's Ariana at her best, I think, and such a great song to move along to~ It also managed a week at the top of my chart when we first got to hear it, and managed to stick around for some time after. If only the first half of the album (no tears left to cry and God is a woman aside) were as great and appealing as this proved to be!

At #4 we've got the 93rd single from Rita Ora's second studio album, Let You Love Me; quite possibly my favourite Rita single (sorry Anywhere x). It's got that powerful chorus (even more-so in its final one), and it's a song you can just get to know all of the words to and sing it badly at the top of the lungs whenever, wherever. This was also a chart-topper for me, and certainly, like breathin, managed to stay around for a while after dropping down the rankings. I still have so much love for this though, and it's a shining example of Phoenix being absolutely worth the wait we endured.

Just ahead of Rita at #3 is Selena Gomez with her single taken from the soundtrack for the second season of Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, Back to You. This was (obviously) one of THE songs of 2018. It's one of those ones I'd put on repeat in the car for any journey, turn the volume all the way up and just listen and smile, or sing along and just love life. When it was finally used in 13 Reasons Why, I had shivers. It's such a great song, and by far one of Selena's finest moments; although she does have a lot. My chart wasn't around when this was at its peak, but if it had been this would definitely have been, at the very least, a contender for the #1 spot, maybe even for several weeks. We'll just have to hope she comes back with something even better for the show's third season (it'll be difficult to top this!).

Let You Love Me was such a triumph for Rita heart.gif three superb pop songs there!!

01 Shawn Mendes - In My Blood
02 Demi Lovato - Sober

In any other year, this could well have been a top 2 solely comprising Shawn songs. However, 2018 was... a bit of a different year for me, personally. At #1 and #2 we have Shawn Mendes with the lead single In My Blood from his self-titled third album, and Demi Lovato with her incredibly emotional single Sober; detailing a recent relapse after being 'clean' for six years. I do still think that these two songs would have ended up very high on the list under different circumstances (particularly In My Blood), however the level of relatability, understanding and emotion that these songs gave me in 2018 were beyond inspiring, helping me in some of the darkest moments of my life.

What's so incredible about In My Blood is that it's not just about the song sounding fantastic, or Shawn's voice being as incredible as it is. With this, he managed to create lyrics that will, I'm sure, resonate with a huge amount of people. By opening up about his own vulnerabilities, insecurities and mental health, it gave so many other people the opportunity to let their voice be heard and try, somehow, to open up, let people in, and carry on through the dark and into the light. The lyrics of In My Blood are one of the things that kept me going throughout the majority of the year where my mental health was incredibly unstable, but through listening to the song, really absorbing the lyrics and taking them on to find my own light at the end of the tunnel, I looked for ways to help myself feel better, stronger and able to keep going; not giving up because it isn't in my blood.

While Demi was largely out of the public eye for the latter half of 2018, she certainly made an impact beforehand. Having managed to catch her on tour before she had to cancel later dates due to vocal issues, I was seriously impressed with the show and how she managed to push through and keep going to the end; how strong she was singing songs so close to her heart and sharing them with an arena full of people. Sober is full of so much raw emotion, telling your story so bluntly for people to hear and not holding anything back. Such a truthful three minutes that I go back to so often to remind myself that, at the end of the day, it's okay not to be okay. Demi's honesty and vulnerability was exposed, and it was even more heartbreaking hearing the events of her relapse unfold and I'm glad that she has, yet again, managed to begin her road to recovery, self-caring, self-loving and finding the strength within herself to fight the good fight.

Massive love for breathin too! I hope over time it isn't overshadowed by the likes of no tears left to cry, God is a woman and thank u, next, because it is too gorgeous to be forgotten wub.gif

Thanks Jordan! wub.gif Completely agree, In My Blood still sounds so fresh, always hits so hard too.

Agreed about breathin, it really is one of her best and although the others you mentioned are brilliant, I certainly hope breathin doesn't end up living in the shadows. sad.gif
