QUOTE
One thing she might be planning is a compilation of all her biggest songs, ahead of the 30th anniversary of her Especially For You collaboration with Jason Donovan in November.

Kylie added: “There’s talk of a greatest hits, which could be interesting.

Posted by: liamk97 26th September 2018, 11:12 PM

I had heard talk about a greatest hits earlier in the year... obviously there's 14 years and 4 studio albums between the last proper one but I don't know if there is need for one just yet. Perhaps if it ties in with Glastonbury and is a definitive collection it could work, but I think fans would rather see a rarities collection of sorts.

Posted by: ___∆___ 26th September 2018, 11:23 PM

If Kylie does do Glastonbury they would be mad not to either re-promote Ultimate Kylie or to release a new version - easy sales and what the general public will be looking for following on from her appearance.

Posted by: liamk97 26th September 2018, 11:25 PM

If not a new collection they definitely need to start reselling Ultimate Kylie should she be doing Glastonbury. Get it on Spotify too!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th September 2018, 12:33 AM

I'm not sure between re releasing ultimate kylie or go with a new definitive collection. For a casual buyer they could leave out the IP singles as only the fans really know them and probably the same could be said for songs like chocolare, where is the feeling, better than today, other songs like celebration, word is out,put yourself in my place, please stay, come into my world could all be left out to add songs from x,aphrodite and golden and it would tick the box for both casual buyers and fans. Some of those songs I named I love myself but I don't think they would be missed by those who casually follow her.

Posted by: liamk97 27th September 2018, 12:45 AM

Thing is, the 2012 Best of Kylie album is just fine for the casual fans.

Maybe something like the Nothing Has Changed compilation from Bowie where there's a 3 disc, 2 disc and single disc version would work and cater to all fans, casual or die hard.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th September 2018, 01:27 AM

Ya I would Def love something like that.I'd also love a b sides and rarities album but for sales and chart performance your idea would be best.

Available as 1 CD (for the casuals) or 2 CD standard editions and 3 CD deluxe edition, would be my dream

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th September 2018, 12:25 PM

I would be very happy with that but I would like at least 2 new tracks added on.

Posted by: pippa 27th September 2018, 01:18 PM

The 1, 2 and 3 cd formats would be wonderful.
The track listing below would be just wonderful.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 27th September 2018, 04:35 PM

I'd like to see a new compilation being released, to capitalise on the increased goodwill towards her. I'd ideally like it to be a definitive release though, one that includes the vast majority of her singles discography rather than a handful of hits. It really should have been out in time for Q4 but I assume it won't be.

Ultimate Kylie & The Best of Kylie Minogue aren't widely available any more, notably on iTunes she only has the 1992 Greatest Hits. An artist like her really should have an all-encompassing hits collection available!

Posted by: pippa 27th September 2018, 04:43 PM

The focus is on Golden for this year so i feel the Greatest Hits would be better to wait until next year and ideally released a good few ahead of her Glastonbury slot.
With such a vast amounts of hits Kylie has several options, but the 3 CD set version created by Stuart 25 would be sensational.

Agreed. It's really surprising an artist with a discography like her doesn't have a widely available, definitive collection. I don't understand the logic of letting an opportunity to pass by. The 1992 collection does well enough whenever she promotes so a more relevant collection would surely do even better.

Posted by: pippa 27th September 2018, 04:55 PM

Has Ultimate Kylie been deleted?

Posted by: liamk97 27th September 2018, 05:05 PM

Doesn't seem to get stocked anymore. I'm sure they cancelled it when the 2012 compilation was released.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 27th September 2018, 05:18 PM

I need Skirt to be on an album

Posted by: pippa 27th September 2018, 05:18 PM

For someone like Kylie a release such as Ultimate Kylie should be on-going, similar to Madonna's Immaculate Collection and Celebration Greatest Hits sets.
This way, it would continue to pick up low level sales that would over time, boost the overall sales.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th September 2018, 10:10 PM

Defo and ultimate kylie would have sold alot more if it was widely available at a good price.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 28th September 2018, 04:14 AM

Nowadays Ultimate Kylie would have generated many sales via streaming too!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 28th September 2018, 06:52 AM

It would have for sure as the best of isn't the best representation of kylie.

Posted by: pippa 28th September 2018, 01:30 PM

The Best Of was a rushed album and the track listing never felt like it was right.

Posted by: liamk97 28th September 2018, 01:31 PM

Still makes me laugh that it was apparently voted for by the fans and 'Celebration' is on there.

Posted by: pippa 28th September 2018, 01:38 PM

If truly voted for the fans, Celebration and Tears on My Pillow would have not made it.

Posted by: ___∆___ 30th September 2018, 05:40 PM

I’d love a straightforward GH with her singles in the order they were released, the further editions for fans that included her non-hits (GBI etc.,), b sides and Rarities.

Tragic that this is unavailable - an artist like Kylie should always have a comprehensive GH available as there are so many trickle sales and boosts to be had from promo etc., that makes it worthwhile for the record company to keep making copies available.

There are no hits collections in print aside from Hits+ and most of her comipilatiom albums are missing from iTunes and Spotify?! Can only assume it’s due to liscensing issues?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th September 2018, 08:30 PM

Ya id say its licencing issues but im sure there was a way for ultimate Kylie to continue been available.

Posted by: Medellíam 28th April 2019, 02:14 PM

Posted by: Hide&Seek 28th April 2019, 09:03 PM

That first cover is all kinds of wonderful. wub.gif

Seeing as you have 21 tracks on the 2nd and 3rd disc , to make 21 tracks on the first disc , I'd lose Made In Heaven (even though I love it) , and replace with Turn It Into Love & It's No Secret .

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th April 2019, 03:24 AM

Love both covers and would love the track listing you have outlined.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 29th April 2019, 11:14 AM

are you allowed so many tracks on a CD? is it allowed to chart with all those?

Posted by: vibe 29th April 2019, 11:18 AM

She has so many GH albums maybe she should release an 'ultimate collection' like Whitney. A 1 disc collection that wont leave the charts.
Has this been done? I would consider myself a casual fan and think these songs would feature? I do love 'never too late' and 'change a thing' tho personally.

1. I Should Be So Lucky
2. The Locomotion
3. Hand On Your Heart
4. Especially For You
5. Better The Devil You Know
5. Step Back In Time
6. What Do I Have To Do?

18. I Believe In You
19. All The Lovers
20. Dancing

Posted by: SmileyKylie 29th April 2019, 11:22 AM

She had Ultimate Kylie already.

Fans want ALL the songs together and casual fans would buy too.

Posted by: Monzo 29th April 2019, 11:27 AM

I hope instead of a new GH, they release a "Golden: Singles Collection" including all remixes from her Golden era, just like Steps did last year with "Tears On The Dancefloor". That sold better than expected and it would be great for Kylie fans who bought all her physical singles in the past to have Golden singles on CD, too.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 29th April 2019, 11:36 AM

Her twitter handle etc is Step Back In Time shot..... Its not just going to be Golden stuff......

She has outdoor tours coming up including Glastonbury so it will be something Greatest Hits Wise.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th April 2019, 07:15 PM

It's all pointing to a new greatest hits which I'd be happy with if it has a good track listing.

Yes - I don’t think there is a limit on the number of tracks allowed on an album, compilation albums regularly chart containing 60 tracks.

You would miss out 'X' and 'Kiss Me Once' altogether ?! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 30th April 2019, 11:58 AM

I could imagine Kylie completely glossing over the Kiss Me Once era if I'm honest, although I hope she at least includes 'Into The Blue'.

Posted by: Medellíam 30th April 2019, 02:00 PM

Yeah I hope 'Into the Blue' is included too. I do get the sense that the Kiss Me Once album wants to be forgotten about but 'Into the Blue' deserves to be remembered and Kylie seemed very passionate about that song, if not much else of the album.

I imagine all the obvious hits will be included but I hope there's a few interesting choices. 'Your Disco Needs You' and 'The One' are considered Kylie classics among the fanbase and the casual fans will recognise them from her tours. 'Timebomb' deserves a home and other fan favourites like 'Turn It Into Love', 'Finer Feelings' and 'Breathe' would be great to see. I could see 'Music's Too Sad Without You' appearing as well.

I hope "Pop Precision Since 1987" is just a tagline and not actually part of the title. Just makes it very long winded and 'precision' seems like an odd word to use.

On first look I really like that tracking list! As I hoped, we've got 'The One', 'Your Disco Needs You' and 'Timebomb' on there. Surprised but so happy that '2 Hearts' and 'What Kind of Fool' are on there - did NOT see that happening! Shame no 'Into the Blue'.

'New York City' should really be on the first CD, no?

The artwork could be better - they at least could have taken a new photo! - but it's inoffensive.

The missing Top 40 hits:

Word is Out
If You Were With Me Now
Finer Feelings
Where is the Feeling
Some Kind of Bliss
Did It Again
Chocolate
Giving You Up
Better Than Today
Into the Blue

Disappointed to be honest. 1 new track which is basically an unused song from Golden. I have all the other songs so seems a pointless release to buy. Will probably just download NYC.

It's a good trackisting but 1 new song is a little disappointing, I'm not surprised she has just left kiss me once era off but I wish crystalize made the final cut.

Are they doing a cassette version.

The CD version covers a great amount of songs - of course there are some missing that I would have loved to be included but I hope that this album stays in print! This could pick up sales for years to come tbh.

In the Sun on Glastonbury and Greatest Hits

“In a part of my brain it’s all I think about. It’s such a big deal for me, that will be very emotional.

“I can’t really put it into words yet what I think it’s going to be like, aside from the fact that I hope it’s just a massive singalong and we can all travel together down memory lane.

“I guess the difficulty is choosing which songs to put in when I’ve got 75 minutes. I might have to do a little megamix at some point.”

With a greatest hits album on the way, 31 years in music under her belt and a crowning Glastonbury slot, it feels like the triumphant culmination of three decades of incredible highs and lows for Kylie.

She says: “I feel like it will really mark a point in time, and then I imagine I would look forward to having a clean slate and, as and when I get back in the studio, just getting back to business.

“I would look forward to doing a pop-disco album. That’s where I think I would head.”

It seems there’s plenty more years of spinning around to do yet.

Posted by: tommie 2nd May 2019, 08:06 AM

Why bother hiding New York City?

LOL at them ignoring the Kiss Me Once era. I guess it shows how much Kylie cares for that!

I won't buy this to be honest, I don't want another greatest hits from her clogging up space...

This version on amazon seems to have a slightly different track order - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07R44R8GQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_5QQYCbGNRC9NB

New York City on the first cd and not hidden. And only 9.99 for both cds

I actually really love the cover.

I was (sadly) expecting them to omit 'Into The Blue' as I do get the sense she wants to forget the Kiss Me Once era ever happened, also REALLY pains me to see 'Did It Again' not there with it being one of my ultimate faves but I do get why it isn't.

Hope that is correct! 'Breathe' put on the second disc too - both makes much more sense!

people who complain get a life. its £9.99 ..... you cant buy a packet of cigarettes for that and its much more healthy to have a dose of Kylie

I'm glad Timebomb made it in the end, Into the Blue was there instead on the first tracklist cut!

Posted by: davidas 2nd May 2019, 09:37 AM

Really disappointed by this.

How can they exclude Into the blue, when it was the lead single on Kiss Me Once and performed pretty well in the charts.

1 new song... what is the point??

Chocolate and Giving You Up are also Kylie classics in my opinion and both peaked at #6 in the charts, so why are they being excluded over songs which didn't even/barely scrape the top 40?

Could have been SO much better sad.gif

Posted by: SmileyKylie 2nd May 2019, 09:41 AM

Jay-Z probably wanted a cut of any £££ from Kiss Me Once so they omit it.

I don’t smoke though xox

...and I’m not buying any of these formats. I find them all very unappealing, unfortunately. The cassettes in particular look unattractive and are excessively priced. The vinyl only being half of the track list is very disappointing to me... the opportunity to do a lavish 4xLP box set including every track was surely there.

It comes across to me as being a very low effort project, right down to not even taking a new picture for the cover. So this is all a bit of a fail for me, sadly.

I’ll probably feel in the mood to stream the album when the time comes, but that’s it.

Please don’t be aggressive and say things like “get a life”, because that could equally be thrown back at people who buy any or all of the formats, and that’s not nice either... so don’t go the other way with it. Let people react how they want - whether that’s to make the decision to not buy anything, or to buy everything, or somewhere in between. You do you, but don’t insult others.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 2nd May 2019, 09:50 AM

get a life is not aggressive and certainly wasn't meant to be.

she doesnt force people to buy things and she only has 5 different cassettes etc because people buy them! lol

its obvious something like this was going to come out as this is what these concerts are for and Glastonbury.

She is not going to stand there and sing a whole new album at Glastonbury..... like any other artist she will do a collection of her hits.

i only ever buy 1 CD and i am a huge fan but some fans like the whole package and some (not me) can afford to buy the £130 package without even thinking of the price etc

Posted by: SmileyKylie 2nd May 2019, 10:16 AM

Looks like we will get New York City at 8.30am tomorrow after its first play on Radio 2 Zoe Ball.

should just release it at midnight and get it high on itunes before general public here it and some casual fans buy but hey. All good All good.

Its never going to chart, would be nice for a top 100 though

This Definitve will be on my wish list for Christmas, don't need to spend any money for it.

Tracklist could've been better, could've been worse. When it comes to listening to a Kylie Best of, I will prefer Ultimate.

I understand wanting to release a hits collection for Glastonbury — a massive emotional moment for her, but this is disappointingly lazy. It's 2019, streaming exists, and she already has numerous hits packages. Make it the actual 'Definitive Collection' — every single ever released, collaborations, reworks, demos, unreleased material, etc. Make it something worthwhile for the fans, rather than just another thing to buy.

Posted by: Dannyboy 2nd May 2019, 12:07 PM

I love this and think fans were quite dillusional over what they expected, 42 tracks ffs, this was never gonna be a 3cd release, some fans were always gonna be disappointed their favs aren’t there. My only gripe is I wish there was a dvd release of videos too.

It would have been nice to have had a few new tracks, ones that had proper placing on the album, but that's my only criticism really. The collection is much more definitive than I thought it would be; only a few losses but that's inevitable with any compilation. Ultimate Kylie is long out of stock and isn't even on streaming sites, so I'm glad that's about to be rectified with this release. I think it would have been good to have a third disc for the fans that included the Top 40 hits that missed out on the main edition and perhaps some fan favourites and B-sides - maybe have got the fans to vote for tracks that could appear, a bit like I think Girls Aloud did with Ten. So I do agree that more could have been done to make this more worthwhile for the fans, but in terms of the result we got I think this album is necessary and not a complete waste of time.

The artwork is definitely lazy though. The colour scheme is bland and the execution of the image itself isn't very striking. If they wanted to play with the theme of time and use the concept they did, would it really have taken much effort to do a new photoshoot?

I hope one day we'll get a B-Sides & Rarities type of album or at least make them available to stream.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 2nd May 2019, 01:40 PM

I do like the cover concept. I have a lot of admiration for whoever noticed she had 12 letters in her name, and used it so beautifully. But while that pose lends itself well to the composition, I would've preferred a new photo.

That said, I'm so happy Kylie has this coming out in time for Glastonbury. Really hope it helps bring her music to a new generation. It'll be a life-changing discovery for some young'uns, I'm sure.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 2nd May 2019, 02:47 PM

The 2 CD release should have been for the casuals (stocking it in supermarkets, HMV, Amazon etc) but there also should have been a 3 CD web store exclusive for the fans, that included all the main singles and some bonuses. Now that I would have thrown some money at.

A 3 CD release would have been far more worthwhile than 5 cassettes. I know that the cassettes are made for additional sales, but... you can push a gimmick too far and I feel that they have done here. One or two cassettes would be cute, but five is a lazy cash grab because they know some fans won’t be able to resist having all variants. I obviously understand that no one is forced to buy them all, but it’s not about that. I just think the concept of it is driven by greed, and not by quality.

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd May 2019, 03:32 PM

I agree, the cassette thing was cute for a while but the novelty has definitely worn off now. I think a 3 disc version would have been more worthwhile too but I guess they've learned they can spend little money making cassettes and get quite a bit back from them.

Totally agree on the cassettes - they pushed it too far with ‘Golden’ as the Xmas version proved and now they have gone totally overboard with the GH, if it was offering something different (eg: different sleeves etc.,) then I’d get it but different coloured cassettes don’t really add much!

Delighted breathe made the cut. I would have loved one more new song but I will be buying it but not multi buy.

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd May 2019, 10:30 PM

Just had a look at the Amazon chart and it's doing really well there so far. Overtaken Bruce Springsteen as the #1 pre-order (#3 overall) and also places at #5, #6 and #18.

Assuming the schedule remains quiet for 28th June releases, I actually think Kylie could be on track for her 7th number one! She's got a handful of gigs in the week running up to its release and she has Glastonbury two days after release. Would be such a treat if she managed it!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 2nd May 2019, 10:50 PM

I'm confident she can bag a #1 with this, obviously it depends on competition at the time though.

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd May 2019, 11:00 PM

Lionel Richie and ELO returned to #1 off the back of their Glastonbury performances and Dolly Parton reached #2 (stuck behind Ed Sheeran's dominance) so I see no reason why Kylie can't be in with a solid chance, especially with a brand new collection.

Posted by: slowdown73 2nd May 2019, 11:10 PM

I won’t be buying the album but will download NYC separately. As a die hard fan, it’s a disappointing package as it offers nothing new really apart from NYC. I’m disappointed they left off into the blue and if you were with me now off. Why keep including celebration? They could have done a special 3 disc set with bonus disc being mixes and unreleased material. Missed opportunity!

Posted by: Spiceboy 2nd May 2019, 11:32 PM

Did it again should be on over Breathe, otherwise this is a pretty great track listing for the general public.

Posted by: slowdown73 2nd May 2019, 11:35 PM

I prefer breathe to did it again.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 3rd May 2019, 01:15 AM

I'll miss 'Did It Again' too.

Didn't even notice they changed the colour of her outfit from the calendar photo. Looks seamless.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 05:25 AM

Celebration as much as it's not my cup of tea is a well known song for general public to relate too. She will probably add it in a megamix at Glastonbury!

Kiss me once album was probably a bad time in the end for her and the era wasn't success and personal life with Josh she had a breakdown so why would you put all that into a celebration of your work and career? You wouldn't!

This album is for general public on the back of her summer shows and for fans who like collecting her stuff. I will buy the CD when it hits the shops!

Let's see who else releases for Glastonbury.....

I would have thought a week earlier release would have been nice so she would have been in charts for her performance and then stabilise for a second week but hey. It will probably be high entry then disappear but good to have a new collection all together.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd May 2019, 08:10 AM

I much prefer 'Did It Again' to 'Breathe', but acknowledge 'Breathe' is probably the more popular song and she seems to like it.

Didn't notice 'Celebration' was actually on this too. Bin it.

It doesn’t say anywhere that I can see - all the formats such as cassette, green vinyl and picture disc are just listed as ‘limited’, I think after the success of ‘Golden’ and the subsequent cassettes that they won’t be restricting numbers as much as before.

I think there is potential for her to do so - she seems quite invested in this release and a proper GH tour would round off 30 years in the business perfectly.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th May 2019, 02:33 AM

Ya i sense she is really behind it and thought she might tour it as a greatest hits tour would be a big seller for her. If she does tour it, a re release with a third disc could be possible. Id love her to tour this thought as id love the hits tour.

Posted by: ___∆___ 5th May 2019, 08:38 AM

^^ Also I feel like this is one of the few/only collections she would have been properly involved in?

1992 Greatest Hits - Released to tie up her deal with PWL and input would have been minimal as it was a straightforward hits collection with a few new songs

Hits + - Released by Deconstruction to try and claw back their investment after her success with Parlophone

Greatest Hits 87-92 - Cash in from PWL following on from the success of ‘Fever’

Ultimate Kylie - I’m sure this one Kylie was involved in and was probably the most relevant one and was released at the perfect time, really odd that this is unavailable to buy physically or download - can only assume its due to liscencing issues as it would have been a consistent trickle seller

The Best Of Kylie Minogue - Hashed together to celebrate 25 years in music, she doesn’t even feature on the cover. The Australian singles box set was a much better way to celebrate 25 years.

Abbey Road Sessions - Listed as a GH but I don’t really count it as one, the songs are totally re-worked and it’s not an album people would seek out when looking for a GH collection

There are other variations of course (I feel Deconstruction release one every 2 years laugh.gif ) but the above are the ones that charted.

‘Step Back In Time’ feels on a level with ‘Ultimate Kylie’ - really interested to see how the album does long term when essentially the GH concept is almost defunct.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th May 2019, 01:31 PM

This release and ultimate kylies are prob the only 2 kylie really supports, like you said the others were cash ins from record companies. I never class abbey roads a greatest hits but the best of a few years back was such a lazy release that kylie in no way supported.Hopefully this release will be available long term as it will sell in low numbers for years to come.

Current Pre-Order Charts -

Vinyl (Amazon Mint Green Exclusive) #7

I will definitely be adding this to my ever growing Kylie collection, although I do admit that I don't own all of her compilations only mainly the official ones that offers something new such as =

Greatest Hits (1992)
Hits+
Ultimate Kylie
The Abbey Road Sessions

Didn't bother with that awful 'Best of Kylie' from 2012 which was just a lazy cash cow release to tie in with her 25 year anniversary, and was NOT chosen by the fans, as it left off so many fan faves and yet included Kids, Celebration & Tears on My Pillow (which aren't really fan faves at all). But this collection is really decent and represents her career decently. Not really bothered about the 'KMO' era being left off, which wasn't really successful anyway and definitely ranks as her worst studio album to date (apart from the X-Mas album of course).

dance.gif VERY happy at having 'Your Disco Needs You', 'Timebomb' & 'The One' on here, and of course the first 2 'Golden' singles as they were the best from that album. Although I'm being nit-picky I'd have left off 'Celebration' on Disc 2 and have 'Finer Feelings' in place of it and did we really need 'Give Me Just A Little More Time' again as the only 'LGTI' single, and again would have preferred 'FF' or why not have them both. Plus wouldn't have minded '2 Hearts' being left off and have 'Crystalize', 'Flower' or even one of the other 'Golden' singles.

So yeah I will be buying this album, and does anybody know that if there will be a DVD that includes all the music videos released as well as that would be awesome.

Posted by: pippa 6th May 2019, 03:27 PM

I was surprised Celebration made the final cut of the release as many other greater tracks would have fitted better such as Crystallize, Flower, Music's Too Sad Without You or If You Were With Me Now.

So pleased at all of those tracks finding a home on the GH - YDNY is a song that Kylie knows fans love and she enjoys performing it, that along with ‘The One’ i feel are the songs she’s knows that got away. Same for ‘Timebomb’ too - if it wasn’t for the erratic release it would have gone Top 20 at least.

If Kylie released on a week like this week she would easily take the Number 1 position and possibly outsell the Top 5 combined.
Sales are extremely low this week.

Def so as Pink will hold number 1 this week on about 12k of sales.

To be honest, they release the album a bit too late, they should release it at the beginning of June instead of just putting all the hopes into Glastonbury.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 16th May 2019, 11:01 AM

Ya as the multi formats would sell it then the hype leading up to Glastonbury would boost it as would the show itself and it would build more sales I think.

And they just couldn't bother promoting NYC, so what's the point of a relatively late release? wink.gif

Posted by: Medellíam 16th May 2019, 01:47 PM

I think the release date is just fine. There will be a week of shows the week before release, Glastonbury on release week and then a week of shows the week after.

I'm sure it'll will sell consistently over summer but they've also put measures in place to give it the maximum first week sales it can. I'm looking forward to seeing the effects!

This is what I think too - great planning from BMG to potentially open with a great first week combining fan base sales, multiple copies for the ebayers to buy trying to sell on and the Glastonbury/General Public sales - they could have a huge first week with strong subsequent weeks.

Posted by: pippa 16th May 2019, 06:42 PM

The stage is set as good as they almost can to open with strong sales.
BMG put alot of effort into Golden on subsequent weeks and i think they will here to.

It will be exciting times again, can't wait, btw Spice Girls moved their release date of their picture vinyl greatest hits disc to 28th of June... They wouldn't be a threat I guess but just for info.

Posted by: pippa 16th May 2019, 08:03 PM

I welcome the Spice Girls and Kylie on the chart at anytime and would be happy for both to be Number 1's at anytime but not to lose out to each other.
That is not the scenario for the upcoming releases as Spice Girls is a limited release.

The SG release is a bit of a mess - originally limited to 2,500 copies which sold out, they have now pushed the release back 4 weeks (So it’ll now be released 3 weeks after the tour ends!) so they can press more. Depending how many copies get sold to UK fans they could re-enter the Top 20 so no threat to Kylie but amazing to see them both chart in the same week - real pop is back!

Good to see spice girls greatest pick up so many extra sales since the tour was announced. And of course im always happy to see kylie on the chart and extend her success.

Really hope BMG follow the Spice Girls lead and press more picture discs - they are already being listed for stupid prices on eBay (£200!) so they could clearly shift more as always.

I hope so - it’s listed as ‘Excluisve’ on Kylie’s store rather than a limited edition so they could get away with making more, i’m sure there is enough demand there for at least another 1,000 copies.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 19th May 2019, 11:45 AM

They would be crazy to ignore the demand for it and I really do think they will press more.

Black Keys are Kylie’s main competitor for new albums in release week.

Current Amazon charts for both - the multiple formats should swing it in Kylie’s favour hopefully!

It was at HMV Oxford Street and I was lucky enough to attend - you had to pre-order the album to be in with a chance of being selected and it was a midnight signing to kick off release week. Not something Kylie usually does though (She’s done more book signings than album ones) so with all that is happening with the tour, Pride, Glastonbury I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t do a signing - I hope she adds signed copies to the website though like she did with the Golden cassette.

Posted by: adancing 22nd May 2019, 09:00 PM

She also did a signing for Kiss me Once in release week but in Paris and I was lucky enough to be in PAris that week and meet her face to face and speak with her a few words and of course get her signature...
I don't think she will do any signing this time though with HMV oxford branch closed.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd May 2019, 12:06 AM

I'd love to meet her face to face even for a few seconds.

Posted by: Medellíam 23rd May 2019, 12:27 AM

Never met Kylie as such but seeing her perform literally two metres in front of me on the Golden Tour was enough to make me feel like I had died and gone to heaven! laugh.gif I'm not someone who usually gets starstruck but Kylie has been a part of my life since I was like four and, for all that time until then, she existed on a television or computer screen or on an album or the radio. You of course know they're a real person but it's so surreal seeing your idols in the flesh. I'd love to sit and have a chat with her, she's such a sweetheart who just exudes happiness!

Posted by: pippa 23rd May 2019, 02:44 PM

She is a celebrity i would be very happy to meet but they do say you should never meet your idols.
That said, i naively believe Kylie would be very nice to meet and would be sincerely shocked if she was not a nice p[person to meet and that everything is just a show.

She was sweet to me, I told her i flew all the way to Paris from Beirut just to see her and she was like woooo raised her hands and said omgggg to me alll smiles... Its just moments you don't forget.
The next day she had a french tv show live performance, she sang 3 songs live from new album, once again i was lucky enough to make my way in and be part of the audience, we were like 10 people standing in the studio and she was just in front of us, as she started singing Into the blue i was miming and screaming to her she noticed me and just sang part of the 2nd verse while looking at me directly to my eyes...
She was sweet made me feel special, I love her a lot.

Somebody at BMG is clearly a fan of Kylie’s premium IP work smoke.gif

Posted by: Medellíam 28th June 2019, 08:53 AM

Looking on Popjustice, apparently the Parlophone tracks come from the original sources and not the greatest hits themselves because of BMG not owning them. That'll explain why tracks are album only on iTunes too.

Q4Music explains the 'Put Yourself in My Place' issue:

QUOTE
I can now see what's happened. Somewhere along the line (in 2006, just after Warner Australia acquired Kylie's Festival Mushroom catalogue for Aus & NZ) the ISRC for the radio mix of PYIMP has been incorrectly assigned to to the live version on Intimate & Live as well. So if this has bled into the international releases by BMG as well, it will still have been Warner Australia's fault.

People are confirming it's the correct version on physical copies. Her team have also been correcting the error on digital platforms (although it's yet to be corrected on Spotify).

I listened to CD1 in a Spotify playlist someone made a few weeks back and I think the run works really well (this one had the tracking list with 'Breathe' on the second disc and 'New York City' on the first). Having 'Dancing' so early on amongst all those big hits actually fits perfectly; it's really established itself as a Kylie classic. Still yet to listen to CD2 - at first look, it seems strange having 'What Do I Have to Do' near the end, so far away from the other Rhythm of Love tracks.

Posted by: gooddelta 1st July 2019, 10:49 AM

Great, she hopefully looks safe, although I can see Lewis getting some good sales for the rest of the week.

This is such a great collection, so well sequenced. Ultimate Kylie was already one of my all-time favourite hits albums and this is even better, with the inclusion of her most significant singles of the last 15 years plus Your Disco Needs You, which is THE great lost Kylie single in my eyes, and should have been a double-a side with Please Stay.

A few of my personal faves are missing (Chocolate, Some Kind of Bliss), but I can understand why. It doesn't feel any less comprehensive a collection without those, Giving You Up etc. I guess a special edition three-disc version with the missing singles and some other big album tracks/b-sides/rarities (Can't Get Blue Monday, Made of Glass, White Diamond etc) might have been nice but was probably asking too much at this point.

I do hope it's another No.1 album for her.

I'm glad that Kylie will be recognised as the sole female act in second place for most number one albums by the OCC, but A Star is Born should really be credited to Barbra Streisand. Fingers crossed a studio album could be coming in the next year or so, capitalising on the momentum of Golden and these summer shows and give her an 8th number one.

Chocolate didn't deserve to be snubbed, it's one of her finest moments. Also Giving You Up is really good and deserves to be on track list.

‘Giving You Up’ is one of my favourite Kylie songs and was a Top 10 hit in the UK so I’m disappointed it wasn’t included (Especially now it doesn’t have a ‘home’ as Ultimate Kylie is not available to download or stream anymore so people have to search for the single if they want to listen to it so I’m sure it’ll become a forgotten classic cry.gif ).

It can also be found on Spotify on the Boombox Compilation. Essentially a Parlophone Best Of 2000-2008.

The #1 is sewn up, but how do we think this will hold up after this week? Golden managed a respectable 4 weeks top 10, but Dolly's Glasto slot for example had her top 10 for a good 10ish weeks. I'd like to see this manage another week top 3 or at least top 5. And around 5+ weeks top 10.

Has it been noted that it's #1 on Amazon now?

Current standings taken from the OCC -

ARTIST
MADONNA 12
BARBRA STREISAND 6
KYLIE MINOGUE 6
CELINE DION 5
DIANA ROSS 4
RIHANNA 4
KATE BUSH 3
EVA CASSIDY 3
NORAH JONES 3
AVRIL LAVIGNE 3
SUSAN BOYLE 3
AMY WINEHOUSE 3

They have included Evita for Madonna so should include A Star is born for Barbara. Also Gaga is not on that list she has 4 too.

I really think it’s going to hang around for a while - it’s not like a studio album that needs constant promo and singles to keep it selling.

Also she has the rest of her summer tour and Pride show to keep interest going and BMG have said the GH campaign will last until Q4, I’m sure after the great start they will be pulling out all the stops.

Golden sold 1870 sale equivalent streams. I feel like Step Back in Time should have more streams given its full of already established hits.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 2nd July 2019, 05:03 PM

I'm quite surprised the streaming is that low too. I wonder if there's much streaming data missing from the mids so far?

Nice to see the vinyl sales are high! Decent showing for the cassettes too. Did we ever find out how many cassettes Golden sold in its first week?

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd July 2019, 05:09 PM

Found this in the sales topic from the time:

1 NEW 'GOLDEN' Kylie
Total Sales: 48,032 (Beat Showman who sold 35,372)
CD: 28,152
Digital: 9,010
Streaming: 1,870
Vinyl: 6,398

Think the remainder is cassette sales.

I’m actually please cassette sales are down considerably - as there are 5 versions and still readily available sales ‘should’ be higher, hopefully this will put an end to BMGs obsession with the format! 1 is a novelty, 5 is a blatant p!sstake.

Albumism identifies 5 tracks they'd liked to have seen on the collection:

QUOTE
“Finer Feelings”
Let’s Get To It (1991)

Historically, “Finer Feelings” is a necessity on any Kylie Minogue retrospective as it marks her first collaboration with Dave Seaman and Steve Anderson—Brothers in Rhythm—who oversaw the production of the single edit for “Finer Feelings.” Pulling the latent pop-soul element forward that sat at the surface of the Stock-Aitken-Watermen LP version, the single took on a whole new form. More importantly, Seaman and Anderson went on to be major players in Minogue’s seminal deConstruction Records period that she used to assist in her departure from Stock-Aitken-Waterman’s ubiquitous bubblegum style. Anderson continues to work with Minogue today as the music director for her concert tours; he has also kept writing and producing on other projects with her. That being said, their friendship and longtime creative courtship began here.

“Where Is The Feeling?”
Kylie Minogue (1994)

On Kylie Minogue, “Where Is The Feeling?”—a cover of minor club charter for Within a Dream—was reimagined as an acid jazz stomper worthy of The Brand New Heavies. However, when it was sent forward as her fifth album’s third and final single, it was recast as a gorgeously thalassic, alternative pop piece that, on its maxi-single pressing, audaciously sprawled into a thirteen-minute Donna Summer-esque epic. Sadly forgotten despite its engrossing esoteric air, “Where Is The Feeling?” has only appeared on one compilation, the non-Minogue officiated Hits+ (2000) that rounded up all but one of her deConstruction singles. More than any other song on this list, “Where Is The Feeling?” deserves to have its story told on the next singles package Minogue drafts going forward.

“Some Kind Of Bliss”
Impossible Princess (1998)

A collision of Britpop muscle and symphonic pop grace featured on her sixth studio LP Impossible Princess, “Some Kind Of Bliss” has never quite gotten its rightful due as one of Minogue’s braver single options, though its stock among discerning Minogue aficionados continues to grow. A polarizing choice to lead from what was to be an equally polarizing parent record, “Some Kind Of Bliss” saw Minogue team with the Manic Street Preachers for a bright, bursting rock-pop paean to the challenges and triumphs of life. It doesn’t hurt that Minogue gives a duly passionate vocal take, “Some Kind Of Bliss” needs to be dusted off and celebrated for the kinetic piece of high art that it is.

“Flower”
The Abbey Road Sessions (2012)

Written with her most sympathetic creative partner (Steve Anderson) during the X (2007) sessions, “Flower” was left off that album and curiously reprised on the partnering tour for X (KylieX2008). It wouldn’t find its way onto a studio project until The Abbey Road Sessions five years later. A stripped-down acoustic piece with demure orchestral touches, “Flower” candidly details Mingoue’s post-cancer concerns about mortality and her future, the latter aspect resting on the topic of childbirth. Given the personal effects of the track, that she led The Abbey Road Sessions with this as the introductory single was a striking move. Of course, the commercial returns were limited, but it garnered close to uniform critical praise. Like Impossible Princess and specific sides of X that had Minogue drop her guard and expose her vulnerability, “Flower” makes for a gripping and ultimately moving listening experience.

“Into The Blue”
Kiss Me Once (2014)

Kiss Me Once is the only album to have no representation on Step Back In Time, indicative of the brief flux in Minogue’s creative quality and confidence. With that said, “Into The Blue” is something of a diamond in the rough. As anthemic as “All The Lovers” or “Better The Devil You Know,” this adult contemporary chestnut was the sole single that managed any chart headway at all from Kiss Me Once (UK #12). In what should have been another “out of the park” smash, Minogue instead found herself contending with ageist radio outlets as early as 2007 which impeded “Into The Blue” from going any farther than it did.

To be honest, I do find it pretty strange that Into the Blue is always getting snubbed from things. I get that she’s not massive on the KMO era at all, but I’d expect ITB (forget the rest of the era) to be given at least some acknowledgement?

Posted by: Jay ☆ 3rd July 2019, 01:29 AM

It's a shame Into the Blue wasn't included sad.gif I think it's the biggest glaring omission. It would have been nice for every studio album (non-Christmas) to have been represented by at least one single.

Thanks Liam! So 2,602 Golden cassettes in the first week. That rose to 2,847 copies by https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-official-top-20-best-selling-cassettes-of-2018-so-far__23407/.

I'm pretty impressed that Step Back in Time cassette sales amount to 2k actually. I know a fair few fans will have bought all 5 for the sake of their collections, but I feel like the current price of one cassette (£15, but £20 with postage) is a bit too much to attract casual sales for it. The original Golden cassette was only £5 (or £7.50 with postage), and as aeroco pointed out there were some signed copies put on sale too. Even if Step Back in Time cassette sales don't reach Golden's, they're certainly generating more money!

Look at this totally unexpected surprise:

https://themusicnetwork.com/kylie-mi...-albums-chart/

Kylie poised to land her sixth #1 ARIA album

Kylie Minogue is gunning for another #1 debut on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Her career retrospective Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection is well placed to become her sixth #1 on the chart.

She’s tipped to knock off the likes of Billie Eilish (12 weeks on the chart), as well as other heavyweights Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and P!NK.

The Aussie has topped the chart with Fever (2001), Kiss Me Once (2014), Light Years (2000), X (2007) and last year’s Golden, as well as 12 additional Top 10 albums since 1989’s Kylie peaked at #2.

Kylie fever is ramping up worldwide, blowing away a massive Glastonbury crowd.

It was an emotional performance, with the singer originally billed to headline the festival in 2005 but was forced to pull out after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

BBC reports that her set had the biggest crowd of the weekend, and her Sunday evening set also had the highest TV audience.

According to midweek data, The Black Keys’ new LP Ley’s Rock and Chris Brown’s Indigo are also tilting at Top 5 album debuts.

It would be good and it's quite unexpected.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd July 2019, 06:35 AM

I would reduce the cassette to £10 or add an offer 2 for £20 and sign a few also to add longevity

Those streaming sales are concerning sadly. It's Spotify she is struggling with as Apple she is streaming 29th which isn't bad.

Capaldi us back number 1 on Itunes and amazon and his streaming will be huge.

She is 12,000 ahead with 3 day of sales left, it should be enough but Capaldi streaming may make it close.

I am interested to see how they are going to continue this campaign until Xmas. ...

As much as she is in the news etc who is going to buy this week after week without anything new? I am hoping she sells around 5k in week 2 and keeps top 20. If she is only selling 427 on opening week of streaming in opening week then this will hurt her in the charts lower down.

Let's see. I hope she releases different versions maybe of some of the songs and swaps then in digital format / streaming format like Mousse T remixes.

Adding a Golden/Glastonbury dvd to a Greatest Hits for Xmas will probably be the way forwaRd.

Or announcing an Arena tour of 8 dates and selling the album with tickets could also work well

Posted by: ___∆___ 3rd July 2019, 07:44 AM

Yes with the amount of cassettes available this time I feel they missed an opportunity not to offer the full collection for a special bundle price (I got them all as part of the main bundle but they could have offered a separate one), with a £15 price tag they are only ever going to appeal short term to a niche part of Kylie’s fan base so now they need to encourage further sales.

Bjork has released all of her albums on cassette and is offering them all at a reduced price for buying everything.

Posted by: adancing 3rd July 2019, 07:45 AM

Absolutely - what a money spinner Kylie is for BMG.

BMG are one of them most successful new music companies and it’s easy to see why - in an industry dominated by streams they have signed acts that can sell high priced physicals and obsolete formats.

Thanks for that, Joe. I did suspect this could be the case when I saw The Abbey Road Sessions had sneaked into the Top 200 mids today, although I thought maybe this was just an error and streaming was continuing to be added to that album as I assume it would have been prior to the release of Step Back in Time (due to TARS, presumably, being the most physically bought of Kylie's greatest hits collections).

I'm not sure if it's a mistake that they're there or its the only way for the streams to be credited, but either way, I'm glad A Step Back in Time's streams aren't as weak as the look at a glance. over 1k stream sales is pretty decent for her.

Lewis is definitely too far behind to catch up now! I estimate he'll end up with 10,800 streaming & 12,700 pure sales by Friday (a total of 23,500), whereas Kylie is on course for 32k or 33k!

Kind of, I love Kylie anyway I just haven’t really liked her singles since Aphrodite, wasn’t really a fan of Into the blue (not sure why) and although I like dancing I really struggle to hear what she sings in the chorus (I’m deaf) so just skipped those two album releases. I’ve got every other studio album she has released as Ultimate Kylie so really should buy the other two.

‘Kiss Me Once’ seems to be u universally hated but I love it and still listen to it a lot now (I struggled with ITTB in the beginning but really like it now - such a shame it got missed off the GH), ‘Golden’ for me is such a strong album from start to finish - out of the two if definitely pick that one up.

This - even the 2012 flop ‘The Best of’ only went 11-23 in its 2nd week.

This has exposure in all the supermarkets and HMV, multiple versions still available on her website - not all fans buy/can afford multiple copies in week 1 either so pick up copies later, I’m expecting this to be Top 5 at least week 2 and hopefully a few weeks Top 10 overall.

Posted by: ___∆___ 4th July 2019, 10:15 AM

The biggest fall Kylie has had with any of her #1 albums is 1-4 with Golden all the others either dropped to 2 or 3 so this shouldn’t be any different. She’s not the kind of act to drop 1-23.

E-mail from the Kylie mailing list really pushing the cassettes (Saying they are now very limited?) and featuring a picture of each one - she should have done a last minute special priced bundle or signed a few.

She doesn’t need to, they’re close to selling out at £15 each!!! So perhaps 5000 total produced inc international sales , I also wonder if there are 1000 of each or they produced different volumes depending on the preorders?

There’s 100+ left of each cassette (That’s the highest amount it allows you to add to your basket). Although there probably are not that many left as it’s sold 2,000 in the UK and a high number would have gone to international fans - so they could be down to 1,500 copies total if they did produce 1,000 of each - would love to know the most popular colour so far! I’ve seen a lot of people posting the pink one.

I went for Gold....I guess we’ll know which is most popular as it’ll be marked as ‘sold out’ first.

Looks like the Gold coloured cassette has been the most popular, it’s now showing that there’s 93 left! Whereas the other four are still over 99.

If I was to buy any colour it would be the Gold one! I just don’t think I can justify spending £20. sad.gif

Same for me for every single format - I don’t own a CD, Vinyl or Tape player and haven’t for years, all copies just for collection purposes and to support Kylie!

Looking forward to seeing how Kylie does in Ireland as none of her GH seem to have been particularly big? (1992 GH didn’t chart?, 2004 Ultimate Kylie #8, 2012 Best Of #22) - I can’t find anything for the 92’ version but this could potentially be her highest charting hits collection.

Will have to give it a go, I think not being able to hear Kylie in the chorus of Dancing is the main reason I didn't get it. I must admit I didn't like the single with Jack Savoretti either. Will pick them up at some point and give them a listen though. wub.gif

Thanks - I guessed it had done pretty well even though I couldn’t find a chart position for it, would have been unheard of for it not to chart at the time!.

Kylie was huge here in Ireland in the pwl.days and had more number 1s here than in the uk.

Posted by: Vülker 5th July 2019, 02:28 PM

So my bestie was watching Kylie's Glastonbury set with her boyfriend and she commented how she liked the colour pallet of her dancer's outfits. Her boyfriend bought her the mint vinyl while she was in the shower as it had the same aesthetic. So sweet and a welcome extra sale but I wonder how many more people watching had similar reactions.
Definitely brilliantly marketed.

QUOTE
Congratulations to Kylie Minogue, who lands straight in at Number 1 on this week's Official Albums Chart with her greatest hits collection Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection.

It means Kylie collects her seventh chart-topping album in the UK, following last year's Golden hitting the top spot in April. Last week she performed a selection of her biggest hits at Glastonbury in the coveted Sunday 'legends' slot. Watch Kylie get surprised by the news backstage:

Kylie joins the likes of Coldplay, Elton John, Barbra Streisand and Take That on seven Number 1 records, while the only female artist to have more is Madonna on 12.

Step Back in Time features all seven of her UK chart-topping singles and a further 23 Top 10 hits. The record also takes the top spot on this week's Official Vinyl Albums Chart and was the week's best-selling album on cassette

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 5th July 2019, 04:03 PM

And the sale is...?

Posted by: Medellíam 5th July 2019, 04:21 PM

The OCC have updated the list of female soloist with most number ones. They now recognise A Star is Born as a #1 for Barbra and Lady Gaga, so Kylie is still tied for second place.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th July 2019, 04:50 PM

So happy she has another number 1 album and 2 back to back number 1 albums.

Music Week:

QUOTE
The obvious Glastonbury winner is Kylie Minogue, whose big TV ratings for her Sunday ‘legends’ slot ensured that her Step Back In Time collection (BMG/Rhino) opened at No.1 (31,980 sales). However, the sale was skewed towards physical (25,992 units, including 5,682 vinyl copies). The album had already registered strong sales ahead of her performance at Worthy Farm.
QUOTE

Five days after her emotional and triumphant performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage, Kylie Minogue’s new compilation Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection storms to a No.1 debut on the album chart.

A worthy winner after her performance at Worthy Farm, Minogue may not have excited as much social media attention as Stormzy and The Killers but BARB overnight audience ratings suggested that 3m tuned in to watch her – more than twice the figure for any other act – clearing the way for Step Back In Time to secure the 51-year-old Australian a No.1 album on consumption of 31,980 units (including 1,225 from sales-equivalent streams). Arriving a few days before the 31st anniversary of the release of her debut album, (Kylie), Step Back In Time contains 42 selections – 40 hit singles plus popular 2000 album cut Your Disco Needs You and new single New York City – and delivers Minogue’s seventh No.1 album. The only woman to have more: Madonna (12), although Barbra Streisand also has seven if we count the Streisand/Kristofferson soundtrack A Star Is Born.

Step Back In Time also debuts at No.1 on the vinyl and cassette album charts, with sales of 5,682 copies in the former format, and 2,047 in the latter format.

Tuesday midweeks vs Friday chart:

I think so too, a shame that there's seemingly a problem there. Unfortunately Abbey Road didn't re-enter the Top 200 anyway drama.gif Would have been interesting to have an update for it, if we're to assume that streams of Kylie's hits have been attached to that for a while now!

Posted by: Medellíam 5th July 2019, 06:34 PM

The OCC did give an update in March and they had it on 235k, up 40k on the total from the end of its chart run. I'm guessing most of them will have been from streams.

Posted by: SKOB 5th July 2019, 06:36 PM

Kylie isn't really a streaming artist though? I mean on her GH there are several tracks that have less than 10M listens on Spotify despite being among her biggest hits (Slow, Loco-Motion, Better the Devil etc). And new music is always more streamed for the first couple of weeks out of the gate.

Indeed she isn't a streaming artist, but nevertheless in the Wednesday midweeks 'Abbey Road Sessions' had approximately 75% of the streams that Step Back in Time had, which stands out as being rather unlikely. Abbey Road Sessions is seemingly getting streaming data from some of the hit versions of the songs that are included on that album, which really should have been contributing to Step Back in Time instead.

Posted by: SKOB 5th July 2019, 07:16 PM

But if you look at the streaming numbers on Spotify next to songs, they are not very high on either of the album and none of the songs were top 200 on Spotify's daily rankings. So the number (1,225) seems very reasonable to me. Bruce Springsteen's latest got 2K from streaming and that was all new album.

Would be shocked if it’s any lower than Top 5 - Kylie has never fallen from #1 to lower than #4 with any of her previous albums.

I think it’s a certainty that she’ll remain Top 10, and more than likely Top 5. I don’t think there’s any need to be concerned about its week 2 performance.

Back up on 2 on Amazon with Killers discounted album ahead. Other versions 17 and 20 on Amazon.

I am now more optimistic of it staying top 10 this week maybe even too 5. But let's see not going to get carried away. If it sells more than 5k this week I will be very happy

I'm cautiously optimistic for a 10,000+ second week... we'll see!

After the green vinyl price kept changing on Amazon from £24.99 to £18.18 and back again, it's now exactly £20.

Posted by: Medellíam 6th July 2019, 11:57 PM

With this being a greatest hits I have no clue as to what to expect. The fact it went to #1 is enough for me and I know that all streams are going to be allocated to this collection's total for the foreseeable, so whatever happens I know it will do well. It's been mentioned that they have a plan leading up to Christmas and there's suggestion that there could be a re-release with a third bonus disc which, if done correctly, could really see fans flock to buy it. Give us studio version of That's Why They Write Love Songs !!!

Maybe getting a bit carried away but I hope she gets some sort of award at the BRIT Awards next year, like the Lifetime Achievement thing where she gets to perform a medley. That could really increase the momentum towards a new studio album, hopefully next year!

Agree with this - it’s not going to be the kind of album that does a 1-9-27-56-out kind of performance. It’s still doing incredibly well on iTunes and Amazon and has high visibility (either placed at #1 or #2 in all the supermarkets this week and Sainsbury’s are stocking the vinyl).

I think the signed cassettes were a one off - it’s not something Kylie usually does and also they released them in the first week for Golden, if they were going to do it with SBIT pretty sure it would have happened.

I think they know they don’t need to do signed versions - with or without them Kylie would have been comfortably #1 with Golden and she got to #1 again with ease without them for SBIT.

I think it's completely obvious that P!nk's record label bought that award for her.

But being more successful and relevant at the current time shouldn't really have any bearing on a lifetime achievement award.

There are dozens of acts who DESERVE the lifetime achievement award so it's most likely for sale these days and whoever is willing to "buy" it, will get it.

Lifetime achievement isn’t an award for he current acts though that’s what there rest of the ceremony is for. It’s about celebrating those who have contributed in a huge way to the British charts. I can’t believe Pink was the first non-British person to win the award over the likes of Madonna, Kylie, Cher, Michael Jackson, Prince... acts who have contributed a lot more! Not to say Pink doesn’t deserve it though she has a 20 year history on the British charts and has some amazing, just surprising she would come before all the others

I don’t disagree with what the award SHOULD be for however Brits is a brand geared towards TV viewing figures, media coverage etc., and Pink would be a lot more desirable to them wether that’s the correct decision or not against someone like Alison Moyet and others mentioned. I think now Kylie has had another rise to the top they might be more inclined to award her.

Madonna is an obvious recipient now that it's international as she is basically the biggest pop star alive (I consider Macca's legacy separate to The Beatles). Whether she's willing to "buy" it or not, remains to be seen.

Posted by: pippa 8th July 2019, 01:24 PM

Pink was deserving of her award as were the other acts in previous years.
That said, Kylie like others is truly deserving of the award also.

I don't totally agree to be honest. I do agree that Pink would pull in viewing figures / media footage (as she did), however not necessarily more so than Kylie or Madonna as seen by the huge viewing figures Kylie got at Glastonbury (highest ever) and the huge deal that was made of Madonna performing at the Brits the previous year (and that's not including the coverage after she was pulled off the stage laugh.gif poor thing).

I'm really not disputing Pink winning btw, I think she is amazing, I'm just a little surprised she was there before many others.

I think Kylie will overtake the Lighthouse Family but as i posted in the chart forum.
It is just great to see the Lighthouse Family do so well after such a long time away.

#4 & #5 are quite far behind

1 Lewis Capaldi - Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (7.4k)
2 Lighthouse Family - Blue Sky In Your Head * (6.3k)
3 Kylie Minogue - Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection (5.4k)
4 The Killers - Direct Hits (3.4k)
5 Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (3.2k)

Kylie has the edge over The Killers & Billie Eilish due to her stronger physicals & downloads. Kylie also sold twice as much as Lighthouse Family on Sunday so she's looking safe to overtake them by Friday. She also sold more yesterday than Killers & Billie.

U2 won it in 2001 and they're not British, so Pink wasn't the first!

If they are English born then they are not Irish, they are English or have dual citizenship. They are considered an Irish band because they originated from Ireland, but 2 of their members are still English hence they are technically a Irish / UK band, certainly far more so than Pink who has no connection to the UK whatsoever.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 9th July 2019, 12:19 PM

It can come down to identity. (I know this is off topic for Kylie's thread) but U2 members aren't usually referred to as being British, because they define themselves as being Irish. Even if we go with the "they're considered an Irish band because they originated in Ireland" definition, that just strengthens the argument that U2 are considered as being an international act. Note that their previous Brit nominations/wins are always in the international categories. So it's really a fact that P!nk wasn't the first international act to receive the Outstanding Contribution award! Getting down to the technicalities of where they were born isn't really relevant.

Posted by: 365 9th July 2019, 12:23 PM

U2 identify as an Irish act. It's how Ireland, the rest of the world and most of their fans see them I'd say!

Streams are holding up nicely, dropping from 1,225 to 1,042. Would be great if the album could add on ~1k to its weekly totals for a while.

Week-by-week sales:

18/07/2019 02 10,998

Love reading this kinda stuff. Fever accounts for a 5th of her weeks in the top 10.

Impressive stuff! wub.gif

I’d really like to see Step Back in Time spend 5 or more weeks in the Top 10, to outdo the original Greatest Hits & to have her highest number of weeks in the Top 10 since Ultimate Kylie. Maybe that’ll be a tall order, but fingers crossed!

The drop in success she experienced from Enjoy Yourself to Rhythm of Love will always look quite sudden & startling, considering it was only a year’s gap! From a #1 spending 4 months Top 10, to a #9 spending just one week inside. That happened after the release of the Step Back in Time single. Almost 30 years later and Step Back in Time has some justice... now it’s not only the launch single for an album that indicated that Kylie was in commercial decline, it now has a #1 Greatest Hits named after it. heart.gif

Fever to Body Language looks like a huge comedown too (and it was really, even though 400,000 for Body Language was hardly a terrible result).

cheer.gif cheer.gif Amazing - was expecting it to be 5/6 today!

Posted by: 365 15th July 2019, 02:23 PM

Billie will probably overtake due to streams on Friday, but she's safe for top 5.

Posted by: pippa 15th July 2019, 02:45 PM

Top 4 looks very safe for Kylie which is brilliant for week 3.
Sales so far would indicate around 7-8k for the week.

Was in HMV tonight - the deluxe CD & green Vinyl we’re still right at the front of the store as you walk on positioned next to Ed. In the vinyl section it had a double space dedicated to it on the top row too cheer.gif

Fun fact: Step Back in Time spending a second week in the Top 10 marks Kylie's 100th week inside the Top 10! The breakdown is as follows:

Kylie: 29 weeks
Enjoy Yourself: 16 weeks
Rhythm of Love: 1 week
Greatest Hits: 4 weeks
Kylie Minogue: 1 week
Impossible Princess: 1 week
Light Years: 2 weeks
Fever: 20 weeks
Body Language: 1 week
Ultimate Kylie: 7 weeks
Showgirl: Homecoming Live: 2 weeks
X: 2 weeks
Aphrodite: 4 weeks
The Abbey Road Sessions: 2 weeks
Kiss Me Once: 2 weeks
Golden: 4 weeks
Step Back in Time: 2 weeks

This is incredible, for an artist that’s been written off so many times over the years to have hit 100 weeks is amazing.

Love that ‘Golden’ added a month to that total and SBIT is about to add a 3rd week cheer.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 16th July 2019, 01:33 AM

Hopefully SBIT can stay as long as golden in the top 10 or longer.

Posted by: 365 16th July 2019, 12:36 PM

#3 in mids still today. Billie increased by 100 copies, but Kylie is unlikely to fall lower than #4. This will definitely stay top 10 for 5+ weeks.

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2019, 01:13 PM

That is very good news.
Top 3 would be just great if Kylie can hold on and have an opening chart run of 1-2-3.

Posted by: aeroco 16th July 2019, 02:15 PM

Hope it holds on to top 3 this week....Ed Sheeran’s sales have really dropped back this time.

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2019, 02:47 PM

It has a good chance of staying Top 3 going by the information we have so far.
Big sales drop indeed for Ed Sheeran, but this release is more a mixtape than new album.

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2019, 04:15 PM

Today's update:

1 Ed Sheeran - No.6 Collaborations Project (77.2k) *
2 Lewis Capaldi - Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent (9.2k)
3 Kylie Minogue - Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection (4.2k)
4 Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? (3.7k)
5 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - A Star Is Born (3.4k)

Kylie is safe for Top 4.
A prime day deal may help Kylie hold her existing Number 3 position.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 16th July 2019, 04:42 PM

Seems like Kylie could do 7k+ this week! I hope so because it would mean the album would pass 50,000 sales in 3 weeks.

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2019, 06:10 PM

7K or 7.5k looks certain based on the sales achieved at this point of the week.
If they are higher it will be a bonus.
SBIT, is tracking to achieve Silver Certification in its 5th chart life week.

Posted by: ___∆___ 16th July 2019, 07:38 PM

Just seen that Sainsbury’s data is missing from Friday - seeing as they are stocking the CD and vinyl and have it displayed at the top of their charts it could have sold well with a few extra sales to be added cheer.gif

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2019, 08:34 PM

Hopefully that will work to Kylies advantage and not other challengers for the Number 3 position this week.

Posted by: adancing 16th July 2019, 08:51 PM

That's great for Kylie! Who would have thought she will have an amazing chart run with a GH album in 2019, its insane!!
On a side note, I really don't understand the interest in Ed...

Posted by: pippa 16th July 2019, 09:09 PM

Some people thought this wouldn't do aswell as the last Best of release by Kylie.
I always knew it would far out perform it.

I guess it’s such an easy risk free purchase for people that may not know all the songs on the album but can remember the majority?

The fact it’s being sold in all the supermarkets is definitely helping - with the summer sales slump on its way this could hang around for a while at the upper end of the charts on minimal sales and rebound with any kind of promo that may happen. Overall I can see this being a constant seller with a really healthy chart run cheer.gif

Thought I'd posted this before but hadn't but does anyone find the inner sleeve on the deluxe version disappointing, I thought it could have been so much more reflective of her 30 years of hits and should have done nostalgia included.

Totally - they could have done so much more with it! (Even adding worldwide chart peaks and a little section about each song would have been better than a few pictures of single covers!). A really lazy ‘deluxe’ versions - no bonus tracks, new or unseen pictures or anything added!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th July 2019, 12:34 PM

Mine has nothing except who wrote and produced the songs, it's very flat when you consider its representing a 30 year career.

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2019, 01:13 PM

Now that it is mentioned, it is a disappointing package from that perspective.
They could have had all the picture sleeves from the singles included that made the track listing.
This would also reflect Kylie's changing image through the 30 years.

99+ Clear, Green & White
80 Pink [8 sold]
63 Gold [13 sold]

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2019, 01:23 PM

They are selling very slowly.
A discount is likely on the way soon.

Posted by: ___∆___ 17th July 2019, 02:24 PM

Kylie’s just posted about cassettes on her instagram story - I’m sure the gold one will be sold out in the next week or so, when they slap up the ‘sold out’ sign on it then it will spur on collectors to buy the other colours that they haven’t got.

I’m not sure we’ll see a price reduction anytime soon as the silver edition cassette of ‘Golden’ is still full price 7 months after release.

The standard version is a fold out CD package - the only addition to the deluxe version is it’s on the shape of a book and features the single covers, nothing else laugh.gif

3 (2) STEP BACK IN TIME - THE DEFINITIVE: KYLIE MINOGUE
Sales: 4,900
Yesterday: 747
Sales WoW -42%

She'll drop to no4 tomorrow, Billie outsold her again and the sales difference is under 400 copies now.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 17th July 2019, 03:44 PM

Yeah, #4 looks certain. Still brilliant.

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2019, 03:46 PM

I would have loved for the album to have held on to the Number 3 position but Number 4 is good too and a third week Top 5.

Posted by: ___∆___ 17th July 2019, 05:30 PM

#4 is amazing yahoo.gif I feel like everything from now on is a bonus as the majority of people seemed to think this would struggle, a chart run of 1-2-4 is an epic start with hundreds of promo opportunities to come that will continually boost it over the coming weeks/months/years cheer.gif

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2019, 05:55 PM

Kylie has suprised everyone with the chart run of both this and Golden.
Both these releases will really boost her amount of weeks accumulated on the charts.

I would love this but I have a feeling BMG might do something similar like Dolly did with her GH and add a bonus disc of Glastonbury, As much as I want a bonus disc of rarities etc., they are ultimately trying to appeal to the masses in the Christmas market and I’m not sure the general public would be interested in a 1997 b side? laugh.gif

Posted by: pippa 17th July 2019, 06:48 PM

That is both a comprehensive and impressive release by Belinda Carlisle.
BMG could follow this and re-release SBIT with a 60 track package.
Disc 3 would likely have the left off singles as it would appeal more.
I would welcome rarities and b sides if it happens.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th July 2019, 11:48 PM

I'd prefer a more rare CD 3 if it's to happen as casual buyers will buy the regular editions and all the fans would enjoy a rarities cd more.

Posted by: Monzo 18th July 2019, 07:43 AM

SBIT is doing much better in the UK than I had expected. Now I wonder if it will become one of those GH albums that stays on the UK top 200 like forever... Or will it drop out in a few weeks and will only reenter if something big around Kylie happens?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th July 2019, 09:40 AM

I'm hoping it's the long term option as thats where the sales are.

I can see it hanging around long term with trickle sales - the fact that streaming sales will be allocated to it over her other hits packages that are available will help. I’m sure any type of promo will result in a boost and it’s also a title that HMV/Supermarkets/Amazon will keep in stock long term.

Posted by: Monzo 18th July 2019, 10:54 AM

US sales first two weeks: 4,400 (3,700 & 700) No units information.

Posted by: pippa 18th July 2019, 11:21 AM

Those sales are disappointing but not surprising for the US.
SBIT will gain many supermarket sales and will pick up sales as Kylie promotes or releases new material in addition to been a trickle seller by itself.

Posted by: pippa 18th July 2019, 06:03 PM

Australia: 1-11-
Ireland: 4-29-77-
Spain: 5-20-
Belgium Flanders: 9-27-57-
Switzerland: 11-87-
Germany: 15-67-
Austria: 21-x-
Hungary: 21-x-
The Netherlands: 23-x-
Belgium Wallonia: 25-115-132-

France: 45-

Posted by: GLOBALFUNQ 👣 19th July 2019, 02:10 PM

77 Ireland..

Posted by: pippa 19th July 2019, 02:24 PM

That is a sharp drop of 48 places there.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 19th July 2019, 02:36 PM

its not been promoted anywhere else and is not going anywhere, its a greatest hits collection and if and when she does promo in any country, tv, concerts etc then it will pick up sales.

Posted by: ___∆___ 19th July 2019, 03:10 PM

Zero promo, TV, Radio, Ads etc., anywhere outside of the U.K. has made it a fan only release in those territories so it’s done very well.

Posted by: pippa 19th July 2019, 03:41 PM

UK promo usually bounces over to Ireland too but essentially this release is UK focused (for now at the least).
