Last year, following a series of poor results, Israel decided to use talent show "The Next Star" to select their Eurovision entry and Nadav Guedj took Israel straight into the top 10 of the final. This year, the same process was used and Hovi Star secured Israel another appearance in the final with a top 15 finish. Therefore it only makes sense for the Israeli broadcaster to stick with this successful formula and today it was announced by an Israeli newspaper that "The Next Star" will return in January for ten episodes where the artist for Eurovision will be selected.
Read more here! I think this is a great move from Israel, if it ain't broken don't fix it. However I hope the artist gets selected a little earlier than Hovi was this year (beginning of March) as it meant a massive rush to get that superb revamp ready and from interviews Hovi gave, it sounded like everything was a bit last minute even with the original versions for the national final. That's the only criticism I have for Israel at the moment who have certainly "done a Latvia" and turned around their fortunes with a new selection process! |

It's not a national final so it doesn't count!
 I shall be watching anyway (well I already am), it was a thrilling show last year with the on-screen live voting system.

Imri Ziv wins and will represent Israel in Kyiv after being a backing dancer/singer the previous two years! I wanted him to win, good singer and good performer and will potentially give us another Golden Boy!

The voting system remains incredibly exciting, I know one of the UK's broadcasters commissioned a series of this (Rising Star) but ended up scrapping it. It's a shame, it's very exciting and I probably prefer the format to The Voice! |
