Banner by JosephStyles. Welcome! I was originally intending to do a thread based on the 2000s decade as a whole, but I soon realised that there were far too many songs I wanted to include, so I decided to split the decade into two. Also, it struck me how the two halves of the decade represent completely different times in my life and it somehow felt strange to mix all of my favourite songs from the 2000s together. The first half of the decade represents my secondary school days. which means I was aged 11 to 16 while these songs were hit singles (Joseph: "That was a very long time ago !"). I regularly catch myself thinking "how on earth is this song over 10 years old?!" - time certainly flies, but a lot of these songs have lived on in my affections. This list is mainly a who's who of pop females (as you can see from the above banner), with many hits and a fair few flops included in the mix. There is some variety though!! The songs in the upper echelons of this list will be unashamedly predictable though. I don't think I'm 100% happy with the order, but as happy as I can be for arranging 500 songs. There's lots more I could have included but I needed to draw the line somewhere and 500 is excessive enough! I'll count down the lower positions quite quickly, and then I'll focus more on the Top 100. Hopefully this list will include many of your past favourites, songs you've completely forgotten about (possibly intentionally in some cases ) or maybe introduce you to songs you've never heard of. Let's go! |

451-500
451 - N Sync - I'll Never Stop 452 - Mis-Teeq - Roll On 453 - Martine McCutcheon - On The Radio 454 - Girl Thing - Last One Standing 455 - Mis-Teeq - Why? 456 - Javine - Surrender (Your Love) 457 - Louise - Beautiful Inside 458 - Jessica Simpson - With You 459 - Dannii Minogue - Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling 460 - Benny Benassi Presents The Biz - Satisfaction 461 - Madonna - Hollywood 462 - P!nk - Family Portrait 463 - Holly Valance - State Of Mind 464 - Samantha Mumba - I'm Right Here 465 - Blue featuring L.A.D.E. - Bubblin' 466 - Beyonce - Work It Out 467 - Lisa Scott-Lee - Too Far Gone 468 - V - You Stood Up 469 - Delta Goodrem - Innocent Eyes 470 - O-Town - All Or Nothing 471 - Mariah Carey - Never Too Far 472 - Kate Winslet - What If 473 - Robbie Williams - Feel 474 - Geri Halliwell - Calling 475 - Lene Marlin - Sitting Down Here 476 - Blue - Breathe Easy 477 - Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever 478 - Nelly Furtado - Turn Off The Light 479 - Mariah Carey - Through The Rain 480 - Usher - Pop Ya Collar 481 - Liberty X - Jumpin' 482 - All Saints - All Hooked Up 483 - Natasha Bedingfield - Single 484 - P!nk - Trouble 485 - Speedway - Genie In A Bottle 486 - Eminem - Without Me 487 - Westlife - Fool Again 488 - Melanie C - Melt 489 - Craig David - Walking Away 490 - The Killers - All These Things That I've Done 491 - Mary Mary - Shackles (Praise You) 492 - The 411 - Teardrops 493 - Avril Lavigne - Nobody Knows 494 - Delta Goodrem - Out Of The Blue 495 - Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Mixed Up World 496 - Aqua - Cartoon Heroes 497 - Liberty X - Everybody Cries 498 - Blue - Guilty 499 - Busted - What I Go To School For 500 - Robbie Williams - Eternity Selected Songs 468 - V - You Stood Up I have to admit that I was quite fond of the boy band V, who came and went in the blink of an eye back in 2004. 2004 was definitely a year which confirmed that the traditional boy band was out, in favour of boys with guitars. Their first two singles haven't aged well for me and don't appear here, but I still have time for their third and final single 'You Stood Up', their death knell when it only reached #12 in November 2004. Aaron (the blonde member) now manages Lawson. 492 - The 411 - Teardrops Unfortunately it was a similar story for The 411, a girl group who showed so much promise when they launched back in 2004, but sadly fell victim to a flop debut album and the under-performance of their third and final single 'Teardrops'. It's not all bad news for them, because their first two singles feature much higher up my list! |

In fact it was 10 years ago this month since this single entered and peaked at #7 in the UK! At the time I considered that she could be the UK's answer to Delta Goodrem, but unfortunately Lucie's commercial success was short-lived - her debut album sold well, but she only achieved one more Top 10 hit from it (2005's #6 peaking 'Breathe In'). 427 - Phixx - Hold On Me Guilty pleasure alert! Phixx were a boy band made up of the male rejects from the ITV series Popstars: The Rivals. Their debut single 'Hold On Me' was a Top 10 hit in late 2003, and the group followed that up with 3 further Top 20 singles before disbanding in 2006. I used to quite like the music video for this single... |

Was gutted when I heard the album's chart position, there are so, so many amazing songs. |

It was originally going to be released as a stand-alone single a couple of months earlier, but the release was cancelled when Melanie injured her knee on reality TV show The Games. 'Melt' (a ballad) was added to the release so she was able to perform sitting down. The single became her first release to miss the Top 20, charting at a disastrous (for the time) #27. This resulted in Melanie being dropped by Virgin Records, but she'd return back to the charts in 2005 under her own label Red Girl! |

Ah, I like how you're formatting this, with the commentary on a couple tracks per section.
Don't Tell Me, There's Gotta Be More To Life, Work It, Hella Good, Not Gonna Get Us, I Need You, What It Feels Like For A Girl Lisa Maffia 'All Over' is a recent discovery of mine! |

Hmm, I suppose 'Chance' was the obvious choice, but I always though 'China Girl' would've made a great single too! Basically, I'd have released the album after 'Dumb'. Both of those would have been great choices! I remember a friend of mine liked 'My Friend' at the time. She calls me Jamie, and the lyrics in this song include: "My friend Jamie, he'd never had a fight, he was the sweetest kinda guy, he could always make me smile, then he caught the street life and he started selling drugs, then they found him in a puddle and it was no love" ... which amused her! Thank you! I thought it'd be a bit overkill to comment on any more than that, considering 500 songs is overkill in the first place! Great choices for your favourites! Lucie Silvas yassss *.* a whole section on her too, when will other faves x Such a shame she just totally fizzled out though, her second album deserved so much more than #62. Poor cow! |

301-350
301 - Celine Dion - A New Day Has Come True 302 - Madonna - Don't Tell Me 303 - Anastacia - Paid My Dues 304 - Nelly Furtado - Try 305 - Lemar - If There's Any Justice 306 - Michael Jackson - You Rock My World 307 - Beyoncé - Naughty Girl 308 - Maroon 5 - This Love 309 - Ronan Keating - Life Is A Rollercoaster 310 - Geri Halliwell - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster 311 - Emma Bunton - We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight 312 - Kylie Minogue - Chocolate 313 - Sarah Whatmore - Automatic 314 - Faith Hill - The Way You Love Me 315 - Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World 316 - Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent 317 - Mýa - Case Of The Ex 318 - Enrique Iglesias - Escape 319 - Dannii Minogue vs Flowerpower - You Won't Forget About Me 320 - Jaimeson - Complete 321 - Mariah Carey featuring Cam'ron - Boy (I Need You) 322 - 3LW - No More (Baby I'ma Do Right) 323 - S Club - Alive 324 - Celine Dion - I'm Alive 325 - Shania Twain - Forever And For Always 326 - Janet Jackson - All Nite (Don't Stop) 327 - Kylie Minogue - Please Stay 328 - Rachel Stevens - More More More 329 - Dannii Minogue - Put The Needle On It 330 - Kylie Minogue - Red Blooded Woman 331 - S Club - Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You 332 - S Club 7 - You 333 - Dream - He Loves U Not 334 - Beenie Man featuring Janet Jackson - Feel It Boy 335 - Mariah Carey featuring Joe & 98 Degrees - Thank God I Found You 336 - Artful Dodger featuring Melanie Blatt - Twenty Four Seven 337 - Mary J. Blige - Family Affair 338 - Javine - Best Of My Love 339 - Samantha Mumba - Baby Come On Over 340 - Ashlee Simpson - Pieces Of Me 341 - Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles 342 - Britney Spears - I Love Rock 'N' Roll 343 - Appleton - Fantasy 344 - Wheatus - A Little Respect 345 - P!nk - There You Go 346 - Mis-Teeq - B With Me 347 - Janet Jackson featuring Missy Elliott - Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You) 348 - Blue - U Make Me Wanna 349 - Junior Senior - Move Your Feet 350 - 3SL - Touch Me, Tease Me Selected Songs 311 - Emma Bunton - We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight I remember being shocked when this only charted at #20 in the UK! That was a pretty terrible result in 2001, particularly for a former Spice Girl. It seems people didn't like this one, with its total sales to date standing at around 35,000 copies. I evidently do like it though, as it places at #311 here. I specifically remember my Dad getting me this CD from Woolworths *interesting memory*! There's a few more Emma singles left to come in this list, but which of her singles will be her highest placed? 332 - S Club 7 - You They're back! S Club 7 will come together for the first time in over 11 years to perform a medley at this year's Children In Need telethon. 'You' was the group's 9th single, and it was business as usual when it became their 9th Top 3 hit in a row, reaching #2. However, I remember that they looked visibly annoyed about "only being #2" on CBBC's chart show; I think Konnie Huq told them the position. I suppose they had become more accustomed to #1s, given that their previous 3 singles had reached the top spot. This would end up being their last single as "S Club 7", with Paul leaving the group a few months later. They renamed themselves 'S Club', and as you can see, 'Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You' is one place higher than 'You' in this count down, while 'Alive' is at #323. |

Things got off to a rocky start when Victoria went head-to-head with Kylie in the singles chart - 'Not Such An Innocent Girl' vs 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. Kylie massively outsold her, charting at #1 while Victoria had to make do with a #6 result. In early 2002 Victoria returned with 'A Mind Of Its Own'. An ITV documentary supported this single, but the exposure didn't help it do anything more than equal the peak of her previous single - #6. In the early 2000s the press were particularly harsh about Victoria, and her singles peaks gave them another excuse to bring her down - #6 simply wasn't good enough! Victoria eventually decided to end her first album campaign after just two singles, when she fell pregnant with her second child. 299 - Lisa Scott-Lee - Lately Lisa bided her time after Steps split in 2001, and Steps duo H & Claire had been and gone by the time she released her first single 'Lately' in May 2003. The single charted at #6, the lowest chart position Lisa had achieved since 1998's 'Last Thing On My Mind', the second single by Steps. 'Lately' would prove to be Lisa's highest charting solo effort - her next 3 singles missed the Top 10, most notoriously 2005's 'Electric'. Lisa made a pact with MTV & the public that she would quit being a solo popstar if 'Electric' missed the Top 10, and it only peaked at #13! She has stuck to her word on the solo front, but reunited with Steps in 2011 - and Lisa performed 'Lately' during the solo section of their 2012 Ultimate Tour. |

There's so many great songs here that I've completely forgotten about! Although to be honest, 2004 was the first year when I properly got into music (also the year I bought my first ever single and album!), before then I was just a casual fan, so it's great to be reminded of quite a few classics.

What was your first single and first album? Mine would date back to 1997. 'Spice' by the Spice Girls was the first album I bought, and then 'Spice Up Your Life'... both on cassette! I've really enjoyed going through the early 2000s charts and jogging my own memory with the songs from back then. It was such a great time for pop music, although perhaps I'm sentimental towards those years because I was at school. I'm looking forward to revealing the songs I have towards the very top of my Top 500 (if I ever get there that is... I had thought I might have had this thread finished by today!) |

The first single I bought was LMC vs U2 - Take Me To The Clouds Above And 'Unwritten' by Natasha Bedingfield was my first album. I used to love snooping around the new releases in Asda after watching Top Of The Pops Saturday/CD:UK and desperately persuading my mum to let me get 2 singles this week instead of just 1 (which towards the end of 2004 become a weekly thing)

Hello Jay
Despite being of your generation (sort of) i know very little of these songs Lol. I of course love all the Madonna songs that have come so far so yay for her. Also 'You Rock My World' is one of my fave MJ songs. Controversial i know, but it comes packed with a heap of memories for me from when it was released. I will hopefully keep a closer eye on this exciting countdown and i anticipate more good songs and plenty of diversity in the top 250. Xx |

I used to love snooping around the new releases in Asda after watching Top Of The Pops Saturday/CD:UK and desperately persuading my mum to let me get 2 singles this week instead of just 1 (which towards the end of 2004 become a weekly thing) I loved 'Take Me To The Clouds Above'! *.* I do miss the days when CD singles would be in supermarkets! My mum would also get me a couple on the way home from work, every so often! Hello Jay Despite being of your generation (sort of) i know very little of these songs Lol. Xx Hi Bal Thank you for replying! I bet there will be loads you know within my Top 100~; I suppose a fair few of the ones I've listed so far are pretty forgotten/not-classic! |

'Be With You' is still to come! Two more solo Spice songs now - Emma's 2004 release 'I'll Be There' and Victoria Beckham's 'Not Such An Innocent Girl'. These singles launched the albums 'Free Me' and 'Victoria Beckham' respectively. 'Free Me' is a fantastic 60s inspired pop album and it's definitely within my Top 5 favourites of 2004! It deserved to do so much better than it did. Poor Victoria did significantly worse with her self-titled album, which is a shame because it did include some pop gems! There's plenty more solo Spice songs still to come, and also a couple of group singles. The only song by ex-Five member Abs to feature in my Top 500 is 'Little Miss Perfect'. Could this count as a guilty pleasure? I still have love for this song, and the video. Five have one more song coming up in this list. 'You Said No' is the highest placed song by Busted - it's always been my favourite of theirs and I remember being pleased when it became their first #1 single. 4 of their singles made my Top 500, and '3AM' just missed out. A couple of S Club related singles feature in this section - S Club Juniors and S Club 8 - same group, different names! 'One Step Closer' was their debut single, only prevented from #1 by the Sugababes with 'Freak Like Me'. 'Fool No More' was their first of 3 singles under the 'S Club 8' name, and was a #4 hit back in 2003. I used to wish I was in this group back then! (I was only 13 when they formed!). |
