Posting this a little bit earlier than I did last year Curious to see if anyone has voted or will be voting for the Hottest 100 this year, it'd be great to see a decent amount of Buzzjackers involved! You can get yourself familiar or start voting here, it closes on January 22nd at 1 AM British time (or use the countdown on that page if you're in another time zone). Also, here are the results from last year's Hottest 100. I've just seen an account is required to vote this year, or log in via Facebook/Twitter/Google+. Gonna get that sorted and start on this shortly! Also, PLEASE no spoilers if anything leaks! |

What is that Hoops rubbish at #1? It's kind of an ongoing trend that Australian artists do disproportionately well, since triple j play so much of it, and of course, people are more likely to see Australian artists at live shows which tends to be a good way to drive votes. Adding to that, triple j has a history particularly in the '90s and beyond where they used to play a lot more rock music, and the Hottest 100 period brings in a lot of older listeners who can't abide by a lot of hip-hop/electronic music. So we get the unfortunate situation where in 26 years of the poll existing, a dance song has never won it, the only rap song to win it was "Thrift Shop", only 4 women have ever performed on a #1 (only once with lead vocals), and Wanz is the only non-white person to ever be #1. So it all makes for a pretty safe, naff #1, which is a shame as the rest of the top 5 was excellent. |

Only heard six of those records (and three of them were Courtney Barrett).
Either Australia or I are uncool. |

#1 song sounds pleasant in the way I wouldn't mind it playing in the background as I'm doing other stuff but nothing that special about it, King Kunta would have made for a better winner.
I've been looking back at past lists, I've found a new thing to look at stats for (plus most of the time I agree with the list more than I do this year) |
