Now held at the O2 Arena, the BRIT Awards is one of, if not the, biggest events in the music calendar. With a focus on British Acts, the awards help to celebrate the year in music with a variety of awards and performances throughout the night. In recent years, the awards have toned down somewhat after it had become infamous of its controversies and it's become more focused on celebrating the music and less about, well, having fun. Notable incidents included Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood's presenting and Jarvis Cocker's protest. However, the BRITs still generates controversy to this day with recent incidents including Adele being cut off during her speech and Alex Turner's bizarre speech last year. Here's hoping that this year's awards will be another memorable show and hopefully Ant & Dec taking over from James Cordon will bring more spark into the show.

The choices of Best British Video seem quite random. Aside 'I Got U' and 'Thinking Out Loud', I can't think of anything particular about the videos which would make them deserving of a Best Video nomination. Mind you, most of the best videos of 2014 were from non-British artists so I guess they were stuck for choice.

I think they're all the Top 10 most watched videos on YouTube by British artists in the same vein as how they pick the nominees for Best British Single. It wrongly assumes though that people are always watching for the video!

Ah I see. I can kind of see the logic behind that as it eradicates subjectivity but like you say, people won't necessarily be watching for the video itself.

Rather Be should 100% be winning the Video award. Guess it'll have to settle with Single.

Is International Group a new award there? I can't recall seeing that before.

I'm not holding out for a great show after last year's was quite boring - even Beyonce was boring last year. The trinty line-up of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and George Ezra performing doesn't fill me with much excitement. I'm surprised Jessie J hasn't been asked to perform, considering she's one of last year's most successful British acts.

International Group's always been there I think, at least for the last few years. International Breakthrough and Album seemed to have disappeared though.

I would be happy with just ONE surprise winner tonight, just to make this not an Ed Sheeran/Sam Smith walkover and everything else going to whoever shows up.

International Group, International Breakthrough and International Album tend to alternate depending on whether there's been a walkaway megastar over the past year, such as 2010's awards where Lady Gaga took home three of the four International awards (which retrospectively was quite unfair on The Black Eyed Peas who had just as big as, if not a bigger year than her!)

The other two alternate, but 2010's the only year that International Group hasn't been there (and I have no idea why, was very unfair considering no group had a chance as Lady Gaga was up for the two eligible categories they could be up for!).

They should bring back the International Album award! It was last awarded in 2011.

These are my predictions. I've done most of them as the ones I 'want' to see win and those I 'think' will walk away with the awards...

Mastercard British Album
Ed Sheeran - x Think
Royal Blood - Royal Blood Want
I've only heard the singles from Royal Blood but I'd love to see a shock but I think Ed's got this one sad.gif

British Single
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
It could be any of these 3, but I really don't want Ed to get it

British Female Solo Artist
Ella Henderson Think
Paloma Faith Want

British Male Solo Artist
Ed Sheeran Think
George Ezra Want

British Group
Clean Bandit
Again, anyone other than 1D will make me happy. How they got into this category over Kasabian is beyond me

International Male Solo Artist
Hozier Want
Pharrell Williams Think

International Female Solo Artist
Sia Want
Taylor Swift Think

International Group
5 Seconds Of Summer Think
Foo Fighters Want

British Breakthrough Act
Sam Smith I'd be happy if anyone else wins this...

British Video
Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk Want this to win
One Direction - You & I If its the same voting as last year this WILL win puke.gif

My predictions:

Mastercard British Album
Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour

British Single
Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk

British Female Solo Artist
Ella Henderson

British Male Solo Artist
Ed Sheeran

British Group
Clean Bandit

International Male Solo Artist
Pharrell Williams

International Female Solo Artist
Taylor Swift

International Group
5 Seconds Of Summer

British Breakthrough Act
George Ezra

British Video
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

Quite hard to guess when you don't know how the people in charge decide these things or what the public choose (I know the latter have chosen Breakthrough and Video but I'm not sure if there was more). Wouldn't be surprised if Ed/Sam stop George from winning anything; despite all three being extremely prominent in the past year, I think George has been less so.

I chose 5SOS as International Group as they have a huge fanbase but I think someone like Royal Blood would be right up the BRITs' street. Would love Sia to win International Female but Taylor is bigger than she ever has been and is THE #1 pop star right now.

Wouldn't it be great if Damon Albarn won Best Male? He did much better in the critics end of year polls that either Ed or Sam.

Predictions:

Mastercard British Album
Ed Sheeran - x

British Single
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

British Female Solo Artist
Paloma Faith

British Male Solo Artist
Sam Smith

British Group
Clean Bandit

International Male Solo Artist
Pharrell Williams

International Female Solo Artist
Taylor Swift

International Group
The Black Keys

British Breakthrough Act
Sam Smith

British Video
Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

If Ed Sheeran / Sam Smith don't go home with multiple awards I'll be surprised. Best single / album could also go to Sam Smith if Ed doesn't win them but I doubt anyone else will get it

I don't think the International Female is clear cut at all. In fact they tend to stray away from obvious choices dominating the pop scene. Everyone expected Gaga or Katy Perry to win it last year but they gave it to Lorde!
