Sigma & Rita Ora remain at number one!
Congratulations to Sigma and Rita Ora, whose song Coming Home remains at the pole position of the chart. Subsequently, Sigma become the second artist, after Ella Henderson, to have three number ones on the chart to last more than a week at the top. Changing spent 2 weeks, Glitterball spent 4 weeks and Coming Home has currently spent 2 weeks. Coming Home prevents the six-way tie for artist with the most number ones of being broken by Little Mix, whose Secret Love Song (with Jason Derulo) has to settle for second place, for now. For information, the most number ones for an artist is three, held by Ella Henderson, Ella Eyre, Blonde, Sigma, Jess Glynne and Little Mix. Meanwhile, Fleur East's stomper Sax ascends 4 places to #3. If it was to reach number one next week, it would be the third single by an act of last year's series of The X Factor, after Something I Need by Ben Haenow (winner) and I Do by Only The Young (7th place) to reach number one on this chart. Most people would have been skeptical if told three weeks ago that Adele's Hello would be deposed from number one before the X Factor's winner single, let alone after only 3 weeks, but it has happened. Over here, it is down two places to #4, after being deposed from number one by Coming Home last week. But do not fret; the release of 25 guarantees that Hello won't follow a "doubles run" of 4-8-16-32-64-OUT from here on out, not that that was ever going to happen in the first place. After 4 weeks of moving upwards and downwards between #2 and #4, Love Me Like You falls two places to exit that zone. It is now at #5. Eyes Shut moves down a place to #6, while Never Forget You falls three places to #7 (don't worry, it isn't set to do a "mirror run" of 31-7-4-3-4-7-31 and fall to #31 next week). Sweet Lovin' blasts 33 places from just outside the top 40 to inside the top 10 at #8, while Perfect advances three places to #9 and Take Me Home falls 4 places to #10. This week's highest new entry comes from Meghan Trainor's Better When I'm Dancin', at #27, which comes with 6 other new entries. These are Aftertaste, at #58, from Delirium, two tracks from Alone In The Universe, those being When The Night Comes (#60) and One Step At A Time (#66). Get Weird's charting tracks tally increases to 13 with Clued Up entering at #84, while Be Right There is new at #93. The other will be mentionned later. There are also three re-entries, the highest of which, which I will be discussing later and not here, is actually higher than Better When I'm Dancin'. Another one are Giants by Ella Henderson at #98, which isn't the only re-entry from her this week. The other One Last Time, after Lauren Murray performed it on last week's X Factor, in Movie Week. Note: One Last Time hasn't actually ever featured in a movie, and Murray originally was performing Licence To Kill. However, due to unforeseen circonstances, which will be explained later, she and Monica Michael (whose elimination was announced twice in Olly Murs's gaffe on the results show and was performing Bang Bang (Shot You Down)) had to change their song choices due to the fact singing songs with those titles, particularily about shooting people down, wasn't appropriate. The biggest climber this week is from Ellie Goulding, who sends her Army up 41 places to #18, after her good performance on Children In Need. Something tells me she's not the only person sending armies. Meanwhile, the biggest faller is Ariana Grande's Focus, which crashes 43 places to #96. Just ahead is Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World, which, like On My Mind last week, is sent dropping down the chart like a bomb due to a dampener. Quick note, Louis Armstrong died in 1971, so unlike Ellie Goulding, it isn't because he gave an awful performance of the track. It's because a certain event is a reminder that the world we live in isn't exactly wonderful. More on that shortly. As you probably know and have guessed, the event having an influence on the chart which I am talking about are the atrocities committed by terrorists last Friday. Due to these heinous events, three songs, serving as tribute to the 128 people who have lost their lives, re-enter, climb and enter the chart. The first one is Lay Down, by Ella Henderson, which re-enters at #12, 35 places higher than its original peak, due to its lyrics and it being about a dead person. The second is Coldplay's Fix You, which originally entered last week at #71 due to there being Remembrance Day that week, jumps 37 places to #34. The third is John Lennon's Imagine, which was performed by a pianist outside the Bataclan, where the majority of the victims were murdered. Speaking of Lennon, his feat of having three songs in the top 5 simultaneously in January 1981, after his assassination, has remained unaccomplished since, until this week, where Justin Bieber has Sorry {#1}, Love Yourself {#3} and What Do You Mean? {#5} in the UK top 5. Imagine also gains points due to Lennon himself having been the victim of murder, which will have happened 35 years ago in 18 days. |
