Promo pictures for the new season are out! *.* The line up since the move to Channel 4 are all remaining

No news on premiere date yet but it's usually late August time

Posted by: Suedehead2 Aug 14 2019, 03:03 PM

It all starts again on Tuesday 27 August.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Aug 14 2019, 05:50 PM

I'm ready *.*

Never forget:

I am as moist as a good sponge with anticipation.

Hopefully the winner this year will be someone that should win rather than last year when Rahul should've been out about a month before the final, then messed up the final and still won

Posted by: Jack Aug 18 2019, 10:20 AM

Omg I always forget how much I disliked Rahul, so so annoying to watch.

Last year had a lot of likeable contestants though, in particular Kim-Joy and Ruby wub.gif

Ugh at Ruhul making an appearance

Posted by: ElectroBoy Aug 27 2019, 07:26 PM

Lots of chaotic messes... that house though the young boy made looked great until he smashed it

My guess is the guy who keeps cutting himself or the one who put double the fruit in will go - they seem bigger messes than the rest

EDIT - or the goth who can't melt sugar

Posted by: Brett-Butler Aug 27 2019, 07:51 PM

I really want Helena to be the Kim-Joy of this season, although I know in my heart of hearts that there is only one Kim-Joy, and it is Kim-Joy.

Omg I get Kim Joy vibes from her too I'm hoping we're right bc I low-key stan but she seems like she could go this week oops

Posted by: hermespice Aug 27 2019, 08:59 PM

Omg!! Can someone please make a GIF of the older guy stroking his rocket cake?? I nearly spat my dinner out 😂

Posted by: Chez Wombat Aug 27 2019, 10:31 PM

^omg that was hilarious, must've been so much giggling at that when it was filmed.

Also stanning Helena, a goth on Bake Off is always welcome, loved all those birthday cake designs!

Pretty sure they went easy on Jamie cos of his age, he's gonna annoy me :/

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 27 2019, 10:56 PM

Entertaining first week! My early faves are: Amelia, Helena & Henry (he really reminds me of Thomas Brodie-Sangster: Nanny McPhee, Love Actually & Maze Runner trilogy)

I feel like they're gonna try and push Jamie as the Liam of this series. David can F/O though. Ugh. He's gonna be the one who never really fails (and when he does it'll be all staged and over dramatised and "omg I'm leaving this week..." despite knowing full well someone else will go) and gets all the way to the end.

Not too big on Rosie either, but it's early days yet. Every one else depends on further weeks.

But the showstoppers all looked great for first week! I was really impressed by the designs of them.

Posted by: kye Aug 27 2019, 11:22 PM

i know some people can’t hide their emotions on their face but david was so so SO smug that i’ve taken such a disliking to him already + i know i’m not alone.

like jonjo said, paired with the false ‘oh my god, it’s my time to leave’ we’ll undoubtedly get in a few weeks, it’s all a bit.. ugh.

Posted by: Liаm Aug 28 2019, 12:20 AM

Amelia, Henry and Helena are my faves too, I hope the latter just had an iffy week because I love her personality. Henry is adorable and Amelia just seems like such a lovely person and has great potential with her ideas!

David and Rosie I'm not so keen on, the former's smugness gave me Dan from last year teas but nobody can be that bad drama.gif Rosie is trying a bit too hard to be funny and likeable and it's working in the opposite way.

Posted by: Conanderella Aug 28 2019, 01:30 PM

Aww Dan was so likeable, it's a shame. Jamie stayed literally because of his age, he was bottom on the technical and the showstopper didn't stop any shows...

There was something super off about David and I'm not alone it looks like yay!

Henry is my first pick for the Top 3 for sure.

Jamie did do well in the first round which is probably what saved him

Dan went - crap/ crap/ meh
Jamie went - great/crap/meh

Had Dan not put in his extra fruit in the first bake it probably would've been a different result

Posted by: Suedehead2 Aug 28 2019, 03:06 PM

With the way they edited it, you could be forgiven for thinking that Jamie was the only one to do really badly in the technical. His effort was spectacularly bad, but some of the others were also pretty awful. It's just that the footage of the baking process concentrated fairly heavily on Jamie.

Posted by: Miss Americana Aug 28 2019, 04:03 PM

I know it's early doors but for me this is seeming like one of the most likeable casts since I started watching! There are so many of them I'm already stanning, and it was such an entertaining first episode! *.*

Henry is adorable and I loved how he was genuinely bowled over by the comments on his bakes (but definitely not in an eye-roll way a la Rahul). Also loving Michael, Michelle and Amelia wub.gif

Posted by: Klaus Aug 28 2019, 06:53 PM

I don't know why (cos there's only one more baker and there was actually 15 more minutes) but the editing seemed so much quicker than normal in order to get round everyone that I was left feeling unsure who was who and who did what! Although it sure did also make it obvious as to who would be leaving/bottom 2 laugh.gif

The cast is SO young though, I miss my Vals sad.gif

Some of the showstoppers looked really great though so hopefully we're in for another good year!

Posted by: Jordan Lee Aug 28 2019, 08:22 PM

Aw Jamie is so likeable.

I was so expecting him to go but I was pleasantly happy he stayed.

I always feel sad we lose someone in week one I’d much rather we see everyone bake at least for two weeks before we get rid of people.

A few times I actually picked the winner by show one too.

Rosie stood out to me. She was very cool and calm and didn’t seem in a fluster. Due to her job she seems like she’s going to perform well under pressure. I’d be betting on her.

THIS.

Mr D* and I were commenting on this season not providing us with any iconic older characters that seem based on Victoria Wood comedies sad.gif

As for the result, I nearly always get it right but was convinced Jamie was getting the boot - he had such a heavy amount of airtime and that's usually the case for whoever goes week one.

Why? I liked Jamie. He deserved to go, but I see no reason to celebrate. He's clearly a lot better than his performance suggests; he wouldn't have made it on to the show otherwise.

Posted by: Brett-Butler Sep 4 2019, 09:08 PM

Was worried that Helena would be out after that disastrous blind bake, but she knocked it out of the park with that spider-tastic Show Stopper. Hope she's got a few more tricks up her gothy sleeves.

Posted by: Chez Wombat Sep 4 2019, 09:15 PM

I must admit Jamie's the first contestant where it had me cynically wondering if his cooking skills were the only reason he was there. He seemed quite a bit below the usual standard even for someone that leaves early.

Helena's Spider sculpture was incredible wub.gif Did love the sheep and the chicken as well (though I'm struggling to warm to Rosie).

Posted by: kye Sep 4 2019, 09:20 PM

the judges said a few times that jamie’s bakes were tasty, they just lacked finesse. he looked like he knew what he was doing, he just didn’t have the same fire as the rest of them - if he couldn’t bake, they’d say so.

I hope you're wrong. I wouldn't want to see Bake Off choosing people because of their personality rather than their baking skills. After all, the idea that baking skills might be less important when selecting contestants was one of the reasons people were uneasy about the move to a commercial channel.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 4 2019, 11:52 PM

If they chose Jamie for that reason he’d have went a lot further than week 2!

He was good to be fair it’s just the pressure gets to some more than it does others.

Bread week next week. Am I right in thinking the bread week star baker usually makes the final

i wasn't 'celebrating' though. just a sigh of relief the correct decision was made and tbh he should've gone in the first episode. i liked Dan far more

Can Jamie be on Extra Slice every week?

Posted by: ElectroBoy Sep 10 2019, 07:36 PM

David seems to get more smug by the episode...

At this stage Henry is my fave and I like Priya and Alice too

Posted by: Klimawechsel Sep 10 2019, 08:30 PM

So Michael is making the final after winning bread week? funky.gif

Posted by: dandy* Sep 10 2019, 08:37 PM

Yeah that was a deserved exit this week, she was by far the weakest. Two weeks in a row where it's been impossible to hide even with editing.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 10 2019, 08:59 PM

100%, she was very lucky last week that Jamie managed to stretch another week and thus was a bit worse.

Henry is pulling away as my fave, he's too adorable with his reactions to things and the faces he pulls. I also love Priya, on the other end of the scale smug David and Rosie can go right now. Idek why I don't like Rosie, she's not done anything really but she's so irritating and I can't really even put my finger on why laugh.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat Sep 10 2019, 09:17 PM

Rosie is really annoying. Michael my favourite from the early weeks, maybe it's because the ages are so similar but doesn't seem much to be differentiating them this year, most of the women just blend into one.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 10 2019, 09:26 PM

David I don’t really see the smug thing about.

Rosie I can sort of see it. I think she low key looks down on some of the others but tries to come across as being modest when discussing her bakes. She reminds me of someone I worked with when I worked with Jet 2.

tbh just here for Henry and his reactions to everything

Posted by: Klimawechsel Sep 17 2019, 08:20 PM

Glad we got to keep Priya over Phil! Neither are winners but Phil's bakes have never wowed me. Interesting to see a look of surprise at going home as nearly all these Brits are convinced they are going home each week.

Posted by: Suedehead2 Sep 17 2019, 09:20 PM

To survive when her technical was so bad that neither judge bothered to taste it was quite an achievement. At least Michael's signature tasted good despite looking a mess. All the more reason for not liking his comment that he would have binned it if he was making it at home. Why bin something that is perfectly edible?

Now for the discussion about Henry's balls.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 17 2019, 10:14 PM

Phil was shocked!!

To be fair so was I.

Priya and Michael had bad weeks but the final challenge sort of played as a strength to them due to their heritage.

This was one of those weeks for me though where hardly anything looked appetising to eat laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm Sep 17 2019, 11:02 PM

Priya's technical was an absolute disaster, I didn't think her showstopper was gonna be enough to come back from that (I thought she was gonna have to totally knock it out of the park to stay), but I'm glad it was!

Then again, basically everyone did bad in the technical so they did say a lot of them were in the mix to go depending on the Showstopper. Phil is one of those I kept forgetting was there so from a viewing standpoint I can't say he's too much of a loss.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 17 2019, 11:57 PM

His shock that he was going home though lmao. He coasted through on being too bland and safe, I'd say week 4 is perfectly fine for him whereas Priya and Michael have both had fantastic bakes before this week so the potential for them to stay was far more beneficial to the show.

Henry solidified himself as my absolute fave today. My heart melted quicker than his Ice Cream was going to when it was clear what was going to happen to it </3 Thankfully he was top 3 in the technical and (I assume) signature challenges so he could afford the poor effort for the showstopper - at least he took a risk though! He'll be the contestant where he won't get star baker for a while, but will absolutely smash it out the park one week, to the joy of pretty much everyone and then go the week after in the quarter final or something laugh.gif

I don't actually "hate" anyone this year tbh. Not even David. He seems arrogant, but it isn't quite as unbearable as Steven from a couple of years ago.. yet. Rosie is irritating, but her nervous laugh is adorable.. pretty much the only thing going for her though tbf.

That’s a good point about Phil to be fair!

Like he’s been constantly ok throughout the whole thing. I’ve never had him down as having a bad bake where he could be in danger but then on the other side of things he’s never been in the running for star baker either.

He reminds me of someone that’s been on it before a few seasons ago it may have been a BBC series. He liked shortbread biscuits and the judges kept saying all his bakes were nice but plain.

Posted by: Mart!n Sep 18 2019, 10:56 AM

Love the episode, especially the bit about Henry's balls laugh.gif

On the whole it was disaster of a show all round I was surprised it wasn't a double elimination to be honest.

My favourite contestants seem to be Steph and Alice. I do hate Michael though, Henry should stop wearing ties laugh.gif seriously do you cook or bake with a tie on. mellow.gif

Posted by: Klaus Sep 20 2019, 09:44 PM

Another week, another over-reliance on the showstopper.

I do prefer Priya but they ddn’t even taste a round! The older contestants are always quicker out the door if they’re slight whiff of danger. It should have been Priya or Michael.

Posted by: Chez Wombat Sep 21 2019, 02:49 PM

It should've been a double really. I can't argue a lot with Phil going as he wasn't spectacular and he didn't really try to step outside his comfort zone or anything, but Priya is extremely lucky, taking all three bakes into account, she was clearly right at the bottom. Gonna be tougher the later they wait as we could well lose someone that was very good on a later week.

I think it must have come down to flavour as both that went home had really bad comments around blandness or flavours not working

Posted by: Klimawechsel Sep 24 2019, 08:26 PM

I'd have definitely gone for Priya! Helena I can kind of understand as she's kinda scrapped to get this far already but it shouldn't have been in the week she won the technical! Michelle is a big shock though, she's usually one of the strongest.

She's grown on me quite alot actually and I find her funny now. I think she did enough in the past to warrant staying.

I think Michelle deserved to go and Priya; the latter of which has had 2 shocking weeks in a row and been saved

Posted by: Suedehead2 Sep 24 2019, 10:09 PM

I don't really dislike any of them this year so it's always a bit sad to see people go. This week's ideas were all amazing. If they had all worked as planned, I would have been left feeling very hungry laugh.gif Good to see Henry still doing well!

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 24 2019, 10:14 PM

Gutted for Helena to go after winning the technical!

Rosie’s been more consistent pretty much every other week which is why I feel she stayed.

But Michael and Priya probably should’ve left tbh.

Or maybe even David who come last in technical.

Strange result.

Perhaps they have favourites though?

Last year Rahul won but was the worst baker for multiple weeks leading to the final (later down the line than where she show is at currently).

Maybe they let Helena go to go out on a high?

Also confused at why Michelle left too.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 24 2019, 10:41 PM

God knows how they judged it, if they went off just today it probably should have been Priya and Rosie, if they went off overall I still would have gone Priya and I suppose Helena, but I don't think anyone who wish the technical should go, maybe if they did an absolutely terrible showstopper laugh.gif Either way I don't think previous weeks should come into it, on a show like it should be that they judge what's put in front of them that day/week. I feel like there's a bit too much weight on the showstopper too, at least in terms of going home, I get that it's the biggest thing they do and it's kind of make or break, but some weeks it feels like the technical and signature barely matter because htey just do whatever based on the showstopper laugh.gif

Michelle I'm totally baffled at, she's not been "in the bottom" or on the radar of being in danger really yet one slightly bland tasting showstopper and she's gone?? The only thing I can think of is they kind of made an example of her, after two technicals in a row with a less than ideal standard (moreso last week's) , they wanted to shake them up and show them that anyone could go if they don't get their act together?

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 24 2019, 10:56 PM

I’ve never seen anyone leave yet win the technical.

Even with it being a double.

It’s a bit of a salty statement tbh but I do feel it was a bit like they didn’t think Helena was ever going to win so they let her go out on
a high. Like tbh overall she’s probably amongst the weakest but this week alone she genuinely wasn’t in my eyes someone who seemed in danger of going I’d have been less shocked at her at getting star baker!

Posted by: Liаm Sep 24 2019, 11:00 PM

Flora did leave having won the technical in series 6, but that was the semi final which makes much more sense, when there's only 4 it comes down to splitting hairs sometimes and iirc she didn't do great otherwise.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat Sep 25 2019, 07:15 PM

The technical never really seems to carry much weight, and the theme for her other bakes was just getting boring - glad she went. When they said two were slipping towards the bottom I thought it was nailed on Helena and Priya - Michelle really shocked me

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 25 2019, 07:46 PM

QUOTE(Jack @ Sep 24 2019, 09:36 PM) *
I really don't get the hate for Rosie AT ALL?! It feels a bit mean sad.gif
I actually don't mind her as much anymore, her nervous laugh is so relateable and sweet! Then her disaster with the cake on the floor and her reaction was really heartbreaking tbh. But then when she's doing good she's just as smug as Dan or Steve from a couple of years back to me. laugh.gif So I'm kinda on the fence with her.

But I'm so pissed at that result mainly coz Priya should've gone. I feel like Helena & Michelle still had a few more rounds in them and shouldn't have gone when they were at least middling on all the challenges this week (with Helena winning one). Keeping Rosie this week was not the right choice either. She completely screwed up on the signature. Had a just as bad and disastrous technical with an ok-good showstopper..

Posted by: Chez Wombat Sep 25 2019, 08:59 PM

They might as well just ditch the technical challenge for all the worth it carries, I can see how the other challenges matter more as they show creativity, but to disregard it completely when it's meant to be based on all three is just false. I assume they were getting bored of Helena's gothic theme and they just wanted to get rid of her as she'll never win, but that felt really unfair. It seemed very close which is a good thing, but Rosie was surely a better choice given she was lacklustre throughout. Michelle I kind of saw coming as she didn't get any great comments.

I guess Henry will take the mantle as my favourite now, but honestly I don't feel strongly about any of them, they're all technically good of course, but none of them really have a distinctive or memorable style (or personality I must say, as lovely as they all seem)

Posted by: Suedehead2 Sep 25 2019, 10:01 PM

The last two technicals seem to have been pretty difficult, last week particularly so. If there isn't much to separate them (as was the case last week when they ranged between decidedly poor and terrible) then it isn't going to carry much weight.

- Let me get the fly off you
- They come to me cause I'm dead

i'm just gonna leave it here so that everyone gets reminded what a bland bunch of bakers has remained both bakes and personality-wise. Such a dip in quality compared to last year.

WHERE ARE ALL THE NADIYAS AT?! I recently rewatched her season and got reminded why she remains by far the best of all time. So likeable and memeable yet still extremely graceful and fierce plus of course her bakes seemed most extraordinary from this side of the screen.

Also LET'S DO A GBBO CONTESTANT RATE!

Posted by: f Sep 26 2019, 10:50 AM

oh and this week's theme was a bit weird, i hope they don't do such unambiguous weeks moving forward

Posted by: f Sep 26 2019, 10:55 AM

i sometimes watch GBBO using VPN connecting to the US on Netflix and they dub it as "The Great British Baking Show" apparently due to some other "Bake Off" named show. Interestingly Sandi and Noel also have to do another take to pronounce it like that for the American version.

come on british bake off invasion!

honestly just get rid of the technicals, they don’t even mean anything and they’ve ran out of bakes

Such a random result overall, especially it being the week they do the double. They took it well because I’d have been fuming, I really don’t get it.

If Priya or Michael stay at the expense of Henry then i'm done; both have been sh!te for 3 weeks now

Posted by: ElectroBoy Oct 1 2019, 08:11 PM

she should've gone 2 weeks ago!

Posted by: Liаm Oct 2 2019, 01:29 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO rotf.gif

I was secretly hoping Rosie might go this time but it had to be Priya really after the last couple of weeks, I thought she might slip out of danger again after her showstopper was good laugh.gif So pleased for Steph getting SB again, she is bloody brilliant!

Posted by: f Oct 3 2019, 07:30 AM

Steph stepping on Ian's toes. Does that mean we'll have a different winner in the end?

This is honestly the worst Bake Off season ever for me. I just can't get around liking anyone properly apart from Helena and there were no 'AMAZING!!' bakes so far. Meh.

Posted by: Mikee1981 Oct 3 2019, 09:44 AM

I forgot Steff was even there in that episode, I didn't even recall her making anything in the first round on Tuesday, something about her I can't seem to warm to, not sure what, not sure if its cos she's quite quiet and just seems to potter away on own and the others seem to mix in and help others...

anyways here for any bromance with Henry and David and throw Michael in the mix..

Rosie probably next out poss Michael

Henry sad.gif

It's pissing me off that Rosie has been awful for the past 4 weeks now and has somehow always managed to scrape through. I feel like David might pull off a Nancy-esque shock win although if he doesn't get a Star Baker next week surely not.

Posted by: kye Oct 15 2019, 11:02 PM

out of them, i want david to win the least.. which means he probably will.

the most deserving has to be steph but i feel like the final 4 are really boring now + i’m not really rooting for any of them to do well.

Posted by: Liаm Oct 15 2019, 11:23 PM

Yeah definitely, I feel like Henry and probably Helena were the only two characters that stood out this series sad.gif Steph is great and seems lovely but she's more of a Sophie type winner, of course the show isn't Big Brother and isn't about personality but when you're watching them every week you are of course left wanting more when you're left with nice people who don't have that spark rather than someone eccentric like Helena or someone adorably naive like Henry.

Posted by: Jonjo Oct 15 2019, 11:51 PM

Henryyyy </3 I've only been following the show since it's C4 move (slowly - very slowly catching older ones on Netflix but goodness me it's such a BORE so far idgi) and he's probs my 2nd fave contestant. So adorkable. wub.gif

Rosie being bad, again is annoying, but Henry had such a bad week this week that I can't really fault him going home, but I feel like it was too close to call that surely they could've looked at past week performances? sad.gif Nvm.

A forgettable final 4 for me. Like, I don't hate or dislike any of them, but I don't "love" or care about them much either.

Plot twist for next week, Henry and Helena are brought back as the final 2 *.*

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 15 2019, 11:55 PM

Has every winner been star baker before?

Steph really didn’t deserve it tonight although I was sort of glad David didn’t get it because his smug face and mannerisms are unbearable. I didn’t see it at first but now I really do!

Steph and David feel like the best shouts for winners so far but I really can’t call it just yet.

I didn’t agree with Paul’s comment about the other four being better. I think Henry was the second best of the 5 if we were going off the whole thing rather than just that one week.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Oct 16 2019, 01:46 AM

Farewell, sweet Henry! cry.gif

I don't have particularly strong feelings about any of the final four. Rosie kind of amuses me with how fast she speaks, to the point it's sometimes difficult to understand her... and she's given us the best gif of the entire series... so maybe I'll root for her x

They didn't have it in season 1 but since then yes! Nadiya in series 6 was the first winner to have more than one (she had 3), in 2014 someone who had 5 star bakers lost to a woman who just had one from the first week too. I've just got a feeling that David's consistency might snatch him it in the end, particularly if he gets a star baker next week sad.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 16 2019, 11:35 AM

I thought everyone had! I’ve watched this since the one Nancy won.

Of who’s left I really hope it’s one of the women who wins. It doesn’t very nice saying you don’t want someone to win but David’s smugness and the way he has to better everyone with stuff he knows is just so off putting.

Posted by: LMLou Oct 16 2019, 01:54 PM

I kinda fell in love with Rosie last episode after disliking her most of the season. It's kinda a weird mix of like clumsiness and not really caring as much as the others but always managing to pull something together that I love.

Posted by: dandy* Oct 16 2019, 06:59 PM

I do like the ones that are left, I just don't exactly root for them - I'm really warming to Rosie as I'm finding her chats with Noel amusing... and I do like Steph too.

But none of them are as great as Henry or Helena. Henry has made me laugh or smile so often over the past few weeks, he's one of my favourite ever contestants. Still gutted as I hoped he would make the final.

I think they all went into the showstopper fairly even. Most of those showstoppers seemed to be fairly poor. Henry's downfall was that his wasn't particularly ambitious and it still wasn't that good. I'm as sorry as anyone to see him go, but I think it was the right decision sad.gif Still, he's on Extra Slice on Friday, so that's something to look forward to.

Ever since they got rid of Helena my favourite has been Alice. I'm rooting for her now but she's still just 9/10 compared to previous years.

I also agree with the decision based on this week's challenge. That pastry was thick as f***

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat Oct 17 2019, 06:49 PM

As soon as Paul cut that slice of Henry's pie I knew he was off given how he'd banged on about all the others being too dry. He was easily my favourite of those left, but don't see how anyone can argue with him going based on this week.

Posted by: f Oct 25 2019, 12:10 PM

Everyone gave up on this season lmao~

Rosie going was the right decision although I would've liked David to go already.

Had forgotten Alice already had SB week 2 so she actually might be a contender. David will have to put something outstanding next week and hope for the others to fail for him to get close to winning.

Steph is surely going to do an Ian and flop in the final oops

Posted by: Liаm Oct 25 2019, 12:25 PM

Yeah I think Alice is gonna win, I was a bit surprised she got Star Baker though over Steph. I didn't want either David or Rosie in the final but at least David had a few good weeks, Rosie was really clinging on for a good 4 or 5 weeks just by virtue of being lucky that someone else was slightly worse. I very much doubt he'll win now without a Star Baker, but I get the same feeling about Steph in the final.

Posted by: Suedehead2 Oct 25 2019, 01:49 PM

I thought people had stopped watching as a protest against Henry leaving laugh.gif

Rosie was indeed incredibly lucky to have got as far as the semi-final. Her survival for that long should help to convince people that they are judged by their performance each week rather than over the course of the series. Her performance across the series was far worse than the other three. Has she ever been in contention for Star Baker?

Posted by: Liаm Oct 25 2019, 02:21 PM

The only time I think she was in contention is that time she made the chicken out of biscuits iirc!

Posted by: kye Oct 26 2019, 03:17 PM

this week really annoyed me. alice’s sugar glass cabinet was by far the worst of them all + they didn’t even touch on that? then they gave her star baker. i’ll be furious if she wins! laugh.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat Oct 29 2019, 09:33 PM

David absolutely nailed that. Fully deserved win based on tonight.

Definitely. Hard as the editors tried, it was obvious David was going to win part way through the final challenge. He won the technical comfortably and his showstopper was clearly going better than the other two.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Oct 30 2019, 01:09 AM

David deserved to win based off that final.

Steph really struggled probably down to nerves. It’s a shame as going into the final she was probably who Prue and Paul had down as the winner but it wouldn’t have felt right her winning after that final.

Rosie was my first week pick of who I thought would win so I didn’t get that right this year sad.gif

But it was comfortably David’s night tonight. I didn’t really want him to win but I can’t argue with it. It wasn’t even close really this final.

I guess David’s now the first ever winner who’s never been star baker!

Posted by: Mart!n Oct 30 2019, 10:03 AM

I really felt for Steph since she was rather consistent throughout the competition, but it boiled down to the final when she struggled with her first challenge and it all went pear-shaped from there, I guess it was nerves and lost her confidence.

Mind you all the contestants had issues with their first 2 challenges, it just went David's way in the final challenge.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Oct 31 2019, 03:38 AM

Poor Steph really stumbled at the final hurdle cry.gif I felt for her, it was pretty brutal.

David keeping his cool and being consistent really paid off... well done to him!

Posted by: Chez Wombat Nov 1 2019, 09:25 PM

I fell really behind here, but I'm finally caught up! It was pretty clear at the end that David was winning and it was definitely deserved and emphasises it's all based on that week (I was really scared they'd go all X Factor were setting up that Alice parents issue to set up her winning and her parents coming in right at the last minute), he also never really had a bad week, which is arguably more important than star baker as we clearly saw with Steph, it can lead to the pressure becoming too much in the final.

Although he won't be a particularly memorable winner in my eyes, but then it's the same with Steph and Alice in that they were all clearly good but just not very memorable overall which made this a less engaging series overall. Indeed, Henry and Rosie would've been my favourites since the last time I posted, was rather gutted they both mucked up right at the end </3 (Rosie in particular I had such a turnaround with, her banter with Noel was one of the highlights).

No great surprise but Matt Lucas has confirmed that filming of this year’s series has been delayed. I assume it was supposed to start around now.

Filming of Bake-Off is due to start later this month. Contestants and crew members will be in quarantine for 14 days before they start so I assume they will then proceed to record the whole thing in one block rather than over a succession of weekends.
