Yeh his first album was unreal, the second not so good, looking forward to this though.
I really liked the second one! Not as much as the debut but the singles in particular are excellent (Magnetised, Concrete, Here I Am and Silhouette)! Jubilee Road lags behind both for me but maybe I need to revisit it.
Always look forward to a new album from Mr Odell - loooove his voice and have found his albums to be consistent
Tom Odell is so talented, Another Love is one of the best song of the 2010s, and it's a sorta TikTok thing so it's helping keep his name out there
personally albums 2 and 3 were disappointing but at least there was always 1 song at least that was extraordinary, so there's hope
Song and video premiere tonight at 7pm gmt on @youtube.
theres a little preview of the song on IG and sounds great
Just heard this on Radio 1 and really liked it. Will need a few more listens but it feels like a Tom Odell song but with a freshened up sound.
Video premiere here at 7:
Out on Spotify already though, already loving. I agree that it's very Tom but with a progression! He does these emotional tracks really well.
oh very good on 1st listen, good that his showing evolution too
I can't get over the final 40 seconds
I like it immediately!
I like it and think I’ll like it more after a few more listens
As expected, the album is slated to be out this year.
From https://hitsdailydouble.com/the_bside&id=325218&title=TOM-ODELL-GETS-“NUMB”:
Tom will be performing on Graham Norton on 12th March
Album is called monsters, out 25th June 2021 and the track monster, vol. 1 is out at midnight!
1 numb
2 over you yet
3 noise
4 money
5 tears that never dry
6 monster, vol. 2
7 lockdown
8 lose you again
9 fighting fire with fire
10 problems
11 me and my friends
12 country star
13 by this time tomorrow
14 streets of heaven
15 don't be afraid of the dark
16 monster, vol. 1
Really enjoying 'numb', quite an unexpected direction from him with the instrumental! But the vocals still sound like classic Tom Odell (reminds me a bit of 'Can't Pretend') so it feels like a pretty natural evolution.
Stunning track, quite a different mood to numb so it makes sense they're at polar opposite ends of the album.
'Numb' is pretty decent but can't get into 'Monsters' at all, the performance on Graham Norton was just dull
He sounded quite strained!
Same song as v.1 but the production is beefed up! I prefer this version I think.
Yeah, v2 is so much better than v1, some production is exactly what the song needed!
got this on the mail!
“hello! my new single 'lose you again' is coming on friday and i am very excited for you all to hear it. i put a lot of work into this song and i'm really proud of it.
to celebrate, i’m gonna do another live stream show on june 12th. the previous two we have done of these have been so special... if you pre-save 'lose you again' via the button below you will get magical first access to tickets.”
Another really good one, this album is already shaping up to be a lot better than Jubilee Road. Ranking the songs we've had so far:
1 monster, v.2
2 numb
3 lose you again (potential to overtake numb I think)
4 monster, v.1
5 money
I don't love money, but it's still pretty decent. Adore the top 3 monster v.1 has become a bit redundant for me since v.2 came out
The album is out! It's an interesting listen, it's obvious he's tried to experiment more, particularly on the shorter songs like lockdown and country star, which I assume work somewhat as interludes? I really love me and my friends, streets of heaven and don't be afraid of the dark. I like the album more than Jubilee Road on one listen for sure, perhaps not far from Wrong Crowd either?
there doesn't seem to be much buzz, worried he's gonna underperform in the charts
it's a pity the tiktok generation that embraced Another Love is not investigating further
I was hoping for more buzz as the material this era is stronger than the last one, but support has been low for a while so it's not surprising sadly
nice cover album
The album's even better on a 2nd play I think the problems interlude is very clunky and the lowest point of the album for me but otherwise it's so good. streets of heaven has the potential to become one of my top faves by him I think, what a beauty!
Im disappointed with its sales and chart positions, i actually thought he might have a show in for number 1 but he isnt even close, i hope he can hold top 10.
So haunting and beautiful. One of his best ever?
Really like streets of heaven, have to in the right mood to fully enjoy it.
It's probably his best album since his debut for me, I think I liked all of it apart from some of the interludes, even though it's a bit of a mixed bag sonically in terms of half of it being classic Tom Odell piano tracks and the other half being quite experimental stuff. Melodically it's really strong throughout - streets of heaven, by this time tomorrow, me and my friends, and tears that never dry were my early favourites aside from the pre-release tracks. Of those, both versions of monster and lose you again were my favourites, and money is catchy.
My thoughts on first listen
I understand he has experimented a little bit but sadly I’m not a fan of points where he has done that
Numb - love how this song builds and love emotional intensity to it. Good album opener 9/10
Over You Yet - definitely an album track. Can see this one growing. Alright on first listen 6/10
Noise - not sure about the effects added to his voice but I looove the feel of this. It feels so beautifully melancholic 8/10
Money - I think this an odd single choice. Not one of my faves but maybe it will grow on me 5/10
Tears That Never Dry - this song happens and that’s about it. Love his voice on the track 6/10
Monster v2 - a good solid song, with Tom’s voice shining through 8/10
Lockdown - not a fan. The effects on his voice take so much away from the song 3/10
Lose You Again - obligatory anthemic song from Tom. Voice sounds great on it 7/10
Fighting Fire With Fire - album filler and chorus is a bit of a let down 5/10
Problems - pointless interlude 2/10
Me and My Friends - better and sounds nothing like we’ve heard from Tom before. Think this one could be a grower 6/10
Country star - like the lyrics. Not crazy about the song, it’s just ok 5/10
By This Time Tomorrow - not much to say about this song. It’s simple and sweet 6/10
Streets of Heaven - a great Odell ballad. On first listen it’s not on the same level of Constellations for me, but nice anyways 7/10
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark - like this song on first listen. Not sure it will progress to me loving it though 7/10
Monster v1 - brilliant end to the album. 9/10
Tom's made a new version of Streets of Heaven and released it as a single, with the album version renamed the demo. It's a beautiful track and while the demo had more raw vocals, this take on the track feels suitably bleak for such a powerful topic.
Video up at 3pm, out on Spotify at midnight local (so out now in the UK)
