Hot rumor for the French song this year? Recently released but generally flew under the radar in the grand scheme of things like J'ai Cherche last year? Artist signed to the same label and managed by the same people as Amir? Fits in with the modern pop sound France are trying to go for after it worked so well in 2016?

...why yes!

Posted by: Cal 17th January 2017, 09:48 AM

Well that would be a FAB entry so I hope it's all true!

Posted by: Ryan. 17th January 2017, 06:40 PM

Hmm it is fantastic but I'm not going to get carried away. She does have the same team/toured with Amir and the song is 3 minutes long and released this month (as Amir did).

Edoardo (the head of delegation) has been teasing a (quite amazing) song by Eugenie so it looks like she is this year's "Sasha" in terms of being the decoy to put the rumours onto the wrong track. Hopefully it will be Alma but I imagine we have yet to hear it, Amir was kept so well under wraps last year despite being released I believe that Edoardo will do the same magic again.

Posted by: Ryan. 19th January 2017, 10:05 PM

The journalist that leaked Amir two weeks ahead of schedule last year has "revealed" that two acts that remain in the race for 2017 are Slimane and Florent Mothe! It remains to be seen if anyone else is on that shortlist or not...

Posted by: Cal 19th January 2017, 10:11 PM

Slimane would be AMAZING. His version of 'À fleur de toi' is sublime.

YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

REALLY good entry from France yet again!

Posted by: Qassändra 9th February 2017, 05:11 PM

OMG YES!

Posted by: gooddelta 9th February 2017, 05:31 PM

This just blows everything else confirmed so far out of the water, I've been absolutely hammering this ever since it was posted above, stunning entry from France once again and I would love to see another top ten finish for them.

Posted by: Ryan. 9th February 2017, 06:20 PM

When I first saw that tweet announcement it was just an image and a link so I assumed it was just Edoardo getting engaged or something! :')

Posted by: Iz~ 9th February 2017, 06:35 PM

Oh my YES. Modern French pop is so sublime <3

Posted by: Hayzayy 9th February 2017, 08:00 PM

I quite like it but I like the pre-chorus a lot more than the actual chorus laugh.gif
I can see her doing well, but I'm not sure she can quite deliver a big live performance.

Posted by: cqmerqn 9th February 2017, 08:15 PM

Is that the Dye My Hair girl

Posted by: RobBob 10th February 2017, 02:54 AM

Nah, a different ALMA.

Posted by: Liаm 10th February 2017, 03:26 AM

OMGGGGGGGGGG YAASS

Loved this since it was posted the other week as a potential entry, they've definitely pulled it out the bag again after Je cherché and this could do just as well. I agree this blows all other confirmed entries so far out of the water, for sure. Love it wub.gif

Posted by: Umi 10th February 2017, 07:02 AM

I really hope this does well both in the contest and in the French charts, because I think this cements Eurovision being credible in France if it does. There's a lot riding on this! I'm kind of surprised it's entirely in French, and I think that's kind of brave following 'J'ai cherché', so I hope it works out. It's a good song and it has tons of potential for staging.

Alma did a somewhat interesting interview in French http://www.20minutes.fr/culture/2020171-20170224-eurovision-concours-peu-comme-campagne-politique-estime-alma?utm_medium=Social&xtref=twitter.com&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter&utm_term=Autofeed#link_time=1487969454, which has quite a few details about where France are going with the entry. They're currently working on remixing the song to give the song a "eurovisionesque" moment, and Alma has written a chorus in English which they're considering using (seems like a bad idea to be but whatevever~). Performance-wise they're going with the super French aesthetic seen in the music video (and her performance at the Ukrainian selection for those who saw that), they're looking at the high tech options available to them and they've not decided on having dancers or not.

I'm glad they're being ambitious and looking at things broadly, but I only really have so much faith in the French delegation so I could fairly easily see them turning this from a somewhat safe top 15 to a bottom 5. Let's hope they have good things up their sleeve!

Snippet of the revamp which, unfortunately, includes English lyrics

Debuting through wiwibloggs, when will Ryan :cheeseblock:

Posted by: LexC 10th March 2017, 04:08 PM

Oooh that sounds like it's even bigger and more epic, me likey!

Posted by: Alpha. 11th March 2017, 04:11 PM

Final version out now:

I really love the original so this will take some getting used to. That said, I do think the English sections in the chorus work quite well

Posted by: Ryan. 11th March 2017, 04:17 PM

It's so much better in context of the whole song, it definitely feels bigger now production-wise and more accessible for a Eurovision audience!

Posted by: AdamAloud 11th March 2017, 04:20 PM

I really don't think those small parts in English enhance the song at all, it feels more pointless than Italy last year.

That being said I do like the enhanced production so hopefully it can still be another great result for France, the song really deserves it!

Posted by: Jerick 11th March 2017, 04:21 PM

I really don't like the english part... but they have done a great job with the production

Posted by: Umi 11th March 2017, 04:23 PM

That is so much better. I think I like the English and the production completely outstrips the original.

Posted by: LexC 11th March 2017, 04:44 PM

Brilliant, certainly adds to the DRAMA of the number which definitely works for me.

The thing that a lot of people don't get is that with a lot of contemporary French pop it is increasingly the norm to switch up English and French in the same song for no real concrete reason other than to just play around. So in that sense, making it more like the contemporary music market is something worth commending the French team for (spoiler alert for when I eventually get around to France on the blog lol).

Posted by: Hayzayy 14th March 2017, 09:34 PM

I love the new production, I wasn't sure on the English parts at first but they grow on me.
The last minute is f***ing amazing though!

Posted by: Liаm 15th March 2017, 01:04 AM

I love this revamp, it was already among my faves of the year but this elevates it even more!

Posted by: Hayzayy 15th March 2017, 09:49 PM

This performance is from February on Ukranian TV, so it's the previous mix but it's still very good and it translates better than I expected live !

Alma for the win wub.gif

And here is an acoustic version with Amir (from last year) :

It's really nice to see how much the French delegation is doing to make her big, and how the whole country seems to be into the Eurovision again! Thanks Amir I guess smile.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy 1st April 2017, 02:03 PM

It's still the French version though, I can't wait to hear her sing the new version!

I'm not sure the "standing being the mic" option is the best for her though, the song is fun and if she was dancing around a bit it would probably get more people into it.

And here she is singing a cover of the Eurovision winning song "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" wub.gif

Posted by: Lieowstic 1st April 2017, 03:03 PM

Ooh I love that cover of Poupée de cire, poupée de son wub.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy 2nd April 2017, 04:44 PM

And here she is singing with Måns Zelmerlöw !

Posted by: Hayzayy 3rd April 2017, 08:06 PM

AMAZING performance cheer.gif

Posted by: jjake 9th April 2017, 02:37 AM

if she can get a decent bit of staging coupled with a decent placing in the running order then there's some sort of hope...frustratingly the songs the best part of the entire package

Posted by: jjake 9th April 2017, 02:38 AM

...and WHAT a song! the rest lets it down

Posted by: Hayzayy 9th April 2017, 03:43 PM

She's so cute wub.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy 5th May 2017, 08:17 PM

Oh and her first album is out today in France !

Posted by: Hayzayy 12th May 2017, 08:57 AM

We need to show some love to this year's competition closing song wub.gif

Posted by: Iz~ 12th May 2017, 09:07 AM

Yes - one of my absolute favourites, hope it can make an impact by closing this year with a bang and lessen the impact of Bulgaria

Posted by: Umi 17th May 2017, 11:27 PM

Her album is really good, would recommend checking it out to anyone who liked 'Requiem'/her specifically. Favourites are probably 'Ma peau aime' and 'Avec des est-ce' but the only one I really dislike is 'Ivre' (I have no idea why she is so obsessed with that song). Couldn't pick a second single though.
