As some of you have been able to tell, I’ve become increasing frustrated with the task of compiling these, and the recent chart rule changes have been pretty much the final straw. It is now impossible for me to compile figures that I can reconcile either to the official sales (where known) or to positions on the YTD list. I therefore regret to say that I am stopping compiling sales estimates, starting in a few week’s time.
If anyone is interested in taking over compilation, please PM me, and perhaps I could transfer my accumulated archive to you, and/or offer help in taking over. Regards, |

Thanks so much for doing it over the years Vidcapper, it's always been really helpful. This year they've become somewhat redundant with chart sales being different to "real sales", and now they've made even more changes so it's understandable why you'd want to stop.

I don't blame you Paul. It's now impossible to calculate sales given that there are now three measures of calculation in play: the first, the 100:1 ratio which is still used for certifications and official YTD sales, the 150:1 streams /sales ratio which is used for most tracks and now the 300:1 streams /sales ratio which is selectively used depending on whether a track is on ACR.
It's something I wouldn't even like to estimate given the three measures, but thanks for doing the YTD sales over the years, it's been most appreciated. |

Thanks for giving me lots of sales over the past year and a bit. Must be so frustrating putting this together every week!

thanks for the effort, can't imagine how hard it is compiling sales estimates now that a sale isn't always a sale.

It's a shame to hear about this, I haven't really paid much attention to the YTDs for a while anyway but very much the end of an era, thanks for all the effort you've put into this for god knows how long. I understand though, the new chart rules have made the singles YTD an utter mess.

Thanks for your time and effort over the years Vidcapper - I suppose the end of year charts now are going to be full of shocks, once the OCC decide what measure of sales they want to use for them! Ever since streaming came in they seem to have lost any semblance of consistency or common sense.

Really appreciate the work that has gone into compiling these estimates over the years, I have always enjoyed seeing the movement especially in the last month of the year.
It has become increasingly difficult to maintain accuracy and your decision is totally understandable. |

Thanks for the effort you've put in over the years compiling and estimating the sales of so many songs/albums! I'm not surprised you giving it up given the new chart rules are a pain to keep up with. You'd have to track so many different songs closely to see whether or not they're elligible for 300:1 ratio.

Do the quarterly YTD top 50 sales come from music week? And will we still get those

Thanks for all your work up to this point. One of the things that got me on to buzzjack in the first place. It is a shame things have gotten so messy these days with uk sales, that it is practically impossible for people who don't have the inside information to keep track.

I've decided to continue with albums for now, as without rule-changes my estimation method still works on them.
After all, I do still have a C+ sub with months to run, so I might as well make use of it. This post has been edited by vidcapper: 22nd July 2017, 02:05 PM |
