Should certainly be an interesting Round of 16. There are at least 4 countries left in that really wouldn't have expected to still be in, so whether those matches will go the way they would on paper or whether the surprises keep coming will be interesting to see!

Screwed up the time-slot of having USA play at 5am local time and Netherlands at 3am local time. Would've had more eyeballs watching from both countries if it was switched. (10pm EST and 10am in Netherlands)

Spain comfortably through against Switzerland - a shame for the Swiss given they won the group but looking at it it does feel like they would've struggled if they'd gotten Japan as well, so just mismatched groups it seems. That own goal for Spain was an interesting one though!
Japan also making it through over Norway, the Norwegians certainly didn't make it easy but Japan are fantastic on the counter! |

Oh Lauren, Lauren James sent off for England for studding Michelle Alozie on the bottom.

USA deserved to go out, since they could never finish their attacks. The roster needs a major upgrade of youth (and seasoning from the youth on this roster) for the next one and we'll come back strong.
Rooting for Netherlands or Australia to do it at home. |

It's Japan's tournament to lose I think. They've been smoking everyone left right and centre.

Not sure I could've watched the Sweden - USA game live - I knew the result before watching the highlights and I was still on the edge of my seat! Fantastic for Sweden, the USA having lots of chances but not converting for the second match in a row (the third if we include the second half of the Netherlands game).
A shame to see South Africa go out, they had a decent number of chances and were good on the counter. The Netherlands just had the class to score the goals though in the end. |

The expected results today with France beating Morocco and Colombia beating Jamaica - so they'll play England in the next round. Jamaica are always great on the defence, but that was the first time they'd gone a goal down in the contest and it did seem like they struggled.
