07. +- ED SHEERAN (20-7-7-6-8-8-9-7) 2,427,000 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 349 PERFORMANCE IN 2018: PRESENT FOR 48 WEEKS OF THE YEAR PEAKING AT No 26 Trailing in in 3rd place in the 2012 listings to the two Adele’s, Ed Sheeran’s debut album proper saw him catapulted into the “A List”ers of pop stars, no album on this list or indeed this decade has spent more weeks in the top 100 (349) than “+” and it’s also just one of five albums to spend a whole 52 wks in the top 10 (consecutive or otherwise). It even moved up another 2 places on this list after selling another 100k in 2018. |

05. CHRISTMAS- MICHAEL BUBLE (7-4-4-3-5-4-5) 2,907,600 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 71 PERFORMANCE IN 2018: 9 WEEKS ON CHART PEAKING AT NO 5 Well isn’t this just turning into the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” of the album charts? When it charts you just know that the big day is almost here, It returned to the top 10 for a SEVENTH Christmas in 2018 making No 5, only 2015 remains as the year it missed the top flight, surely it can’t go any higher but it will (probably) sell it’s 3 millionth copy this Christmas. |

04. ÷- ED SHEERAN (5-4) 3,213,100 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 95 PERFORMANCE IN 2018: 52 WEEKS ON CHART PEAKING AT NO 1 Everyone knew this was going to be one of the big releases of 2017 but few foresaw just how big this would be. 19 weeks at No 1 in 7 stints (a chart record) it gave Sheeran the best selling single and album of the year, the biggest weekly sale for a male soloist ever (672,000) and saw him place all 16 album tracks in the top 20 the week of release including 9 in the top 10- the most top 10 hits from a studio album ever. It caused the OCC to re-write chart rules to ensure that the situation never replicated again so it is one of the few albums in chart history to cause such a re-write of the rules as a direct result of its performance. It spent a mighty 76 weeks in the top 10 from debut- a record this century and sold another ½ a million in 2018. |

Christmas the album I forgot of in the top ten then
I knew it was huge but it passed me by in terms of this list. Wonder if Divide will overtake Multiply this year. |

03. x- ED SHEERAN (8-2-3-3-3) 3,417,100 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 236 PERFORMANCE IN 2018: PRESENT AND CORRECT ALL YEAR PEAKING AT NO 10. And so what happened to Emeli Sande in 2012/13 happened to Sheeran in 14/15, the clear winner in sales terms in the first year and on course to become the best seller again in the second year until beaten at the last minute. “x” consolidated Sheeran’s place in pop and set the benchmark by which his future albums would be measured, it remains on the chart with all those 236 weeks having been accumulated from its debut back in 2014 with its first 74 weeks in the top 10- a record in the 2010’s until he broke it himself, “x” does however retain the title of most weeks in the top 5 (65 weeks) for the decade. |

02. 25- ADELE (3-2-2-2) 3,516,700 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 145 PERFORMANCE IN 2018: CHARTED FOR 44 WEEKS PEAKING AT NO 49 Naturally the top 2 belong to Adele, let’s have a quick recap of the feats of the album include the largest opening weekly sale of 800,000 which was followed by 4 weeks with over 350k registering 5 of the 21 biggest weekly sales of all time and becoming the fastest album to reach first the million mark (10 days) then the 2 million mark (29 days) and finally the 3 million mark (220 days). The final landmark coincided with her star turn at Glastonbury which saw the album return to No 1 and yet it’s still 1.5 million away from making it to the top here! |

01. 21- ADELE (1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1) 5,117,600 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 266 PERFORMANCE IN 2018: CHARTED FOR 2 WEEKS PEAKING AT NO 96 Still easily clear and untouchable, “21” is of course the best selling album of the decade so far and the fourth biggest album of all time selling its five millionth copy in 2016. It spent its first 72 weeks in the top 10 including 23 weeks at No 1 even stealing a cheeky week in the top 10 in 2016 after her Glastonbury stint. It launched her as an international superstar and sold 3.8 million in its first year on the charts becoming the best selling album in the UK for 2011 and then the second biggest seller of 2012- could anything brake her top 2 stranglehold by the end of the year? |

So that's it - all over for another decade! In December we'll get the "official" list (Probably) and then in 2020 obviously the top 100 of the year will also be the top 100 for the decade so maybe see you again in 2021!
Thanks for contributing! |
