QUOTE(Michael Bubré @ Dec 11 2022, 04:56 PM) *
I wouldn't call it unexpected at all, this has been a very highly anticipated album from arguably the biggest name in R&B and it's not like the singles didn't do well. (not to downplay her success obvz)

I understand but still it's surprising to me (in a good way) that she can do album bomb on streaming services ala Taylor, Bad Bunny, Drake...and as much as I agree that she is a household name in R'n'B world, we're still talking about a genre that doesn't set charts on fire to begin with (with the few exceptions here and there)!!!

But is Nobody Gets Me the single?
I thought Kill Bill was the focus track at the moment, was added to HH on Monday
so think that's the one they're pushing not Nobody Gets Me

which is weird cos Kill Bill is ok but Nobody Gets Me is the best thing she's ever released

nobody gets me was teased by sza a few days prior to the album coming out, kill bill has just taken off. NGM was implied as the next single, but KB is becoming v popular so they might make that the single instead

Predicted to open with 320k-350k in the US drama.gif that's insane, could even beat Renaissance's opening week. And that's on just streams and digital sales! Imagine she'd released physicals this week ohmy.gif

Listened to this album and aside from a few of the tracks, I didn't love it. Her voice kinda grates on me and sound more and more whiny the longer I hear it sad.gif

Aside from 'Kill Bill' & 'Nobody Gets Me' the other highlight for me was 'F2F'! I think that is mainly appreciated at the time for being completely different to everything else on the album. I think I'll probably prefer the tracks individually and not as I'm listening to it as an album (if that makes sense). I can listen to 1 or 2 of her songs on their own, but yeah when it's a full album... not for me, I guess.

I do appreciate how big she's become though! It's great to see pure r&b excel like this nowadays!

Don't think it works like that, part of why is doing so well on streaming is cos it's not available to buy physically

I wanna do another proper listenthrough of this before leaving ~full thoughts~ but I've given all the songs a listen (not all in order yet, was just catching up with Hot 100 new entries which included the entire album minus the first 3 singles which I had already heard lol) and I really enjoyed about half of the album on first impressions and several more tracks that I can see being growers (as all of the singles have been). Definitely can see the hype!

Away from the singles my other first listen faves iirc were 'Low', 'Blind' and 'Conceited'.

'F2F' was awful though ph34r.gif I somewhat appreciate the experimentation/variety but no more of that particular sound pls SZA x

The video for Kill Bill has been released !

A tease of Seek & Destroy at the end also I wonder if that’s going to be the next planned single after Kill Bill ?

There was a clip of 'Blind' at the end of the video for 'Shirt' so I don't think the outro clips necessarily mean anything.
