One to watch for the awards season. The trailer is SO uplifting it's crazy! I can only imagine the film being an absolute JOY to watch.

Was just about to post this heehee.gif Really hoping Jackman and Michelle emerge as awards contenders especially, the former looks PERFECT for this sort of role. The music sounds great too so I have really high hopes for this, love a good musical wub.gif

Well this looks incredible and that "This Is Me" song is sounding great.

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd November 2017, 04:53 PM

OUTSTANDING.

SO EPIC. It reminds me of 'Hands (Song For Orlando)'!

Posted by: Josh-tice League 13th November 2017, 11:19 PM

Hugh Jackman looks made for this role, excited to see him in this the most! The songs sound really good too, a shame that it seems like the awards hype for this has completely disappeared sad.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 20th December 2017, 07:17 PM

Really incredibly excited for this! The soundtrack is so good heart.gif Really hope it doesn't disappoint!

Really enjoyed this. The plot was a bit all over the place but it was so uplifting and the songs are great. The choreo for Rewrite the Stars was fantastic!

I do find Hugh Jackman’s singing voice a little annoying, when Zac Efron takes over vocals near the end of ‘The Greatest Show’ it sounds so much better. (That song sounds oddly like Halo in parts)

Welp. Not getting the best reviews.

Seems to be one of those that is splitting Critics and Audience reactions. This time it's the opposing way as opposed to Critics adoring it and Audience hating it etc..

Nothing but good things from people I know!

Just seen this and totally agree, the plot is far from the strongest point but it's certainly a really enjoyable watch due to the way it looks and the soundtrack, as well as the likeability of the cast and characters. Hugh Jackman just has such a charisma about him wub.gif

I watched the trailer for this and it thought it looked great, definitely tempted to go and see it... Seems like it could be the perfect film to lift those January blues!

Posted by: Connor. 30th December 2017, 09:04 PM

Just got out of seeing this. Agree that the plot was a bit all over the place but such a fantastic spectacle to watch! wub.gif

A lot of fun and so enjoyable! The music was great as well.

Was quite obvious though that the young Barnum and Rebecca Ferguson were not actually singing. Still fantastic though!

Posted by: sammy01 30th December 2017, 11:56 PM

I loved this, the big cast numbers were amazing, the dancing just brill. All the songs were killer and no filler too.

I think the only real plot issue is each element of the plot and story seem to run seperately and not be intertwined. What I mean is 1 plot point would play out then onto the next and thet never ran concurrently.

Posted by: UltraReputation 30th December 2017, 11:58 PM

I also absolutely loved this, in my top 3 of the year and I'm gonna have the soundtrack on repeat for ages! <3

Will do a full review later *.*

Despite mixed reviews - (which are a bit harsh given the fact it should have 3/5 from most critics for the positives alone), it seems like there’s a lot of buzz drumming up for the film. The soundtrack is #1 on iTunes and This is Us could be a legitimate hit!

Posted by: sammy01 31st December 2017, 04:58 AM

It would be great if word of mouth made this a hit and proved the critics wrong. It is so feel good and its public rating on rotten tomatoes and google are very high.

It is kind of sad reviewers sat watching it not just enjoying it for the 2 hours of escapism and positivity it is. Instead criticising it for historical inaccuracies and not being some deep plot when it isn't meant to be either. It is like reviewing a Slipknot album criticising it for not having tearful ballads when it obviously wasn't meant to have them.

Agreed - a lot of the time with musicals you don't have to expect it to be a huge drama with intertwining plot points. Obviously there are examples like Dreamgirls and Chicago which really nail the balance, but I feel like the critics are judging this as they would with say a period drama, taking this film a bit too seriously. As you said it's just a series of events that happened, they weren't linked together that well and it just jumped a bit which was my issue plot wise but going to see a musical I just wanted it to be a fun nice watch, which it 100% was and that's what the average movie goer is going to care about. It was a fun couple of hours that draws you into that world and puts on a damn good show (pun intended) about it, it doesn't have to be a frame by frame historically accurate re-enactment of Victorian era New York laugh.gif

Posted by: sammy01 31st December 2017, 11:11 AM

From what I gather it had a very good 2nd week in the US box office after an average first weekend. See how it does internationally, I feel like it might just keep growing as people like us chat about what an enjoyable 2 hours it was.

Also the soundtrack is set to go top 10 in the US and is in tbe top 2 on Amazon and itunes here. So hopefully more press and exposure if the songs take off.

Posted by: Sceryl_Streep 31st December 2017, 11:58 AM

This is fab! I normally don't care for musicals, but most of the songs are great and ones you could easily listen to outside the movie, which is quite rare. The story is cheesy and predictable and more than a little fanciful with the facts but it's a feelgood romp and Hugh is fab.

Posted by: sammy01 31st December 2017, 01:21 PM

I've never liked Zac before this and it actually made me warm to him too.

Posted by: Lukuzz 31st December 2017, 03:10 PM

Absolutely loved this. Great songs, loved the story. Hope the songs continue to climb the charts. Keala is a hell of a singer!

Posted by: Jonjo 31st December 2017, 05:30 PM

I also loved this. Story was a bit all over the place but it didn't matter as the core of it was there! The cast were great! Especially Zendaya! She really shines. Can't wait for her to bag her first leading position in a movie.

All the songs sound euphoric to me. There's a sense of empowerment to every one of them. 'Come Alive' grinds a LITTLE bit, but only coz it sounds a little TOO modern (literally the first bridge is Katy's 'Firework', no? heehee.gif) so it was kinda jarring seeing it haha.

But so much fun and such an absolute joy to watch!

This has had the smallest ever 2nd weekend drop in America for a film playing in +3,000 theatres cheer.gif

I've had the soundtrack on repeat since yesterday <3

I think think this is my top 5 songs from the film atm:
1) This Is Me (obviously kink.gif)
2) Rewrite The Stars
3) Come Alive
4) The Other Side
5) The Greatest Show

A Million Dreams paid DUST

This Is Me >>>>>>>>>>> obv tho

To be honest, every track on the soundtrack is great. 'Come Alive' was probably my least favourite originally but I liked it a lot more within the film.

Posted by: Jonjo 31st December 2017, 08:34 PM

Yeah it's def all killer no filler for me too.

But my fave is 'From Now On'. That "YES" that Hugh yells is such a MOMENT.

BUT 'This Is Me' is a ready made radio smash. wub.gif

My Top 5:
01. From Now On
02. This Is Me
03. Rewrite the Stars
04. The Greatest Showman
05. Never Enough

Posted by: Regina 31st December 2017, 08:48 PM

Zac Efron can't act his way out of a wet paper bag and he looks like a walking hemmeroid but guy can belt out a tune. Rewite The Stars is fab. From Now On is a MOMENT though. Might track the movie down, soundtrack alone makes it worth the effort.

These songs actually do things to me. They're genuinely "epic"! wub.gif

Posted by: sammy01 1st January 2018, 01:33 AM

No song felt shoe-horned in or filler. Each song also perfectly tells each moment of the story. The music and choregraphy really are incredible. Add to that Hugh being born to play his part and loving every minute and everyone pulling their weight and then some it really is a stellar movie.

I keep thinking the criticism is so unjust, reading articles that say things like it didn't delve into Barnum's backstory or true character annoy me so much. Or the more serious racial side of things that was only touched upon briefly should have bee explored more. Why? Why does it need to be gritty or have those depth, cant it just be fun and brilliant?

Posted by: Josh! 1st January 2018, 08:33 PM

Really had a lovely time watching this - there were some really nice scenes and I warmed to all of the characters massively too. As Jonjo says, Zendaya is so charismatic and watchable so I can't wait for her to properly transition to the big movie star she deserves to be. Keala Settle was my other big highlight from the film - THOSE VOCALS (especially in "This Is Me" which is completely amazing *.*) are incredible.

Wouldn't say it's one of my all-time favourite musicals but it was very enjoyable and all of the songs were very good too - I can imagine a stage show version of this being completely amazing!! wub.gif

Posted by: Mullo 2nd January 2018, 11:53 PM

Went to see this last night....wow, it was incredible.
Made me smile from start to finish. Wonderful movie

Posted by: Joe. 3rd January 2018, 08:54 AM

My top 5 are:

1) This is Me
2) A Million Dreams (I prefer the film version when the girl sings too though)
3) Re Write the Stars (Though I hate the opening line, it reminds me of a 1D song)
4) Never Enoigh
5) The Greatest Show (For the Zendaya, Keala and Zac parts)

Posted by: Mikee1981 12th January 2018, 11:37 AM

Saw this at the weekend just gone and loved it, from start to finish it had my attention even with little kids getting restless and going to toilet quite a few times, I hadn't realised it was a PG or I wouldn't of chosen a Sunday afternoon showing to go to lol.

Loved all the songs, had the soundtrack on repeat since 'This Is Me' was just magic

Posted by: Lukuzz 30th January 2018, 06:49 PM

Definitely buying this on dvd as soon as it is released. Also is a vinyl of the soundtrack coming out does anyone know ?

Posted by: Addyland 30th January 2018, 07:08 PM

Never Enough was such a moment when I watched the movie...so raw and so emotional sob.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 4th February 2018, 06:43 PM

This has topped the uk box office in its sixth week, increasing by 9%!! 😍😍 this hasn't even been top 2 before this weekend, that's incredible *.*

Posted by: Jonjo 4th February 2018, 09:45 PM

Thats amazing news. It also just proves what strong word of mouth can do for a film! The critics were a bit too harsh, but I'm so pleased to see them be proven wrong! wub.gif

Posted by: dandy* 5th February 2018, 06:02 PM

I haven’t seen it yet but I was really rooting for this to climb to #1 this week - sometimes it is okay to just be a barrel load of fun and everyone I know who has seen it has loved it.

Posted by: Styles Bilinski 5th February 2018, 07:58 PM

That's a really fantastic result and I'm so pleased to see it grab a week at #1. Is it some kind of record to make #1 for the first time in the sixth week? I haven't followed the box office long enough to be sure but I can't imagine it's an easy thing to pull off laugh.gif (being at #1 in week 6 at all sounds tough)

Might ask if my parents have seen it yet and whether they'd be interested when visiting this weekend, I wouldn't mind watching it a second time

Posted by: dandy* 8th February 2018, 07:22 PM

Fox are claiming it is the first time ever a film has made #1 in the sixth week so looks like you were right Jahq!

Posted by: Jonjo 12th February 2018, 08:25 PM

Someone has mashed 'Never Enough' up with 'Praying' by Kesha.

That is actually incredible! ;heart:

Posted by: Jonjo 13th March 2018, 05:23 PM

This received a 26% increase this week... this film is gonna be in cinemas forever. laugh.gif

Posted by: PaulM1983 13th March 2018, 08:08 PM

I've only just seen this. Oh god, it was fantastic and I didn't expect to like it.

Never Enough is genuinely one of the best songs I've ever seen featured in a movie. Hugh Jackman's look of pure awe, with the tears in his eyes, with his wife watching him, realising nothing will ever be enough from now on, absolutely broke my heart. That scene is astonishing.

Why that wasn't nominated for the Oscar I'll never know. This Is Me is fantastic, but Never Enough is the one. That vocal from Loren leaves me scalped every time I listen to it.

I'm listening to some of the songs for the Ultimate Movie Music competition and they are so good, much better than the ones they play on the chartshow. I really wanna see this film now!
