I see they allowed 18000 people in to watch Australia v India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday and another 18000 for the second match yesterday.

I'm surprised there hasn't been much talk of switching the Euros to a single country. England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy should all be capable of hosting a tournament at relatively short notice.

Villa vs Newcastle called off..

Villa will have 2 games in hand now, not sure when there are gaps in the schedule now. Must be pretty bad as I thought the Premier League would make clubs play with their U23s..

OTOH, the ban on spectators in Tier 3 areas appears to apply to “non-elite” leagues as well. That will mean that a lot of leagues below the National Leagues will struggle to resume next month.

Clubs in the Isthmian, Southern and Northern Premier Leagues have voted to continue with the suspension. That is likely to mean no resumption until January at best.

England's first one-day international against South Africa in Cape Town on Friday was postponed after one of the hosts' players tested positive for coronavirus.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) said a player tested positive on Thursday following the Twenty20 series.

The first ODI of the three-match series, due to begin at 11:00 GMT at Newlands, was postponed at about 10:00.

The rearranged games will now take place on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday.

Two unnamed members of the England tour party in South Africa have returned "unconfirmed positive tests" for coronavirus.

The tourists were tested on Saturday after two members of staff from the hotel where they are staying tested positive.

Sunday's rearranged opening one-day international in Paarl was called off 30 minutes before the 08:00 GMT start.

England players and staff are self-isolating in their hotel rooms.

The opening game of the three-match series on Friday was postponed after a South Africa player tested positive for coronavirus.

The South Africa squad were tested again

Sporting events in London will not have fans attending from Wednesday after the UK capital was moved into the highest tier of coronavirus restrictions.

Up to 2,000 had been allowed at outdoor arenas in England after the end of the second national lockdown on 2 December.

However, a rise in infections has resulted in the move into tier three.

West Ham's match against Crystal Palace on Wednesday will be behind closed doors, as will the midweek Premier League matches at Arsenal and Fulham.

European rugby's Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup have been temporarily suspended, organisers have confirmed.

It comes after the French government decreed its clubs should not play in the competitions this month.

As a result, European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) says it had "no choice" but to postpone all matches scheduled for the weekends of 16 and 23 January.

However, EPCR aims to resume and finish the tournaments "as soon as practicable".

Tournament chiefs hope two rounds of Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup pool games on the weekends of 15-17 and 22-24 can go ahead at a later date as authorities deal with the impact of a new strain of Covid-19.

There have been spectators at the Australian Open but Melbourne has now been placed into lockdown again so there will be no crowds tomorrow. Also, the people watching the Novak Djokovic match taking place right now have been told to leave so they will be home by midnight. They were not pleased about this and there was lots of booing. The match was suspended and has now resumed in an empty arena. It looks like it might go to a fifth set.

Up to 10,000 fans could be back in stadiums by mid-May as part of the government's plans to move England out of lockdown.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a four-part plan to lift the coronavirus lockdown.

Outdoor sports including football, golf and tennis will be allowed to resume in England from 29 March.

The plan to ease lockdown requires four tests on vaccines, infection rates and new coronavirus variants to be met.

"The turnstiles of our sports stadia will once again rotate," said Johnson.

Leisure centres, gyms and swimming pools can open from 12 April.

Venues such as gyms, tennis courts and golf courses have been closed across England since lockdown was announced on 4 January.

And full capacity stadia from June 21st, that's right in the middle of the Euros.

Part of me wonders whether the rumours about Euro 2021 coming to us might be true. UEFA could easily push back by a few days and they'd likely get full capacity for most games..

That's the dream. I've held on to my ticket but I'd gladly swap if I could get an England game somewhere. But even though the idea if full stadia, I still think that is slightly ambitious! But at least it gives confidence that the 21/22 season will be allowed to have crowds, so that's something to look forward to.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended after an increase in coronavirus cases among players.

A Sunrisers Hyderabad player tested positive before Tuesday's match against Mumbai Indians.

Monday's match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore was postponed after two KKR players tested positive.

In a statement, the IPL said it had "unanimously decided" to postpone the season after an emergency meeting.

"The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL," it said.
