I saw a goal from one of the quarter-final matches, absolute screamer!

Who was it by?

Posted by: CaptainMackxmas Dec 16 2019, 05:41 PM

I would think that Liverpool would be the favourites to win this.

Yeh Flamengo if we meet in the final will be difficult.

Liverpool being ripped apart here by the CONCAF champions Monterry with a make shift defence of Henderson, Gomez, Robertson and Milner im not surprised.

1-1 at the moment.

Is big Virgil injured?

He's ill!

I missed most of the game but no surprise to hear we were poor. I'll take that, hopefully as near as full strength as possible against Flamenco which will be a tough game.

Flamengo* 😉

Is it travel sickness or food? Hope he's ok for Saturday, shows how short of cover we have at centre back.

Not sure, could be flu or something else entirely! Just unfortunate we seem to be down 2x regular CBs and our 5th choice is injured as well! Just unlucky more than anything really.

Hopefully he will be back for the Premiership then.

Just watched the highlights, Liverpool certainly had lots of chances in that game but seemed very lucky to come out with a win! Will be a tough game for them against Flamengo.

Posted by: CaptainMackxmas Dec 20 2019, 03:02 PM

Should be a close game between Liverpool and Flamengo.

Henderson and Gomez were our centre backs lol. If it's like that this evening we aren't winning this☺️

Flamengo have some known players - Filipe Luiz (former Chelsea full back), Rafinha and Diego!

Great win for the reds - world champions has a nice ring to it!!

Tough tough game tho. How that was a free out to Flamengo for the pen decision il never know, was at least a free!

That was absolutely ridiculous. It used to be well established back in the 60s/70s/80s that the games were largely fixed by the refs as the South American teams would kick lumps out of the European ones and get away with it.. to give a penalty and then to not even give a foul after seeing the replay.. the mind boggles big time.

Anyway - lovely to win.

Yeh Lawro said on football focus this morning they didn't take the tournament too seriously back then but the south amaerican teams were dodgy but souness couldn't get anywhere near Zico to kick him in 1981 😂.

Pretty perfect weekend for you guys with City winning as well. Beat Leicester on Boxing Day and that first PL is yours. *sigh*

You're certainly a more well-oiled outfit now compared to the swashbuckling, free-scoring for fun monster a few years back. Just doing enough to win every match thrown at you, pretty much an evolved form of Mourinho's 05-06 Chelsea!

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 Dec 22 2019, 02:53 PM

All teams have to do that at some stage.

I would have rathered a draw yday I think. Still fear city more and the game on Boxing Day is gonna be huge!

Is it true that European teams really don't care about this championship?

We just play in a different way now, mainly through an element of control. I loved the heavy metal football but it left us too open against some of the lesser teams. Now we have a squad of about 18 players who can win at all costs through a multiple of ways. Just got to enjoy it while it lasts as inevitably we'll start to have to replace some of the players in the next 2-3 years.

Well, the media don't care about it too much.. I do think a lot of it comes down to the fact English teams take part once every 10 years and it's right before the biggest part of the football season in English football.

2/3 years? Prob at the end of this season!

I can't see it unless someone pushes for a move. I'm sure I read an article where the club expects our peak to be 2019-2020 and then 2020-2021, then to move in to a small transition period.

I get the impression we'll buy a few players in the summer and one of Mane/Salah could leave.

Hope it's Salah!
