Louis Tomlinson - Kill My Mind
September 5, 2019

Will he launch the album on the back of this is my question.
With 5 singles in, the album should get a release.

Posted by: SLlewellyn 2nd September 2019, 07:28 PM

Is there really any interest in a Louis album though... There's barely any interest in singles.

In any case, would be a shame for him to continue flopping; hopefully he can get into the charts with this one before some of the other 1D members return with new music.

X factor performance is likely for this which might help him chart.

Louis Tomlinson delivers '90s indie-pop nostalgia on new single Kill My Mind: First listen preview
Louis Tomlinson dramatically switches up his sound on his new single Kill My Mind.

QUOTE
ICYMI, Louis Tomlinson returns this week with his new single. It's called Kill My Mind and if you've been keeping an eye on his Twitter you'll notice he's rather excited about this one.

Louis has even made a playlist of songs that have influenced the track (see below). The list includes songs by Oasis, The Killers, The La's, James and Arctic Monkeys. Fans of his early pop-dance singles Just Hold On and Back To You may raise an eyebrow, but the playlist is pretty bang on in terms of direction.

Louis may have pushed restart on his music career, but Kill My Mind sounds like the sort of song that - forgetting trends, playlisting, positioning - could have been his debut single.

Sound-wise, there's something very turn-of-the-noughties-indie-pop about Kill My Mind. There's a noticeable Northern twang to his voice. The chorus is one of those guitars-and-drums breeze blasters in the vein of Feeder's Just The Way I'm Feeling or, for a modern reference, Sam Fender's Hypersonic Missiles.

Louis co-wrote Kill My Mind with Jamie Hartman, who also prodcued the track. Jamie's credits include co-writes on Rag'n'Bone Man's Human and Lewis Capaldi's Hold Me While You Wait, which also offers up a good indication of what to expect.

Most notably, on Kill My Mind Louis sounds at his most confident and comfortable yet. The song is out on September 5.

"90s indie pop" does NOT sound promising but I'm not going to judge until I hear it...

Surely can’t be any worse than Miss You x

90s indie pop sounds very promising! Looking forward to it smile.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 4th September 2019, 08:49 PM

This sounds fantastic!

Posted by: M4NG0 5th September 2019, 02:43 PM

It sounded really promising but ultimately it's a bit mediocre. Nice enough chorus but the whole thing sounds quite dated. Can't see it troubling the Top 40.

You take that back, Miss You was amazing!! And I prefer it to this

Posted by: JosephStyles 5th September 2019, 03:45 PM

I quite like it but it's definitely his weakest track so far. It just doesn't quite pop off like I feel like it's supposed to?

Posted by: pippa 5th September 2019, 05:34 PM

It is not shouting "hit" thats for sure.

I mean, it is a Louis Tomlinson track after all x

I really like this! Much better than the disappointing 'Two of Us'

Louis seems to be very confused as a solo artist? Every song has been wildly different to the last! It gives the impression that he's really struggling to find his identity. I assume that this new song is the closest to being representative of the type of music Louis actually likes, so maybe he'll settle with this vibe.

I don't particularly like it, hmm. The melody of the chorus is ok. The thing is, 90s indiepop has never really been my cup of tea and this is his take on that genre. Vocally he seems to be doing a Liam Gallagher impression, instead of just being himself, which is a little off putting to me. The only other positive thing I can say is that it's a better song than Miss You, but that's not saying much... :')

Just Hold On and Back to You were more interesting directions and more in line with my tastes. The former was obviously Steve Aoki's song so was probably never meant to represent a direction Louis would go in, but it's a pity he didn't explore Back to You's laid-back pop sound more (wow at these songs being 2-3 years ago already).

I really like Kill My Mind - but agreed in terms of output he seems a little all over the place; although possibly due to everything that's happened to him over the last couple of years?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th September 2019, 08:06 PM

Louis was on the Radio 1 Indie Show house party last night to promote the song! His choices to be played were:

The Libertines - Don't Look Back Into the Sun
Jamie T - If You Got The Money
Yungblud - 21st Century Liability
Reverend and the Makers - Heavyweight Champion Of The World
The Chemical Brothers - Block Robin Beats
Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This
The Vines - Get Free

He has fantastic taste!

Couple of interesting notes from the Indie Show on Thursday

-He said for the last couple of years he's been making music he thought he should make, rather than what he wanted to make.
-There will be '2 or 3' more singles before the album.

I don’t want to sound rude as I know he does have a few fans; but surely him & the label can see there is just no interest in his music. The same can be said for Liam also.

Posted by: JosephStyles 16th September 2019, 08:16 PM

I mean, the last time Liam released a song of his own, it was a pretty big hit (Familiar). Quite why it's taken so long to follow that up (or even Polaroid, that's approaching a year old) is baffling.

This song really isn't doing it for me still sad.gif I kinda cringe at it oops

Posted by: pippa 16th September 2019, 08:38 PM

They may just go with the album so he can have a solo album to his credentials but the interest will be minimal going on the success of the recent singles.
It is disappointing, as Louis started out strong with his solo music, Just Hold On is in my Top 3 Best solo songs from One Direction.

It's interesting how Louis won the public vote for 'Choice Song: Male Artist' for Two of Us at the Teen Choice Awards this year beating Lil Nas X, Khalid, Shawn Mendes, Travis Scott and Post Malone!

And last year he won 'Choice Male Artist' beating Drake, Niall Horan, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran! He has a strangely large fanbase but doesn't seem to connect with the public tongue.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 16th September 2019, 08:44 PM

I mean, that shouldn't be shocking considering One Direction are known for their huge fanbase! kink.gif The others all benefit too.

One of the worst songs of 2019 :/

Posted by: T-T 17th September 2019, 01:09 AM

Hi, Louis Tomlinson fan here. I've just been observing on this forum for a while and never felt the need to reply until now. I don't think people on here are very aware of fan dynamics. Louis by far has the biggest solo fanbase from not only 1D, but other well known artists too. It is not something that every member of one direction shares. Hence why he won against all the other members for a MTV EMA, with the most combined votes for any category - Louis tweeted about this himself. There is not a lack of demand for his music from a fan perspective. He trended no.1 on twitter and tumblr, with almost a million tweets on the former about TOU's release. Something that only kpop fandoms achieve nowadays. Here's comparison with Camila Cabello recently.

Without trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist, he has absolutely no label support from Sony. His songs haven't performed because in 4 years, he has done a maximum of 4 weeks promotion which has been limited to UK local radio stations since BTY. There is also major complications with his radio promotion team. Fans have resorted to sending gift packs to radio stations to help with promotion.

We're waiting for him to leave Sony. Anyone who is aware of his situation will know its none of his own doing. If you're interested, he just performed 4 new songs for his first solo headline show at CCME. Check them out.

Oh fgs you are aware that Louis and Liam's chart performance (bar 'Strip That Down') has been embarrassing considering their from 1D.

? there's no need to be rude. Being from a successful group doesn't guarantee smashes especially when the material isn't always 10/10. Get Low and Bedroom Floor were cute hits, For You was big, Familiar and Polaroid were solid hits too. Louis has had two big hits under his belt (and flops since then).

Posted by: pippa 24th September 2019, 07:01 PM

Many people expect when you come from a big band that hits are guaranteed which we have seen does not happen over and over again.
They have each secured bonifide hits to their credit.
The fanbase of a band does not always follow all the solo careers and in many cases the fan base each have a favourite member and they only follow the career of that member and not the others.
Looking at it from that view would see the fanbase divided by 5 and then you must include some that don't follow any member in a solo career.

I mean noone could predict Niall as being the most successful

That's because he isn't lol
