That was a great choice Wardy and GIAAS grew on me after a second listen.

07 BRER ◼ Hangman's Chair ‘Loner''

QUOTE
Why ‘Loner’?
I discovered Hangman's Chair via their feature on 'God Says' by Perturbator (from his fantastic album 'Lustful Sacraments' from last year, an all-killer no-filler selection of gloomy synth jams), was curious to hear how they sounded on their own so checked out 'Loner' after it popped up in my YouTube subscription feed and I pretty much immediately fell in love with it from the first few seconds, all about that goth / post-punk guitar tone which is pretty much a cheat code for me (the band seem to be primarily described as 'doom metal' but that guitar riff wouldn't sound out of place on a song by The Cure). Of course the rest of the song is also good stuff, it's all very melancholic and overdramatic particularly with the vocals in the verses but in the best way possible x

Votes

speaking of cheat codes, I am a simple song contest voter, you send a post-rock song, I give it high points. I was already really into this one from the understated first 4 minutes being a strange mix of slightly unnerving but also somehow relaxing (I've had a song with a pretty similar vibe as a song contest potential before), but then it kicks up a gear and never looks back, really makes every second of those 10 and a half minutes worth it with that spectacular build *.* also have to love how many different instruments are included from the standard guitars and drums to the strings and of course the massive organ outro. Definitely made for an epic closing track to this edition ~ (and needs to be played very loud xx).

This commentary from Brer is what I really enjoy about contests like this — I find the why almost as interesting as the songs themselves. I love reading what it is about a particular piece of music that people really love or resonate with.

BRUIT ≤ with the absolutely epic 'The Machine Is Burning (Live)' are the first act to receive twelve points twice — although, strangely, they haven't received any other points so far. MASTER BOOT RECORD beginning to potentially pull away from the very close pack?

Well at least the fans of BRUIT ≤ so far have been big fans, more of those soon please! MASTER BOOT RECORD is a great leader at this stage ofc x

Thanks Chez and Wardy for the few points so far - ngl when I found this song I thought it gave me potential big hit vibes so it is a liiiittle bit disappointing to be stranded right near the bottom on single figures so far oops but still early days I suppose!

‘Desaparecer' has the dubious honour of being at the bottom of the scoreboard (so far) but these things can change drastically very quickly...

Clearly people either loved or hated 'The Machine Is Burning (Live)' with votes of 12/12/10 — doesn't matter though, the love has propelled it into second place.

Dobbo leading is a very good thing to see right now.

Thanks for some unexpected points at the early stages, I’m glad Pool had some fans.

I gave commiserations in my PM to The Hotelier, KennyHoopla, TORRES and Gang Of Youths btw - I see that part got cut off when being edited to include the commentary!

Yass for a third medal position for BRUIT ≤ *.* love to see ASIWYFA flying up to the top 5 in the last couple of votes too!

09 BJORK ◼ Benjamin Francis Leftwhich 'Atlas Hands’

QUOTE
Why ‘Atlas Hands’?
I chose my entry, Benjamin Francis Leftwhich, cos he's a super talented singer-songwriter, great voice and crazy talented guitar skills.

Votes
12 KennyHoopla ‘How will I rest in peace’
10 Pool ‘Everything is not yet lost’
08 Gang of Youths ‘in the wake of your leave’
07 Mishkin Fitzgerald ‘Seraphin’
06 Torres ‘Thirstier’
05 BNR ‘Crumb’
04 And so I watch you from Afar - ‘7 billion people’
03 nicebeatzprod ‘Can't get you out of my’
02 Valtra ‘Will you be’
01 Hangman's chair ‘Loner’

I love how uplifting and anthemic ‘How will I rest in peace’ is, reminds me of Bloc Party both in melody and in lyrics too

Another set of votes — another different twelve-pointer. It seems like Bjork struggled a little with the heavier Nuggets choices this time, although I do think it's been a pretty strong group of songs.

10 J00prstar ◼ RAISE A SUILEN 'Invincible Fighter'

QUOTE
Why 'Invincible Fighter'?
I chose this partly because I was curious if anyone would guess it was me! I actually really enjoy this subgenre of asian anime theme-esque influenced music that I think of as gaming music, and every now and then I come across a new artist that does it really well! I believe this one is also an anime theme but I haven't seen the show.

I actually did find this one from the anime theme. It's a good anime in potential but I found it a bit creepy/pervy which put me off unfortunately sleep.gif
