It's time for lots of speculation about transfers to begin!

Posted by: Rooney May 28 2020, 11:29 AM

I am expecting there to be very little movement this summer.

Not least because it's likely between when this season and the next season starts there will be a 2-3 week break at most I suspect. I expect there will be the odd 'bigger' transfer, but I'd expect this transfer window to be fairly quiet and the winter one to be a little busier. Just think there is far too much uncertaintly right now for clubs to commit to bigger spending. Though I do think Werner will likely end up at Liverpool.

Paris St-Germain have signed striker Mauro Icardi for 60m euros (£54m) from Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old Argentina international joined PSG in September on a season-long loan with a buy-out option.

Matty Longstaff has been offered a five-year deal worth £30,000 per week by Serie A club Udinese.

Chelsea are in talks to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Shame, by all accounts he was Liverpool bound pre-Covid. Looks like we ain't going to be spend any money again this summer.. which is worrying to say the least.

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 4 2020, 11:09 PM

I know I'm gutted we had better win the league this season as we will def fall behind next season ffs. Werner is a great player too and with Chelsea signing the Ajax player Zieyeick as well they could be a force.

Chelsea will be frightening next season at this rate

Unlikely. They are still some way off Liverpool and Manchester City.

Seems like they are going after Werner and Chilwell, but I don't think that makes them title contenders. I can't see much player movement in the summer this year.

Posted by: Wall Jun 5 2020, 12:21 AM

Attacking wise, they are going to be incredibly scary.

If they manage chillwell, a new goalkeeper, CB and CH then I can see them being title contenders. I can see city struggling hard next season tbh

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 5 2020, 10:36 AM

If City are banned from Europe they'll be massive favourites for the Prem imo with that their only real target and fewer matches.

Posted by: Quarantilas Jun 5 2020, 10:41 AM

Interesting to see how Werner adapts to the Prem. If Chelsea could insist that he moves right now before the end of the Bundesliga season that would be perfect. Not that I am at all bias as a Gladbach fan wanting to get rid of Leipzig from our competition for third place and that sweet CL spot.

Werner, Abraham, Pulisic - all decent players but they are just not consistent enough to be title contenders yet imo.

City will be fine next season too. Themselves and Liverpool are so far ahead of the others right now. I suspect City will be in Europe next season and any ban is the following season.

This seriously broke my heart, Sane will be missed.

Birmingham City teenager Jude Bellingham has completed a move to German giants Borussia Dortmund which could eventually be worth over £30m.

The 17-year-old midfielder has signed a long-term deal with Dortmund.

Bellingham, who is the Blues' youngest player, will leave the Championship club after their final game of the season on Wednesday.

Overrated.

Posted by: Rooney Jul 20 2020, 07:40 PM

I can't say I have ever seen him play or know about all the hype, but I can't help but feel lots of people think he will be amazing because of Sancho.

Sounds like a lot of clubs were sniffing around him, but it's an awful lot of money in this climate. Although I guess Dortmund see it as a long term investment knowing if he is half decent some team in the Premier League will buy him at some point.

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 21 2020, 12:59 PM

He must have his head screwed on going to Dortmund the way the coach their players.

I thought he was headed for united but obv not, great player. Birminghams best player in the past 2 seasons as a 16/17 yo!

Would be a good signing for them. He's only 32 and while he has been plagued with injuries the past couple of seasons he can still do a job. I think he will do much better there than at Leicester which was where he was originally rumoured to go.

Biggest rumours at the moment are Havertz to Chelsea (which does look pretty nailed on) and Thiago to Liverpool. The Sancho to Man Utd links don't go away either..

Bournemouth have accepted a £41M bid from Manchester City for Nathan Ake. It feels like a bit of a strange signing for City to make but I guess for Bournemouth there will be plenty more departures to come.

He's a good player, think he will be played at left back. Concerns around his injuries, but I like him a lot as a player, I'd have definitely taken him at Liverpool due to the versatility.

Posted by: Dobbo Jul 30 2020, 12:41 PM

That's a good signing even at that price tag. Stones obviously isn't cutting the mustard at City so they need a dependable consistent partner for Laporte rather than chopping and changing their CBs all the time. Says a lot that Fernandinho is preferred to both Stones & Otamendi when all are available.

I think he's a good player as well but I would have thought that they would have gone for a big name signing as that is what they normally do rather than getting a player from a relegated club.

You can't look at it that way all the time, I mean look at Andy Robertson! Some players can be heavily improved by coaching. Ake was unlucky, he should have really gone back to Chelsea as he would walk in to their central defence, but I think at the time he wanted to be first choice. Aside from Ederson nobody is really first choice at City, but he will play a lot both at CB and LB. Pretty sure he can even play DM as well.

Sancho looks like he is on his way to Utd at £100m.

I will be gutted if this comes off as I like him a lot and he'd be perfect at Liverpool, but no way we could afford that for him unless he one of the front three left. The only thing that fills me with confidence is that he will go to Barcelona/Madrid in 3-4 years time if he performs anywhere near how he is capable.

I think he would be better in the short term at Man Utd as he easily becomes their star, at Liverpool he wouldn't get in to the first team right now but he certainly would in a couple of years time. Good player, I like him a lot but for £100m in Covid-19 times he's not worth it for Liverpool when we wouldn't splash the cash for Werner.

It does worry me slightly that everyone around us in the Premier League seem to be chancing it on their finances and going for big money signings, whilst by all accounts we're waiting to see what happens.

Man Utd would be a good environment for a young player with someone like Ole as the coach so I think he would be good even in the long term as well if he was to stay for many years. He would be a near ever present name on the team sheet.

Liverpool are still in very good shape for the new season even if they don't add to their squad but it's when your best players get to their early 30's when there could be a shift if you don't buy new players and most of your best players are not far off that at the moment.

Don't know if I was a young player and I had the choice of being coached between Ole and Klopp I know who I would choose tongue.gif

See I also don't get this shift and clamour to move all our best players on. Our team is at its peak and if you look around Europe you'd say all the best players across the leagues are late 20s - mid 30s (Vardy, Messi, Ronaldo, Immobile, KDB, Mane, Henderson, Immobile). I see the same attitude from Liverpool fans too just because we have not signed flavour of the month. Everyone wet their beds last summer when Spurs signed Le Celso and Ndombele and look how that turned out!

Posted by: Steve201 Aug 4 2020, 07:07 PM

We will def add to the defence and the full back positions imo!

Manchester City have completed the signing of Valencia winger Ferran Torres for £21m.

Alexis Sanchez has joined Inter Milan permanently from Manchester United on a 3 year deal. I think it's for the best for everyone involved, it seems like he's played better at Inter and we have been better off without him. It's a shame that he didn't bring the form from his Arsenal days with him at United.

Probably one of the worst transfers in modern football. It was a classic case of the fabled "marquee" signing.

Sounds like there's no transfer fee and Inter are still paying his wages. Crazy.

Posted by: Rooney Aug 14 2020, 04:06 PM

Is Sancho to Man Utd happening anymore? I honestly can't see it unless they stump up the asking price Dortmund want.

Willian has finally gone to Arsenal on a three-year deal.

Liverpool have signed Tsimikas as an extra left-back and the Thiago rumours just do not go away.

Most bizarre link I have seen so far.. Harry Winks to Manchester City laugh.gif

Na, usual Ed Woodward bottlejob probably. Dortmund have been the absolute scourges of our transfer business the past decade or so. Sold us some absolute dross, and stole some of our big targets so unsurprising to see them finding new ways to be problematic.

I don't get why Woodward just doesn't pay the money if you want him. It's obvious Dortmund have the upper hand in the negotiations. He did exactly the same thing with Maguire and Fernandes, wasted weeks upon weeks only to pay the money in the end. Unless you are actually prepared to walk away and move on to other targets I don't think these clubs will ever take Woodward's negotiation properly.

Posted by: Dobbo Aug 14 2020, 04:22 PM

Yeah it's pretty incompetent negotiating. Worst of all was the Fellaini one, let's just wait an extra few weeks to pay £12M more for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Former Burnley and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is set to join Tottenham on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old left Burnley when his contract expired on 30 June.

Hart, then England keeper, fell from favour after Pep Guardiola arrived at City in 2016, with loans to Torino and West Ham before a 2018 move to Burnley.

I think he's just accepted he will become 3rd choice keeper for a bit to fill a quota and he might get the odd game here and there. He will do that for 2-3 years before one last playing job at any level. Seems to be accepted for English goalkeepers now. Best of both worlds as they get a massive pay day and they pass on their knowledge to younger keepers in the set-up.

David Silva has joined La Liga side Real Sociedad for two seasons.

The Spaniard's 10-year spell at City came to an end after Saturday's Champions League defeat by Lyon.

Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Leicester and England left-back Ben Chilwell.

The 23-year-old has been a target for Blues boss Frank Lampard despite Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers saying in July that Chilwell was not for sale.

But after Leicester finished fifth last season, a Chelsea move would offer Chilwell Champions League football.

The Foxes academy product is working his way back from a foot injury that is not thought to be serious.

His current contract with Leicester runs until 2024.

Chelsea are also interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Kai Havertz.

Posted by: Rooney Aug 22 2020, 02:31 PM

Chilwell is probably better than Emerson and Alonso (in a back 4). But I also find him really overrated as well. But for an English left back I suppose that is the going price, it was meant to be £80m pre-Covid.

Jeff Hendrick has joined Newcastle United on a four-year deal after leaving Burnley.

The 28-year-old, who has 54 caps for his country, left the Clarets in June and was a free agent.

He was signed by Burnley manager Sean Dyche for a then club-record fee of £10.5m in 2016 but was unable to agree a new contract.

Nah, it will have been 2022 or 2023. Ensures he stays for another season at least, possibly two on increased terms and if a bigger club comes in for him (which I honestly can't see right now) Leicester have protected their asset.

Posted by: Dobbo Aug 25 2020, 11:08 AM

Looks highly likely he is on the move, I suspect he will end up at City.

I'm still shocked. Barca literally paid for his medicine for him to even be a footballer let alone go on to become one of the est ever. I thought that alone would be goodwill enough for him to never leave, never mind all the glory they've experienced together. Seems very kneejerk based on one bad season but I imagine there must be far more to it than what we know.

Didn't he & Pep fall out? Thought that would be the turn-off with City never mind their European failures. I wonder if PSG are more likely, certainly one of the only teams who could even afford him and they've set a precedent with Neymar...

Half of me thinks it's a strategic move to force the current President out, but it also seems from reading between the lines that he is very close with Suarez and now Suarez has been shown the door, Messi is trying to engineer a move away.

The thing is even if he is allowed to leave on a free, he's on about £1m Euros per week. I think Italy might be appealing as their tax is more favourable. I like him a lot and he would be a fantastic addition to any big team but it's the ultimate knee jerk signing. Man City would literally be signing him for the sake of it. They already smash teams 5-6 nil regularly and while Messi is a great player he doesn't track back anymore.

There is no chance we sell Mane without a replacement laugh.gif I could see us selling one of the front three next summer but not before. Plus the source of the rumours are terrible.

Van de Beek is a good signing for Man Utd, I like him a lot. Can't see how he plays that much unless Pogba goes next summer, but still a good signing. Not that right sided forward or defensive midfielder they need though..

I think he is OK, quite raw. He certainly has a lot of the attributes we need for our wide forwards. We have been linked with him, but I can't see it myself. I think it is more likely we wait a season and go for somebody else.

It's pretty clear he wanted to leave but couldn't get out of his contract. I know there will loads of shit said against him, but I applaud him for calling the President out. It puts the current President in an awkward situation now.

He was immense for them a couple of seasons ago. The finance rules have been laxed this year, otherwise I doubt they would have spent anything like they are. I think I read an article they made a loss of £110m in the last financial year. obviously they are not in Europe so not bound by FFP, but they must have European ambitions, so maybe they're just doing their big spending? I think previously they've always had a big 'saleable' asset (Lukaku, Rodwell, Barkley). But probably Richarlison aside they don't have anyone who teams would be looking at to balance their books.

Hipster signing of the summer!

Anyway, I am totally delighted with this signing. He solves the biggest immediate problem we came up against post Watford defeat, which was teams worked out how to cut the supply of our full-backs. Thiago now means we can be a threat through the middle too.

Some great signings on paper at least in the Premier League this summer! Obviously I want to see them fail, but I am looking forward to seeing the likes of Werner, Havertz, Van de Beek, Thiago in the Premier League. I know we have seen the former two already!

The fee is high but it makes a lot of sense. His wages comparatively are small compared to Werner and we’re paying the fee over the length of his contract. Someone put his numbers up and they’re very similar to Mane at Southampton.. I’ve seen Jota a few times and on his day he can be unplayable, and on his day he can be absolutely awful. I guess Klopp thinks he can coach him to the next level.

Posted by: Steve201 Sep 19 2020, 11:31 AM

It’s a fairly typical Liverpool signing in that as you say Roon You coulda said exactly the same about Mane in 2016 and now look, there’s luck involved but it’s possible. Thiago whereas is a non-typical Liverpool signing in that he’s ready made and in his prime and wants to join because of Kloop and we are one of the best teams at the minute.

If he’s as good off the pitch as Zlatan was then it’s a priceless gift for Tony, Rashy & Mason. If he’s not then it’s literally just Woodward trying to go “loooooooook I got you a STAR” in the hopes that we don’t see that he got utterly outmanoeuvred and outclassed by Dortmund simply saying “our price is 120m€ you pay it or we keep Sancho. The choice is yours” over and over for the entire summer.

Everyone knows I hate Man Utd, but Cavani is an absolutely terrible signing. He is nowhere near Zlatan's levels both as a game changer or as an athlete.

He was PSG's 6th best attacker last season, so the logic from Woodward is bizzarre. I mean, he's not a horrible player and he will score goals, but he has a horrible injry record and has not played for 6 months. But whose he gonna replace in the front 3 when they score goals? I don't think it addresses any of the shortcomings. Totally bizzare signing out of absolutely nowhere. really does reek of a short term PR move.

Posted by: Quarantilas Oct 4 2020, 03:36 PM

I remain unconvinced by him. If he gives us some insider info to grind PSG into dust and make Neymar and Di Maria cry again I will buy a shirt with his name on the back of it.

Looks like Telles is coming after all. Will see if Woodward gets Sancho but I’m extremely doubtful. Consequences of not having football people run the club and owners that see the club as their personal ATM
