There's a surprise release from a "big male" artist tomorrow and reports are indicating that it's Charlie Puth, with what Scott Mills says is the best thing he's done so far! I loved his album way more than I expected to so I'm really excited for what might be coming.

I'm quite excited for this. His album was "ok" for the most part, just very corny. 'One Call Away' is still my fave from him, but 'We Don't Talk Anymore' is right up there with 'See You Again' too. (Everyone else can have 'Marvin Gaye' - I'm not claiming that one x)
EDIT: I think I underestimated his star power. All his big hits (so not including 'Dangerously' - 45m) have over 400m views on Youtube! I had no idea he was THAT big tbh. The video to 'We Don't Talk Anymore' is really close to crossing a billion views! |

Charlie's quite quietly notched up some good numbers over his first era tbh! Each single outpeaked the previous one in the US, and all were good-sized hits in the UK also, alongside a gold-selling album. More than I ever expected for him really!

The singles from his debut didn't particularly grab me, although I did find the album a very pleasant listen, but I still find myself looking forward to what his second album will have to offer. I've been watching clips of him where he's been talking about music and his influences and it's really great to see someone be so invested and passionate about not only their own music but music in general.

From AllAccess:
QUOTE Last night (4/19), CHARLIE PUTH premiered his new single in an immersive music exhibit on MELROSE AVENUE in LOS ANGELES called "THE ATTENTION ROOM." PUTH’s new single “Attention” - the first release from his forthcoming sophomore album and follow-up to his RIAA Platinum certified debut "NINE TRACK MIND," will arrive worldwide at all online retailers tonight at 11p (EST). The Attention Room features an LED infinity tunnel - soundtracked to PUTH’s new single “Attention” - with a visual experience architected around the concept of “receiving attention.” More specifically, the visualization within the tunnel replicates the brain’s reaction to receiving attention. From Idolator: QUOTE Charlie Puth is back! The singer/songwriter, who established himself as one of pop’s hottest new talents with debut LP Nine Track Mind, launched the first single from his sophomore set in “an immersive music exhibit” called The Attention Room. What does that mean exactly? Well, Artist Partner Group (APG) and Atlantic Records, in partnership with Spotify, have created a space that replicates the brain’s reaction to receiving attention. It achieves this via an LED infinity tunnel and Charlie’s very good new banger, “Attention.” If you happen to be in Los Angeles, you can check it out for yourself. The Attention Room, which is located at 8017 Melrose Ave, will be open to the public until April 30. (The hours of operation are 7pm – 11pm on weekdays and 1pm – 11pm on the weekend). As for the single? It’s a stone cold smash. Co-written by Charlie & J Kash, “Attention” completely rebrands the singer. Gone are the doo-wop bops and loved-up ballads. This is a dancefloor-friendly anthem with an edge. The song drops at 11pm ET tonight. Now that description sounds REALLY exciting |

Excited by the description! Hope this era does a good job of showing a different side to him because as much as I enjoyed his first album, I've found him very one sided so far x |

He's very much what I would describe as "beige", although I would like to properly enjoy something of his.

So far I've only liked "We Don't Talk Anymore" of his material, but that description sounds promising!! Pretty much exactly what I was going to say Well Marvin Gaye was ok for a bit but quickly got cringe and boring. --------- His voice is a bit bland so I think he needs a banger with exciting production to elevate his material a bit more. |

With people saying that "a big male artist is gonna surprise release" or whatever, makes me think that he's actually gonna be pretty big with this next era. It's gonna be on a similar circumstance to The Weeknd just before he released 'Starboy' I think. (Except not quite that high obviously)

I really hope his work with Alicia Keys makes the album when it gets released, that would be something to hear

Hmm.. not sure what I think of it. I think I like it, but it's not as different to a couple of his stuff from the debut, to make me think it's a life changing new sound for him... it could grow on me I spose.

Oh this is actually good. Loving the chill production and bass guitar prominence and his voice works for the song too.
