So it will be interesting to see the free matches and what theyre gonna be.
I wonder if Sky digital will continue to block soccer thats live on rte from next seaon or make it available just to annoy BT Sport. It always annoyed me when they did this as rtes coverage was second to none - tuesday and wednyts live with a good critical panel analysing, it was esp annoying when ireland games are blocked even on sunday evening their highlights of the ireland england game got blocked even though it was live on itv! You didn't miss much in the Ireland v England game. |

Eurosport have won the European television rights to the Olympic Games in a £922m deal.
This deal will be effective for most of Europe in 2018, and in the UK and France in 2022. There is a chance that the BBC will not broadcast the Games from 2022 with this deal however as Eurosport doesn't have a free-to-air channel in the UK then it would have to acquire one or license the coverage to another broadcaster either BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5. However The Olympics are still in Ofcom's Category A event meaning that it must provide live coverage on a free-to-air channel. |

BBC and ITV will be sharing the rights to broadcast the Six Nations from next year for the next six years. Wales, Scotland and France home matches will be on the BBC and ITV will be showing the England, Ireland and Italy home agmes. Another of BBC's crown jewels that has been lost or been forced to share. But at least Sky Sports or BT Sport have not gained all of the rights to show the Six Nations. At least all of the Six Nations will remain on free-to-air television.

If you going to be wanting to watch The Open today then you'll have to wait until 1:45pm until after Homes Under The Hammer, Heir Hunters and Bargain Hunt has finished. It's no wonder BBC are losing the rights to these prestigious sporting events!

BBC will be showing extended highlights of The Open a year early meaning that Sky Sports will show The Open live next year.
A statement from BBC's director of sport, Barbara Slater: QUOTE The BBC is announcing today that the R&A has agreed with our proposal to amend the broadcast arrangements for The Open Championship one year earlier than planned. From 2016 rather than 2017, the BBC’s coverage of The Open will take the form of extended peak time TV highlights, live radio and enhanced digital rights. So why has the BBC taken this step and what does it mean for golf fans? Much has been written and spoken recently about the BBC’s finances and its offering to licence fee payers. The funding agreement announced in the Chancellor’s July budget and the overview of the BBC’s future finances outlined in the Charter Review proposals make it clear that the BBC is faced with some challenging financial savings targets. Sport on the BBC is not immune to those pressures and they are compounded by the highly inflationary nature of the rights market. Now, more than ever, it is critical that the BBC targets its resources to ensure maximum choice and value for money for licence fee payers. We have already made long term commitments to a wide range of major sporting events, including the Wimbledon Championships to 2020, the next two Football World Cups, Match of the Day to 2019, 6 Nations to 2021 and the next three Olympic Games. So following the announcement that Sky had been awarded the live TV rights to The Open and in light of financial developments since, the choice to amend the current contract from next year was a pragmatic one. We know that many fans are unhappy with the loss of rights and in an ideal world the BBC would still be the home of live coverage of The Open. A comprehensive two-hour highlights TV programme - a format which has already proven successful during the Ryder Cup - in a prime-time slot over four days will allow us to continue to bring all the best action and key moments from The Open to free-to-air viewers. With the live radio coverage unaffected and scope to provide something fresh and new on our mobile services, we are confident that our overall audience offering will remain a compelling one. The BBC and The R&A have operated a successful partnership for more than 60 years and that is set to continue well into the next decade as we bring the Open Golf Championship to the widest possible audience. |

ITV Sport will be the new broadcaster for terrestrial horse racing as they have won the rights to show the big races such as Grand National, Cheltenham Festival, The Derby which will be shown on ITV and the other meetings will be on ITV4.
