Geri names her baby Bluebell Madonna Ewwwwwwwww!

"As I walked around the park in the last few weeks of pregnancy, I seemed to see bluebells everywhere," said Halliwell"

"There's a good reason I picked Madonna as a middle name, too. As she came out of my tummy, Bluebell had both arms wide in the air as if announcing, 'Hi, I'm here.'

"She was screaming her head off, as though she was shouting, 'Hello Wembley!'.

"No one else has that name, apart from the Virgin Madonna and the singer, who I love."

Posted by: prettyinpink May 24 2006, 03:23 PM

thought I had read this earlier, and as I posted - Bluebell Haliwell is a bit of a mouthful

Posted by: NatalieMT May 24 2006, 03:54 PM

It's a very odd name, not sure if I like it or not... blink.gif

Stange.... whenever I walk the streets of London, I see far more piles of dog $h!te than I do bluebells....

Another ridiculous 'celeb baby' name...... dry.gif

What the fukk is wrong with these people...? It's as if they actually want their kids to go into therapy.....

Dear lord rotf.gif rotf.gif the reasons WHY she chose that name are just ridiculous mellow.gif

She is so desperate for fame she will give a ridiculous name to her baby just to cause small news on a tabloid. By the way, vote for a Geri forum!

What a sad lot you are. The pictures of her with the baby in OK mag are beautiful and you can see that she absolutely adores this baby and I can tell you that this means a hell of a lot more to her than the sad thoughts that you have regarding her and pop music. Maybe when you are grown up you will understand.

Then why did she give her such a stupid name, which is bound to be the cause of much ridicule for her daughter throughout her life? huh.gif

This is what she says to the Daily record and it is so so true -

She may absolutely adore her baby, but, come on, say the name out loud a few times, I mean, really think about it (at least think about it a bit more than Geri obviously did) - 'Bluebell Halliwell', 'Bluebell Halliwell', 'Bluebell Halliwell'........

And then think about the utter ridiculing and stick she's gonna get from the kids at school.....

Still, it's not as if she'll be alone in the psychiatrist's waiting room - Apple and Moses Martin and Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham will keep her company......

Romeo is a ridiculous name? I didn´t know, thought it was pretty normal, anyway, I don´t live in UK.

However, the humiliation of a stupid name can be compensated for being a song of a multi million popstar.

Posted by: thisispop Sep 19 2006, 06:16 PM

Maybe Geri & Mel C might get together with three other females (Mel B, Victoria Beckham & Emma Bunton) and release a Greatest Hits instead. dry.gif

Posted by: Lukuzz Sep 19 2006, 06:17 PM

Geri and Mel C have both have loadsa hits, i would buy both.

ye on the release schedule it says geri has a gh's, doesnt mention melk c, but on her website she says she will be releasing something in uk,and it says mel b,victoria n emma bringin new albums out.

looks like a spice attack biggrin.gif

Posted by: Scotty. Sep 19 2006, 06:18 PM

I don't see what gives Geri the right to call it a Greatest Hits considering it will just be a collection of truely vile pop music at it's worst.

Posted by: Josh Sep 19 2006, 06:19 PM

Oh crist rotf.gif

Posted by: :Ryan: Sep 19 2006, 06:20 PM

Geri was fab, leave her scotty! kink.gif

She was best out of the Spice Girls, but a SG Cd would suit them all better i think biggrin.gif

Posted by: Aly Sep 19 2006, 06:22 PM

I suppose she's had enough hit singles to pass off a Greatest Hits. I've seen worse timings for a GH aka T.A.T.U.

Posted by: Mark Sep 19 2006, 07:06 PM

I think Geri's Greatest Hits will do better than Passion did.

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Sep 19 2006, 07:10 PM

i cannot see a greatest hits by either geri or mel c doing that well in the uk,however although i cant stand geri's music i love mel c's solo stuff and would love a greatest hits to see very well for her

Posted by: Andrewy Sep 19 2006, 11:02 PM

I thought there were rumours that Geri was gonna release all of her singles as a GH album with a few Spice tracks??

Dunno if they were Spice singles or unreleased tracks.

I liked a lot of Geri's early solo stuff, so I'd probably get it .. but I'd prefer a Spice Greatest Hits...

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Sep 19 2006, 11:23 PM

if rumours are correct its looking like a greatest hits by spice girls,then mel c and geri,its a big treat for the hardcore spice girls fans

Posted by: burzacott Sep 21 2006, 11:39 AM

She cant release a GH yet it would only be about 10 songs long for gods sake !!!

Posted by: russt68 Sep 21 2006, 01:06 PM

surely it's illegal to sell blank discs like this for such extortionate prices? tongue.gif

Posted by: MConnor Sep 21 2006, 02:38 PM

Mel C is releasing a 4th album next year.

Posted by: Rob Sep 21 2006, 11:14 PM

It was rumoured around the time before she announced her pregnancy that (the frankly fab wub.gif) Love Never Loved Me was to be coupled with an Abba cover as a double-A to launch the album, but then she announced her pregnancy sad.gif

Totally.... sleep.gif

Seems like any talentless waste of space can generate a "Greatest Hits" album these days.... Anyone remember the time when an artist actually had to do something to merit a Greatest Hits album???

Posted by: Ozmead Sep 22 2006, 08:46 AM

I must admit, I really really liked "love never loved me" So should have been her second single. Despite her lack of star appeal and good voice, even good looks - this was a brill song

Posted by: Graham Sep 22 2006, 08:55 AM

Geri's music is horrible. I mean UGH I like camp cheesy stuff but the stuff she churned out was ultimate VOMIT.

Melanie C would be the only one that would actually have a decent GH collection and would probably do OKish with it as well - she has had a load of great hits.

As for the SG GH I'm not holding out any hope - it'd make my year if they came back instead of being stuck with Take That and All Saints.

You have to wonder what they were thinking when they released Desire over it sick2.gif

Posted by: Luciano Sep 22 2006, 03:10 PM

This shouldn't be happening. A Spice Girls greatest hits, on the other hand, should be happening.

Posted by: Madonnas Secret Lover Mar 3 2007, 11:47 PM

There are rumours that the Ex Ginger, Ex Spice Girl is releasing a greatest hits album! The album may/will include hits from "Scizophonic" "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" and "Passion". If this is true would change the come back of the Spice Girls mellow.gif

If it's true I hope these tracks make it

Look at Me, Lift Me Up, Bag It Up, Scream If You Wanna Go Faster and Ride It. And also a few B-Sides she did including Perhaps, Perhaps and G-A-Y

Posted by: Luciano Mar 4 2007, 03:59 AM

Hmmm... I doubt this is true, does she even have enough hits for this??

The ones I can name/remember:

1. Look At Me
2. Mi Chico Latino
3. Lift Me Up
4. Bag It Up
5. It's Raining Men
6. Scream If You Wanna Go Faster
7. Calling
8. Ride It
9. Desire (but this one flopped, so it wouldn't be one of her "greatest" hits)

Posted by: Graham Mar 4 2007, 04:36 AM

It's been going around for quite some time.
But considering I think only Melanie C has enough his to warrant a 'Best Of' compilation. Geri has about 9? So most of it would probably be filler...

Posted by: Parental Advisory Mar 4 2007, 08:50 AM

I loved that last album of Geri

Posted by: JON Mar 4 2007, 04:04 PM

I love Geri and all her music including The Spice Girls stuff however this rumour has been around for two years now and has never happened. To be honest as much as I would love it to be true, I doubt at least for the next few years it will happen however, if it did then I would like and would expect it to have the following tracklist.

1. Look At Me
2. Mi Chico Latino
3. Lift Me Up
4. Bag It Up
5. Walkaway
6. It's Raining Men
7. Scream If You Wanna Go Faster
8. Calling
9. Shake Your Bootie Cutie
10. Ride It
11. Desire
12. Love Never Loved Me
13. Feel The Fear
14. Let Me Love You More
15. Loving Me Back To Life

'Walkaway' was from her debut solo album 'Schizophonic' and whilst it was never released, it would have made a great fifth and final single released from the album. It is a really nice, slushy ballad which her vocals on are superb. I feel it would have been another top 10 hit from her. Probably number 9.

'Shake Your Bootie Cutie' was from her second solo album 'Scream If You Wanna Go Faster' and whilst it isn't a fantastic vocal performance, it is a great, fun, catchy anthem which in my opinion could have been a fourth single from the album however I understand why it was not released as it is a potentially love it or hate it song which may flopped however its a great song.

'Love Never Loved Me', 'Feel The Fear', 'Let Me Love You More' and 'Loving Me Back To Life' are all from her third solo album 'Passion' and are all great songs. 'Love Never Loved Me' was for months scheduled to be a release and should probably have been the second single released from the album. Practically every single person and source to have reviewed the album have said that it should have been a single and would almost certainly have got at least top 5. It is such a great, electro pop, summer dance anthem which would have been a huge hit all over Europe. 'Feel The Fear' was actually scheduled to be the 'Children In Need' song for 2004 and would have been a great choice. It is a lovely, smooth ballad which really should not have lost out at doing 'Children In Need' to Girls Aloud's 'Stand By You' cover. I actually reckon that if it had been the CIN single it would have gone top 5 and even though it wasn't, it could also have still been a single and given her another decent sized hit. 'Let Me Love You More' is yet another single which should have been released. In my opinion this could have been a double A side single along with 'Desire'. Whilst 'Desire' is a good song, 'Let Me Love You More' has much better vocals and is a better and more mature song. Whilst 'Loving Me Back To Life' was maybe never really single material, it is still another good song which is in my opinion would be a very appropiate choice to finish off her 'Greatest Hits' album.

According to The Sun, Geri Halliwell is doing a pilot Chat Show for ITV1, and if succesful could be made into a series.

ITV1 are desperate to have a daytime chat show that doesnt bomb like The Sharon Osbourne Show or Today with Des and Mel.

It's From Passion. Not it to be mixed up with "Let Me Love You" on Scizophonic

If anything else should have been released from Passion, it's 'Love Never Loved Me'.

This is one of my fav songs from her wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: Aly May 21 2007, 07:28 PM

I've done some research...

"Passion was in the making for four years. Released on June 6, 2005, the album met a lukewarm reception. Originally planned for release after the second single in early 2005 ("Love Never Loved Me", continuing the trend of dance tracks), Virgin sent Geri to Sweden to record new tracks. The results were "Desire" and "Surrender Your Groove", which knocked "100% Pure Love" and "Set Me Off" from the final cut. "Passion" debuted at number forty-one, selling 5,432 copies in its first week and 15,000 in total in the UK. The album also debuted at number thirty-nine in Brazil, where it sold 3,000 copies. Worldwide sales or shipments are unknown."

Posted by: Jark May 21 2007, 09:56 PM

Interesting...20k sales worldwide is pretty lame laugh.gif

Posted by: slowdown73 May 23 2007, 11:21 AM

Love never loved me should have been a single instead of desire. Her album might have done alot better then. A bad decision by the record company there.

Posted by: Simon. May 27 2007, 11:30 PM

Love Never Loved Me was fantastic wub.gif i really loved Loving Me Back To Life

Posted by: geriboy Jun 7 2007, 03:12 PM

Desire is what killed Passion I really really believe that.
Let Me Love You More is awesome, love the opening music wub.gif
Passion's best song for me though was Loving Me Back To Life - I always had visions of her singing it on TOTP with a huge xmas tree behind her and then fake snow falling when she sings the big ending cry.gif

Agreed !
It's not even that it's a bad song or anything .It's not.
She sounds amazing on it.For me,it just wasn't immediate.Not a catchy enough follow up to 'Ride It'. I found that with 'Desire' - I had to listen to it like a million times before I could remember how it goes.I liked it ,I still do.It's a shame it didn't chart a lil bit higher.Oh well.

Geri Halliwell has broken up with her billionaire boyfriend Evgeny Lebedev, say reports.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Halliwell didn't have time for Lebedev with the Spice Girls world tour about to start.

A source commented: "Evgeny is back in Russia. He is gutted. He fell for Geri and wanted something serious."

The pair had been dating for four months and were first spotted together at a summer party at London's Serpentine Gallery.

Former Spice Girl stuck in lift

Halliwell was on her way to sign copies of her new children's book

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in a shopping centre lift.

Ms Halliwell, 35, was on her way to sign copies of her new children's book, Ugenia Lavender, when the elevator at Lakeside in Essex broke down.

The singer and four other people became trapped when it broke down on the way to the first floor.

Sub officer Dan Hyatt said crews were surprised to get the lift open and find Ms Halliwell trapped inside.

He said that when they got there "we were all surprised to discover that one of the people trapped was Geri Halliwell".

"The lift had become stuck between floors and a team of engineers was working on it but didn't seem to be having any luck," he said.

"We used a manual crank in the lift's service room to raise it and get the doors open.

"Geri thanked us all for our help and was a really nice lady. There were loads of fans waiting for her so we were glad that we were able to get her out quickly so she could go and meet them."

Geri Halliwell appeared on 'This Morning' this morning (kink.gif) to 'reveal' the Spice Girls' plans:

Posted by: Lukuzz Sep 22 2009, 05:59 PM

Hmm i think it would be good if they did one last huge concert that was televised and put onto DVD, but even as a huge fan I wouldn't want them back for a 2nd reunion.

I honestly can't see Victoria Beckham wanting to be a part of this. And I applaud her for that. I think she'd give her blessing to the other four ... but I just can't see her wanting to take part in it. And although Vicky is the most vocally challenged ... she is the one that everyone wants to see. There's something about Geri Halliwell that I find terribly insincere ... it was her who broke up the 'girly friends' thing in the first place. If I'm honest ... I quite like stuff that Mel C has done solo since ... and I want to listen to her more in the future - for me ... Mel C is the only one for whom the music is the most important thing ... I truly don't think she is motivated by pound signs the way Geri Halliwell is. I also like Mel B - but in a TV Presenter sort of way ... she's hilarious. In fact - I like Emma B too. For me ... the weakest link in the chain seems to be the one who wants the comeback most ... Geri 'Me, Me, Me' Halliwell.

Geri is probably just building up press interest in herself, and i agree with Norma about Geri she is very me me me, and likewise i think Mel c is very different in every way i have always felt mel c is the most genuine of all the girls and isnt as motivated by money as the rest of them, i think mel c will be just happy to keep making music whether its comercially successfull or not.

Posted by: Lukuzz Sep 23 2009, 04:59 PM

I do love Geri but I agree with what yous are saying.

I would just like a dvd from their last tour, that would do me, I don't want another flopish comeback tbh, I mean 'Headlines' completley wrecked their amazing chart run

The Halliwell heart.gif

Posted by: geriboy Sep 26 2009, 10:06 PM

ohmy.gif Geri is my Idol, but i agree, the times I've seen her at signings it's very hit and miss as to whether she'll bother with you - like she is desperate to be nice when she wants something, once she's got it or things aren't going her way she just clams up and seems so cold (i got that feeling with her on the concerts so started feeling Emma love for a while) biggrin.gif

I don't want a reunion - the first did for me exactly what they said it should be - a final goodbye and thank you to the fans. I went, laughed, cried, shouted, screamed and everything knowing it was my last time to see them. I've closed the book, everything's wrapped up for me now, a dvd would be nice, but honestly, i don't want this rearing it's head every 3/4 years...

I just want another Geri album!!!!!! lol

Posted by: d22ghj Sep 27 2009, 06:06 PM

Mel B also confirmed they were planning something on twitter and Emma said the same thing outside Heart FM today to a fan. And I seriously doubt they would do anything without Victoria as it wouldn't be a Spice Girls project but 4 ex Spice Girls coming together for something.

Posted by: This Time Sep 27 2009, 10:33 PM

We'll get the truth if Mel C speaks she always says it how it is! Tho if they are planning something it cant happen for a while Mel C is contracted for 6 months in Blood Brothers!

I'm sure if the money on the table was right then she'd do another tour with the other four! That's what understudies are for after all!

Hand on heart ... I'd be a bit disappointed if Mel C did agree to anything I always thought she was more about the music than the money. At the same time ... I'm not sure I'd do anything differently.

It's gonna be great if they do something together again, I saw ROTSG three times (I know-I'm a geek!) and it was fantastic but the reunion as a whole had lots of problems which hopefully they can now put right. Plus it'll be really cool if they get into a position where they can together for a single/album/dvd/book/tour/one off concert or something just whenever they feel like it as they're now all on good terms with each other. It's a hell of a lot sooner than I expected but I think I'm ready for Return of the Spice Girls 2.0 dancing.gif

Interview with Red: http://www.redonline.co.uk/red-women/interviews/spice-girls-geri-horner-on-ageing

The salient points of this interview: "I still love the girls, and there are other bits and bobs in the pipeline" re: Spice Girls, and the fact she's seemingly given up on her solo career, having "moved on from being a popstar" and turning her attention to TV work instead.

It seems safe to say that her 4th solo album isn't ever going to materialise, after what, 7 years of teasing and recording possibly three full length albums of material along the way? Oh well... at least the "Man on the Mountain" recording sessions leaked, which I guess can be looked as as being an honorary fourth album.

Posted by: Michael Andrew Nov 11 2017, 06:00 PM

'Keep On Dreaming' would be a lovely album track. Beautiful production from Ryan Louder (again). He works so sympathetically with her voice. She hasn't had to push herself too hard for high notes, so we get to enjoy her husky tone. It kind of washes over you.

Shame that she has said to be bowing out of music for now.

Posted by: sammy01 Nov 12 2017, 02:10 PM

Keep on dreaming is miles better than Angels in chains or anything else I've heard from her since her 3rd album.

Geri is set to be part of new BBC1 one Saturday night show 'All Together Now' alongside Rob Beckett:

QUOTE
All Together Now, hosted by Rob Beckett, is a singing contest with a twist. A range of talented singers will take to the stage to perform in front of The 100 - a unique panel of musical experts and performers from all over the UK. If any of The 100 like what they hear, they can stand up and join in. The greater the number that stand up and sing along, the higher the contestant’s score.

Geri will be heading up The 100. They are all passionate about music and performance, with big voices and even bigger opinions. Geri will be joining them to offer her expert advice as a performer, provide support and encouragement to the contestants, and find out exactly what will make The 100 stand up and join in with her…or not.

Geri says: "I'm so excited to be part of this show. It's about celebrating talent, uniting people from all walks of life, feeling good AND singing! It's a whole lot of joy standing up together on a Saturday night."

Comedian Rob Beckett will be ensuring the show is fun-filled with lots of laughs. He says: "If like me you're the sort of person who likes to belt out a tune in the shower then I'm pretty sure this is the show for you... but if you're the sort of person who likes to belt out a tune in the shower while another hundred people join in...then firstly, how big's your bathroom? And secondly, this is definitely the show for you!”

The Series will run for 6 episodes from this Saturday. Quote is taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2017/geri-all-together-now

Was it any good? Not sure whether to give it a go or not (yes, shockingly a Spice Girl's involvement in a programme isn't always a strong enough factor for me to watch something kink.gif )

~~~
Geri was accused by Susanna Reid of "throwing shade" at the other Spice Girls, during a recent interview. :')
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd3mMtCKR68&t=1m03s
Obviously Geri didn't mean it to come across like that, and she was really thrown off! Poor Geri ohmy.gif
Posted by: Spiceboy Jan 28 2018, 06:31 PM
I think that was a bit unprofessional of Reid tbh!
Posted by: Michael Andrew Jan 28 2018, 10:03 PM
I agree. There was no shade. Susanna was intentionally stirring the pot.
Geri looked hurt to be painted in that light. She's so much more sweet and sensitive these days.
With Geri's permission, Ryan Louder shared the 3 songs they recorded together - Keep On Dreaming, Hallelujah, Deeper Love - on YouTube.
Here's his message on Facebook page:
Spice Girls Fans! Geri has given me go ahead to put up the 3 songs we did!
This is all we did so please no more messages comments on every social media post making my life a spicy hell.
The story is. I am a left of field song writer music producer that does not really play by the music industry rule book. Most people in the industry treat me like an unusual koala bear that they like to look at from afar because they're scared if they cuddle me I will bite them on their a&r noses.
This kind of koala bear can be good to work with successful artists who usually only get rule book producer song writers through the door who will do the same thing as the next guy.
I worked with Geri for a few weeks and she was excited that we were doing something new.
Warners though decided to go with a ballad about George Michael for a single, which I had nothing to do with.
To my furry ears what we were doing was kinda cool and had a bit of edge. But it is almost never about the music when it comes to major label decisions. So what'ya gonna do? I snap at Warners fingers annoyed that I had wasted a few weeks and I run up my tree and chew on my eucalyptus leaves.
Here are the 3 songs youtu.be/-bNw7RS9lQ4
I love these tracks! Sorry to hear it was Warner's decision to not go ahead with any of them.
Posted by: Spiceboy Jun 8 2018, 10:07 PM
I totally missed Keep on dreaming last time don't know how! I bloody love that one wub.gif
I think most of MOTM is better but they are still lovely tracks, shame Warner didn't release.
Posted by: sammy01 Jun 9 2018, 10:35 PM
Interesting that Warner made the Angels in chains choice, I cant help but feel and always have, that it was a synical ploy to try and sell records on George's name and not the sentimental thing Geri felt she needed to do.
Either way it backfired.
Posted by: Michael Andrew Jun 10 2018, 01:19 PM
Gosh it sounds like spice fans have made Ryan Louder's life really difficult. Such a shame.
He has done some wonderful work for Geri and, by extension, for the fans.
I was happy with the little snippets from his website. But this is so kind. I love these songs. Man is a genius!
Posted by: schizo_spice Jun 10 2018, 01:30 PM
It's lovely to hear her voice on more tracks. I wish she would go ahead with a full album release but I have the feeling it won't happen.
We're fortunate to have the unreleased 2016 album though even though I'd have loved it in full CD quality.
Posted by: Fulvio84 Jun 25 2018, 10:53 PM
it's so frustrating to see all the work she's doing with music and ehaving a proper release or album.
If u check Ryan Louders'sessions and MONTM leaks, all of them are better than ANgels in chains.
I feel very difficult to understand the Record COmpany decisions to release that and scrap MONTM.... everything is strange bout those girls solo jobs.
Thanks God we have Mel C at least, but really need more Geri in my life again
Geri's interviewed and on the cover of The Sunday Times Magazine this weekend:
The second series of 'All Together Now' starts next Saturday on BBC One. I actually really like her and Rob Beckett together on the show, they bounce off each other well.
Posted by: Spiceboy Feb 23 2019, 01:14 PM
It's certainly helped soften Geri's image a bit. She isn't on it too much so you only get snippits of her rather than full on Geri which can be too much for alot of people.
Yes, 'Man On The Mountain' was due to be released in 2016, but was scrapped after the lead single 'Half Of Me' tanked on the charts, and 'Phenomenal Woman' was going to be the lead UK singles, all of these has leaked online, its worth checking out, there are a couple of decent tracks on here.
The tracklisting =
01. Love and Light
02. Humanity
03. Man on the Mountain
04. Beautiful Life
05. Deep Down
06. If You Love Someone
07. Miracles
08. Phenomenal Woman
09. Without Love
10. Sheriff
11. I've Got A Name
12. I'm Older Now
13. Get Involved
14. Half of Me
I think because it was still the done thing for the media to knock the Spice Girls' individual efforts at that time. It's less so the case now, but any chance where they could cackle with gales of laughter at them promoting a single or daring to have solo careers still then they would. That annoying witch who edited Smash Hits at the time - I want to say Emma Jones? - was often used as a talking head on these mindless unofficial documentaries or TV shows about them doing them down.
Anyway, I had a chance to read the Sunday Times Magazine interview. Really enjoyable, actually. So much of what Geri says particularly about the current state of the world is actually bang on, to be honest: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/exclusive-interview-geri-ginger-spice-horner-on-the-spice-girls-reunion-and-becoming-lady-of-the-manor-mbwb9cbbz (It is behind a paywall, but you can register for a free trial account to read it).
I don't think Half of Me could be considered as the album's lead single; it was just a stand alone release in Australia. That was released in late 2013, but she was still working on recording material in 2015/2016 with the aim of releasing an album... therefore Half of Me flopping had no bearing on the fate of this album. It wasn't amongst the 13 track leak - it was just added onto the end of the track list by fans.
I don't remember Phenomenal Woman being confirmed as being a single; my memory of this album is her teasing clips on her Instagram (in videos of her baking!) but never going as far as to confirm anything solid about the project... and then it leaked. It leaking is the reason why this material got scrapped, and Geri decided to go back to the drawing board (again). [ https://www.femalefirst.co.uk/music/musicnews/geri-horner-nervous-making-new-music-1069662.html ]
Geri spent many years recording - she'd scrap material and then start all over again (for instance she was working on a pop/dance album in 2012 before deciding to change her artistic direction). 2012-17 was a frustrating period to be a fan of hers, given that the promise of new music lingered and then ultimately wasn't fulfilled, on at least three separate occasions.
We'll never know if this 'Man on the Mountain' material would have officially/commercially seen the light of day if it hadn't been leaked, but given her track record during the four years running up to its leak, I have my doubts she'd have got to that stage.
After the Man on the Mountain leak, she started recording again & one of the songs from the newer sessions was Angels in Chains, which was the first taster of what would have been a totally different fourth album... but its under-performance, plus Geri's realisation that she no longer felt overly passionate about performing, lead to that proposed album being scrapped too.
QUOTE
She says she’s “moved on from being a pop star”. She recently released the single Angels In Chains as a tribute to George Michael, but didn’t really enjoy performing it.
“And am I prepared to do gigs? I performed at 1.30am one night, got in at 4.30am in the morning and Bluebell woke me up at 8.30am wanting her mum. I’m not sure that lifestyle is conducive to where I’m at right now.”
I kinda think this too. We know she was struggling to get her material released. I think the leak was probably just a good excuse for why the material never came out. I don't think I know the full circumstances around the leak...but I'm guessing it may have happened when it was clear that the material wouldn't see the light of day otherwise.
Shame. Because I like quite a bit of the Man on the Mountain material. I don't think she would have gotten a legitimate hit...but I do think Love and Light was good enough to get a bit of attention on its own merits.
Side note. I really do feel a bit bad for Eliot Kennedy. He did material for Forever...the VB album...Life in Mono...Geri's fourth album...and GEM...and NONE of it saw an official release. Most of it just got leaked instead. Sure, his computer's not exactly secure...but that's got to be tiresome to keep recording with these people and only for it to get ditched.
I would love to get MOTM with proper production, I think it is a brilliant album already in demo form. I have to say Geri's always been consistent with her albums they all have catchy melodic songs.
Bingo. It wasn't ever going to come out anyway - just another reason for her not releasing it. She might enjoy recording but I don't think she enjoys "just" performing songs without the gratification of success. If she wanted to do solo music she'd have to accept that it wasn't ever going to smash the charts like it used to and play small gigs and I don't think that's her thing.
Geri of 2019 is such a bizarre person now. I think deep down inside she still wants to be famous, have attention and be successful. It is just her persona is now Lady Geri of the manor and she wouldn't be seen dead on top of a car doing an X factor judging stint.
So we have this weird Geri still doing a Spice Girls tour to massage her ego and doing Drag race UK but doing it with her lady of the manor persona. I mean who listens to their unreleased songs and posts it on social media unless they want that attention, but your average popstar would do it sat at home or at a studio, Geri is doing it driving in a car all in white in the country because it cant be seen as just doing it for attention.
Posted by: Jay ☆ Oct 27 2019, 01:45 AM
Who watched her stint as a judge on Drag Race UK?
It doesn't seem like the reaction from viewing audiences is very favourable! sad.gif Mostly a lot of people commented that she was kind of boring/dull and far from the Geri they once recognised.
I guess my feeling is that... I'm somewhat getting used to this calmer, genteel version of Geri, so I kind of expected it. It's just a bit of an odd fit for Drag Race, and made it seem like she wasn't properly getting into the spirit of it. Also she definitely wasn't too impressed by one of the queens' impression of Victoria lol, that was awkward.
Her best moment for me was the fact she appreciated Sum Ting Wong & gave her lovely words of encouragement at the end of the episode, that was pretty touching.
Nicola Roberts has complemented Geri regarding their time on Popstars: The Rivals -
QUOTE
“I just felt young, really young and I went up and I sang, and I did my thing and I remember Geri came running off and she was my favourite as well! So, I was just like ‘I don’t know what is happening right now!'
"She was like, ‘You have something so special and I’m rooting for you and you sound so good’. It’s funny, throughout my whole career, it’s always been women, from the very start.
"It’s always been a certain type of woman, like Geri was always the one who championed me through Popstar: The Rivals."
wub.gif
I still remember how Geri fought for Nicola to be one of the final 10 girls, but Louis Walsh overruled her. Nicola was eventually brought back when one of the finalists pulled out before the live shows began. I guess Geri’s belief in Nicola ensured she was the one who was chosen (they could have gone with 3 other girls from the prior selection process). There had already been one replacement made (Kimberley Walsh wasn’t initially in the final 10 either). How different Girls Aloud would have been if fate hadn’t stepped in!
Geri was clearly very good at spotting potential! Nice that Nicola has praised her. I don’t think Geri is particularly remembered for her role in forming Girls Aloud!
Posted by: schizo_spice Apr 3 2020, 12:04 PM
Nice indeed and yes Geris contributions to Girls Alouds creation does tend to get pushed under the carpet. I haven't read Kimberley and Cheryl's books in a while but I believe they also have nice things to say aswell.
I've seen that some Spice fans aren't happy with this clip of Jade from Little Mix saying "RIP Geri". To me, it felt like a throwaway comment, and what she likely meant by it was RIP to Geri's "Ginger Spice" 90s personality? However I have seen people argue that such a comment is not very supportive of women evolving as they mature. Hmm, at the end of the day Jade is a big Spice fan and I don't think she meant any malice, although equally I don't think it was the cutest choice of phrase.
Idk, let me know what you think!
Posted by: Andrew. Jun 21 2020, 03:29 AM
Tbh as someone who likes LM but doesn't love them and is becoming a bit of a Spice stan her comments don't really bother me, it doesn't change my opinion of Queen Jade but her comment felt a bit...needless. She could've just left it at 'old Geri or new Geri' without the RIP but she could've said worse laugh.gif
Posted by: sammy01 Jun 21 2020, 08:03 AM
The truth is everyone sees the new Geri as a joke and pretty much dislikes the way she acts now. Most of us hold dear the Geri that is long since dead evidently and Jade is spot on.
Posted by: Chemistry Jun 21 2020, 08:18 AM
Couldn't agree more with Jade.
And keep in mind, this is a drag show she is doing. It's funny and shady, she even called her mum a "shady bitch" are something like that. It's just a bit of fun and games.
Posted by: Lukuzz Jun 21 2020, 09:23 AM
It was a joke, I don't think she meant any harm by it. Jade genuinely seems like one of the most lovely people on the planet and I'm sure she is a huge spice girls fan. She was just saying what we all think about Geri these days tbh.
Posted by: Spiceboy Jun 21 2020, 10:06 AM
I agree with her RIP in Geri Halliwell invaded by Geri Horner!
Posted by: schizo_spice Jun 21 2020, 11:14 AM
The thing is though if Geri was still the person she was back then she'd be ridiculed just as much for not acting her age. Look at how much abuse she got for her 2005 documentary and she was only in her early 30s then. Even in 2018 when she started yapping in the Jonathan Ross group nterview she got accused of being irritating/not letting others speak but had she been more quiet and reserved people would say "Wheres Gobby Ginger"??? She really cant win whatever way she chooses to go in.
For me personally as a big fan I look at her and she seems happy with the life she is living which in turn makes me happy for her. I know she has changed a lot and I do miss aspects of who she once was but life moves on and people evolve.
Posted by: sammy01 Jun 21 2020, 01:06 PM
There is being gobby then there is wearing white constantly and baking cakes. It is like she has had a personality transplant. It is also easy to see a more evolved version of the other 4 but still feeling true to who they are. Geri's just seems like a total act, I mean Mel C obviously loves working out, Mel B will always be a bit in your face and tactless. Geri wearing white to do gardening is an obvious conscious choice to try to come across a certain way. It doesn't feel natural and she doesn't seem natural trying to talk in a posh accent while baking cakes, it is forced and for show.
Mel B actually mellowed quite a lot during the mid noughties. The LA State of Mind era Mel was very chilled. I think she definitely puts on a bit of a front for her public persona and "Scary Spice" image, it's what gets her TV gigs.
That doesn't strike me as a children's book.
The tabloids had a story a month or so ago that she had trade marked rainbow woman for children's books. It says they are LGBT inclusive books aimed at kids so make of that what you will.
I'm dreading it because even from that clip it seems she wants to keep this regal shit she has going on.
There might be a song to go with the books as rainbow woman has been registered as a song with Geri as a co-writer and Notting Hill as the label who I've never heard of.
Posted by: schizo_spice Oct 31 2020, 05:56 PM
My theory is rainbow women is as symbol for strong women and that trailer sees her as the Virgin Queen who was a strong woman in history.
Maybe there is other promotional trailers coming to promote the project? I hope we do get a new song.
Rainbow Woman is written by Geri and Daniel Meskell. Meskell also co-wrote Angels In Chains with Geri.
To be honest, being 'controversial' is all she has as an artist lol
Oh dear that's quite interesting! Being a Spanish man myself, "ita" or "-ito" name endings are meant to sound cutesy-wutesy, but in her case sounds plain odd laugh.gif
Thank God for the Mels. I will go to a Spice concert - if that ever happens - only for these two. The others are BAF.
I will say it is a relief to see her looking gorgeous in something not white on her social media profile pic.
Money and status has definitely changed Victoria and Geri. The other 3 seem like exactly the same people to me as they always were just more mature these days.
I dont think it changed her at all. She was always focused on attention and money/power. That was her whole MO. The only thing that she has changed is that she is more settled, but that is something she always wanted to do anyway - she used to say that herself.
Money and power just allowed her to do that without worrying about getting a job or money. Now that she doesnt *have to*, her obsessions with royalty and power are just at the surface without her having to pretend to be this super liberal person lol
Not that Gerita was ever my fave, but I’m kinda sad to her acting this way. The whole royal obsession is pathetic. And this desperate housewife image has no girl power.
And don’t let me start with what she said about ‘lesbian feminism’. This will be such bad publicity if she’s going to release an LGBTQ+ inclusive book.
Shall we wait and see what it is before we all drag poor Geri to the pits of hell. I'm not massively fond of her either tbh but some of the comments, anyone would think she had personally put LGBTQ+ into a concentration camp while wearing royal attire! blink.gif
I think the royal theme is an obvious nod to Elizabeth I personally, nothing to do with Geri seeing herself as a royal person (and she never did it was the Ginger persona which has always had showgirl / pop princess vibes anyway), but lets wait and see before we throw her into the lion pit.
Did you not see her opening outfit for the SW19 tour? Her gushing about queen Elizabeth during the Spice Girls interval talk on the screens at the tour.
She most definitely has some weird obsession right now in being seen as regal and in royalty.
Posted by: schizo_spice Nov 1 2020, 09:11 PM
I think Geri just loves/admires influential women in history. She made a big deal about her SW 2019 dress being a statement that she no longer feels the need to show lots of flesh in her 40s.
I've never looked on Geri as a snob at all she has always been about recycling old outfits and being more Camden Market than Designer.
Desperate housewife image? What a slap in the face to all the hard-working housewives around the world. What is the obsession with gay male Spice fans who want Geri to dress and act like she did in her 20's?
What is it with people thinking anyone taking issue with the way Geri currently acts and portrays herself wants her to dress like it was 1997.
Geri is 47 there are lots of older celebrities or famous people I like and they don’t dress like they are 20 either.
Let's be honest if wearing white, tory voting, Lady of the manor Geri had never been in the Spice Girls most of us wouldn't even acknowledge her existence and most would actively dislike her as she is the antithesis of what most of us are looking for in an artist.
I'll be honest Geri currently embodies a lot of things I dislike in people and that is nothing to do with her not dressing like she is 20. Tori Amos, Kathy Burke, Sheryl Crow and so on are other women I admire that don't dress like they are in their 20s but they also aren't horrific lady of the manor, tory wife women either.
Did you see her at last year's concert? Everytime she spoke to the crowd, it seemed like she was Elizabeth herself, almost talking like "my people". My boyfriend and I still joke about it all the time. And I don't want to drag her, as I do think she clearly has some issues and has had a pretty tough live, but it does make sense a lot of fans are upset / disappointed with the way she is behaving these days. An this has nothing to do with the way she dresses, but more the way she acts in general. Geri has always been my favourite and will always have a special place in my heart BUT I do think we can be critical of the things she says and does.
And like I said in another topic, no one is saying Geri is anti-LGBT (although her shutting down the Mel B rumours were questionable, with her 'it will upset my husband' which clearly IS a homophobic statement), but she is supporting an anti-LGBT party and government and therefore also responsible for this anti-LGBT sentiment. So she can perform in G-A-Y as much as she likes, but that still doesn't mean she is the ally we all thought (and hoped) she was.
I have a hard-working mother, classy woman, that doesn’t need to act like a privileged silver spoon.
As for Miss Horner, everything she’s been doing lately screams desperate. She used to be camp, she decided that wasn’t appropriate to her age anymore and that’s respectable. She’s all about this commonwealth *ish, bet Dutchess Geri Horner the formerly G.A.Y. Icon doesn’t give a damn anymore about LGBTQ+ right in Commonwealth nations.
Are you serious? A simple google will reveal a lot of results. The current Gov has specifically targetted LGBTQ protections, more recently to the GRA consultation, attempting to overthrown trans rights in the UK, for instance.
Boris himself has been incredibly homophobic, consistently demonising gay men in particular. Theresa May's cabinet deliberatly outed a gay man in the press against his own will, to overshadow the fact that he was giving public evidence of the illegal actions of the Gov around the Brexit vote.
The Home Office has worked to remove the rights of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in the UK, forcing them to 'provide evidence' on their sexuality which would include providing sex tapes to prove their sexuality. I worked with asylum seeking groups and the stories are horrific.
There are two things that the tories done for the white gay community: gay marriage and provision of PreP. None of them were won with Tory votes, in fact if it wasnt for coalition of opposition parties support on those votes, we wouldnt have either cos the majority of tories voted against those.
Furthermore, their politics and ideologies of individualism and 'some are greater than others' is directly to the detriment of minorities in general, including LGBTQ+.
The list goes on and on and on, to be honest. The tories only care for the pink pound when it suits them.
You are conflating gay rights with rights to put children on puberty blockers. Thank Goodness that the UK Government did something about the Mermaids bs that was floating around.
I cant believe people think it was ok for Mel B to blurt out on national TV that she had slept with Geri. Whether its true or not it was awful to do it without talking it over with Geri first.
Sexuality is irrelevant I'd think it was tacky as hell if for example Lee from Steps blurted-out that he'd slept with Lisa back in the day without her consent.
Geri pretty much already confirmed it on Alan Carr in 2012 when the three did an interview. Her response was the complete opposite to her now, her 'it was the 90s' line would never cross prude Geri's lips now. What a difference 7 years made.
OK this is straight up transphobia and it really isnt a good look, hun. Mermaids support trans children and their parents and do vital work. Trans kids have as much right to exist as you do!
The way people in the UK talk about trans people is the same as homophobes used to back in the 80s and 90s during the Section 28 days. It has led to a lot of trans people and kids being beaten, harrassed on the street and online.
Please recalibrate what you are saying and understand that this is fundamentally a human rights issue!
I didn’t like that Mel B thing myself, I never watch that trashy TV. But I don’t get why Geri tries hard to erase something natural. We all have experiences when we’re young and we do things that sometimes we regret when we’re older, being ashamed is another thing though.
Let’s not forget we’re talking about Miss ‘I’m gonna pretend I’m having an affair with Chris Evans to get the no.1 spot over Emma’.
She called Maggie T the original Spice Girl because she took life by the balls and clawed her way from greengrocer’s daughter to the most powerful position in the county, and in a time when we still lived in a very male dominated country... I loathe Thatcher but even I can appreciate that was a massive achievement and actually one of the pivotal points of “girl power” was not letting anyone stand in your way and that women could achieve just as much if not more than men...
Also she never said she supported May or Brexit as such just that we should try and support each other more regardless of our views and that the country was very divided. Never once did she say “I support Theresa May and her policies I voted Conservatives and to leave in Brexit” you’re just assuming that.
Posted by: schizo_spice Nov 2 2020, 11:46 PM
Yeah Geris Thatcher praise back in the day was clearly to do with her getting to where she was as a woman rather than her supporting her politics.
I'm amazed people didn't/don't see that.
This.
And I agree with schizo_spice that Geri was just looking to support a powerful woman with her comments about Thatcher. Geri was in her early 20s. She was a soundbite machine and said lots of somewhat bonkers things. "Thatcher was the first Spice Girl" was a statement that did its job in that...it got people talking. Did Geri understand Thatcher as a very complicated, controversial figure? I kind of doubt it. She was also a fan of Marilyn Monroe without having seen any of her movies.
As for her reaction to the Mel B fling...look. I would have also preferred that Geri just laugh it off and embrace the past. But in reality, her embarrassment isn't over the fact the fling's with a woman...it's WHO that person is. Geri readily admitted to having a lesbian relationship for years. But there's a reason "David Bowie slept with men" was a lot less salacious to the public than the claim "David Bowie slept with Mick Jagger." Geri and Mel B were already forever tied in the public eye...and the story of their fling (at least for a while) overwhelmed the attention to the actual reunion tour in the works. No matter how woke we think we are now, the world DID act like this was a huge scandal...and Geri probably knew that would happen. It's no one's place to tell Geri how she should feel about something this personal getting blurted out to the world.
As for her standing with the LGBT community, I think it's easy to forget something in 2020. It's a different world now. Pretty much all pop stars embrace their LGBT fans. That was not the case in Geri's late 90s/early 2000s heyday. It's not that pop stars were anti-LGBT (...mostly...). It's just many of them weren't overt in their support, really. Geri? She was never quiet about it. Even said she wrote songs for the gay community. Geri wasn't alone. There was, like...Madonna, for example. But Geri's fans were younger and were more likely to have the cash of conservative parents buying albums/singles. Geri probably had more to lose. Anyway. Her candor about it was something I definitely appreciated at the time.
No matter how woke we think we are now, the world DID act like this was a huge scandal...and Geri probably knew that would happen. It's no one's place to tell Geri how she should feel about something this personal getting blurted out to the world.
As for her standing with the LGBT community, I think it's easy to forget something in 2020. It's a different world now. Pretty much all pop stars embrace their LGBT fans. That was not the case in Geri's late 90s/early 2000s heyday. It's not that pop stars were anti-LGBT (...mostly...). It's just many of them weren't overt in their support, really. Geri? She was never quiet about it. Even said she wrote songs for the gay community. Geri wasn't alone. There was, like...Madonna, for example. But Geri's fans were younger and were more likely to have the cash of conservative parents buying albums/singles. Geri probably had more to lose. Anyway. Her candor about it was something I definitely appreciated at the time.
Yes. This is why I'll always be thankful for her existence tbh. The first time I heard the word "queer" was in a Geri's song. I remember watching her debut interviews and she was amazingly outspoken about LGBT. It was the first time I heard the "gay" word because of one her debut interviews back in the day I had in my Spice interviews cd. I was 9. For a 9 year old kid who's from Middle East it was an eye opening moment for me. Like, I don't think some of you all understand what it meant to hear those "strange" words for a 9 year old kid. Woah, even writing about it made me kinda emotional. I'll always be grateful for Geri Halliwell. I really really don't want to believe that she's a Tory. She's a gay icon to me, to this date...
There is nothing wrong with being a Tory supporter. People should be allowed to vote to whichever party they want. We don't live in a dictatorship.
Of course, but supporting parties against civil rights is a bit contradicting for someone who used to ‘love’ the Gays so much aka the Gays who bought her records.
I love how Melanie C took the time to educate herself about the LGBTQ+ community. She’s humble and I appreciate that. Her political views are in line with what she says and the way she acts.
I really hope Geri proves me wrong. I would be THE FIRST to acknowledge that.
That said, still no news on her new projects?
Lol. Ofcourse people should vote for whichever party they want, just like people can be very critical about this exact same fact. That what makes a democracy. And believe me, there is a lot wrong with being a tory supporter (in my opinion).
This is exactly right and yes, I am also here for Geri to come around and educate herself.
Not sure how this will be received but at least its on youtube and not TV which is less pressure to succeed.
I'm intrigued by the musical aspect the most and how much her acting has improved.
Good luck Geri.
I mean this needs to be amazing because no one and I mean not even die hard Spice fans were asking for this.
Omg, this is going to be a total car crash, isn't it? laugh.gif I mean, I know I have been quite negative about her recently, mostly coming from a place of love though as she has always been one my absolute favourites, but she will never stop to amaze me. A Youtube series with her being the queen? Like what..... It does look it has quite a high budget as well.
Posted by: sammy01 Nov 8 2020, 08:44 AM
Her obsession with royalty and being seen as regal is incredibly off putting.
I wonder if this royal thing and those gowns are some sort of fetish that Daddy Horner has. I would do the same for Daddy Horner, he seems such a bull 🤤😛
It is embarrassing, I feel she wants to release solo music but hasn't the balls to anymore so has created this rubbish around it to make it not be seen as commercial or to avoid it flopping.
I really don't want to see a nearly 50 year old woman dress up and do skits or multimillionaire running round in fields or doing things out in the countryside.
As much as Melanie C's music quality can be questionable at least she has the guts to put herself and her music out there on the line and believe in it.
She gave us 3 good singles from the latest album and a lot of filler that is my personal opinion. The Melanie C rate seems to be confirming my opinion though.
As for this Geri project if you can stream/listen to the songs separate form the other stuff that is what I'll be doing.
I've no doubt it is different to others.
Can we just stop with constantly doing the 'your opinion doesn't match mine so yours is wrong stuff'. It is pretty boring and worrying that we as a group of adults can't just accept that we have differing opinions and that is why we post here. If we all agreed there would be no point posting.
Honestly the over defensive Melanie C fans don't need to stress, my opinion is mine and that is ok. I give her the time of day which is more than most people. She can't and won't please everyone and your life would be so much better if you just accepted that. I don't give a toss about Metacritic and neither should you. If you enjoy the music then that's great, if you think it is amazing I won't tell you you are wrong because opinions are like arse holes everyone's got one.
I was joking it was a completely humorous response, apologies if it offended.
But actually Sammy in all fairness your comment was kind of unnecessary anyway there was no need to discuss the quality of Melanie's music in your post anyway it has nothing to do with the discussion whatsoever. So perhaps you avoid commenting on the quality of the other girls music unless it's actually a thread directly about that and you won't provoke the reactions you receive whether they are made in humour or not.
No it wasn't necessary to refer to her music as "questionable" at all. The point was that Melanie has the balls to release her music and self fund it rather than needing some vehicle behind her in order to do it, not whether her music is good or bad.
No my point was Melanie C has the courage to release music even if it is questionable. I mean she ignores Stages herself these days and songs like Cool as you and that Jodie Harsh EP, I think she knows those were questionable releases in quality and style but she still released them. Again please don't tell me what MY opinion is.
Geri has sat on Man on the mountain for years and even now isn't just putting it out there traditionally. She is still hiding it behind some YouTube documentary series. It has a total lack of belief and conviction.
Again I'm not telling you what your opinion is. The first post was in jest. Then I was simply suggesting to you that instead of moaning about people commenting on your opinion maybe don't throw your opinions about when it is completely not needed.
In that situation when you didn't need to say "as much as Melanie's music quality can be questionable" you could have simply stated that Melanie has the balls to release her music. I mean unless you are already writing off Geri's music that you've not even heard yet, (if you're saying Melanie's released questionable music therefore Geri should be able to too)? If not again what was the point of your "opinion" at that time?
Posted by: Piers Nov 8 2020, 05:26 PM
I'm still very murky on what all of this is. Is all this stuff of her going on various real-life adventures/recording music/spending time with family...going to be interspersed with the Queen Elizabeth material? I'll take a shot in the dark and say...maybe the show will have historical moments of Queen Elizabeth showing bravery, ambition, etc...and then Geri will try to take on that attribute in a real world scenario? It's a guess, but that'd make the most sense to me in terms of getting the music heard...unless the plan is for Geri's Queen Elizabeth to leap out of a carriage and go dancing through a crowd of peasants singing Get Involved.
I remember in the old DenDen, someone in Geri's camp used to come in and post about Geri's various bonkers TV show ideas. I guess this is the one that finally stuck.
Credit where it's due. The videography on this show looks sharp. And I like that Love and Light gets a little play in the video. She genuinely does have a lot of unreleased material that deserves to be heard.
One other thing. Maybe I just don't totally understand this, but does she not already have control of the Geri Halliwell page with nearly 50K followers? Why start a new YouTube page just for this?
I think it isn't hard to understand and you are being deliberately obtuse now.
Melanie C has released some questionable quality music but had the conviction to do it any way no matter the sales or critique. If Geri had the same conviction it wouldn't matter Man on the mountain quality or success she would have released it years ago.
Releasing it now and like this feels a cop out to me.
I'm glad her acting is getting a lot of positive feedback.
Acting is something I've never cared for from them but Geri got crucified for Sex in the City. Her acting in Trollied and now this has definitely been a big improvement.
Posted by: Piers Nov 8 2020, 07:46 PM
In terms of Geri not just putting out music through an independent release...I'd say this.
I'm personally always being told...you're creative. Why don't you just quit your job and work for yourself? Straight up. I don't have the organizational skills for that. And maybe (on a far, far, far grander scale) that's Geri too. Geri is a creative with a genuine songwriting ability...but at least from what I can tell...she doesn't have the organization and focus of, say, Mel C. Not every single artist has the ability to create their own label and handle everything on their own.
Geri's life must place her ego in a strange place. She had an incredible chart run at one time. She can still sell out stadiums when paired with the other girls. And no record company will entertain the notion of working with her.
So. I mean. Whatever bonkers way she wants to get music out there, I'm game for it. Beats me how this whole thing will turn out...but to be totally honest, she's probably got a better chance of bringing attention to her music by doing an out-of-left-field Queen Elizabeth routine than just releasing a new Geri Halliwell album.
Posted by: sammy01 Nov 8 2020, 08:12 PM
I actually don't think the idea is a bad one but the roll out thus far has been awful.
Imagine if she had done a 3 and a half minute trailer with clips from the documentary and one of the songs in the back ground with a cut away to Geri doing a voice over, "these past 25 years have been an amazing journey with you all, we have laughed, loved and cried together. I want to bring you a glimpse into my life, inspirational women and my music. Each week I'll upload an episode and new song that demonstrate that. Can't wait for you all to see and hear this new chapter, love Geri".
Then upload the song each week separately for those not bothered about the documentary. Half way through the 13 episodes put up a physical pre-order on her webstore and Amazon of a cd and vinyl of all 13 tracks together to be released after the final episode drops.
Posted by: dancinqueen Nov 8 2020, 08:32 PM
Let’s see what’s next. I’m glad Geri is not singing. What killed the sales of Schizophonic was that she couldn’t tour as she’s not able to own the stage by herself. She has proved since then that she can be a creative mind. A career as a writer would be amazing IMO. She’s intelligent, I don’t agree with her political views, but I can’t say she’s not smart. Her autobiography is the best one of the solo.
As for Melanie C, I also stopped buying her records after Reason. To me it’s not a matter of quality, just taste, I wanted her to be the indie chick she was with Ga Ga, Goin’ Down but it didn’t happen.
Is Melanie C the album my taste? Not at all, but it’s a good pop record. Who I Am is the best solo song since the Norther Star days. The reviews are the best ever for anything Spice related. But reviews are reviews, and what matters is people. Some people like her, some don’t. That’s it.
I also understand the frustration of some of the other girls fans, for them it’s easier to trash Melanie C when they haven’t had anything from their idols in ages..
In all honesty, that's fair. That plan would serve her better...though it seems she feels the public will have more interest in the video content over the new music. That may not be true in this forum. But it'd probably be true in general.
Anyway. I'm guessing some of this rollout would be handled by her management company?
I won't totally get into the weeds as to why I was there, but about a year ago, I actually made a stop into CTK Management outside of Nashville for work reasons. As far as I know...they still handle Geri. She's still on their site anyway. Their main lobby area actually had a framed shot of Geri at the '97 Brits. But. You could definitely tell the focus of the team was on Dolly Parton. Most of the walls were covered in Dolly material...joined by...oddly enough...things for the band Slipknot. I give the company credit. There's variety. Anyway. I can't totally blame the focus. Dolly is a legend and an empire. But I did kind of wonder how much focus would go into Geri projects...and why Geri would want a management group so far away and out of the country.
Posted by: sammy01 Nov 9 2020, 12:43 AM
I think the fact she has 2 videos on her new YouTube channel and done an insta live and we are still not sure exactly what is going on shows this hasn't been handled well.
I feel it is more Geri than any management, she is so wrapped up in a theme and trying to be elaborate she hasn't thought how this would come across. The 2 videos on her channel have zero relevance to each other and no one knows why it is being called 'rainbow woman' outside of what the press has said. We don't know how or what medium the music will be released either.
In a world where there are a zillion things to grab your attention, having to invest this much time and energy to even know what on earth this is going to be will lose plenty of people's attention already.
Random longtime fan observation...
Did you notice that the music toward the end of her The Queen Speaks video is the same as the music she used to open her 2004 GAY show?
It's a very famous piece of music. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. But very recognizable. Could possibly be coincidence. But I'd kinda like to think Geri was involved enough in both projects for her to pop up and say..."USE THIS!"
Oh, no. I watched it on mute.
Posted by: Piers Nov 11 2020, 02:15 AM
I guess I'm a few days late on this, but I finally watched that 30 minute Instagram live (...which is now on a guy's Youtube). It's so odd that even after a 30-minute video, I'm still a bit unsure about what this is exactly...though I guess being mysterious is part of the intended rollout?
Also. I took the Queen Speaks video to be a teaser of what's to come...but it's actually one of the 13 episodes? That's what I got from her Instagram live, anyway. So...are these just going to be little bite sized episodes? A few minutes each? Also...to hear her describe it, it sounds like the music will just be heard in the end credits of her videos. It'd be nice if the songs could at the very least get their own individual Youtube uploads?
She handled the Live in a fairly odd way, really...constantly saying she's taking a look at her viewer questions...but rarely answering them. (her inspirations are...Tom Hanks and Octavia Spencer...?) If she were to honestly sit down and do questions and answers about her life and career like Mel C has done this year, I think I'd actually enjoy that. She's honestly lived a very interesting life. Granted, there are things I think she'd probably rather not discuss at this point...
I’m still a little unclear about what the purpose of this is, but I suppose there doesn’t have to be a particular point laugh.gif
I’m most curious about how she intends to make the songs accessible.
Posted by: schizo_spice Nov 12 2020, 04:49 PM
As long as they are accessible though right. :biggrin.gif
And in good quality.
I'm hoping all will be released together as an album at the end of all this. wub.gif
I mean she would be mad not to stick them together on album. With the way the chart is now she could get herself a cute top 20 album with a cd, vinyl, cassette release especially in Feb when 4k will get top 10.
It's whether she will do it herself as she doesn't seem to be able to get a label to release an album for her... I wonder if it's because of her expectations as I really don't understand why Emma can get a deal and Geri can't!?
I agree she is more popular than Geri, however Geri sold quite significantly more than Emma so you would think she would appeal more to a record company than Emma does regardless of likability... Madonna is seen as very unlikable never stopped her being a power horse when it came to record sales.
I was talking about in likability factor when comparing Emma to Kylie not about as artists or selling records.
Emma falls into that category with the general public where they smile say 'ah Ive always liked her' when they see her on TV, Holly Willoughby and a few other spring to mind too.
Geri gets a very negative reaction when on TV. Neither has a big hard-core fan base so it's easy to see why Emma that the general public like has a record contract over Geri who generally is off putting to the general public.
This is all very true. Emma might have not reached the hights of Ms Halliwell back in 1999/2000, but certainly she has managed to mantain a much more likeable profile in the UK at least.
True. But that’s easy when you’re bland af. I’m not a Gerita fan, but I do recon that she has taken risks many times, when Emma played safe (put it on, put it on 😂).
Safe? BLAND?! LOL I mean it would have been a perfectly adequate insult but not when we are in a Geri forum lol Her solo works have always been safe and bland, only her marketing and branding her been adventurous. You cant say that about Bunton who has at least experimented really well with different sounds and made it her own. Gerita copied the Spice Girls sound and release strategies in her work ahha
Posted by: sammy01 Nov 13 2020, 11:35 AM
Not to mention the Geri of today runs at the first sight of flopping or underperforming. She has 13 songs but here we are her sticking them on youtube after some bizarre vlog stuff. That isn't brave.
Posted by: dancinqueen Nov 13 2020, 02:33 PM
They’re all bland by themselves. That’s why none of them will ever be as big as the Spice Girls.
But they’re all good women and I love them all to bits.
That said, saying Geri was a copycat and Emma experimental is totally deluded.
Emma has such a bland voice, Geri can’t sing but she’s got personality.
The Free Me era was mostly a manufactured thing that sounded amazing because her manager / ex-lover wanted her to be the next vintage girl. And wasn’t even that serious. Some songs have great arrangements but there’s no big voice to sustain that.
If you listen to Goin’ Down and Ga Ga at least Melanie C voice is credible and not just a gimmick.
So, again, Geri might be the worst singer ever in terms of technical approach, but at least she conveys some feelings with her texture.
I rather hope in this series that Geri goes to meet a nice dominatrix who...lives on a mountain or whatever. That way, maybe we can finally hear that song she recorded a long while back about spankings. Certainly I can't be the only one who remembers this. It was so hot, she had to record it in her bra? Yeah. That I've gotta hear.
I love the new episode. Still not connecting with the music though. Hope with a few more listens I’ll like it.
Posted by: Piers Nov 15 2020, 04:59 PM
I thought she said in her Insta live that the songs were going to play at the end of each video? Technically, a small bit of Love and Light does play at the end of this one...so I really hope that's not what she was referring to.
As to the video itself, it's cute. The photography is honestly excellent. Besides some audio glitches toward the end of her interview (which would have been an easy fix...), her team's doing a good job. In terms of storytelling, there's part of me that wishes a few minutes were spent at the start of this one...reintroducing her family as characters in this series...seeing where she lives...talking about what she's doing. Instead...it's a bit...'okay, we're goin' up a mountain!'
My major disappointment is the new version of Man on the Mountain being used. What I liked about the version we've previously known was the combination of guitar and dancey elements. I always found that one really beautiful. It's probably one of my three favorites of her recent-ish material. The new one robs it of the fun. I guess I'm going to have to grin and bear it cause this is seemingly the official version. I can remember Geri also scaled down Back in Business at one point. So. I hope she hasn't gone through and stripped a bunch of her songs of their energy in some attempt at maturity. At least it sounds like Love and Light has been untouched.
Posted by: Alberto! Nov 15 2020, 06:07 PM
It's all very random and too fast to process without going a bit 'wtf have I just watched' but I'm glad if this is a way for her to share new music. I don't expect the series to do much outside her circle of stans, but surely better than nothing at all, or see those songs been left on a shelf.
Posted by: sammy01 Nov 15 2020, 06:30 PM
Just watched and all I kept thinking was 'why?'. It just has no narrative and connection to the Queen Elizabeth video. If it had started with Bluebell challenging her to climb a mountain or some reason for doing it it might have made more sense. It just felt like I've got nothing better to do and oodles of money so I'll hop in a helicopter and climb a mountain.
It was nice to see a bit of personality from her I guess.
I'd rather just have the music though, will see if it gets uploaded tomorrow I won't hold my breath though as wouldn't she have stated that herself?
Yeah. My general feeling watching this was I was watching little selected clips from a series...not watching the series itself. I think it'd be nice to have a few more characters in the mix...and hopefully future installments will get there. Beats me if her husband wants in this...but Bluebell and Geri's mother would seem to be good additions to have around. I get that Geri's not wanting to do the usual train wreck/family drama reality TV thing with this. But having women of multiple generations of the family in the mix would seem to add to the vibe she's going for. I did think she came across well in the video.
I saw she posted something on Insta about uploading a "hangover" to Youtube on Tuesday. I assume that'll be the song? Both Man on the Mountain and Love and Light are featured in this episode...so...kinda makes me wonder which we might be getting. Man on the Mountain, I assume.
The first episode would have been a great set up if it had Bluebell writing down some challenges folding them up and putting them in a jar. Geri doesn't know what they are and picks one out at the start of each episode in front of Bluebell. "Ok so today I'll be...... learning to be a bee keeper haha' or 'climb a mountain'. Then we could get her taking a pic of video at the end of each episode to show Bluebell.
Posted by: Piers Nov 17 2020, 08:37 PM
I'm generally a defender of her solo ambitions. I genuinely like the vast majority of her music. I've even come to view this Youtube channel as a kinda creative way of getting around some hurdles in getting her music heard.
But. Geri...This. Is. Not. It.
What a mess. The song's cut down to only two minutes. She talks all over it. This version sounds like a demo for the (to me) incomparably better version that leaked a few years ago. Does anyone honestly like this version better? She's had major success in stages of her career. Her team seems sharp in their videography. How could this many people get it this wrong? Ugh. Geri! Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
On a minor plus side...there are a lot of comments of complaint. So. Maybe her team will get the message. Duh.
Like her and her team don't know already what the fans want from her is properly released solo music.
I don't think there is any fan who wouldn't take an album release over this Rainbow woman nonsense.
The album chart is currently set up for heritage acts to go big and hard with physical releases to get a good chart placing. Look at Melanie C. If Geri had the guts to stick the 13 songs on an album, release it on cd, vinyl and cassette then she would get a top 20 album (maybe top 10 if timed right) and the fans would be happy. This project just stinks of not having the balls to do that and half baked sort of releasing them whilst massaging her ego.
Posted by: Simon. Nov 17 2020, 09:28 PM
We technically have heard the earlier versions of these songs through the leak. So. That does at least take away from the annoyance a bit. But I’m certainly curious to hear what’s kinda...the official version of the songs.
Here’s the thing. If not for the leak, Geri has basically been teasing the same songs for five years. You get a little snippet in an Elmo video. You get little snippets in her baking videos. She does interviews about them. Then, when she finally claims she’s going to give you some full songs...nope. It’s yet another tease. Is she testing the water for a Spotify release? I kinda doubt it. Has she been testing the water for Spotify for the last five years?
There's going to be 13 episodes/songs. Meaning more than likely most of the songs will be ones we have heard in 2016. Fans getting upset because Geri hasn't announced a physical copy of an album to buy is ridiculous. Let's wait and see what Geri has up her sleeve.
To be fair, this version is quite different from the leaked one. I realize I just got done griping about how I like the leaked version a lot better. Lol. (What can I say...the noisier something is, the better I like it) But. Put that aside. There’s a legitimacy that comes with a more official release. This version of the song has her backing, and while I might like the earlier mix better, I genuinely do want to hear her actual vision. Who knows what stage that other version came from and if she ever intended for us to hear it like that?
I’d agree that it wasn’t right for her music to leak. But it’s perhaps also odd for her to tease songs for years upon years. I don’t think she’s trolling us. I don’t think that at all. She’s not a troll. I think she’s genuinely oblivious to how her fans are reacting to the constant teases without getting the songs in a legit form.
Anyway. I’ve been a fan this long. I’m not going anywhere. But considering how long we’ve been waiting to hear the Geri-approved versions of this material...it kinda stands to reason that some of us would think we’re not going to get it this time either...
(Also. To be clear. I have zero expectation of a new physical Geri album. I’m only looking for her to release *her* versions on YouTube)
Posted by: Alberto! Nov 18 2020, 02:40 AM
This is all well (and technically we've all got the song already), but to echo everyone - yes, this is all very randomly executed. And yes, I also don't see the point in releasing an extra video and still manage to talk over the (cut-down) song. What's the point? It's all like, so close but never getting there/giving me a proper reason to be anticipate the next episode unfortunately.
Posted by: dancinqueen Nov 18 2020, 07:00 AM
OT: Without Love is her best song ever, so haunting and beautiful. It sounds like a low key Viva Forever. Hope we’ll get a video for it.
She seemed SO nervous for the One Show interview, I know I keep repeating myself but I just can't believe this is the woman we used to know as Ginger. She did well though, although I am surprised there was not a single Spice Girls question when Mel C can't show her face anywhere without being asked about them.
Oh and the whole rainbow thing is being a bit awkward for me + first the NHS taking over the rainbow and now Geri doing a whole monologue about rainbows and not mentioning the queer community at all..
Posted by: schizo_spice Nov 18 2020, 07:35 PM
It's also a shame she didnt divulge any music release info but I can wait.
The positives, that shade of colour on her hair is amazing.
Her answer to wearing white was the biggest load of bullshit she has ever spouted and that is saying something. Was interesting to see her squirm when asked about it I think for a moment she clicked how ridiculous it is when she said 'not always' to the white question.
Posted by: dancinqueen Nov 18 2020, 08:10 PM
I highly doubt Eliot himself shared Geri's album and Song For Her with fans. More than likely someone (an intern) who worked at Kennedy's studio gave the album to Kevsie. I remember him and his friend Emma posting screenshots of their phones with the songs on them on DenDen.
Posted by: Alberto! Nov 20 2020, 02:00 AM
Intern or not it just shows shoddy confidentiality agreements and unprofessionalism, ultimately if an employee screws a client up it reflects bad on the employer so we assume that Geri/the girls have distanced themselves from Kennedy (but then again we have no evidence confirming this as neither Geri has released MOTM nor have GEM released any material. We know Geri has since recorded with the guy who produced her last 3 leaked tracks though, and that's not Kennedy).
Posted by: dachiki Nov 20 2020, 02:15 AM
If only an intern could do the same at Biffco 😂
He appears to be gay, a fan could sacrifice himself for a good cause lol
Posted by: Piers Nov 20 2020, 06:48 AM
^ I was never totally clear on how we ended up with Geri's album and Song For Her (...in terms of where the fans got it...)
I do remember how we got Kennedy's abandoned Forever tracks. Someone pretended to be Simon Fuller (or a rep for him) and tricked him into sending over the four songs.
Geri's album is a bit more complicated an issue, though. While Kennedy did produce Song For Her, Love and Light, and Man on the Mountain (...and maybe some others I don't remember), a lot of that leaked album is also work Geri did with Amy Wadge and Absolute. I guess it's plausible Kennedy would have all the material...not necessarily just his stuff.
If it really is his fault that Song For Her and the Geri album got out there...then...wow...he let a lot slip into the public in a short space of time. I guess just about the only Kennedy thing we don't have yet are the early solo Victoria tracks he supposedly did (pretty sure this was supposed to be pre-Out of Your Mind stuff).
Posted by: vibe Nov 20 2020, 07:47 AM
The fan that leaked them still gets special privileges today.
Posted by: Sideout Nov 20 2020, 04:46 PM
I would love to hear the tracks Victoria and Eliot Kennedy did together. There's 3 or 4 tracks registered if I remember correctly.
There's an unheard song on the promo clip for the next episode.
Sounds good, her voice on it is wub.gif
Posted by: schizo_spice Nov 21 2020, 01:47 PM
She was on Radio 2 with Dermot O'Leary earlier promoting the channel.
She was asked about releasing the songs and was quite vague about it but said maybe as she loves the songs and wants to share.
I get the feeling she will but doesnt want to give too much away.
New video from Geri’s Rainbow Woman series
Episode 3 - Beauty
I really wish I could understand the point of this thing besides Geri's obvious love of hearing herself talk.
It's fine. It's heartfelt. The videography is still excellent. Though. Audio issues in her interview sprang up briefly in the last video...and they're far more pronounced this time. These videos look too sharp in their production to let consistent audio glitches happen. Switch out the mic, and don't drop the ball on the gig over that.
I think the new song's really pretty, actually. I am starting to wonder if she's only going to be featuring her more inspirational tracks. The ones featured so far definitely have a certain vibe. I was kinda hoping she'd at least do a video fun enough to feature a Phenomenal Woman or something. I also kinda wonder if any of these adventures (?) would make sense to feature the excellent Without Love.
Several of her yet-to-be-released songs (this one, Love and Light, and the original mix of Man on the Mountain) remind me a lot of a song called Home by Phillip Phillips. I've wondered if that song was an influence. It was a huge hit in the US when it came out in 2012...and it still gets used in movie trailers and commercials to this day. It doesn't appear to have been an especially big hit in other parts of the world. Though. It was originally the first release of one of the American Idol winners, so there's a bit of a Simon Fuller/19 connection maybe.
Posted by: Alberto! Nov 22 2020, 06:57 PM
I also struggle to see the point of this, it's quite well done but the content itself is boring. At this point I just hope it's a means to an end (the end being somehow pushing new music in the near future).
I've stopped watching, it's just not for me. I'm not sure why on earth it is called Rainbow Woman either, it has no LGBT connotation and she is wearing white endlessly in it.
I think with "rainbow" she wants to show that there are different sides of herself. In this episode about how she's vunerable because she adopted a horse that then died during an operation.
Or something.
The video views seem to have fallen a lot for the last episode. I'm sure she has damaged herself and this project by promising music and delivering that bizarre lyric video.
On the plus side, I really like the song. I typically like her stuff, but this one probably ranks among the top 5 of her post-Passion stuff for me.
But. Y'know. I do find it aggressively annoying that the song's clearly cut down and she's talking over it about things like...her husband's cat allergy (...yes, really).
I really like her. She can wear white all she wants as far as I'm concerned. If she wants to be regal, cool with me. But honestly. Teasing songs forever but never delivering is a genuine problem for her. The comments section of her videos is basically being overwhelmed by people fighting over this issue. If the primary response to this Youtube channel is arguments among the fanbase on how the songs are presented...something needs to get fixed. If there was a clear plan to get the real songs out there, then cool. I'd roll with the teases. But there's not. And after nine years of her sometimes teasing a new album, I think it's a little naive at this point to expect her to actually deliver anything she's teasing.
That's the thing people hoping or being positive she will release the songs at the end clearly haven't learned from the last zillion years.
The views are incredibly low for the last 3 videos (2 lyrics and 'beauty') I think she has completely put anyone off and destroyed the goodwill people had towards the project at the start.
It's just frustrating because if she actually laid out what her plan was for all of this I think it would be a lot more positivity around this - as it is it just comes across as her waffling on about random stuff with songs from her vault that she won't even release in full on YouTube. I'm not surprised that the views seem to have fallen off a cliff (from around 100k for the first few videos to not even 10k); if nobody knows what's the point of all this why even watch? It's like she's so afraid to fail that she won't even tell her plans for this project so that she can quietly pull the plug if she feels like it.
So there is a song called Rainbow Woman.
A fun little pop bop biggrin.gif
Really enjoyed that episode, her personality really shone through.
Posted by: Piers Nov 29 2020, 04:09 PM
I thought this episode was cute...though her stepping on her kids' toys and burning the toast was pretty staged. lol.
Two songs pop up this week. Both Deep Down and a new one I haven't heard yet (but sounds pretty good). I'm assuming the second one will be the new Tuesday Hangover.
I do think there continues to be something of a missed opportunity in not having her family as characters. Geri's not reacting to much of anyone in these, and I think it'd be funnier if she were. Like...having her mom walking along like "Geri! Are you mad?! You're a terrible driver! You're going to drive a tank?!" And later...see Monty react in real time as his mom crushes cars under the tank wheels.
Personally, I'd also ditch the forlorn piano music at the end for this one. It fit with the horse story. But here? It's crushing cars with tanks. A few of these should be straight up fun, I think. So. There's my worthless opinion for her crew.
Posted by: Piers Nov 29 2020, 09:06 PM
Oh. I just realized she posted her hangover today instead of Tuesday. It's Rainbow Woman.
I like it. The lyrics are quite pretty.
Of course, her talking all over it and cutting the song down is supremely annoying. But. I've talked about all that enough. I'll shut it.
Anyone know when these newest songs came about and who she's worked with for them? I assume Traveling Light and Rainbow Woman are from some post-Hallelujah sessions? She seemed to be going a different direction with Hallelujah and Keep on Dreaming...but Traveling Light/Rainbow Woman sound to me like the kind of stuff that fits quite well with her Man on the Mountain material.
Posted by: sammy01 Nov 29 2020, 09:33 PM
I only listened to the 'lyric' video of Rainbow Woman. It's actually a fairly clever interesting song. The production is awful though, it's so sparse and it leaves Geri's voice too exposed. It needs beefing up and going harder.
She really has an uphill battle with this now it seems to have died a death views wise. She has had decent promo, The one show, radio 2, OCC article, tabloid reporting on it. With all that the videos from last week are under 8k views. At this point why is she even bothering?
Posted by: Mr.X Dec 5 2020, 09:57 PM
I gave it a try but it's not my cup of tea so havent bothered with the new episodes...
Posted by: schizo_spice Dec 6 2020, 02:11 PM
This weeks track was another leaked one, Hallelujah which she did with Ryan Louder. Her vocal sounds fantastic on this.
Really enjoyed the video clip too and seeing more of her relationship with Bluebell who has grown into a smart, sassy young lady. smile.gif
Posted by: Piers Dec 6 2020, 04:16 PM
This one's actually my favorite of the videos so far. I've felt all along that Geri needed other personalities to bounce off of...and this video proves it. The interactions with Bluebell and Monte sell this video better than the ones that have come before. Bluebell should be in all of these (...and I'd add her mom too).
Before this video, I never totally grasped the significance of Geri's past eating disorders...contrasted with her interest in baking today. It's an interesting personal journey. I wouldn't have expected a video about baking to be more interesting than climbing a mountain or driving a tank...but here we are.
I'll complain less about the lyric video this time. Of course, Hallelujah is one we've heard before, but unlike the Man on the Mountain tracks, I've never considered it a leak. Her co-writer/producer uploaded the song to Youtube years ago with Geri's approval...so this one's always felt more legitimate. And I've always liked the song too.
I wonder why they decided to move the lyric videos to Sunday rather than Tuesday....
Posted by: Blond 2.0 Dec 6 2020, 05:01 PM
This is cute and all but what's the point
Posted by: sammy01 Dec 6 2020, 06:08 PM
Hallelujah is one of her best recent solo songs as it has much fuller and richer production which helps her vocals seem less exposed and raw.
I'm not even watching the other video of her baking because I just don't care.
TERROR TARGET
Geri Halliwell reveals nail bomber planned to kill her on stage at the Brits for being pals with George Michael
GERI Halliwell has revealed she was targeted by the Admiral Duncan nail bomber who planned to assassinate her on stage at the Brits.
Ahead of her first solo performance, the Spice Girl was formally warned by police not to perform - but fearlessly refused to pull-out.
Cops intercepted plans by homophobic terrorist David Copeland, jailed for life in 2000, to shoot Geri live on stage because she was “friends with George Michael”.
The singer says: “It was before my first ever performance as a solo artist that he issued me with a death threat.
“He threatened to shoot me, and hated the fact I hung out with the gays, and was friends with George Michael.
“He hated me for camping it up, for loving the gays and for being friends with George. I told him to do one.
“Scotland Yard were involved, and the police had to come round to my house, to warn me officially.
“They said they had to give me the freedom to choose whether I performed or not, but that they advised me to pull out of the ceremony.
“But I said 'I'm sorry, I'm not going to be bullied by this'.
“We are judged by what we do, not what we say - and I will always stand with my friends.
"It's about spirit, not sexuality - I feel so protective of any person who has had prejudice against them."
The brave star went on to perform memorably at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, belting out Bag It Up, flanked by a suitably camp gaggle of glitter-covered back-up dancers.
Cops, and extra security, were called in on the night, off the back of Geri’s death threat.
Refusing to be kowtowed, she gamely emerged on stage from the top of a grand staircase, strategically positioned between a pair of giant inflatable legs.
Geri, 48, was famously best pals with the late superstar, and even named her young son, Montague George, after the singer.
The Wham! frontman, who died on Christmas Day four years ago, supported Geri after she quit the Spice Girls in 1998.
David Copeland was given six life sentences in June 2000 for three counts of murder and three counts of causing explosions in London in order to endanger life.
During 13 days in April 1999, he caused explosions in Brixton, south London, Brick Lane in east London and Soho, central London.
The final blast - containing 1500 nails - went off at the gay pub the Admiral Duncan and killed Andrea Dykes, 27, who was pregnant, and friends John Light, 32, and Nik Moore, 31, from Essex.
He was tried at the Old Bailey in 2000 for murder after the prosecution refused to accept his plea of guilty to manslaughter on the grounds that he was suffering a mental illness - paranoid schizophrenia.
In 2011 he lost his appeal to reduce his minimum jail term of 50 years.
~
She's also been asked about her love for wearing white, again:
When we meet, Geri is dressed head to toe in her trademark white.
Over the past 15 months, it has become her signature sartorial look.
“My wardrobe is like looking at the French Alps - a vast expanse of white,” she laughs.
“I have gone through stages of wearing all black but then I just thought, well, I quite like cream and white.
“Then I started buying more and more of it, and if you start buying something in any one colour, it becomes one less thing to think about. I really recommend it to anyone - it's really easy.
“Everything becomes really simple. I like the colour, and it's like wearing a school uniform as an adult.
“It matches with everything and I literally don’t have to think in the mornings. It's great for busy people - it kind of looks like you've made an effort when you haven't.”
Her dry cleaning bill, she insists, “is not so bad”.
This week's video is nice. She's delivering presents to frontline healthcare workers who are treating COVID patients. Two thoughts.
Firstly...a little unusual she's driving around in a Rainbow Woman van. The logo's nice enough and everything...but. Why does it need a van? I guess it'd make more sense to me if Rainbow Woman was some clothing brand (that's what the logo looks like to me). But as a logo just promoting a YouTube page? Well. Okay. Maybe her crew carries their equipment around in it?
Secondly, I got kinda hung up on wanting to know what she was delivering to everybody. All we ever see are their wrapped packages she's dropping off. So. It's kinda like...what did you get everyone? Why, "presents"! Um. Oh.
The video's nice enough, though. I like it better than the skiing video from last week. My initial thought about the series was that it'd be about Geri challenging herself with new things. But I've come to realize she's actually just doing a showcase of existing hobbies. And some of that (the skiing) can come off a bit mundane. But. Look. Giving the spotlight to frontline healthcare workers is always a positive. Seems like I Got A Name will be the song of the week.
I think this is pretty much the biggest issue with the entire thing - what exactly is the point? The videos are well-produced and all, but is this entire project just to promote her YouTube page? If that's the case she might as well do mukbangs since I'm sure that would bring more casual viewers than her showcasing her hobbies.
On the other hand, Geri getting a "Rainbow Woman" van is just such a Geri thing to do. Nice to see Ginger is still alive in there, somewhere.
If the ultimate aim of this is to have a successful YouTube channel she is failing. If it is to get excitement for her solo music she is also failing having pissed loads of fans off with the roll out of not full talked over 'lyric' videos.
If the aim is to have fun and to show her grandiose life now well she us fulfilling that but I can't help feel that's not doing her any good in terms of the perception of her.
Posted by: schizo_spice Dec 21 2020, 11:44 AM
I'm really enjoying the videos and how she weaves the music into them. Some are quirky, some thought provoking and some experimental/outside the box.
Its clearly just a passion project for her overall. No her subs and views aren't amazing but they are slowly and steadily rising and she has a dedicated group of fans who seem to enjoy whats coming next.
But I think the Thank You video shows why Our Chica Latina needs a bunch of girls to balance her out.
Just seen the video and f*** me, what a way to be condescending to people who have put their own lives on the line to save us all and have been mistreated by the Government. She, a multi-millionair popstar, made it all about herself...
I would have shoved the present in her face tbh
Calm down dear.
She means well... but she's just Geri at heart. They were called Spice Girls for a reason; spices tend to balance each other out. And well... here Geri needed the other spices.
She doesnt mean well when all she is doing is inflating her own ego whilst using real heroes in a pandemic as props. Seriously derranged.
Posted by: Jay* Dec 22 2020, 10:23 AM
I honestly thinks she means well and her heart is in the right place, but she lacks self awareness about how she would come across. Geri always has a tendency to make things about herself (and to be fair this is her YouTube channel and series).
Could she at least wear a mask? SMH
This too. Everyone else wears a mask, why cant she, specially in front of FRONT LINE STAFF!! blink.gif
But, she is a tory, so what to expect?...
I love the videos.
She comes across so well and likeable. The fans are obviously doing too much again on this thread but hey what's new?
Sure, it would be great for her to wear a mask but some of the comments here are a bit harsh.
She's giving you a content. Some of the girl-bands members won't even bother to do that smh.
Has she ever been seen wearing a face mask in public?
Posted by: sammy01 Dec 22 2020, 08:30 PM
She hasn't been seen in anything not white in 2 years, a mask doesn't fit her new persona.
Over one million people have died. Those who are famous, icons or influential should do the right thing. It's not even that hard.
This is exactly how I feel! I am sure she is doing it with the good intentions, but it does seem to revolve around herself. I never really understand this with celebrities in general, and it's not just Geri, if you want to do something good, just do it. There is no need to film it or post about it.
I agree with this. The bit that is annoying me is that she yarn wearing a mask (and neither are they). I mean I’ve had to go to neurology to see consultants and for MRI scans over the last few months and it’s been such a battle getting people to remove their masks when I am profoundly deaf and rely on lip reading to understand. I’ve not been allowed someone with me either. Yet here they are mask free taking gifts, having their photo taken wtf??
And now Geri's bonding with an elephant.
Naturally.
What's weird is that the new episode includes the song Hallelujah again, and the video info/caption also mention the lyric video for the song will be released. But a lyric video for Hallelujah was already posted just weeks ago as it had been included in another previous episode..? confused.gif
Posted by: sammy01 Jan 3 2021, 05:49 PM
You seem to expect any of this to make sense and it not just be Geri massaging her ego and showing off her amazing life.
Posted by: tommie Jan 3 2021, 05:56 PM
Stunningly amazing - only rabid All Saints fans would claim otherwise! wub.gif
I thought that was odd too. Also odd she'd choose to reuse one of the only of her new songs that we have through a legitimate means...and not a leak. Maybe she'll reuse a few songs and just cut out/talk over different parts of it this time?
I do wish it were a new song every week just because she hasn't done a showcase of a few of her stronger unreleased tracks...namely Without Love, Deep Down, Back in Business (if she didn't throw that in the trash heap), and Phenomenal Woman. I feel Phenomenal Woman may be too lively for the rather subdued Geri of this YouTube page. But it'd be wonderfully bonkers if she'd do that song over video of an elephant.
Anyway. This week's video. It's fine. Some of the these remind me a lot of little lifestyle shows I see on local TV stations. The host goes on a series of adventures and might cook something or visit an animal or whatever. Those shows are typically just showcases for their sponsors, though...and I'm not sure who watches them...outside of...y'know...nursing homes.
Her numbers have really dropped. Starting out with 120K views...and now at around 2K. I feel she might liven things up if she were to do the same kinds of live fan Q and As that Melanie C does.
Geri's teaching English to primary school children on Tuesday as part of CBBC's lockdown education schedule... laugh.gif
Posted by: sammy01 Jan 8 2021, 09:42 PM
I'm sure the kids will be like 'who is this old lady is she the Queen?' Because Geri will be dressed in white. Though Geri would probably like them thinking she is royalty.
Posted by: Mr.X Jan 8 2021, 10:30 PM
Im glad she is doing it - good for her. The BBC should have been doing that since the beginning of lockdown back in March/April as schools are shut and in the UK over 1million kids in poverty dont have access to wifi to attend online classes.
Posted by: Jay❄ Jan 9 2021, 12:30 AM
Mrs Horner the English teacher! *.* Lol I might watch it, it could be cute. For the kids who it is actually intended for, this is great!
