Vote for your favourite T20 track that should have gone T10.

Posted by: slowdown73 21st February 2021, 04:36 PM

I’ve just realised I missed off where the wild roses grow. Don’t know how to add it on?

Posted by: Liam.k. 21st February 2021, 04:46 PM

^ Added it in for you!

Posted by: slowdown73 21st February 2021, 07:04 PM

Thanks, Liam. I don’t think I’ve missed anything else off!

Posted by: slowdown73 21st February 2021, 07:05 PM

This was a tough choice. I voted for put yourself in my place but what kind of fool is also a contender.

Get outta my way

Posted by: spiceboy 21st February 2021, 07:52 PM

Where the wild roses grow for me, it's such an excellent track!

Posted by: Chemistry 21st February 2021, 08:07 PM

Get Outta My Way, still seems strange how this missed top 10 as it was off the back of a big hit, felt very current and everyone seemed to love it.

Posted by: McAndrew 21st February 2021, 09:07 PM

So many of these deserved better. But I think the real travesty, for me, was Into The Blue. As a lead single, it was perfect. An obvious stand-out on the album.

With a more conceptual, more impactful video, it could have garnered more attention. It was all a bit too subtle.

Posted by: aeroco 21st February 2021, 10:04 PM

ITB, followed closely by GOOMW.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 21st February 2021, 11:50 PM

Should I be basing this on my favourite or which one I think was the most unlucky/unfairly robbed?

'Get Outta My Way' is my favourite. I wish it had been a Top 10 but they left it far too late to push it as a single.

The release of 'Into the Blue' was a huge mess. I remember the single version of the track, which was just outside the Top 10 at the time, was deleted on iTunes which meant the album, which was bottom of the Top 40, had to climb up the chart, although it never managed to get back up to where the single version was. This possibly cost it a Top 10 placing, as the song was #7 in the midweeks.

I also don't understand why the promo for the song came after release week (Sports Relief two weeks later, The Voice UK three weeks, Graham Norton four weeks!).

The song was also unfortunately to be released on a busy week, but is it really fair that Enrique Iglesias' 'I'm a Freak', Flo Rida's 'How I Feel' and Pixie Lott's 'Nasty' outsold it?!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 22nd February 2021, 05:15 PM

Parlophone struggled or messed up with every kylie single after all the lovers which also had bleeps in its release aswell, into the blue missed out on going top 10 becuase of it aswell.

Posted by: VVV 24th February 2021, 12:42 PM

My favourite song here is Into the Blue, I didn't know about the whole iTunes mess, it's a real shame if that did cost it a better position. However, I voted for Get Outta My Way since I think it's the one that should have been a top 10 the most: it feels by far the most iconic song on the list and it's still so remembered that it's just weird that it wasn't a top 10 smash. It streams better than All the Lovers and I think the two songs have similar recognition, so it would be nice for it to have been a #5 hit or around.

Posted by: Envoirment 24th February 2021, 01:08 PM

So many great choices but will have to go with "Get Outta My Way" followed closely by "Into The Blue". I thought the former would've been an easy top 10 following on from "All The Lovers"!

Posted by: Liam.k. 24th February 2021, 01:26 PM

'Get Outta My Way' should have been pushed in August, but instead we had a six week gap between her performance on Alan Carr: Chatty Man in mid-July and the music video release, then another three weeks until the physical which took us to the very end of September. I think Parlophone were still living in the early-00s and hadn't worked out how to manage Kylie post-album releases in the digital age.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 24th February 2021, 02:10 PM

I think also it came around the point in 2010 when physical CD singles became less readily available in shops, at that point she was starting to struggle on downloads with singles that were post-album so she really relied on those (similar to what happened with 'In My Arms').

Posted by: Liam.k. 24th February 2021, 02:16 PM

Yeah definitely, I just think a tighter promo schedule would helped a lot. She was Top 10 in the mids after all - perhaps if the song had the momentum behind it, it would have held on.

Get Outta My Way

Brilliant Song

Stick it on Disco Extended Edition and it would not feel out of place smile.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 24th February 2021, 05:09 PM

I kinda thought get outta my way would walk this and it is, not my pick at all but totally see why people love it.

Posted by: Dannyboy 24th February 2021, 08:25 PM

Get outta my way ? Really ?

It’s ok but so overrated for me. I would much prefer Put yourself in my place or Finer Feelings, even What kind of fool which is underrated.

Good to see im not the only one that thinks its overrated.

I think into the blue was no9 initially in the midweeks but fell later in the week.

It was #7 in the first midweek update (Tuesday)! It was #7 on the Wednesday update, which I think was the day the top version was deleted.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd March 2021, 01:02 AM

I am actually gonna go with 'Into The Blue', not because it's my favourite but because of how that deletion from iTunes undoubtedly cost it a top 10 place and it was beaten by some absolute trash that week.

Posted by: pippa 3rd March 2021, 01:37 AM

Into the Blue was screwed out of going Top 10.
The others lost out fair and square.

Posted by: Liam.k. 3rd March 2021, 09:57 AM

Not that it counted towards the official chart at this point, but I've had a look at the streaming chart around the time 'Into the Blue' was released. The week after it debuted at #12, it entered the streaming chart at #71, which was higher than three of the four new entries that debuted higher than it on the official chart the week previously:

Official Chart: w/e 22 March 2014
01 (NE) DVBBS & Borgeous feat. Tinie Tempah - Tsunami (Jump)
04 (NE) Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull - I'm a Freak
08 (NE) Flo Rida - How I Feel
09 (NE) Pixie Lott - Nasty
12 (NE) Kylie Minogue - Into the Blue
14 (NE) Christina Perri - Human

Streaming Chart: w/e 29 March 2014
50 (NE) Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull - I'm a Freak
71 (NE) Kylie Minogue - Into the Blue
79 (NE) Pixie Lott - Nasty
92 (NE) Christina Perri - Human
N/A DVBBS & Borgeous feat. Tinie Tempah - Tsunami (Jump)
N/A Flo Rida - How I Feel

Not that it would have been a Top 10 hit if streaming was included in the official chart (it would probably be much lower) but I just thought it was interesting Kylie was more popular on streaming than 3/4 of the new entries that were higher on sales.

Also pretty amazing to think Kylie once featured on the streaming chart outside of Christmas!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd March 2021, 10:10 AM

Sales for that week:

1 DVBBS & Borgeous/ Tinie Tempah 80,476
2 Route 94/ Jess Glynne 75,146 (195,916)
3 Pharrell Williams 45,130
4 Enrique Iglesias/ Pitbull 44,982
5 Clean Bandit/ Jess Glynne 39,125 (692,235)
6 John Legend 38,538
7 Katy Perry/ Juicy J 36,928
8 Flo Rida 36,741
9 Pixie Lott 30,812
10 Sam Smith 30,801 (242,195)

11 A Great Big World/ Christina Aguilera 26,126 (166,542)
12 Kylie Minogue 25,656
13 Tiësto 21,176 (89,809)
14 Christina Perri 20,812
15 Lily Allen 18,005 (48,998)
17 The Chainsmokers 17,506
18 Coldplay 15,929 (42,584)

So, she was a good 5,000 away from the top 10 but I still think that could have been overcome without that iTunes mistake.

Posted by: Liam.k. 3rd March 2021, 10:17 AM

Certainly would have been higher if she had any promo on release week.

Posted by: pippa 7th March 2021, 07:03 PM

The iTunes mistake would have taken it to the Top 10 had the error not occured.

Posted by: Jay❄ 7th March 2021, 08:14 PM

We'll never know for sure... but she sold 83.29% of the #10 - would the iTunes error really have eaten into almost 1/5th of her sales potential? I'm sure she was definitely robbed of the arguably more frustrating #11, given that that was only 470 sales. Top 10 with a 5k+ deficit might have been a tall order though. I think there was an element of frontloaded-ness at play with Into the Blue too, even if the deletion hadn't happened.

Interesting to know she streamed relatively well though! Queen of streaming!

GOMW

Posted by: pippa 7th March 2021, 11:05 PM

Kylie's promotion for a lead single wasn't as strong for Into The Blue.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 8th March 2021, 02:56 PM

It's a shame it missed the top 10 as it was her last real chance of having another top 10.

Posted by: pippa 8th March 2021, 07:40 PM

It was that and a missed opportunity.
Overall, Kiss Me Once era underperformed.

Posted by: slowdown73 15th March 2021, 05:59 PM

I agree with the comments here that the iTunes deletion must have played a big role in the track losing T10 status by the end of the week. It’s a shame as it’s a great track that deserved to do better than it actually did!

Posted by: CJK 15th March 2021, 07:25 PM

Into The Blue

Great track

Posted by: pippa 15th March 2021, 08:43 PM

Kylie needs to add Into the Blue on her next tour.
It's tour exposure is low.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 15th March 2021, 08:46 PM

I'll be surprised if anything from that album gets added to a tour setlist again, maybe a piece of 'Into The Blue' might one day as a part of a medley or something but that's the most I can see.

Posted by: pippa 15th March 2021, 08:51 PM

That is a likely outcome and Crystallized will likely never achieve a tour performance.

Posted by: Liam.k. 18th March 2021, 05:59 PM

I could see 'Into the Blue' being one of those songs that gets performed accapella as a one off on tour. I'd love it to be properly included on a setlist though, it's too good to be forgotten about.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th March 2021, 06:29 PM

Its a song that could end up aon a future anti tour if one happens again.

Posted by: ___∆___ 23rd April 2021, 07:53 AM

So many iconic songs - still pains me that PYIMP missed out, it’s such a sublime song and deserved to be huge but following on from CIM it seemed the public were starting to struggle to adjust to new Kylie at the time

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd April 2021, 10:07 AM

It was def a time people struggled with kylie and to an extent it was the like that from the off with de con, while confide in me did well I think people still werent fully sold on the new kylie, it didnt help that her popularity had wained in her closing pwl days either as let's get to it singles and what kind of fool all had such mixed sounds and I think the variation confused people. Thankfully in terms of success it all came right again with Light Years but those intervening years looking back were needed as it all led to Kylie exploding all over again.

Posted by: pippa 23rd April 2021, 11:52 AM

There was a 10 year period where Kylie struggled with herself as an artist but it took those struggles for Kylie to identify where she wanted to fit in the industry.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd April 2021, 01:39 PM

At the time i didn't see it that way but looking back it def was the way, the lets get to it singles alone were all so different to each other and for me a big step back in quality from the excellent singles from rhythm of love. What kind of fool as much as i like was a step back for Kylie sound wise as it was closer to the material on her debut and enjoy yourself but maybe that was deliberate from pwl to try and recapture the sound that had done so well but it didn't really connect with people outside the fanbase which is a shame as its good pop song, celebration was a lazy cover but i understand why it was picked, im assuming it was to celebrate the great success kylie and pwl had achieved together. Confide in in me was a complete change in direction and it did its job as in showcasing Kylie has gone in a whole new direction but again i dont think its what the general public wanted from Kylie, Put Yourself in my place is stunning and its a shame it missed the top 10 but it had a good chart run and has sold well enough, again at the time i liked put yourself in my place but didn't love it, its probably one of kylies tracks that i have really changed from opinion on with time the most as i really like the song now.
The journey to its credit is huge, if you look back at the music from her debut right through to Where the wild roses grow the variety is huge, the sounds had more variety than a pick n mix from woolworths and i mean that in a complimentary way. Light Years up to Disco has also seen many different sounds but i think all those album tie slightly more together than her debut through to impossible princess. But for me its why i love Kylie, she knows how to change things up to remain interesting and successful.

Posted by: pippa 25th April 2021, 12:27 PM

There is a uniqueness to Kylie's back catalogue due to its variety and her hunger to keep trying new sounds while largely always keeping it Kylie.

Posted by: Warwick Avenue 2nd May 2021, 09:55 AM

Breathe, but could’ve easily gone for another four songs.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 2nd May 2021, 01:47 PM

I still long for that kygo and kylie breathe release, it has so much potential for something like that to happen with someone like kygo or someone else.
