Dexton's Top 20 (10/10/2017) (Week 22)
Entering at #1 this week is JP Cooper & Stormzy's collaboration Momma's Prayers from JP Cooper's newly released album, Raised Under Grey Skies, which also enters my album chart at #1 this week. September Song was a personal favourite of mine (a would-be personal chart #1 if my chart was being ran back then), as goes for his 2016 feature on Jonas Blue's Perfect Strangers. Dethroned from the top spot again, and likely for the last time, we have Portugal. The Man's Feel It Still at #2. At #3 we have Lauv's I Like Me Better which climbs for a fifth week now, followed by Alan Walker's The Spectre at #3 and Marshmello's Silence featuring Khalid at #5. Notable climbs to new peaks outside the top 5 come from Zayn's Dusk Till Dawn featuring Sia (9-6), Alma & French Montana's Phases (13-8), Danny L Harle's 1UL (12-9), Bastille's Basket Case (14-12), and Miley Cyrus' Younger Now (18-16). Alma & French Montana each score themselves their second top 10 hit with Phases, and French Montana goes even further to grab himself his third top 10 hit this week with Stefflon Don's Hurtin' Me at #10. Dua Lipa finally exits the top 10 (10-13) after eleven consecutive weeks, one of which spent at #1. Before the brilliance of New Rules came Wale's My Love featuring Major Lazer, Wizkid, and of course Dua Lipa which peaked and debuted here at #3. Also leaving the top 10 is The Killers for a second time with Run For Cover (7-14) and Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso's Let Me Go featuring Florida Georgia Line & Watt (8-17). Disciples return to the chart this week with new single Jealousy at #15, hoping to follow in the success of their previous single On My Mind which reached #1 here many, many weeks ago. Kygo also returns with Stargazing featuring Justin Jesso at #19. Stargazing didn't interest me incredibly when I first heard it on Kygo's EP, however for some reason after hearing it on the radio last week it's decided to grow on me a lot and is now charting. Over in the album chart we have The Killers holding on to their latest album Wonderful Wonderful for a third week, whilst JP Cooper's Raised Under Grey Skies enters at #2. It was a close race between these two albums for #1 this week with The Killers only just coming out on top, although with a relatively slow-looking album week next week could JP Cooper possibly dethrone The Killers? Dexton's Top 20 (17/10/2017) (Week 23)
A #1 for Lauv! Quickly dethroning JP Cooper & Stormzy is Lauv with I Like Me Better (3-1) who climbs to the top position after 6 weeks in the top 10. Lauv also makes a second appearance at #1 on DJ Snakes new A Different Way. A Different Way is a DJ Snake song if ever I've heard one, and on the complete other end of the spectrum comes JP Cooper & Stormzy's Momma's Prayers down two at #3. Zayn's Dusk Till Dawn featuring Sia & Stefflon Don & French Montana's Hurtin' Me both enter the top 5 at #4 and #5 respectively. French Montana grabs his second top 5 hit after Unforgettable, which made #3 in June. New entries to the top 10 come from Robin Schulz with Oh Child at #7, Disciples with Jealousy at #9, and Bastille with Basket Case at #10. Oh Child was a highlight for me from Robin Schulz's latest album and has grown on me signifcantly more than any other album track. Disciples gain a second top 10 hit after On My Mind made it to #1 long ago, can Jealousy follow suit? Cheat Codes' Feels Great featuring Fetty Wap & CVBZ enters at #11 this week, sounding very 2016 (to me anyway, if 'sounding 2016' is even a thing) which could very well just be due to Fetty Wap let's be honest. I much prefer this to No Promises and the Cheat Code x Cade remix of Maggie Lindemann's Pretty Girl. The latter of which peaked at #11 on my chart. Post Malone also makes his entry to the chart as a lead artist with Rockstar featuring 21 Savage, a song which came out of absolutely no where and took the world by storm. Rockstar has so far reached #1 in 14 different countries, will it make it there on my personal chart in the future? The rest of the singles chart is relatively quiet, Kygo's Stargazing featuring Justin Jesso is the only remaining climber (19-13) and Dua Lipa spends her 13th week on my chart - however at just #19 she may drop out next week New Rules is the longest running song on the chart at the moment, with The Killers' Run For Cover closely behind spending a total of 12 weeks here. Both of these songs could very well leave us next week! Over in the album chart we see JP Cooper overtake The Killers to claim his first #1 album, and Pink's latest LP Beautiful Trauma enters at #4. The lead single from Beautiful Trauma, What About Us, made it to #5 on my chart not too long ago however didn't last long. I've long been a fan of Pink although, unlike on her previous albums, nothing from Beautiful Trauma has really blown me away so far. Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 20 (24/10/2017) (Week 24)
Let You Down at #1, but which one? A different #1 for a fifth week in a row now, with NF's Let You Down debuting at the top spot in the chart. Let You Down is an amazing song that is currently rising up Spotify, coming for future UK chart success. It's success here has only just begun. DJ Snake's A Different Way featuring Lauv holds on tight to #2 for a second week whilst Lauv's solo single I Like Me Better drops from the top (1-3). Zayn is also sticking where he is for another week whilst Portugal. The Man's Feel It Still climbs back into the top 5 (6-5). Feel It Still is my 14th most played track of 2017 and is truly a favourite of mine. In terms of most played, my top 15 songs of this year also contains the likes of Camila Cabello's Havana, Disciples' On My Mind, The Killers' The Man, and Dua Lipa's New Rules as well as some non-charting songs like Blossoms' Blown Rose and Major Lazer's Know No Better. Surprisingly, a second Let You Down enters my chart this week, Peking Duk featuring Icona Pop at #7. Peking Duk previously made it to #1 with their collaboration with AlunaGeorge, Fake Magic. Will Let You Down be able to reach #1 in the future? Possibly becoming both Peking Duk's second #1 single, and becoming the second #1 song on my chart to be called Let You Down Further down the chart, Camelphat & Elderbrook's house hit Cola enters at #17 after entering the official UK Top 25 last Friday as the third new entry this week. With Let You Down x2 and Cola entering, we see two long-runners drop out of the Top 20. Dua Lipa's New Rules spent a whopping 13 weeks in the chart, 11 of which were in the Top 10! The Killer's Run For Cover (20-xx) and Lorde's Homemade Dynamite featuring Khalid, SZA, & Post Malone (17-xx) are also out. There are no new entries to the album chart this week, resulting in both JP Cooper's Raised Under Grey Skies (1-1) and The Killers' Wonderful Wonderful (2-2) holding the Top 2 on lock. NF and JP Cooper at the top again! NF's Let You Down holds on to #1 for a second week with no intention of slowing down. NF also entered the UK Top 40 last week and is shooting up Spotify - a future officia Top 10 hit maybe? Meanwhile, Selena Gomez & Marshmello are the highest new entry this week at #2 - becoming Marshmello's second Top 2 hit after Silence topped the chart in September. DJ Snake's A Different Way featuring Lauv falls to #3 and two weeks at #2, with Lauv's solo effort also falling (3-5). Camelphat & Elderbrook enter the Top 5 with the biggest climb in my chart (17-4) since Portugal. The Man also shot up the chart from #17, but to #1. Charlie Puth makes his first appearance on my chart with How Long? at #7. His previous single Attention failed to chart here, despite being Charlie's best output (until How Long). Four more new songs enter the chart this week further down as MK's 17 enters at #14, Daya's New at #17, MØ's When I Was Young at #19, and T2's Piece Of Me featuring Gia at #20. Dexton's Top 20 (07/11/2017) (Week 26)
Maroon 5! For a third week in a row, becoming the third song to hold on to #1 ever, NF's Let You Down stands strong up on top. Meanwhile, there's two new entries to the Top 5 as Charlie Puth's How Long? climbs to #4, and Maroon 5 & Julia Michaels' Help Me Out enters the chart at #5. The release of Maroon 5's album has reignited a love for the band previously thought lost as their musical style altered dramatically. Despite being quite different to their previous efforts, I've actually grown very fond of Red Pill Blues and I'm now seeing the singles (which weren't doing much for me initially) in a whole new light. Also climbing to new peaks this week is MK's 17 (14-7), MØ's When I Was Young (19-11), and T2's Piece Of Me featuring Gia (20-13). New entries come from Clean Bandit and Alan Walker at #16 and #20 respectively. Clean Bandit's newest single, I Miss You featuring Julia Michaels, is the electronic groups third song to chart here following Symphony (which peaked at #15) and Disconnect (which peaked at #1 for two weeks). Could Clean Bandit capture a second #1 in the coming weeks, becoming the first artist to ever reach #1 on my chart more than once? Or will Selena Gomez & Marshmello beat Clean Julia to the punch and score Marshmello his second #1 single after Silence featuring Khalid? Over in the album chart we see a few new faces as the Top 5 expands to become a Top 10. Welcoming three new entries in Maroon 5, Kygo, and Gorillaz, as well as two re-entries of Avicii and Robin Schulz. Maroon 5's Red Pill Blues enters at #1, boasting singles like What Lovers Do and Don't Wanna Know, as well as album gems such as Help Me Out, Visions, and Wait. Kygo's Kids In Love enters at #6, a feat which is unlikely to happen anywhere officially following a messy (to say the least) album promotional campaign. Gorillaz' latest album Humanz was released back in April and has been an absolute favourite of mine all year - and now with the release of the Super Deluxe version it finally enters my chart! Dexton's Top 20 (14/11/2017) (Week 27)
High new entries from Rita Ora, Stormzy, & Eminem! Rita Ora's newest single Anywhere enters at #1 this week, becoming Rita's third Top 2 hit after Your Song & Lonely Together each peaked at #2. This is her first time on top after being held from #1 by Bakermat in June and more recently Avicii in August. Selena Gomez & Marshmello are holding on tight to the #2 position for a third week in a row as NF's Let You Down falls from grace (1-3). For the first time since the beginning of this chart we see three new entries to the Top 5, as Stormzy & Eminem finish off a rather urban Top 5. Blinded By Your Grace featuring MNEK & Walk On Water featuring Beyoncé also coincidentally both reference religious themes - something I didn't realise until writing this Grabbing his third Top 10 hit this week is Lauv with his latest single Easy Love, the follow-up to I Like Me Better which was #1 here not long ago. Lauv has announced a brand new single to come out this friday, so I'd expect to see that enter next week considering how I've become quite the Lauv fan as of recent. Taylor Swift's Reputation was released Friday and actually surprised me. I listened to the album out of curiosity; Look What You Made Me Do spent one week on my chart when it was first released at just #18, but after that I wasn't too interested in her. Then more recently Gorgeous has been played literally every day at work and swayed me over to the Swifty side. End Game featuring Future & Ed Sheeran and ...Ready For It? enter at #15 & #18 respectively this week whilst her album comes in at #2 on the album chart. Other album tracks I'd 'recommend' from Reputation include I Did Something Bad and the Flume-sounding Don't Blame Me. Dexton's Top 20 (21/11/2017) (Week 28)
Triple Lauv? Standing strong in the top spot is Rita Ora's Anywhere for a second consecutive week, her third Top 2 hit here which is quickly establishing Rita as one of my charts most successful artists. Similarily, Lauv enters the Top 5 for a third time with Easy Outside the Top 5 we have three new entries this week coming from the likes of Luis Fonsi & Demi Lovato, Lauv (again?!), and God's Favourite Band - Green Day. Luis Fonsi makes his first chart entry since the infectious Despacito debuted at #1 right at the very beginning of my weekly Top 20 chart. Will Échame La Culpa match Despacito's peak in a few weeks? Lauv's new single Paris In The Rain enters (#13) the chart this week in what is strangely his lowest debut entry. Green Day's newest song Back In The USA from their album Greatest Hits: God's Favourite Band enters at #19, whilst the album itself tops the album chart - but more on that later. Climbing into the Top 10 are Clean Bandit's I Miss You featuring Julia Michaels (14-9) and Taylor Swift's ... Ready For It? (18-10). Clean Bandit previously held the #1 position with their long-awaited collaboration Disconnect with Marina & The Diamonds. I Miss You is looking unlikely to match Disconnect's peak, although Top 5 could be on the horizon. I was initially underwhelmed by this track however it has grown on me a lot lately and has hyped me up for CB2. A coincidentally similar case goes for ...Ready For It? which I actually didn't like when it was first released. Since Reputation was released though I've had the album on repeat (at least the first half, anyway) and ...Ready For It? is definately a grower. Over in the album chart we have Green Day scoring their first #1 album with Greatest Hits: God's Favourite Band, a greatest hits album (obviously) with a new track and new remix of a Revolution Radio album track. Ordinary World featuring Miranda Lambert is just as underwhelming as the version without her, however Back In The USA is definately in the better half of Green Day's discography. Whilst Back In The USA is certainly not a match compared to some Green Day classics (American Idiot anyone?), I am enjoying this album a lot Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 20 (28/11/2017) (Week 29)
Rita's standing strong! Becoming only the fourth artist in the history of the chart to hold on to the top position for three weeks, Rita Ora's Anywhere sticks at the top for a third consecutive week and is having no trouble fighting off the competition. Eminem's Walk On Water featuring Beyoncé climbed to #2 last week, giving Rita quite the fright, but has quickly dropped back to it's debut at #5 whilst Selena Gomez & Marshmello's Wolves make their way back up to #2. Wolves has now spent a total of 4 weeks at #2, out-performing Dua Lipa's New Rules which spent 4 weeks at #3. However, New Rules did manage one week at #1, so Wolves is unlucky there. A new entry to the chart comes in at #3 with Craig David's latest single, I Know You featuring Bastille. This is Craig David's first appearance on the chart after the dull and generic (albeit catchy) Heartline failed to chart, yet this is Bastille third chart entry after Glory (peaked at #15) and Basket Case (peaked at #10). Lauv's Easy Love climbs one place (5-4) in a relatively Lauv-quiet week, the first in two weeks to not have a new song of his enter. Dancing around the Top 5 is Clean Bandit's I Miss You featuring Julia Michaels (9-6) , whilst Taylor Swift's ...Ready For It? follows closely by (10-8). MK's 17 falls back to #7 after re-peaking last week, 17 is currently climbing fast on the official UK chart both in sales and streams - will 17 be able to match it's official chart peak to my personal chart peak before it dies down (or gets hit by ACR, whichever comes first ). Yo-yo-ing up and down the chart this week is Alan Walker's All Falls Down featuring Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals as it climbs to a new peak of #12. I find it very hard to pick a favourite over Noah or Miley. They both have their ups and downs musically, and each have had their fair share of controversy (Robin Thicke, XXXTentacion), although I guess right now I prefer Miley as a person - yet prefer Noah's music Despite only having three new entries this week, I adore each one of them right now. Portugal. The Man's Live In The Moment is growing on me like crazy almost as much as Feel It Still did. Feel It Still debuted on my chart at #17 before quickly jumping to #1 the week afterwards, will Live In The Moment follow suit and be next week's #1? It's definately a contender, but Anywhere is hard to beat right now Speaking of Portugal. The Man - their album Woodstock has rose to #1 this week in the album chart featuring the Dexton Chart hit's Feel It Still and (now) Live In The Moment! Other songs I would recommend from here are Rich Friends and Number One, although basically anything on the album is 10/10. Little Mix just released "The Platinum Edition" of their 2016 album Glory Days, featuring three new songs. Dear Lover and If I Get My Way are great, however Is Your Love Enough? is (presumably) being pushed as a single and is far superior in my opinion. It's the perfect little mix of Touch and Reggaeton Lento and will hopefully become an official chart hit like those two! Note: Bored Dexton decided on Sunday to create his own "Now 98", similar to a few others. It's all fun and I even had a go at making my own cover for it - I haven't touched Photoshop in months but I think I did an ok job Two songs on there are yet-to-chart on my chart, and will probably chart next week - it can be found here Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 20 (05/12/2017) (Week 30)
A new chart record! Becoming the first ever artist to hold on to the top position for 4 weeks, Rita Ora's Anywhere sits proudly atop the chart this week after unfortunately missing out on an official UK chart #1 (first to Camila, and soon to Ed). Clean Bandit enter the Top 5 for the first time since June, and Jax Jones debuts at #5 with Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen. Breathe has already out-peaked Jax Jones' previous single, Instruction, which only made it to #6. Closely behind Rita is Craig David's I Know You featuring Bastille, climbing up to #2 and dethroning Selena Gomez & Marshmello's Wolves from it's peak. Selena and Marshmello join the club of "Almost Number One's" after being blocked from the top spot from both NF's Let You Down and then Rita Ora's Anywhere. Also members of this club are One Republic's No Vacancy, DJ Khaled's Wild Thoughts featuring Rihanna & Bryson Tiller, Avicii's Lonely Together featuring Rita Ora, Paramore's Hard Times, Coldplay & Big Sean's Miracles (Someone Special), DJ Snake's A Different Way featuring Lauv, Wyclef Jean's What Happened To Love featuring LunchMoney Lewis & The Knocks, Eminem's Walk On Water featuring Beyoncé, and (she's back) Rita Ora's Your Song. Portugal. The Man and Little Mix each grab themselves a second Top 10 hit this week with Live In The Moment (13-6) and Is Your Love Enough? (18-7), whilst four new entries (excluding Jax Jones) appear further down the chart. New Zealand's Six60 enter the chart at #10 this week with Rolling Stone from their latest EP Six60 EP - which also enters the album chart at #7. All six songs from this EP entered the New Zealand Top 40 upon release, with the single Don't Give It Up reaching #2. Depending on this weeks new releases, this could chart here next week! Not3s' My Lover, RAYE's Decline featuring Mr Eazi, and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' Holy Mountain all enter at #17, #19, and #20 respectively. Over in the album chart we see two new entries: the aforementioned Six60 EP at #7, as well as Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' Who Built The Moon? at #2. Noel is the second Gallagher brother to enter my chart after Liam's As You Were debuted and peaked at #3 on the album chart in October. Whilst Noel's album has out-peaked Liam's, the first single from Liam's album - Wall Of Glass - made it to #3 in my Top 20, whilst Noel's Holy Mountain has so far only made it to #20. I just realised that I had a similar commentary last week about Noah & Miley Cyrus, albeit they haven't been feuding for 20 years. I wasn't planning on that at all, but I guess sibling 'rivalry' is all apart of the music business these days. I wonder if The Veronicas will ever split and go solo? Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top
Rita dethroned! (and some exciting chart changes) Big news this week as my Top 20 chart has evolved into a whopping Top 40 chart! I was going to wait until the New Year for this but with Christmas coming up (and my annual influx of Christmas song-listening) the chart is easy to expand. This means that my official Top 40 chart year will start from the 12th December in seriously early preparation for an EOY chart in 2018. As my chart started-ish in March or something then I abandoned it, turned it into a playlist, then went back to the chart you see before you in June - it makes no sense to host an EOY when realistically I've only had 6 months of an actual chart There's also some minor design changes to make it easier for me Now onto the chart commentary! Rita Ora's Anywhere has fallen from grace (1-4) as a familar face debuts at the top spot. Camila Cabello enters at #1 with Never Be The Same, becoming the first artist on the chart to reach #1 with two different songs. Four months ago (wow!) she entered at #1 with Havana featuring Young Thug, which later became her first official UK #1 too. Craig David is holding on tight to #2 and Jax Jones climbs (5-3) with his new house hit Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen, completing the (extremely close) battle for this weeks #1, as Selena Gomez & Marshmello fall to #5 after 6 weeks in the Top 3. Two new entries to the Top 10 come from RAYE and Alan Walker, with Decline featuring Mr Eazi at #6 and All Falls Down featuring Noah Cyrus & Digital Farm Animals at #9. Decline is growing on me day-by-day and should be Top 5 next week at this rate, could it even join the race for Christmas #1? Camila Cabello's second new entry this week is at #13 with Real Friends, a Love Yourself-type future hit in the making. Ina Wroldsen also makes her second appearance this week with Strongest at #17 - I completely passed over this when it was first released but came back to it after her feature on Jax Jones' Breathe and I'm really getting into it The last new entry to the Top 20 comes from the first Christmas song in the chart - arguably one of the best Christmas singles of all time that is truly a classic, Fairytale of New York by The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl at #20. Outside of the Top 20 there's a hell of a lot of new entries from the likes of Pink, G-Eazy & Halsey, Jason Derulo, Bebe Rexha, and N.E.R.D. & Rihanna - as well as an influx of Christmas songs from: Sia, Wham!, Mariah Carey, The Killers, Ariana Grande, Slade, and Shakin' Stevens! Sia and The Killers each enter with two of their own original Christmas songs, from their own Christmas albums. Sia's Everyday Is Christmas also enters the album chart at #3, boasting Santa's Coming For Us and Candy Cane Lane. Candy Cane Lane is high-spirited and very jolly, which I prefer to the slower songs of Sia's discography - at least of her Christmas discography. Speaking of the album chart, Portugal. The Man's Woodstock holds on to #1 for a third week - matching the longevity of The Killers' Wonderful Wonderful and JP Cooper's Raised Under Grey Skies, the former of which re-enters the Top 5 this week after spending a week at #6. The Killers also enter at #6 with Don't Waste Your Wishes, their Christmas single compilation album (two of which are in my Top 40). Gorillaz reach a new peak of #7, it's worth noting that Humanz would have been a #1 album for me if the album chart was active at the time of release. Humanz has become a favourite of mine this year and I never get tired of both the quality and the variety in sound Gorillaz bring to a record - see Saturnz Barz, Andromeda, Ascension, and We Got The Power for a good taste Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 40 (19/12/2017) (Week 32)
Craig David & Bastille get the Christmas #1! Craig David's I Know You featuring Bastille takes the cake for Christmas #1 this week, removing Camila Cabello from the top - thus Never Be The Same matches Havana's length at the top of just one week. Despite having the most individual #1's from the chart, it is Rita Ora who has spent the longest amount of time on top with Anywhere. Jax Jones sits at #3 whilst his You Don't Know Me collaborator, RAYE, climbs into the Top 5 for the first time (6-4) with Decline featuring Mr Eazi. Rita falls to #5 and completes the Top 5. So far the chart is significantly non-Christmas, but all that changes at #6 as Sia grabs her first Top 10 hit with Candy Cane Lane (22-6). Candy Cane Lane (and Sia's entire Christmas album, but more on that later) is a playful song that shows how wacky Sia can become - singing about candy canes and reciting the rainbow. The Pogues are also here at #9 with the ultimate Christmas song, Fairytale of New York featuring the late Kirsty MacColl. Gaining her second Top 10 hit in three weeks is Ina Wroldsen with Strongest - completing her Sia-like single with heartbreaking lyrics over upbeat production Notable climbers this week are Not3s's My Lover (Original / Mabel Remix) (17-10), Camila Cabello's Real Friends (13-12), Sia's Santa's Coming For Us (36-13), Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You (24-15), Wham!'s Last Christmas (40-16), Ariana Grande's Santa Tell Me (32-18), Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody (37-27), and The Killers' A Great Big Sled (33-28). Most of which are obviously Christmas songs, aside from Not3s and Camila Cabello who have done well to fight the holiday invasion. Certain songs which have suffered the most include Little Mix's Is Your Love Enough? (11-27), Six60's Rolling Stone (12-23), Stormzy's Blinded By Your Grace, Pt.2 featuring MNEK (15-28), and Eminem's Walk On Water featuring Beyoncé (26-36). The latter of which fell on the week of the release of his latest album, Revival, which enters at #1 in the albums chart. I wasn't expecting to love Revival as much as I do. I enjoyed Walk On Water but the novelty of Eminem x Beyoncé wore off quickly and I was soon reminiscing of the times of Eminem's more crazy songs (to this day I never fail to rap the majority of Without Me) But then the album came along and gave us some much, much more exciting songs than Walk On Water prepared us for. I don't really have a clear favourite at the moment: Remind Me was instant and I fell in love both with the sample and Eminem's lyrical genius within it, but I've also been giving extra listens to River featuring Ed Sheeran, Offended, Heat, In My Head, and Believe. River featuring Ed Sheeran and Remind Me enter the chart this week at #35 and #26 respectively. Another big release, which again I was not expecting to enjoy so much, is Pharrel Williams-led N.E.R.D.'s NO_ONE EVER REALLY DIES. Lemon has only just started to hit me (which I am loving right now ) but the album actually has so much more to offer than just a brilliant collaboration with Rihanna. Similar to Revival, this album is equally fun and political but somehow finds the perfect balance. Deep Down Body Thurst enters my chart at #32, and Future collaboration 1000 enters at #39 whilst Lemon climbs to #27. Thanks for reading! Top 40 Songs (#31) 01 02 Craig David — I Know You (feat. Dexton's Top 40 (26/12/2017) (Week 33)
Decline doesn't decline! This week we have another new #1 at RAYE's Decline featuring Mr Eazi jumps (4-1), knocking Craig David off his peak a week after he did the same to Camila Cabello. I fell in love with Decline the first time I heard it and it's done nothing but grow on me more & more each time. Decline interpolates Ja Rule's Always On Time (another great song) and reminds me of some other great songs this year to have benefited from the use of the hits of yesteryear. James Hype's More Than Friends, Starley's Touch Me, DJ Khaled's Wild Thoughts, Katy Perry's Swish Swish, and of course Portugal. The Man's Feel It Still spring to mind when thinking of modern takes on older music. Camila falls to #4 and Jax Jone's stays at #3, whilst Sia earns her first Top 5 hit with Candy Cane Lane which - unlike almost every other Christmas song in my chart this week - has climbed. Three new entries to the Top 10 come from Lily Allen's comeback soon-to-be hit Trigger Bang featuring Giggs at #7, Eminem's worldwide almost #1 River featuring Ed Sheeran at #8, and Not3s breakout single My Lover at #10 - boosted slightly by Mabel's remix (which is growing on me ). There's a lot of build-up towards Christmas and as soon as the clock strikes Boxing Day all that holly jolly momentum comes crashing down, which has given way for new peaks for: N.E.R.D. & Rihanna, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Pink, Eminem (x2), G-Eazy & Halsey, and Dua Lipa. Fighting against the trend, however, is Wham!'s Last Christmas which climbs to #13 from #16 following the posthumous campaign to make George Michael's heartful Christmas classic an official UK #1. Joining Lily Allen's aforementioned Trigger Bang featuring Giggs in this weeks new entries is a surprisingly good medley of Imagine Dragons' Thunder and Khalid's Young Dumb & Broke at #16. They performed a mashup of the new songs at the AMA's last month, and released a studio version of the medley last week which works very well. Despite previously appearing on my chart on three different songs, Khalid has not yet actually entered with a song which he holds solo credit. Young Dumb & Broke failed to chart here, but that's not to say I don't enjoy it - and I like it even more now with this mashup. It's also worth noting that Imagine Dragons have now appeared on my chart a total of 4 times - 3 of which have been with the same song. The original version of Thudner charted here long ago, and then again as the K.Flay Remix, and now once more in the Khalid medley. In hindsight, the K.Flay remix should've been added on to the original version (like my My Lover is charting) but oh well. Paramore's Fake Happy also enters at #36. With Christmas songs getting little-to-no plays this coming week it's very likely that all 8 Christmas songs in the chart will drop out, pathing the way for many new entries! Some artists hoping to score their first chart entries are Tom Walker, Charli XCX, Rojdar, & PNAU! Over in the albums chart we see... absolutely nothing really. No new or re-entries in a relatively quiet week, resulting in Eminem holding on to #1 for a second week. The Killers & Sia switch places at #4 & #5, whilst (again) The Killers & Taylor Swift switch places at #9 & #10. Pink's Beautiful Trauma reached a new peak this week of #24 coming from the album of the same name, which also brought us What About Us. I liked What About Us at first but after a while it soon got tired and I admit I skip it the majority of the time now in favour of much better album tracks. Revenge seems to be the next obvious single after Beautiful Trauma, but I feel as though it won't make much of an impact without heavy promotion - as the novelty of having Eminem feature has worn off since most people will have cherry-picked it upon album release. Secrets has potential though Thanks for reading! Top 40 Songs (#33) 01 04 RAYE Decline (feat. Mr Eazi) [19-6-4-1] 02 01 Craig David I Know You (feat. Dexton's Top 40 (02/01/2017) (Week 34)
Second Top 10's for Pink & Paramore! Happy New Year everyone! The first #1 of the year comes from RAYE, at the top of the chart for a second consecutive week. RAYE's You Don't Know Me producer Jax Jones is also at the top, climbing (3-2) with his newest dance hit Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen whilst Eminem scores his second Top 3 hit (after Walk On Water featuring Beyonce) with River featuring Ed Sheeran. Although these are two of the biggest names in modern music, #3 looks to be the peak for River with two very strong singles above it. And to top that off, Justin Timberlake's long-awaited comeback single is out soon which could very well trouble RAYE at the top! Craig David's #1 I Know You featuring Bastille drops to #4 and Lily Allen climbs into the Top 5 with Trigger Bang featuring Giggs. Interestingly, the entire Top 5 is composed of songs with featured artists, whilst all the rest of the Top 10 are solo singles (well, sort of). Paramore grab their second Top 10 with Fake Happy (36-7), the latest single from the brilliant album After Laughter (which enters the album chart as a result). Pink also achieves her second Top 10, whilst N.E.R.D. & Rihanna are both new to the heights of being Top 10 (or even Top 20). Other notable climbs this week come from G-Eazy & Halsey's Him & I (30-11), and Dua Lipa's IDGAF (34-18). IDGAF is Dua's second Top 20 single here after the brilliant New Rules made it to #1 in August, whilst also spending 11 consecutive weeks in my Top 10 (8 of which were in the Top 5!). As the new year dawns, all 9 Christmas entries of the past few weeks have scuttled away into the shadows for another 12 months allowing for 7 new entries and even 2 re-entries! Tom Walker's Leave A Light On & Charli XCX's Out Of My Head featuring Tove Lo & ALMA enter at #12 & #19 respectively, the latte of which gives ALMA her third Top 20 hit and Charli XCX her second (following 1 Night with Mura Masa). At #22 we have two unknown names releasing a rendition of a well known track - Ignition featuring JAYS obviously being a 2017 version of R. Kelly's Ignition (Remix). I've heard this on the radio a couple of times and couldn't help indulging. It's nothing groundbreaking and is much in the same boat as Nevada's The Mack from 2016, but it's a fun take on a classic New entries also come from Halssey (#35), PNAU (#36), Diplo (#37), and Nightcrawlers x John Reid (#38). Returning back to my personal chart after a whopping 29 weeks absent is Imagine Dragon's Whatever It Takes, a track with debuted and peaked here at #9 after being released as a promotional single for their newest album, Evolve. Whatever It Takes was recently pushed as an official third single and has climbed back into my playlists. This single is much more 'classic' Imagine Dragons than Thunder ever was, so it will be interesting to see how it charts in the coming weeks. Will it find a new peak, over 7 months after achieving it's first? Bebe Rexha's Meant To Be featuring Florida Georgia Line also re-enters at #40. Over in the album chart we have an entirely static Top 4 of Eminem, N.E.R.D., Portugal. The Man, and The Killers, while Paramore's After Laughter enters at #5. It is worth noting that, had my album chart been running when After Laughter was released, Paramore would have scored a #1 album. But, in a similar case to Gorillaz's Humanz, are stuck here with low-ish peaks Hard Times is a definitive favourite of mine from After Laughter, although Fake Happy, Rose-Coloured Boy, Caught In The Middle, Told You So, and Forgiveness are all 11/10 too Safe to say I am a big fan of Paramore and this album of incredibly upbeat yet depressive songs is quite the example of my 2017 Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 40 (09/01/2017) (Week 35)
Guess whos' back... back again... Justin's back? And to a mixed reception at that. This week marks the long-awaited comeback of the brilliant Justin Timberlake, with his newest single Filthy. Despite having some of the most mixed responses I've seen towards a star's comeback since... well pretty much all big comebacks in this past year have had mixed reception, at the least (*cough* Katy Perry *cough*). I guess once you've been in the music industry for a long time people often reminisce about your older songs and hold a special place for them, thus end up being somewhat disappointed upon a big return. Katy Perry, Eminem, and Imagine Dragons are just some of the big names to have been critised for their albums in 2017. It's the curse of the standard I guess ) That aside, I am of the camp of Filthy lovers ("camp of Filthly lovers" is not a sentence I ever want to repeat) and have played it a total of 19 times since Friday. Filthy obviously debuts at #1 on my chart, blocking a would-be #1 for Jax Jones' Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen (2-2) as RAYE's Decline featuring Mr Eazi falls to #3. At #4 for a second week is Craig David, and Paramore enter the Top 5 with Fake Happy (7-5). Paramore previously peaked here with Hard Times at #2, will Fake Happy give Paramore a second Top 2 hit? The second highest new entry this week comes from Liam Payne & Rita Ora at #12, the lead single from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack. I watched the first "Fifty Shades" movie out of curiosity but I haven't been interested in returning, apparently the second installment was less... you know... but I'm still not too bothered. The singles given to us by Fifty Shades, however, are all great songs, and For You gives Rita Ora her 4th hit here. She previously earned a #1 with Anywhere, and also had two #2 peaking hits from Your Song and Avicii's Lonely Together. Will For You give Rita her 4th Top 2 hit? Notable climbs this week include G-Eazy & Halsey's Him & I (11-8), Dua Lipa's IDGAF (18-15), Imagine Dragons' Whatever It Takes (32-20), Halsey's Bad At Love (33-24), PNAU's Go Bang (36-28), Diplo's Get It Right featuring MØ (37-30), Nightcrawlers x John Reid's Push The Feeling featuring Big Narstie (38-32), and Bebe Rexha's Meant To Be featuring Florida Georgia Line (40-37). Little Mix, Taylor Swift, Six60, and Eminem (Remind Me) all bow out of the chart this week, making way for the two aforementioned new entries as well as new entries from Bruno Mars and Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso. Bruno Mars announced that a remix of his 24K Magic album track Finesse would feature the (for some reason) adored Cardi B and I was majorly disappointed. I despised Bodak Yellow and have just not enjoyed anything from her since: No Limit, MotorSport, and Bartier Cardi are not enjoyable for me. Finesse shocked me a bit - I wasn't expecting anything good but Cardi B is actually not bad on this. Maybe this will convert me into liking her music similarly to how Little Mix's Power turned me into a Stormzy fan. Who knows? Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso score their second Top 40 hit with Dreamer featuring Trevor Guthrie at #40. Eminem holds on to #1 for a 4th consecutive week, although with new releases from Camila Cabello and Post Malone on the horizon (with Fall Out Boy and Craig David also coming soon) this could very well be Revival's last week at the top. Portugal. The Man could also be challenging Eminem again next week as Woodstock climbs up to #2. Paramore's After Laughter climbs too (3-5). It's worth mentioning that Woodstock and After Laughter are the two CDs I have in my car The Killers are out of the Top 5 for only the second time in their 16-week-long chart run at #6. Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso's More Than You Know enters at #7 as Sia's Everyday Is Christmas leaves the chart for the next 49 weeks! Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 40 (16/01/2017) (Week 36)
The man of the woods faces competition from the woman of havana! The third chart week of the year dawns upon us and gives Justin Timberlake a second week at the Top, with heavy (but beatable) competition from Camila Cabello and Jax Jones. Justin's FutureSex/LoveSound-like single Filthy manages another week at #1, fast becoming my favourite song of 2018 so far and only building further onto my hype for his album. With Man Of The Woods coming just two & a half weeks away, it's possible that the artist to take #1 from Justin may just be Justin himself! This week Camila Cabello released her self-titled debut album, Camila, to much success following the worldwide smashing of Havana. Camila follows that sound through her album, yet sounds fresh on every track present. Camila grabs both her 3rd & 4th Top 5 hits on my chart with She Loves Control at #2, and Real Friends climbing to #4. Jax Jones' Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen falls to #3, and RAYE's Decline featuring Mr Eazi falls to #5. Craig David's I Know You spent a single week at #1 in my chart not along ago and falls out of the Top 5 for a first time this week (4-6) however with his highly anticipated album, The Time Is Now, set to release next Friday, I Know You is looking to have decent longevity in my chart. Similarly, former #1 Never Be The Same returns to the Top 10 from #19. Also returning to the Top 10 this week, 33 weeks since it was last there, is Imagine Dragons' Whatever It Takes repeaking at #9. Paramore's Fake Happy falls to #8, whilst Halsey earns her second Top 10 single with Bad At Love (24-10). This weeks 'big' climbers are Dua Lipa's IDGAF (15-11), Jason Derulo's Tip Toe featuring French Montana (17-16), Diplo's Get It Right featuring MØ (30-22), Nightcrawlers x John Reid's Push The Feeling featuring Big Narstie (32-25), PNAU's Go Bang (28-27), Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso's Dreamer featuring Trevor Guthrie (40-29), Clean Bandit's I Miss You featuring Julia Michaels (36-31), and Bruno Mars' Finesse featuring Cardi B (39-38). I Miss You saves itself from dropping out this week with fellow dance hits Cola & All Falls Down via a newly released remix featuring Yungen. On paper it sounds whack, but I actually like what Yungen brings to the track and has somewhat revived it for me after becoming a bit bored of it recently Still, bring on the next Clean Bandit single! The four remaining new entries come from the likes of Sigrid, Fall Out Boy, Ramz, and The Vaccines. Talk about variety. Sigrid is the BBC's Sound of 2018 winner, a well deserving win for her that should (and by the looks of UK iTunes, is) further launching her career. She previously charted her long ago with Don't Kill My Vibe, and earns her second Top 20 hit this week with Strangers. Sigrid's Don't Kill My Vibe EP also enters the album chart at #3 as I rediscover her discography Ramz enters at #39 with Barking, The Vaccines enter at #40 with I Can't Quit, and Fall Out Boy enter at #30 with Hold Me Tight Or Don't. Camila Cabello (this still won't be the last time I talk about her, sorry!) also re-enters this week with her chart-topping Havana featuring Young Thug at #19. Havana debuted on my chart the week it released at #1 but quickly (and decievingly) fell quickly. Despite the misleading chart run, Havana has been prominent in my playlists for the past few months and is actually my 6th most played song of the past 12 months! She is out-played by the likes of Avicii (WY), Dua Lipa, Portugal. The Man, Avicii (LT), and Imagine Dragons. Now to talk about Camila Cabello again. If you think this is too much talk of a single artist, just you wait until JT drops Man Of The Woods Camila's Camila obviously debuts at #1 in my album chart boasting brilliant songs such as Havana and Never Be The Same. Other album tracks I highly recommend are: She Loves Control, Inside Out, Into Me, and Real Friends. I mean, it's a 10-track album, you may as well just listen to it all Eminem's Revival falls to #2 and Portugal. The Man's Woodstock falls to #4, whilst Sigrid's Don't Kill My Vibe EP enters at #3. I never really got into Plot Twist when it was released and has been a bit of a slow burner for me since then, however it really shines on this EP and is a lovely single The Killers just can't stay away from the Top 5 long enough, crawling back up to #5. An album track I've really been digging lately is Tyson vs Douglas, although the album is choc-a-block with brilliant songs. Their comeback single, The Man, is in my all-time Top 5 The Killers tracks already and is actually one of the songs I voted for in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2017. The results of which will be broadcast next Saturday on the 27th, so look out for some new entries following that! The rest you can read yourself Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 40 (23/01/2017) (Week 37)
Justin brought his supplies, but are they filthy enough? At the summit for a thrid, consecutive week is Justin Timberlake with Filthy, who is joined at the top at #2 by none other than himself, with his latest single Supplies. I initially wasn't too sure about Supplies, and had to play it a couple of times to get into it - then I really got into it... but Filthy is still a firm favourite this week! There are three other new entries which debut in the Top 10 this week, the first of which is Rudimental at #3 with These Day featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore, & Dap Caplen. Rudimental and Macklemore have each had hits on my chart before, with Glorious and Sun Comes Up peaking at #11 and #12 respectively. Jax Jones falls to #4, and Craig David re-enters the Top 5 with I Know You featuring Bastille. Jorja Smith's Let Me Down featuring Stormzy enters at #6, giving Stormzy his fourth Top 10 hit (following Little Mix's #4-peaking Power, JP Cooper's #1-peaking Momma's Prayers, and Stormzy's only solo effort Blinded By Your Grace featuring MNEK which also peaked at #4. Imagine Dragons finally find a new peak with Whatever It Takes climbing to #7, followed closely by Drake's God's Plan at #8. Dua Lipa grabs a second Top 10 hit with IDGAF (11-9). Diplo, Ramz, and PNAU all climb into the Top 20 this week giving each of them their first Top 20 hit, as well as MØ's first as a featured artist. Debuting at #17 in my chart is Morgan Saint's YOU, which is my first entry into the Buzzjack Song Contest from my own nation of Holland-Oats. Whilst I'm not expecting it to do anything in the BJSC, I am happy to share this song both there and here The lowest new entry this week comes from Cashmere Cat, Major Lazer, & Tory Lanez with Miss You at #24. I wasn't blown away by this at first, but I admit it has grown on me a lot over the weekend and should climb next week Fall Out Boy released their seventh studio album this week and... well... it was less than I was expecting to say the least. I haven't been too interested in many of their releases in the past year other than Hold Me Tight Or Don't (climbing only 1 place this week to #29), partly because my hype was crushed by the release of Young and Menace which really was grating. After how much I enjoyed American Beauty / American Psycho, especially Centuries and Irresistible, I hoped Fall Out Boy would follow up similarly - but alas M A N I A was a bit of a disappointment. Champion, Hold Me Tight Or Don't, and Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) are probably my favourites of the album. Fall Out Boy's M A N I A enters the album chart at #5 amidst a relatively stagnant week with the rest of the Top 5 being non-movers. Thanks for reading! Dexton's Top 40 (30/01/2017) (Week 38)
Justin dethroned? It sure looks that way. Although with his album just around the corner, Filthy (or perhaps another track from Man Of The Woods) could just as easily climb back up after being beaten in this very close race to #1 this week. Debuted at the top is Vera Blue's Regular Touch, a new song to me from a slightly familiar name which came in at #15 in Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2017 and introduced me to a quite amazing song. Both Justin Timberlake songs fall this week with Supplies (2-4) being overtaken by another song featured highly in the Hottest 100 (#7) - a song I was already stanning PNAU's Go Bang which rises 17 places to #3. A third new entry to the Top 5 comes from previous charter topper Dua Lipa with IDGAF (9-5). Notable climbers this week are: Sigrid's Strangers (13-10), Morgan Saint's YOU (17-15), Ramz' Barking (19-17), Cashmere Cat, Major Lazer, & Tory Lanez's Miss You (24-18), Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso's Dreamer featuring Trevor Guthrie (25-19), Fall Out Boy's Hold Me Tight Or Don't (29-25), and Rita Ora's Anywhere (37-26). Well, none of them are too notable - however, this is Sigrid's first time in the Top 10 before only just missing out with Don't Kill My Vibe last year, and is Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso's second time in the Top 20 after the #8 hit More Than You Know. Aside from Vera Blue, there are 7 more new entries this week! Thundamentals' Sally featuring Mataya debuts at #11 (#8 in the Hottest 100), Justin Timberlake's Say Something featuring Chris Stapleton at #12, Fall Out Boy's Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) at #16, Angus & Julia Stone's Chateau at #23 (#3 in the Hottest 100), Superfruit's Imaginary Parties at #31 (a BJSC entry I owe thanks to Azure), Mabel's Fine Line featuring Not3s at #33, Topic & Ally Brooke's Perfect at #38, and Hayden James's NUMB featuring GRAACE at #39 (#32 in the Hottest 100). A few other BJSC songs and/or Hottest 100 songs could enter next week as they are dancing around the 41-50 mark, however with Justin Timberlake's album coming this week (!!!!) that could all change... Over in the album chart Camila holds precedence for a third week, blocking Craig David's long-awaited but slightly-underwhelming The Time Is Now at #2. Gang Of Youth's enter with their album Go Farther In Lightness at #3 - Gang Of Youths are an Australian indie group who had a total of three entries in the Hottest 100's Top 10 (#2, #5, #10) all of which hail from this album. After the countdown, I listened through the album and I really liked it despite them not being really my kind of thing. Fall Out Boy climb to #4 as I dig deeper into M A N I A - Wilson & Hold Me Tight are clear favourites of the album although Champion has grown on me a lot. After 19 weeks in the Top 6, The Killers have finally fallen further down the chart to #8. Two former #1's and an almost-#1 leave the chart this week, with NF passing on the "Longest Running" torch to Rita Ora's Anywhere. But with Anywhere at just #36, who will take over if she falls out of the chart next week? Thanks for coming! Dexton's Top 40 (06/02/2017) (Week 39)
To absolutely no ones surprise, Justin Timberlake's Man Of The Woods debuts at #1 on the album chart, bringing along with it a bunch of album tracks into the Top 40. Reclaiming it's throne is Filthy which climbs back to #1 for a fourth week, becoming only the second single in the history of my chart to hold the #1 position for over 3 weeks (previously Rita Ora's Anywhere had a 4-week-long run at the top). Completing a Timberlake Top 3 is Supplies (4-2) and Say Something featuring Chris Stapleton (13-4). Vera Blue drops to #4 after being my #1 last week, and a new entry to the chart is Justin's Man Of The Woods at #5. Justin accounts to a total of 10 songs of my chart this week: Filthy (#1), Supplies (#2), Say Something featuring Chris Stapleton (#3), Man Of The Woods (#5), Livin' Off The Land (#7), Breeze Off The Pond (#13), Higher Higher (#16), Morning Light featuring Alicia Keys (#22), Sauce (#28), and Young Man (#40). The only non-Justin Timberlake entry into my chart this week comes from Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse with thier funky dance single from late last year, Katchi, which enters at #33. This has grown on me a lot the past week so expect this to climb fast! Other songs finding new peaks are Sigrid's Strangers (10-8), Mabel's Fine Line featuring Not3s (33-25), Hayden James' NUMB featuring GRAACE (39-35), and Topic & Ally Brooke's Perfect (38-36). Meanwhile, a bunch of songs are booted out of the Top 40 including Rita's Anywhere, a former #1 and last weeks longest running single. I never thought a country Justin Timberlake album would necessarily appeal to me, but Man Of The Woods was an instant love for me and I'm digging pretty much every track. He's got a lot of criticism this year for basically anything he's done, but none from me, as the man of the woods is already my third favourite JT album (which is a bigger feat than it sounds ). Keys N Krates released their debut album, Cura, too this week, which enters at #8. Dexton's Top 40 (13/02/2017) (Week 40)
A record has been broken! Justin Timberlake's Filthy has managed an entire 5 weeks atong my personal chart, beating the record formerly held by Rita Ora's Anywhere which had 5 weeks at #1!. However this week is looking to be Filthy's last at the top, with high competition from the likes of Rudimental, Marshmello, Dua Lipa, Khalid, Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse and Justin Timberlake () close to the top! Justin holds on to #2 and #3, and Vera Blue is also a non-mover with Regular Touch (4-4). Meanwhile Rudimental limbs back up into the Top 5 (6-5) and a new entry from Marshmello & Anne-Marie debuts at #7. Marshmello has previously had a #1 here with Silence featuring Khalid, could this give him his second #1? Speak of the devil, Khalid's already amazing Location has been re-released featuring the wonderful Jorja Smith and Wretch 32 and manages to debut here at #12. This is, somehow, Khalid's first solo hit here despite already having a #1 under his belt with Silence and two Top 5's with Lorde's Homemade Dynamite and Logic's 1-800. In fact, this all four of this weeks new entries are from artists who have previously had #1's here! Thirty Seconds To Mars debuted at the top with Walk On Water a few months ago, and RAYE was the first #1 of 2018 with the superb Decline - and of course Marshmello & Khalid were #1 with Silence. Thirty Seconds To Mars' Dangerous Night at #29 and Kojo Funds & RAYE's Check at #30 each hope to reach the sucess of their predeccessors in the coming weeks. Notable climbs this week come from Fall Out Boy's Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) which climbs 7 places to #10, becoming their first Top 10 hit to date, Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse's literally banger Katchi has a huge jump into the Top 20 (33-14), Paramore's Fake Happy rebounds a bit after what shall from now on be known as the "JT Effect" up to #21, and Topic & Ally Brooke's Perfect climbs also (36-26). Katchi is the definition of one to watch right now, it's growing on me insanely and could easily challenge for #1 in the coming weeks. I'm surprised it managed to go completely over my head last year, I'm really loving it right now and I can't believe I just... didn't find it when it was released? I supposed back then I wasn't as active on BJ as I am now, but still... The JT Effet, whilst still dominating the chart, has reduced a bit as Sauce (28-OUT and Young Man (40-OUT) leave the chart and the rest of his songs here either fall down the chart or stay where they are. Despite Justin's trio of hits at the top of the chart dominating for a second week, I feel next week will see quite a bit of change up there... The album chart however is a different story. Man Of The Woods I can tell is already going to challenge for my EOY #1 album, possibly against Camila's Camila which is holding on to #2. I try to make my singles chart be as accurate as possible without having some songs spending 20+ weeks there (which would be the case with Portugal. The Man's Feel It Still I'm sure ) but my album charts are much different, as is seen by The Killers' Wonderful Wonderful climbing back into the Top 3 after spending 21 weeks in the Top 10. Wonderful Wonderful is my favourite album of 2017 and, so long as there isn't much competition coming soon (which I don't believe there is, although I haven't been up to date with many new abum released lately) The Killers should continue their chart run for a while longer. Thanks for coming! Top 40 Songs (#40) 01 01 Justin Timberlake Filthy [1-1-1-2-1-1] 02 02 Justin Timberlake Supplies [2-4-2-2] 03 03 Justin Timberlake Say Something (feat. Dexton's Top 40 (20/02/2017) (Week 41)
Finally the JT takeover has passed, with Marshmello & Anne-Marie climb right up to the top with Friends (7-1) along with two other new entries to the Top 5. Filthy falls to #2 after hefty 5-week reign at #1, whilst both Supplies and Say Something featuring Chris Stapleton are out of the top 5. Khalid's Location remix featuring Jorja Smith and Wretch 32 gives Khalid his second highest charting single after Silence, and overall his 4th Top 5 hit - but his first as lead credit. Rudimental crawl up to #4 and Ofenbach vs. Nickwaterhouse's funky Katchi takes another large jump this week up to #5 from #14. Outside the Top 5, not much is happening in the Top 10 with both Dua Lipa's IDGAF (8-8) and Fall Out Boy's Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) (10-10) non-movers. Earning her second Top 20 hit this week is RAYE, who's collaboration with Kojo Funds Check takes a huge jump (30-15). Her previous hit, Decline, previously spent two weeks at #1 - however both were actually in two different years Check looks unlikely to give RAYE another #1, but how far up will it chart? Speaking of two #1's, this week Marshmello joins Camila Cabello in the elite club of "artists with more than one #1 hit" with both Silence and Friends being #1's. Camila's second #1 hit actually leaves the chart this week, Never Be The Same (39-xx), whilst her album remains #2 under Justin Timberlake for yet another week. Before going into albums, we actually have 6 new entries this week coming from the likes of: Cash Cash, The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar, Noah Kahan & Julia Michaels, Niall Horan, Diplo, and Pink - the highest of which is Cash Cash's Jewel featuring Nikki Vianna at #20. This is Cash Cash's first entry here since All My Love featuring Conor Maynard, peaking at #15. Conor Maynard is yet to re-appear here. Segwaying sort-of into the album commentary despite being a paragraph between my last mention of it: this week of course JT's Man Of The Woods remains at #1. If he can last another week on top (very likely), Justin Timberlake will join Eminem as the only two artists to have hold on to the #1 album for over 3 weeks. Justin has already broken the Dexton chart record for most weeks with a single at #1, so will he beat the record for most weeks with an album at #1 also? We'll see The rest of the album chart is also almost entirely stagnant which is a pretty boring week. Despite there actually being a few new releases last week that I would like to check out (The Wombats in particular) I just haven't had time to listen through any albums Pink's Beautiful Trauma however climbs back up to #7 for a total of 7 weeks on my chart, boosted slightly by Secrets entering my chart.
