Yesh his voice is fit for ballads but with Ana Mena, a song called Romeo y Juliet and a redone production (he's quite Latin nowadays), I'm envisioning too much bandwagon Latin on this album

The only reason they are really playing him is because he's signed to Global's record label. It's really like a Nathan Sykes situation where they played to death for a while just because he was signed to Global's label.

I guess they don't want the bad press with the two previous winners not releasing albums.
So they are chucking one out and hoping for the best, and if it flops they can claim it got lost in the Christmas Market (Just like Matt's second album deal).
Louisa will possibly get a single out at the end of the year an album out at the start of next year which might get a higher debut but low sales and a quick drop (both the album down the charts and Louisa from Syco)

Realistically it’s over for him - he’ll get the obligatory XF slot but with the lead single charting at #83 there can’t be much hope for this even if it does have some great tracks.

Wise move by the record company - they have probably realised it’s going to flop so may as well price it low to encourage as many sales as possible seeing as they have made the album. SFY is/was such a poor choice for a lead single.

Why do I lowkey feel like XF won't even give him a live show slot? Maybe they're saving it for the album release, but if they are prioritising Tokio Meyers over him when he needs it, Grace/Rak-Su better run from this show and not win for the good of their careers

This! I seriously don’t get why he isn’t everywhere? Loose Women, Lorraine, Sunday Brunch, This Morning etc., - it cant be that hard to get him onto these shows? He’s the most recent winner and has had 2 Top 10 singles - if the management team are saving promo for the album then it’ll be too late by then.

Apparently "The Thing About Love" is the next single, so I imagine it'll be what he performs on The X Factor tonight. It's terrible, dated and will not a hit. I still don't get how they can afford to release his album without a hit (not counting "Subeme La Radio") when Louisa had a top 20 single and there's still no news on hers.

Sucker For You was only added to Hot Hits UK just over a week ago, I think he'd be stupid to perform anything other than that! Wouldn't surprise me if The Thing About Love was just an instant grat.

I imagine he's getting an album because SyCo probs want him out of contract asap? Whereas with Louisa they probs feel there's still bags of potential, maybe so aren't as willing to give up on her as quickly? Maybe?

I doubt we’ll ever see a Louisa album - she totally needs to rebuild her career as the hits she had are far to old to be added to an album so she would need to come back with 2-3 big hits to sell an album.
Back on topic so pleased to see ‘The Thing about Love’ at #21 on iTunes - so much better than SFY and really hope it can become a hit/sell the album.

His new single is actually holding up pretty well on iTunes.
Once the video is released and maybe with a little bit more promotion it could officially go top twenty if it’s playlisted on Spotify!

The album is really good however they totally screwed up the singles - this week he’s at #51 with ‘The Thing About Love’ and #55 with ‘Sucker For You’ - if they had concentrated on one I’m sure he would have been Top 40 this week and a bizzare move that they added SFY to Spotify’s Hot Hits after they moved on to the next single - I’m assuming the record company were behind this but it’s created a mess.

Ouch the album charted at 29! That is by far the worst performance of any X Factor winner who has released a debut album (Don't worry Louisa, I am sure you will break this record with your independently released album in 2021). I feel like as I said before Syco new this wasn't going to do well and have released it without much effort. The two singles have both got to 51, which isn't good either. Is The Thing About Love an actual single or buzz/promo/instantgrat/bullshit phrase to disguise a flop?
I suspect he will be released from his record deal before the year is out. I also suspect he will be on the cover of Attitude with his coming out story by March

Yep this has flopped. Two good singles though. The album cover is too dark doesn't stand out in the shops at all!

I am slightly surprised by how badly he has performed too. I always felt he would never do much but i expected his album to have performed slightly better. I was so disappointed with how things performed for Ben Haenow who i felt released 2 wonderful singles and a strong debut but seeing Matt's performance has made Ben look like a real success.
Matt in my opinion never had the X Factor, Saara was miles ahead of him and i still feel she was robbed of the win. Matt, is someone who would have suited better to have been part of a boyband.

Seriously I know nobody expected this to be a runaway success but I’m shock how hard it’s flopped - two singles missing the Top 50 and the album likely to spend 1 week in the Top 100! The album isn’t that bad but they messed up with the singles and half arsed got behind the album. I guess Steve Brookstein, Matt Cardle, Leon Jackson and co will be waiting for him in the XF bargain bucket!.

X-Factor really needs another Leona, Alexandra or Little Mix who can have success with at least ONE album. It's looking a bit embarrassing right now with Matt bombing and Louisa's non-existent album. No one from the current crop seem to be making any waves either.

Little Mix and Leona got very lucky, imo.
The male artist market is over saturated anyway - Ed, Sam Smith, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, there isn't really a niche for someone like Matt unfortunately which makes it all a lot harder.

I think it is more their talent that made them shine. As someone who wasn't massive on Little Mix to start with, looking back at their old performances from XF to DNA it is understandable why they won. Especially comparing them to the current winners. Leona's vocals have always been bang on the money. I do think without Bleeding Love she wouldn't have been quite as successful.
The problem is the XF don't find an artists 'sound' during the show so the public can't really decide if they love their sound. Matt going for the Spanish / latin sound suits him so well yet on the show all he sang was female ballads to show his falsetto

That's where I was coming from - without Bleeding Love and Black Magic, would either act have had their respective successes? I never understood the Spanish/Latin angle either..

see, Black Magic was in Little Mix's 3rd era so they had already made a name for themselves, but I get where you're coming for, it elevated their success to the point where its cool to like Little Mix whereas if it was like Girls Aloud it would be seen as 'lame'.

Yeah had they not had BM they'd have gone into irrelevancy and I think we can all agree they've been unstoppable since, really. They'd had hits before to help carve themselves as an act but I can't see Matt doing a LM or Leona, the material has been so off.
