 I know we've had the R1 Dance Chart thread in the past (and the discussion thread in the UK Charts forum), but I wanted to start something dedicated to the station that puts dance music at the forefront of its music rotation. Here I'll be posting about the dance music shows for the week, any news, the R1 Dance Chart and anything else relevant to the genre. |

Radio 1 in Ibiza Recap
 As part of the station's 'Summer of Dance' for 2016, Radio 1 returned to Ibiza for its 21st year. Taking over Ushuaia and Café Mambo, the entire R1 Dance family headed out to broadcast shows, sets and live performances from some of the biggest artists around. Kicking things off on Thursday night (August 4th) was Annie Mac who moved her Friday night show a day ahead where she was live from Café Mambo. Featured on the show was chats with some of station's DJs and a Hottest Record from Kideko & George Kwali. A repeat of the Ibiza Prom presented by Pete Tong aired straight after Annie which was recorded live at The Albert Hall in 2015. On the morning of the event, Nick Grimshaw broadcast the Radio 1 Breakfast Show live from Ibiza and featured a show entirely made up of dance music and a special Nixtape. Then, live from the open air event in Ushuaia, Annie Mac's Friday Night show was live for 4 hours of back to back mixes from a host of DJs including Danny Howard, Mistajam, Target, Toddla T, Annie Mac, Heidi, B.Traits, George Fitzgerald, Pete Tong and Kölsch and some special guests performing live on stage. Fast forward to Saturday afternoon and the guys moved back to Café Mambo for the night where Danny Howard broadcast a special episode of Dance Anthems featuring sets from Martin Solveig, Disciples and KDA. Mistajam then carried on the party at Café Mambo with live performances from Dizzee Rascal, Katy B and Craig David and sets from Monki and Kideko & George Kwali. To round off the night, Radio 1 went live to Space with highlights from the club. So, as announced over in the R1 Discussion thread, there are some schedule changes happening in November.
Danny Howard is moving to Friday nights with a new show dedicated to underground dance music. The confirmed line up so far is Annie Mac (7pm-9pm), Pete Tong (9pm-11pm), Danny Howard (11pm-1am). The rest is yet to be announced, but it's good to see the DJs back to 2-hour shows. I'm hoping B.Traits isn't going anywhere and I'll assume the Essential Mix won't be budging either. MistaJam is going to be presenting the Dance Anthems show on a Saturday afternoon (4pm-7pm). |
