FNT Nickodonia, Fervorosia and Letland sadly couldn't be with us to present their votes tonight so we have 45 voting nations in this final, kicking off with the hosts;

FSR Rontvia (1/45)



Good evening to Klurren and Ricardo Delta, who presented the Rontvian points last month and is doing a fine job with hosting this contest! This is Eric Amarillo calling from Constarvan with the results of the voting for BJSC XXXVI, this time chosen by 100% televoting. We've received a record number of calls, the quality this month is absolutely insane.

Before we start we must give our condolences to Ashton, ChrIseland and B.a.N.G. but especially to Bignia-Zaragovina and Torchwood. All five of these countries sent excellent songs which would almost always usually get points but the quality was so extremely high that we just couldn't squeeze them into the votes. The latter two even reached the Rontvian top 75 chart! Big apologies going their way, but we can't thank you enough for fantastic discoveries regardless and hope to vote for you all again soon! Without further ado though, here are the songs that did manage to finish within the top ten of the televote;

2 points go to Allecian: Bright Light Bright Light – Disco Moment
3 points go to Caerfyrddia: Cecilie Fleur - Alle De Lykkelige Kærester

We give 8 points to Tinnmark for the excellent Ring Meg by Gabrielle which reminded us of a Norwegian Natasha Bedingfield!

10 points go to Isconia for the hauntingly beautiful Video Games by Lana Del Rey. Any other contest this would have easily been a 12 pointer but this wasn't any normal contest...

And a country who seem to get it oh so very right every now and then, and provide us with some of our all time favourite contest discoveries, our 12 points go to Espen with our new favourite German song Frida Gold's Wovon sollen wir träumen, which has already soared up to #1 in FSR Rontvia as a direct result of the contest, only the second instance of this happening after Leddra Chapman's Story

The main problem with this month's contest is that I wanted to give my whole top 10 the maximum 12 points, and I also wanted to award points to Isconia who just missed out, amongst others . It was a very high quality edition!

Sorry I couldn't help you out I LOVED the verses and production (9.5/10 worthy at least!) but I have an irrational fear of the chorus and indeed the original and any covers of D.I.S.C.O. (even the N-Trance version and everyone knows how much I worship them!). Still was an 8.5/10 for me overall though, based on the other things, but about 16th in my rankings

I didn't vote for Ashton either this month, or Kopecka, and I vote for all three of you almost always, not out of a non-existent pact but because you always deliver the goods.

I liked all three tracks (don't worry Phil, it wasn't a Lykke Li situation going on here, more of a Lily one!) but the quality was sky high and songs I wanted to vote for just got edged out

Another country sticking religiously to their own semi (was Semi 1 really that much better? The Semi 2 voters would disagree it seems). Only Batidas and leaders Espen from the first semi gain anything at all here and the latter just a solitary point, although it's enough to keep them out in front as Isconia score nothing...elsewhere there are high points for Allecian and Budtar moving them further off the bottom of the leaderboard whilst Ashton move into the top ten! The full 12 for Hendinia pushes them into mid-table territory...

Even the N-Trance version? I find it odd that whilst they're behind my favourite song ever in Set You Free they're also behind some that I can't abide - D.I.S.C.O., Stayin' Alive, Paradise City, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy etc, the originals of some of these are classics but they made abominations of covers imo (*Queen Llorenna marches out of the Palladium in disgust*). In fact the only other N-Trance hit that I particularly love is Forever (although some of their smaller hits are decent!)

There you have the results of BJSC XXXVI then! Isconia claim their debut win with the mesmerising Video Games which scored an incredible 9 sets of 12 points! However, only 20 of 45 countries voted for it, a clearly polarising winner which proves quite conclusively that as long as you have something that a number of people LOVE, you don't even need to appeal to a majority to win BJSC! 75% of people that voted for Isconia placed it in their top three by giving it either 12, 10 or 8 points!

Espen and Lorikeet attracted more voters but more thinly spread and finish 2nd and 3rd, a quite incredible result for a German language song there, well done to Espen on a new personal best there with what was by far my favourite song of the contest (in fact any contest from the last 18 months!) and welcome back to the top three Lorikeet!

Batidas keep up an incredible run of form with their second consecutive 4th place and fourth top ten hit in a row whilst Kluminican Republic just edge out over Bignia-Zaragovina for 5th place having attracted more voters, and again, it's another new personal best there so congratulations to them! Indeed Semi 1 did dominate in the end, with four of the top five coming from there although as did five of the bottom eight implying that although Semi 1 had more highlights, Semi 2 was more consistent overall.

Fljótavík make a welcome return to the top ten in 7th, as do Unovia in 8th and the hosts FSR Rontvia keep up the recent form of the hosts finishing top ten by ending up in 9th place (just 5 points away from the top five haters ). This is of note because it's FSR Rontvia's first ever 9th place finish, meaning that they're the first country to ever finish at every position in the top ten Rounding off the top ten is Allecian with the highly fancied Disco Moment. The only other country to break the 100 points barrier was Kopečka so spare a thought for them in 11th with their first ever instance of missing the top ten three times in a row – could it have been any closer though?

I think the last 10 winners have been some of the best we've ever had (granted 4 of them were my entries ). Far better than 'cheap rulez' 18 months-2 years ago where the great, inspired victory deserving songs all finished 2nd behind the latest hot leak. The likes of Riverside and Video Games are quality, beautiful songs with long lasting appeal that deserve the victory and will actually go on to do well all over again in the 'Best Of' rather than some 'good for a week' non-entity that flounders once the hype wears off.

I just think I.... don't get it? For me, Video Games is okay, but for a song so empty, I didn't like her voice, she sounded too bored, and the vocals are important with so little to assist (it's like Adele, if you don't like her voice, the magic of the song is lost IMO).

I can't really moan about ballads winning seeing as I won with one. But, both Riverside and Video Games are just a bit too boring for me. I can see how they can be perceived as beautiful, but I guess they just don't quite cater to what I look for/like in a ballad.

Wow, I'm really happy you ended up loving the song so much. I entered it first and foremost because I liked the track and off my potential list of entries, 'Promises' was the one I would be most happy to put in my personal chart. It's always great when people make such great discoveries. I was thinking 'Somewhere In The Water' was a "discovery" but I'd forgotton that it went to no. 1 in New Zealand late last year. I did offer a bit of description with it, rather just saying IT'S BORING AND CRAP. They're both just... too empty for me. Sometimes songs can be too over-produced, so songs with just pianos can be good. But, both Riverside and Video Games both just felt a bit too empty.

Yes, but it's likely a few people discovered Something in the water though, so it wasn't a total "waste". It was a bit different from your usual entries (which are, most likely, your type/niche now ), but I guess the odd change in style every now and then is primarily a good thing. I'm glad you ended up sending Promises in the end though obviously! It grew on me quite a lot and now I absolutely love it! Do you think you will continue sending these types of songs to this contest? Or is a musical change inevitable?

I don't really think I have a "format" or "niche" to be honest. I just enter songs that I've discovered and liked. 'Riverside' is nothing like 'SITW' which in itself couldn't more different to 'Black Video'. I'd say 'Promises' and 'Black Video' are similar whilst not identical - both electronic indie songs but both with their own sound and identity.

I'm sure musical change is inevitable. It really all depends on what I discover in the weeks leading up to the next confirmation thread. I've already discovered a new(ish) track that I really like which I'm considering entering into BJSC XXXII but it has... ** gasp ** male vocals. Do I enter a song I like and risk breaking my chain of top 10 finishes, or do I play it safe again and go for the already well known BJSC artist route?

What an absolutely mesmerizing winner. Glad to see a slightly alternative song which is deeply moving can still trump pure-pop in this competition
