5th February 2017

It's Ryan Rabin on top and at number 10! Who? Oh he's in both Captain Cuts and Grouplove, and Captain Cuts is an LA based songwriting/production trio, with quite a few artist credits to back them up. Love Like We Used To is a fab pop record, helped by vocalist Nateur. George Michael meanwhile replaces himself in the top 5 with Faith album cut Hand To Mouth popping upwards to 5. Meanwhile Starley and a John Mayer album track enter the top 10.

Saint Motel rocket into the top 20, their 2nd big hit here, as they Move from 54 to 15. Crystal Waters gets her first top 20 entry in 20 years, with Hifi Sean, and highest new entry, with their 4th top 40, is Walk Off The Earth, and new toon, Fire In My Soul in at 25. Lady Antebellum grab another top 40, and back together a couple of years after Lilac Wine did the biz in my charts, it's Imelda May with a new image, and guitar legend Jeff Beck, on the sultry Black Tears. Jeff first charted 45 years ago in my charts with party classic Hi Ho Silver Lining.

Bakermat's Baby is a re-imaging of Don't Leave Me This Way, the Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes much-covered 70's classic, here at 45, but it's not the only re-imagining, there's a very cheeky one at 53 for Train. I thought it was an old Train hit on first hearing, as the tune was so familiar. Not so. In fact it's new lyrics stuffed over the top of this 1938, 80-year-old, much-covered Hoagy Carmichael standard...

I'll be honest, it's one of those songs I knew quite well but didn't know I knew - you know the sort, hear it on telly, in films, in adverts, but you never really notice. It's fab. Train's new song is not bad, either and gives them a run of over 15 years in my charts. Former chart-toppers Goldfrapp are also back, now into a second-decade of hits, as is Elbow, with a longer run, and Depeche Mode, an incredible 36-years of chart entries, and last but not least Blondie, 39 years and counting. Phew! That's nothing. Nancy Sinatra's 60's film theme has been used in a car advert, so I'm charting Last Of The Secret Agents for the first time, because I missed it first-time round, being as even I wasn't charting 50 years ago. Hard to believe I know....

Hi Jason,

yes I do quite like Captain Cuts laugh.gif I can see the Bruno Mars comparisons now you mention it...

I like Paris, but it's not as fab as Closer - and that took a while to register with me properly, so maybe Paris will too. I keep playing clips of it waiting for it to click...

My Type is better, yes, but I like Move a lot too.

I havent seen the Odesza video must check it out!

thanks!
john
