Baffling re: Zara Larsson. wacko.gif Ah well, even if they don't support it looks like it should be a hit without them anyway!

Did Danny L Harle go from C list straight to A list? ohmy.gif

No, he was on the B-list last week.

I had a feeling they wouldn't support Zara Larsson, as baffling as it is. I'm also disappointed not to see Fleur East added.

On the plus side, great to see a long-overdue clearout biggrin.gif

Posted by: LushLifeLee Jan 27 2016, 05:36 PM

Radio 1 really annoy me at times, I mean they had no reason to snub 'Stand By You' following the success of 'Fight Song' and I don't see why they would snub 'Lush Life' considering how well it's doing on iTunes and the success of 'Never Forget You'.

Posted by: Joe. Jan 27 2016, 05:37 PM

Before people ask why they haven't added Rihanna, I think it's probably because they already decided the playlist before knowing she was dropping the single out of nowhere.

Brilliant clearout, though Coldplay have replaced themselves. (With a less annoying song thank god) elated to see Broken Flowers on the A list - please be a hit!

I honestly think Zara is still to come!

Considering how much they've hammered it this afternoon, I'll be shocked if it's not on next week's update.

Adele, Halsey, Jess, Jonas Blue being added and Little Mix + Taylor + Birdy being moved up wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: Ryan. Jan 27 2016, 05:42 PM

99% sure Zara will be playlisted in upcoming weeks, remember it hasn't been out for 2 weeks yet and it is being treated OA/OS - it is likely the impact date isn't until March as that is when her album is coming out. I'd expect playlisting maybe 2nd week of February.

Posted by: *Tim Jan 27 2016, 05:48 PM

No Zara
No Selena
Wot

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 27 2016, 05:48 PM

I think there's still time for Fleur East, like I said before we don't know when the intended impact date is.

But then they could base their decision on the album's underperformance.

Posted by: omrimayo Jan 27 2016, 05:49 PM

Not 7 Years?!? It's getting huge by itself but I don't get the logic. Happy for Adele and Coldplay.

Posted by: HausofTroye Jan 27 2016, 05:56 PM

'New Americana' wub.gif it's basically 'Royals' Pt. II but even better for me so should be a big smash with any hope.

Posted by: mdh Jan 27 2016, 05:57 PM

^ Danny L Harle - Broken Flowers

Good to see Coldplay, Adele and Mumford added! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Cody Slayberry Jan 27 2016, 06:09 PM

Are they really re-releasing "Rumour Mill"? Not complaining, just confused.

Nice to see Shift K3Y on the A-List, hopefully it means that will go somewhere.

I think they are. Seems like Rudimental are doing a James Bay. So glad "Sorry" has been taken off

Posted by: Iz~ Jan 27 2016, 06:27 PM

Best playlist update I've seen in a while. All the long-runners dropped, Broken Flowers up to the A-List (the best thing), The 1975 on the rise, and a whole new C-List, that I only know half of. That feels more like the Radio 1 I want to see.

Posted by: burbe Jan 27 2016, 06:29 PM

When We Were Young biggrin.gif Hopefully this starts to make some progress up iTunes now as a result!

Posted by: AcerBen Jan 27 2016, 07:00 PM

Bonkers that they haven't added Lush Life yet but it is probably just them sticking to impact dates. SURELY?

Lukas Graham obviously should be on there too but their impact date isn't til 12th March

It was only an instant grat before, wasn't a proper single, so not a re-release heehee.gif

Posted by: AcerBen Jan 27 2016, 07:05 PM

Why the f*** is Love Yourself only up to B-list now? CLUELESS.

Posted by: gavindeejay Jan 27 2016, 07:11 PM

I'm not sure who has seen this, but it's been announced today that Radio 1 has a new head of music.

From Music Week: http://www.musicweek.com/news/read/bbc-radio-1-and-1xtra-appoint-chris-price-as-new-head-of-music-3/063954

QUOTE
BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra have appointed Chris Price as head of music for both stations.

Price will become the creative and editorial lead for Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s music policies, and play a key role in ensuring the BBC delivers the right content on the right platforms for young audiences.

"Radio 1 & 1Xtra's Head of Music is the greatest music discovery job on the planet, said Price, who previously worked at Sony, Warner, Radio 1, MTV and BT, and was most recently working as head of music for Last.fm. "I'm thrilled to be joining the BBC to continue the incredible work it does breaking new music, as well as steering the networks’ music strategy into the next phase of its digital future.”

Price will start his new role in March, taking over from George Ergatoudis who will be leaving Radio 1 and 1Xtra after 10 years in the role.

BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper added: “Chris brings unparalleled experience across music radio, TV and digital broadcasting to BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. His passion and knowledge is key to our future plans for young audiences to continue to discover the music they will love. I’m delighted to welcome him to the team.”

I wonder if Chris will change the way songs are added to the playlist going forward when he takes over?

It's a pretty hyped song from an ex-member of possibly the world's biggest band. I'd say that's worthy of an insta-add. Besides, you seem unhappy about it without even hearing the song.... tongue.gif

Do impact dates still exist for OAOS singles???

Only on radio 1 will they do that to subvert the impact of OAOS releases!

Have you only just noticed this? kink.gif OA/OS singles definitely have impact dates. It's nothing to do with Radio 1, it's the record labels.

Let's hope so!

George what's his name was boasting on Twitter how in 2013 he knew 21 Pilots would be huge and yet I they haven't exactly hammered the band on daytime radio 1!!

Apparently he is going to work for Spotify in March!

It was a tongue in cheek comment - I wish they'd take more notice and playlist songs currently doing well ahead of their impact date and perhaps even add songs further up the playlist instead of the tired old C-B-A movement or in Elle Kings case C-B-B-B-A move.

Actually not all songs do always have impact dates (especially OAOS) but radio 1 are a station that always tries to work by them, and often asks the record company for an impact date if they're not given one.

Finally we have a more fresh looking A List! Glad to see the major lazer gone aswell and whole new C List!

The labels do it though because the media, especially Radio 1, can't cope without them

Posted by: Zárate Jan 27 2016, 10:03 PM

Tbh I'd think of changing the habit of playlist too. For example MAYBE some songs should go A-A-A-B-C etc. So Firstly you massively introduce a song and then it starts to get boring, so it goes down. Or C-B-A-B-C for some releases etc. I think it would be much more flexible with this.

Posted by: Steve201 Jan 27 2016, 10:22 PM

Such as the Adele exclusive for Hello - I'm pretty sure they used to do this, and currently Radio 2 still do it.

Posted by: Joe. Jan 27 2016, 10:29 PM

I'd prefer songs going C-B-A-B-C, sometimes they continue to play songs but sometimes songs spend weeks on their A list and then aren't played again afterwards which I've always found to be odd.

Posted by: mdh Jan 27 2016, 10:32 PM

am I the only one that prefers the current format? They usually tend to play recently removed songs at least a few times a week up to a few weeks after removal, so it doesn't really make much odds. And I think the idea of the playlist is to constantly have new music on all the playlists, and as the C-List usually comprises of all new entries and risers from the INMWT list there wouldn't be as much space for new songs, unless they expanded the playlist size, which I doubt will happen.

Riton, Rudimental, Elf Kid & Kano! cheer.gif

The sample and chorus on Elf Kid's 'Golden Boy' is ridiculously infectious. laugh.gif

Great to see Adele's "When We Were Young" playlisted now and Jess Gylnee/Jonas Blue too. biggrin.gif

Posted by: djgrafdemon Jan 28 2016, 11:03 AM

Absolutely love almost all the new additions this week! Need to listen to Zayn's new material.
Adele, Coldplay, Hozier, Glynne, Jonas Blue, Mumfords (they were charting, um, in April or so last year in my own chart, so I'm pleased to see them now), Riton (YAS), Rudimental (triple YAS), Elf Kid (it IS infectious biggrin.gif).
Excited to see Shift K3Y moved up! I do hope this fact helps him reach a bit higher...
Strange to admit that Frances has gone sad.gif the same about Major Lazer stuff.
Finally! Sorry in "out" list happy.gif

Can I just point out that the verses to 'Hymn for the Weekend' and 'New Americana' sound scarily alike?

They're back to back on my Spotify playlist and it takes a moment to realise it's not the same song playing twice.
