Do we think that there’s any Ellie singles that could be seen as a bit of a risk when originally released?

As much as I love it, I think that Close To Me was a bit risky as it could’ve quite easily bombed completely! That would’ve been a disaster kicking off Ellie’s fourth era!

What do you think? Does she even have any risky singles?

Not since she sold out, but Anything Could Happen and Figure 8 were extremely risky!

Actually haven't heard it yet. I'll give it a miss as it has a rent a rapper tbh

Juice WRLD doesn't rap on the track ohmy.gif

Anything Could Happen was a pretty bold track to kick her second era off with I'd say, it stood out positively but the public could easily have not bought into it. On My Mind was similarly risky I think, Delirium definitely had safer songs than that one.

On My Mind surely?! She drops all of her signature elements in it, no wispy vocal, no high pitch, slow tempo, synthy or acousticy instrumentation.

the current single is kinda risky I'd say, just cos it has Juice Wrld that alone can alienate a lot of fans that hate urban

don't think Anything Could Happen or Figure 8 were risky at all, just a continuation of the sound she had on album 1, and her little quirky electro-folkish songs, if something it was something logic and that made sense

I'd say it was more risky to do Burn. Sure it worked but it also kinda alienated some of the fans that had been there from day 1 and it was seen as a sorta selling out song. Until then she had hd all these little songs written by herself and then suddenly she releases a huge pop single that she didn't write and that has been making the rounds and could easily have been a Leona single. It paid off cos she gained many new fans but Im sure she lost some too with that move.

there are other songs that have been mentioned like Close to Me or On My Mind. Don't think those are risky. What they are is bad. Not the same thing. She shouldn't have released them cos of poor quality but cannot see anything risky about therm.

I definitely think Close To Me and On My Mind were risky!

Close to Me dropped in Q4 2018, where female artists dominated. We had Halsey, Ava Max, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and others all slaying at the top of the charts. Close to Me could’ve quite easily got lost amongst all that! I know it ‘only’ peaked at #17, but it could’ve gone a whole lot worse.

Then On My Mind is very marmite.

On My Mind was a polarizing single, yes, but was it all that risky? Sonically, that was probably her safest release. It sounded mainstream and in high demand, especially at a time when Ellie was at peak popularity. It's only seen as risky bc she played it safe.

Figure 8 was the riskiest imo. Anything Could Happen can also be considered. Possibly even Hate Me? it's very Spotify friendly but at risk at alienating Ellie's fanbase.

Unsure how people are arguing Burn, Close To Me and On My Mind. All very safe songs.

Anything Could Happen was a risk what paid off.

I really miss the Ellie of 2010-2013.

Her last three major single releases now have all had next to no personality in them with collaborations what feel so inauthentic in Hate Me and Close to Me.

Anything Could Happen being a 5 minute long song could be seen as a bit of a risk, but then streaming didn’t count in the charts back then so who knows.
