Seen four of these nominated performances (not really interested in an almost 3 hour Shakespeare adaptation tbh) as well as a few more of her recent roles and she really is fabulous. I love that she's won five BAFTAs, the Brits know she's a queen of life *-*
1 California Suite
2 The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
3 A Room With a View
4 Gosford Park
The top two are fantastic though and really hard to choose what is my favourite. Had to CS though as she just steals the entire movie and shows a range of quick wit and raw emotion with not all that much screen-time, such an excellent character! Miss Jean Brodie is another excellent character too and Maggie was so charismatic in the role, it's not hard to see why the girls fall under her spell and she completely made the movie yet again. The latter two are more of her cutting bitchy type roles but she suits both so well. I rank ARWAV just slightly above as I like how she showed the inner conflict of the character at times whereas her character in GP is a little one dimensional. I loved her just coming out with 'it must be sad to work so hard and just see you work...flop' in the latter though. Savage!!
It's such a shame she hasn't been nominated in 15 years at the Oscars despite doing some great performances since. She'd have been in my top five for both Marigold Hotel and Lady in the Van, she has amazing comedic timing and is always such a scene stealer
AMAZING
She is SO good at being a posh bitch but with CLASS.
Tes With Mussolini is my favourite of hers she is SO fierce in it. Deserved a nod for thst IMO. Same goes for The Lady in The Van.
