Well in Toryland, breaking rules doesn't matter one bit, as Dorries who did the same became a cabinet Minister eventually and Patel and Braverman both became Home Secretaries after resighing due to misconduct. Expect him to be knighted within a week of coming back.

The stories that broke over the weekend regarding Suella Braverman's actions (or rather inaction) over the Manston immigration centre are just beyond disgusting to me. The contempt that those on the right of the Conservative party hold for fellow humans, and the joy they have at other's misfortune being compounded further is unbelievable sometimes. I hope she is removed from office soon, given that MI5 and the (Go) Home Office are already briefing against her I expect that we will be shot of her soon...

Gavin Williamson has resigned from the cabinet following further accusations of bullying. His two-week spell is yet another one of the ten shortest ministerial tenures in UK history. He will pick up a severance payment of around £17k to add to the payments he pocketed when he was sacked in 2019 (for being a security risk) and 2021 (for being useless even by the standards of Johnson's ministers).

Well, at least he's gone. Although he still has that sodding knighthood despite not doing a SINGLE thing of worth in his time in post, really makes a mockery of those that do a lot of good to earn that and don't get that recognition.

A recent article in the Guardian sums up this Tory government well. Sunak’s government is effectively the same government with just a handful of different faces. Beneath the initial charm of Sunak lies the same incompetence and ineffective policies aimed at protecting the rich and alienating those at the bottom causing a widening in social inequalities.
Just look at the decision to rehire Gavin Williamson and the mess with Suella Braverman for starters and he has only been PM for a short time. |

Will certainly be interesting to see what kind of tax rises are in store in the upcoming budget. I have a feeling it'll disproportionately affect those worse off.

Other option could be to increase VAT slightly, although not sure that does much to help the impending recession. |

They should do huge windfall taxes on energy companies, more tax on high earners, higher stamp duty and inheritance tax. Try and even things out a bit. Won't do because the rich are always protected from any kind of hardship with the Tories.

Jeremy Hunt has been MP for SW Surrey since 2005. In the previous election Virginia Bottomley held on by under 1,000 votes but Hunt held it comfortably and had a whopping 16,000 majority in 2010 before increasing it to 28,500 five years later. It has fallen since then but was still a comfortable 9,000 in 2019. Today he was selected as candidate for Godalming and Ash which contains little, if any, of his former constituency. SW Surrey has long been a Lib Dem target. Is this an admission by Hunt that they mat finally succeed next time?

I think Sunak was right to hold out sacking until a full investigation was carried out - I do feel this should be the process. However, it was so clear this was only going to go one way. That letter from Sunak is absolutely nausiating and makes it seem like he was only sacked as he didn't declare he was under investigation rather than stealing money! Madness.

Isn't this case unusual for a Cabinet Minister to be actually sacked rather than being "asked to resign" (?) but yep dreadful stuff from a thieving party at every level.

The reply was awful with absolutely no ounce of acknowledgment or apology. There’s no way HMRC would have fined him so heavily if he wasn’t displaying inappropriate and evasive behaviour - as they said, they don’t raise penalties on innocent errors.

Anyone else in a professional capacity such as a nurse, doctor or social worker would be suspended if a serious allegation came to light while an investigation took place. MPs seem to be immune from this process but the reality is they are still professionals who are in positions of trust so it seems once again one rule for them and one for us. |
